Out of the Blue begins with Preslee being uncomfortable and klutzy. She has much mental angst to deal, with as well as physical issues. Enter Adam, the keeper man. I loved how he was way into her first, before she even gave him a thought. The novel offers a lot of insight about self awareness, fitness, and mental health. However, losing weight as fast as Preslee does in the novel isn’t really reflective of true life. I used it be a gym goer and had fun reading about it, but feeling relieved I don’t belong to one anymore.

Out of the Blue, A Perfect Fit Book #4 by Alison Bliss
I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
I love the books in this series and was glad to get back to them since I feel like it’s been FOREVAH!!
I loved this book for the slow burn of Preslee an dAdam. They both are head over heels in love but thing the other had friend zoned them. He thinks she is in love with Josh, and she thinks she is not model thin for him.
Preslee clumsily falls into a gym…kinda sounds like a funny joke punchline right??? She got not great health news and needs to make a healthy change in her life. So, she decides to join the new gym in town. Unfortunately, her fear of being “the fat girl in the gym” and having people stare at her PLUS The fact the machines almost kill her she runs away…. well after the gym owner sniffs her too. LOL
Adam needs to bring in more clients for his new business or he will be closing shop in a few months’ time. When he sees Preslee almost die on a machine, he steps in to help her (and sniff her) while not realizing she was vlogging the whole incident!!!
Adam is attracted by Preslee and makes a bet…guys don’t ever make a bet about a women……..anyway he maes a bet with his buddy Kurt to train Preslee if she vlogs about it after the hair sniffing video goes viral. One look at Preslee outside of the gym he sees her loving Josh from afar and he hatches his plan.
The couple have great teasing banter and slowly you feel the heat rising between the two characters. However, they are both so guarded and afraid of the others rejection plus they have these ideas in the their head of what the other wants. It was such a great build a heat and love. The wedding reception was when the lines seems to cross and then things get all messed up between the two.
I loved loved loved that Alison brings up a health mental health and the importance of it in the story. Preslee has some issues she needs to see a therapist about. I love that Alison brought that into the story because we really do need to shine a light on the negative stigma of mental health issues.
I can’t wait for more from the series, I want to see the woman who brings Kurt to his knees!
I so thoroughly enjoy reading books by Alison Bliss because she not only makes you laugh out loud but she also knows how to pull on your heart strings and Out Of The Blue is no exception.
Preslee Owens needs to get in shape. Insert Adam Caldwell the local gym owner and personal trainer. We all know how the story goes from here, girl and boy meet, fall in love and get married...oh wait, it's not that easy for Preslee and Adam!
Preslee is a "bigger" girl that doesn't believe anyone could find her attractive and then there's Adam. Adam is a hottie with a body ody ody. Surely he could never be attracted to someone like her. But he is and he does and if they can somehow just figure out how madly in live with each other they are, everything will work out, right? Oops, there's just one small problem. The matter of the bet...
As someone who has always had issues with their weight and has a love/hate relationship with gyms, Preslee was the most relatable character I have met in a book so far. Any time I've gone to a new gym, I've sat in the car and tried to chicken out because I would always think everyone would stare at me, so those first few chapters as Preslee struggled with feeling comfortable to walk into the gym, I felt like I was looking in a mirror.
While I'm all for the confidence Preslee found throughout the book as she learned to enjoy working out and feeling comfortable in her own skin, I felt like this book was sending a mixed message. It is something I struggle with in feeling comfortable in my body regardless of the number on the scale, but it felt like towards the end, Preslee only learned to accept herself was when her clothes were looser.
The body positivity throughout the book does make up for the end for me, and that the damage you can do to your body by over-exercising, crash diets, and diet pills can do to your body. As a fit personal trainer, I was ready to write off Adam in the beginning, but his character quickly grew on me. While he was a bit unrealistic at times, I liked that he was always in Preslee's corner, even when she was ready to write herself off.
I liked the premise of this story a lot, but I struggled with the dialogue between characters. I feel like the author needs to work on making it sound more natural. They sounded robotic at times..
