A great Christmas read so put this on your TBR for Christmas 2024

It's three days before Christmas, and detective-turned-chef Jodie "Nosey" Parker is asked to cater for a charity event run by a millionaire from a thirteenth century abbey on Bodmin Moor. Has the feeling of Agatha Christie Mousetrap - people stranded after a snowstorm, after the dinner, phone lines down and one of the guests has been murdered in their bed! who is the murderer amonst these unfrtunate guests.The author has added in twists and turns which all readers will enjoy in this cosy detective novel.

Well written wih interesting characters and a bit of humour thrown into this Cornish Christmas.

This is my first read by this author and I really enjoyed Jodie the main character witty and likeable will definitely pick up another book by this another and will look to read the rest of this series a light easy going read

An absolute standout of a book- quirky, kooky and yet also creepy and mysterious in places. It had a mixture of a light and sometimes hilarious chick lit/ comedy vibe paired with an almost Agatha Christie-esque mystery. With creepy settings including a stone staircase in an old building I was so in!!! The second I was finished reading I bought the rest of this series!! Thanks so much to the publisher for the book in return for an honest review.

This is a cute and fun christmas cozy mystery with a terrific sense of humor and a fun cast of characters.

Generally speaking I tend to prefer historical cozies to their modern counterparts, both because they’re generally of better quality and because they allow for greater setting and atmosphere.

This one is a cut above most modern cozies in quality and though there’s no real historical information to learn unless you’ve never heard of a priest hole before, the setting and sense of place is still very well done.

The mystery itself is well-paced and well-structured. The solve itself is a little convoluted and goofy, but the process of getting there is great and everything adds up properly in the end.

Another wonderful book from this author.
Fiona Leitch is a very witty and entertaining writer. This is the fourth book in the Nosey Parker series, but the momentum and humour are as fast and sharp as in the first.
Jodie is a sympathetic heroine who copes not only with solving mysteries (her previous career as a policewoman comes in handy) but also her mother, teenage daughter and ex-husband, all of whom have their moments of being demanding.
There's a festive setting for this particular mystery, but, being a medieval abbey, it's also a tad menacing and richly Gothic. Add a snowstorm, stranded guests with complicated pasts and, obviously, a murder and there's a lot happening in this very enjoyable book. Jodie doesn't get a quiet moment the whole way through.
The book is skilfully constructed, consisting of a clever plot, excellent characterisation and lots of lively repartee and engaging situations. One to enjoy at any time of year, but especially Christmas.

A Cornish Christmas Murder is the fourth Nosey Parker mystery by Fiona Leitch. Released 9th Dec 2021 by Harper Collins on their One More Chapter imprint, it's 368 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

This is a very well written, whimsical, and appealing cozy mystery with a caterer as a former-police-inspector protagonist along with her ragtag catering assistants/family and geriatric Pomeranian, Germaine. This installment is a nice closed circle mystery with a group of snowed in guests in an isolated abbey-turned-mansion setting. The mystery is well constructed and the characters are well rendered and believable. It's a cozy, with lots of silly dialogue and was an enjoyable, diverting read.

Although it's the fourth book in the series, all necessary back-story is deftly provided, and the mystery and denouement are self contained and satisfying. There are 5 books extant in the series now, so it would make a good candidate for a weekend binge read. There's a whole subgenre with caterers-as-sleuths and this is one of the better ones.

Four stars.

Jodie gets hired to cater for a children's Christmas party hosted by a millionaire, Isaac Barnes at a coming-up B&B in Kingseat Abbey, England. Unfortunately, by the time the party is over, Jodie and her crew are forced to spend the night due to a snow storm that closes the roads. When they wake up the next morning they find Steve, the hired Santa, dead in his room. Will Jodie be able to figure out what happened and who is responsible before someone dies?

I enjoyed the writing and the storyline. I also loved the characters because there was a good mix of personalities. It was a great Christmas read. It did get a little repetitive with all the guests being kept at the hotel until the Police arrived. I appreciated the recipes found at the end of the book. They are perfect for celebrating the holidays!

I’ve read all Fiona Leitch’s books, and love this one. Great to continue following the nosey Parker story

Returning to a Nosy Parker book is like visiting a friend. Combined with snow and adding a Christmas book to the series and I was in heaven!

This read was lots of fun and, as always, I love the supporting characters. I always find that Nosy has a way of including you in her detecting as if you are right there with her.

This one was fun with; a murder, a mysterious mansion and a snowstorm giving us, you guessed it, a locked room mystery! There was plenty to enjoy here and even some history lessons about the mansion, with a potential ghost thrown in.

This series gives us characters that are so very likeable and you will chuckle at the jokes and eye rolls along with them all. I missed some of the characters that weren't in this one and hope to see more of them in future books! If you are looking for an easy, nice, down to earth read, this is the series for you and this one is a definite book to add to your Christmas shelf!

I love this book! Such a great story about a place I’m very fond of.

I loved the mystery elements and the way you never quite knew what was going on. The descriptions and characters were so well written I felt like I was there. I loved the twists in the story. A great book to read on the run-up to Christmas or in between period where you need some escapism.

A DASH OF DECEPTION

Things get more complicated when a snowstorm descends, stranding them all, and the next morning they find one of the guests has been gruesomely murdered in their bed…

This is a cosy murder mystery. There is a snowstorm which strands the guests of the charity dinner and the phones are out - sounds like the start of a good book. Whilst an enjoyable read it didn't grip me. The book had such a slow plot - the murder happened around 30%. A welcoming read, with likeable characters - I just wish there was a bit more substance to the plot.

This book was a really nice surprise! I’m used to read only cute romances around this time and was not expecting to love this as much as i did! Is was so fun and i couldn’t put it down! Definitely recommend it if you’re looking for something to read around christmas time besides the typical romance stories

Apart from the very first one I have read all the books in the Nosy Parker seriesand I have the feeling it is getting better and better. A snowed-in manor house with a very motley crew of guests is and ideal background to a cosy mystery. Nearly everybody could be a suspect and you keep guessing. I loved it. I am looking forward to the next instalment.

Having read the previous books in the series, I was so excited to see this one as I LOVED the others.
This story was good, it still has the hysterical antics of Jodie and especially her mum's one liners are just brilliant, but I felt it was missing something. Whether it was the fabulous Cornish surroundings, her fabulous best friend or the dashes off to rescue people in the 'gimpmobile, I don't know.
Yes the other ones are that good...
I did still enjoy it and found myself racing to the end.
