A great book with a range of drinks. I was impressed with the variety, though some of the ingredients could be difficult to obtain. This is a physical book I would definitely purchase for my bar cart. I liked the images and the aesthetic of the book.
Drinks based on song titles written by T-Pain? How could 1 go wrong with that? As someone who is what I like to call a bootleg bartender, these are drinks that i would make for ladies night and wait for the hilarious memories and stories to follow!
The quality and appearance of the book was similar to other mixology books I've come across. The photos, unique names, and T-Pain tidbits made it a stand out book to me. It was fun going down memory lane of some of his songs and features. I would purchase this as a gift. I have a few friends that would love it.
This was a great book that really lets the reader get into T-Pain's brain and life while still making some great drinks.
T-Pain created a enjoyable book, full of great anecdotes, beautiful photos and FUN cocktail recipes with interesting ingredients and names. A great gift for someone who loves T-Pain or loves cocktails!
The best part of this book were the hilarious cocktail names, the gorgeous photography, and listening to T-Pain's songs while I read it. I'm not sure I'd ever actually make any of these, but it was filled with the artist's mischievousness and celebration of excess.
I picked this book as I wanted to try some new cocktails. I was delighted with the book, with many new varaitions on cocktails. Some ingredients, are unusual i.e. CBD oil as i was unaware that it could be added to alcohol?? Some of the cocktails also seem very calorific.
Overall, T-Pain gives great insight into his life and there is a good selection of cocktails to try.
Thank you Netgalley for a free e-copy of the book in return for an honest review.
A fun book with amazing drinks and a story to tell. Enlistment both for the drink ideas and for the insight into the kids of T-Pain.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the chance to read an advance copy of this book. #CanIMixYouADrink
I wish I had a full bar set up to try each and every one of these cocktails named after T-Pain's hit songs. I'm not sure if the "rules" are tongue-in-cheek or serious, but they certainly give a chuckle. I'd buy this one as a coffee table book even though he does say not to. Ha!
I received an electronic copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Full disclosure here: I'm not a huge fan of T-Pain's style of music, although I respect the artistry and skill behind it. I downloaded this book not as a fan or a huge drinker, but because people are fascinating. I was particularly struck by the introduction, where he outlines (along with his introduction to alcohol as a legless teen) his deconstruction of music and how he learned to craft his songs.
This is a book of 50 cocktails, each one named for one of T-Pain's songs. The photography of the drinks is particularly stunning, and the recipes themselves make mixology accessible. There are some specialised ingredients included, and T-Pain's preferred brands are recommended (although, of course, it depends on local availability). There are also lists of specially prepared infusions, garnishes, and ingredients in the back of the book to aid the crafting of the cocktails.
Interspersed throughout are small anecdotes or notes from T-Pain, some wise, some funny, all very much in his own unique voice, from club ettiquette to responsible (ish) drinking, to generally having fun with what you do.
I will definitely be trying some of these cocktails!
~Many thanks to NetGalley and Kingston Imperial for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review~
Thank you to both #NetGalley and Kingston Imperial for providing me a copy of T Pain and Maxwell Britten’s cocktail book, #CanIMixYouaDrink?, in exchange for an honest review.
Unlike T-Pain who jokes that he knew he would be writing a cocktail book one day, I had zero idea I would be reading one that was written by him. The book is divided into seemingly random sections that begin with a humorous anecdote or rule about drinking from T-Pain—the funniest being his acknowledgment letter at the end.
Full disclosure: I am somewhat biased since I am a fan of T-Pain, but that does not negate the fact that the cocktail recipes sound delicious and the glossy, high-quality photographs of the finished product provide the perfect evidence to further support this notion.
As a former bartender myself, I strongly recommend any recipes that contain blanco tequila or mezcal (if you enjoy those bases of course!). I am personally most intrigued by the recipe entitled, “Suicide,” which is made with Ghost Pepper Espolon Blanco Tequila.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kingston Imperial for a copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
I had requested this book because “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” by T-Pain was a constant high school jam when it came out in 2007, and now that I am well on the legal side of 21, I thought it would be a lot of fun to make some fancy alcoholic drinks created by a rapper of my youth. Full disclosure – I pretty much never drink, so this turned into a group affair with our family Christmas get-together being the drinking event. We made the drink called All I Do Is Win, which is a bourbon-based drink, but I feel like it could have been easily adapted to other alcohols. The instructions for making this drink were clear enough, but I am sure it would have been easier to understand if you are used to reading alcoholic drink recipes. Out of the 5 of us, 3 people really liked it and the other 2 of us were more indifferent (we didn’t dislike it, but we weren’t over the moon with it). My favorite description of this drink was that it tastes the way Bed, Bath and Beyond smells like it would taste. It is filled with citrus, so it makes sense, but it was so funny. There are quite a few other drinks that look good and so we are going to try and make them in the future. Bonus – the little blurbs T-Pain writes in-between the drink recipes are fun to read, the photography is gorgeous, and overall it’s a great coffee table book regardless of whether you drink or not. 4/5
Every time I pick up this book, I hear a familiar refrain in my head after reading the title,
“… and theeen, I’ma take you home with meee.” (“Buy You a Drank“)
I expected nothing less than clever quips and ridiculous stories from T-Pain. It goes without saying that he’s a talented musician, but I’ve always enjoyed his presence which comes across as him just being a really funny, relatable guy who’s here for a good time and wants to pull you in on the fun. The kind person you can’t be around for long before he says something to make you actually laugh out loud.