I can relate to Preslee in many ways. The gym is not a place that make plus-sized people feel comfortable but when Preslee runs into Adam, the gym owner, things change. After an unfortunate incident with a stair climber, Preslee decides she will not be going back to the gym. However, Adam has other plans and finds a way to convince Preslee to come back and take him on as her personal trainer. Preslee learns how to love herself and comes to term with past feelings and emotions about people leaving her.
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever Publishing for the eARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book was not only cute, but highly relevant for so many readers today. It's lovely to see a positive transformation that doesn't just mean being skinny or a certain weight number. I loved the love story too!
Another great book in The Perfect Fit series! I think this is my favourite one because Preslee is way to relatable and Adam was a sweet heart. The banter is fantastic as well as the overall premise and the side characters. If either Kurt or Michael or Nate get a book I would be pleased with it!
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!
Out of The Blue is a BBW rom-com about a clumsy, plus-size heroine who falls for the hero, a gym owner - and her new personal trainer
i enjoyed this story tremendously. i think it had great characters, good writing, easy and fun to follow, as well as touching on real life topics. as someone who is also on the curvier side, the thoughts and feels about fit vs un-fit was highly appreciated because what Preslee felt is what I've been feeling for most of my life, and in that way i could connect with her character.
both Preslee and Adam made the perfect pair and i think they complimented each other really well
two things I'm a bit sad about is the "misleading" cover, with the presence of a doggo i was expecting to actually read about one but there were no furry friends...
and when it came to Preslee and Adam, i do wish we had date scenes or "get to know each other" chapters.
overall really fun and sweet read, with added touch of seriousness to it (TW for dieting pills, exessive dieting, lots of talk/mentions of weight self-awareness).

One of my 2022 reading resolutions is to quit books I'm not enjoying, and sadly, this was a DNF for me. It just felt too cheesy. I also find it hard to believe that someone can safely lose 23 pounds in two weeks. And not to be petty, but I hated that she was named Preslee but she was named after Elvis Presley. Why spell it like that? Anyways, I hope someone enjoys this - it just wasn't for me!
I have always found Alison Bliss books very enjoyable. Light, flirty, romance stories with fun charachters. This on was a little different being mainly centered in a gym, but I enjoyed it all the same. The chapters at times were a bit long but the story flowed well. I was just waiting for Adam and Preslee to finally get their moment and would have liked to get a little more of them and the relationship. On the whole, just a nice, easy read which is great to unwind. Thanks for this advanced copy. I was looking forward to this book and somehow the release dates got confused way ahead and it seemed ready to order but was in error, so then waiting a while and getting the advanced copy is appreciated.
I really wanted to like this one, but sadly I felt it was just ok.
As someone who is plus sized, it's nice to find a book that focuses on body positivity, but I didn't get that as much as I wanted to. Preslee does say she's getting fit for herself, but it really felt like she was doing it for the guy/s. I also felt at times she was SO negative. I didn't really get the MCs chemistry until nearer to the end and I want that early on in a romance.
It has decent plot, I just wish there had been better follow through. With reading, I know to suspend belief at times, but some of the stuff that happens (the mud run) for one) is just too unrealistic.
It was cute and funny at times, but not enough for me to rate it higher.
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
OMG - I am Preslee!! Faced with poor health, Preslee needs to start a new chapter of her life and join a gym. But this curvy woman has never been one to exercise and her first encounter will leave the reader laughing out loud and swooning at the same time when gum owner Adam steps in to help her. With a plan of action in place the two embark on a relationship that is not only between the walls f the gym and the affection they both feel for each other just leaps off the page. The ending will leave you with a sense of new beginnings and endless happiness but the reader needs to get through load of hurdles to get there. A great read!!
If you want to read a delightful laugh out loud romance then be sure to give this book a try. I enjoyed this story and tho it’s the fourth in a series it can be read as a stand alone . This is a cute romance with wonderful characters that have great chemistry..