Thus was my experience with Can I Mix You a Drink. From the introduction, in which he shares his own introduction to alcohol with a humorous, yet concerning anecdote, it’s clear this book will take you on a ride that’ll have you laughing all the way to your home bar set-up.
Can I Mix You a Drink highlights 50 cocktails inspired by songs from T-Pain’s catalog. Each recipe features key details that you expect from mixology: the style (shaken or stirred), the alcohol base, full ingredient list, recommended glassware, ice (where applicable), garnish (because you’re fancy), tools, and finally, the methodology. Some cocktails have additional notes about particular ingredients, such as recommended brands, where to acquire them, or recipes for an ingredient (e.g. simple syrup). Accompanying each recipe is the drink itself, presented in all its high-definition glory. The photos are appetizing and do a great job of highlighting each drink’s unique characteristic or ingredient. Interspersed among the recipes are tidbits of T-Pain wisdom. He offers drinking game suggestions, golden rules of drinking, his best practices for “watching the art of exotic dance,” and how to drink (relatively) responsibly.
I appreciate that Can I Mix You a Drink features 50 recipes, and regardless of your bartending skill level or tastes, you can find something you can recreate. I was very impressed with the range of recipes. There are, of course, some familiar recipe combinations with common flavors. Then, however, some recipes have unique or less common ingredients like CBD oil, infused liquors and techniques that will stretch your bartending capabilities. This is, perhaps, what I enjoy most about this book overall — if you’re not well-versed in the complexities and possibilities of cocktails, this book is a fun introduction. There are plenty options to choose from with simple instructions to replicate and gorgeous photos to compare your creation to. Can I Mix You a Drink makes mixology more accessible and far less daunting than I’ve come across before.
I recommend this book for fans of T-Pain or his music, fans of alcohol, fans of humor … you get the point. This is a book by an author who doesn’t take himself too seriously, so you shouldn’t either. Grab some friends, start a game of recreating the recipes, and “make some bad decisions in the comfort of our own homes.”
First, I have to say this book is amazing. From the very beginning title, to the very end I loved it. When I read the dedication, I have to admit that I cried. When my paw paw passed away, here in Alabama, and I am sure the author knows about this being in the South, when there is a funeral procession all traffic stops until you pass by. I remember I wanted that for my paw paw because my world stopped when he died, and I wanted everyone else to as well.
The descriptions before the sections are perfection. I laughed in all the right places, and was like, "Yep." I loved the "Fancy" glasses and feel I need that in my life. I could not help but chuckle when he said he went to a weird boutique with cat fur pillows because I was torn between, I have that naturally at home, and I need one of those. I honestly wish this was a series of books because I could read them all day. T-PAIN, would you consider some books with baked goods? Or grilling for grills? Or... really just anything else? Maybe a drinks part II? Your gift for storytelling is amazing, and honestly, I read this book right on time. I have been feeling really low and down, and this picked me right up. Thank you for that. There are several drinks that I cannot wait to try!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the ARC of this amazing book in exchange for an honest review.
Starting with the title being a reference to one of his songs, T-Pain's drinks of choice for this mixology recipe book were great. All of these are great mixes that are appealing and are all named after his songs. T-Pain's sense of humor shines through the anecdotes included in the book. I would highly recommend this for any T-Pain fans.
Can I Mix You a Drink is a collection of 50 drink recipes by “rapper ternt sanga” T-Pain and mixologist Maxwell Britten. Each drink has been named and curated after one of T-Pain’s songs, and is accompanied by a beautiful mouth-watering photograph. The book is also scattered with T-Pain’s quips on drinking and alcohol. One thing is for certain, T-Pain knows his alcohol.
The recipes run the gambit from rum to gin to mezcal, and everything in between. However, some of the recipes have quite a few ingredients and a number of steps to complete. These aren’t your dorm room cocktails. As a gin girl, I can’t wait to try my hand at “Texting my Ex”, “She’s a Vibe”, and “Best Love Song”. And of note, a version of “Flight School” was recommended to me by a Navy doc a few years ago, so I already know that’s a good one.
This would make an excellent gift for the mixologists on your list. I plan to take T-Pain’s advice and add this to the bar kit.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Can I Mix You a Drink? by T-Pain and Maxwell Britten was a delight to check out! As a fan of T-Pain, I can appreciate a collection of beautiful drinks named after hits by the "rapper ternt sanga" himself. Throughout the book we see 50 recipes + glossy photos of mouthwatering drinks sprinkled with witty commentary by T-Pain in between each selection. Reading every word in his voice made this such a fun book to flip through.
Any fan of T-Pain or those who love playing bartender at home would love to add this book to their collection or coffee table. While many of these drinks look a bit ambitious for my poor mixing skills, I can't wait to try some of them. In fact, "Chopped and Skrewed," "Tipsy," "She's a Vibe," and "All I Do is Win" will definitely be made around my bar in the near future.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kingston Imperial for the ARC!
This was a beautifully laid out and well designed book. I enjoyed the quips that T-PAIN through in throughout the recipes. I highly recommend this book. It would make a great holiday gift!
Can I Mix You a Drink? by T-PAIN and Maxwell Britten is an amazing mixology recipe book. The layout, colors, pictures, and font are ALL on point. The drink recipes are interesting and the level of detail for each one is great. This book is so amazing and beautiful, I bought the hard copy. If you want to try your hand at making yummy drinks, buy this book.