I love reading body positive romance novels so I was excited when I read the synopsis for Out of the Blue. There were a lot of things I liked about this book. As I mentioned, I love that this book has a main character who is focused on working out specifically for her health rather than to be thin. While that was is at the forefront throughout the story but Preslee still deals with body image issues making the story feel more realistic and relatable. Adam is a character who I loved. He adores Preslee just as she is and is there to cheer her on and help her achieve her goals.
While I liked reading about Preslee and Adam’s story, I found myself wanting more scenes with other characters introduced throughout the book. They were entertaining and added more to the small town feel. I wish that Presley’s dad had been introduced much sooner because his presence in the book was fantastic. I also would have liked more scenes with Adam’s brother and Preslee’s girl friends. I hope that there are future books set in this small town so I can learn more about all of these supporting characters.
I was provided a free copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
First off I adore Alison work. I have read all her other books. This one is very personal to me. I being an curvier girl with a need to do better with my body. The premises of this wonderful story spoke volumes to me. I love the back and forth with her and Adam. Knowing what is going to happen between them just makes it all worth the read. Over all I loved this book, I can't wait to get a personal copy for my own library and also for the county library I work for. Great writing Ms Bliss!

2.5 stars
This book wasn't bad. It also wasn't good. There are some things to recommend - for example, the fact that plus-sized ladies got some recognition. However, that was negated by the awkward dialogue and tissue-thin plotlines. Some parts of the story were so unrealistic. Presslee loses 8 pounds the first week of her workout regimen, then 15 the next? Not realistic! The whole mud run scene was completely awful. If Adam was a legitimate trainer, he would never have allowed a completely untrained client participate in an event like that 2 weeks into her training! It was completely unbelievable that she went from not knowing how to turn on a step climber to completing an obstacle run in 2 weeks.
I just found myself skimming and/or eye-rolling through the whole thing.
Thank you to Grand Central/Forever Publishing for the opportunity to read a digital ARC in return for an honest review.
I will start out with things I really liked about this book. From the beginning,
- I loved the misunderstanding of the attention Preslee received that lead to her feeling insecure and uncomfortable. The emotional writing felt very honest.
- The humor throughout was very fun!
- Each characters' personalities were very distinguished and I appreciated that.
-The author's voice was very clear and established.
-Some laugh out loud moments
-Great pacing!
Things that I didn't like or needed more from:
-I felt like this could have been a lot more effective and flow better in first person.
-Way too much telling and not showing. Exposition through conversation did not sound natural enough.
-Why was Adam against the ice of using her for vlog promotion, but during the first workout he's thinking about how he needs to encourage her to vlog once they get into the gym???
-Don't always tell me how a character felt. Let me experience it
-Unnatural dialogue when the brother came into the scene
-Tonal switches that gave me whiplash. Feels like a lot of forced conversation to push important topics and ideas the author wants to get across instead of letting these conversations or ideas come to the reader naturally.
As a ful bodied female I always appreciate a voluptuous main character. Occasionally their plus size is a negative thing in novels until another main character can appreciate their size as a universal part of them.
This was not so in Out of the Blue. From the get go we knew that Preslee us determined to make physical changes for herself for her health, not for a love interest.
That doesn't stop the love from happening however.
One of my bigger issues here was the lack of honesty and communication. I know that the conflict resolution is what sells but it was quite a ride to get there. It felt a bit too long in that regard.
Overall, I really enjoy the characters and the general storyline. 3.5 stars.
Preslee, who finds out she has pre-diabetes and slightly high blood pressure, hires a personal trainer, Adam, to help her be more active to improve those numbers. They are attracted to each other from day one but fight their feelings and end up falling for each other. However, there was too much diet culture for me. Weight loss and weigh-ins were a big focus and he gave her a “diet,” which is outside of the professional scope of a personal trainer. There was also some disordered eating mentioned throughout the story.
I did enjoy Preslee’s growth with her friendships throughout the story, and liked her interactions with her dad. It was well-written with believable chemistry between the two leads, and would be an enjoyable read for someone who is not bothered by the content I mentioned above. I would be interested in reading more from Alison Bliss in the future if there wasn’t a weight loss plot, as I enjoy stories with diverse body size representation and a body positive message.
