The book had me very interested and I was unable to put it down. The plot was good, however, the ending was so abrupt it didn’t make sense, I didn’t see it coming and I sure wasn’t expecting it. It kept me questioning what actually happened back when the murders took place, what ended up happening to Doyle at the end, it just left me wanting more information.

This was the best book! I read it in one sitting. I was on the edge of my seat and was shocked at some of the twists. I never can figure out the thriller books! I would definitely recommend this book.

Anna and John still happily married after all these years but something is missing - a child. John isn’t able to so Anna hunts for a suitable donor and chooses handsome Irishman, Doyle. So far so good but then the book heads downhill very quickly. Would a man who beat his wife be allowed to rejoin the police and even worse interview a relative?? I’ve been to Cornwall several times but not once have I come across a MOUNTAIN! Anna despite being educated is unbelievably stupid. There’s some repetition plus things that have changed the second time it’s mentioned. Needs a good proofreader to spot these howlers. Plenty of loose ends so a bit pointless introducing some of the characters. And the ending? - no. It was quite a lively book at times but the aforementioned points lost the stars sadly.

Pretty good plot. Anna Wilson and her husband seemed to have the perfect life until they realized they could not conceive on their own so they decide to go to.a sperm bank. The waiting lists for a sperm bank donor are lengthy and cannot guarantee facts about the actual donor. Anna has a list of ideas for her perfect donor and they pick a man, Doyle. Anna finds him attractive. She believes he is the perfect candidate. But when Doyle turns up and expects to extract his donation in their house, with them in close proximity, rather than just brought them his sample of sperm from his home John takes an almost instant dislike to Doyle. Doyle tries to weasel his way into their lives constantly. John starts to believe that this sperm donor idea was not a very good one, but then Anna finds out she is pregnant finally and that is all she thinks about. That should have been the end of their relationship with Doyle, but when they are visited by her estranged father, now a detective asking questions about Doyle and his contact with them, they find out he is the prime suspect in three murders. Anna needs to figure out who their donor truly is and if they are definitely responsible for three separate women’s deaths, before she can even consider her husband’s request that she abort this long wished for baby, before it is too late! She can lose everything and everyone she has worked so hard for.

My mind is BLOWN by this novel. 🤯🤯🤯. Burgess has written this heartbreaking but also horrifying novel of Anna and her husband, who after years of trying to conceive, have moved on to using a sperm donor and Anna immediately falls pregnant.

Anna is blissfully in love with her life but soon they find details about the sperm donor leave them shaken up. And it just gets worse from there.

This novel is well-written, with a nice rhythm and character development.

The donor is definitely a domestic psychological thriller.. Anna has it all a great career, big house and a wonderful husband. After 18 years together they finally decide to have a child . When they can’t get pregnant the decide to go with a sperm donor. I found the blurb in the beginning about how difficult it is and that there’s donors on the black market so to speak in the UK. A must read for fans of suspense!

Reminded me of a cheap lifetime movie. The plot line was interesting, but the execution was lacking. I just felt like this one was bit of a swing and a miss. The weird thing is, i cant quite put my finger on exactly what I didn't like about it. It's just overall, "meh"

It was definitely evident from the book that the author was definitely a man. There was just this vapid feel to Anna, however she is supposed to be so well educated and tenured to boot. It is offputting because control is mentioned throughout, but she cannot make a decision to save her life (literally). Her actions were not those of an educated woman. I couldn't really get the husband either. He was not completely on board, however is present for the deposits that are made in a creepy way. He did surprise me a bit in the end with his actions, however it was one of the weirdest save the day moments I have read. There was a lot of teeth in this book and I actually found this to be unique and horrific in part. Thanks for the ARC, Netgalley.

Thank you to the publisher for the gifted copy in exchange of an honest review. TW: infertility

What would you do if you were pregnant and you found out the donor might be a murderer?

Anna and her husband are trying to have a baby, but her husband is not having much luck. They decide to use a known donor to help out and do fertilization at home. The only question is, how much do they really know about the donor they chose? He has been in their home. He knows where they live. Can that DNA for evil be inherited?

Told through twists and turns and bouts of suspense, Anna must fight the struggle she has within and her husband after finding out the donor has been arrested for murder. What do they do about his child, that is growing inside of her? This is a test of nature vs nurture and how they must determine if evil is inherited. See how this couple learns to grow together, apart, and ultimately, for their baby that has yet to be born.

A really great book for a debut novel. Twisty and creepy and kept me gripped from the beginning. I will certainly be looking out for more from this author. Highly recommended

What if the one thing you want more than anything in the world is something that you can’t have? What will you do to get it? Anna and her husband want a child, but unfortunately, for certain reasons, that is not in the cards for them in the manner in which they have tried to conceive. Now that happens if you are presented with an opportunity to have a child, but you have to take a different path in order to do so? What is you think you have made the perfect choice, done everything that you possibly could to make this work out? And yet…something is not quite right. Anna tries to fix it, but at what cost? These questions and more can be answered by picking up The Donor. The plot is good, there are some twists to keep you on your toes and engaged, and you will not want to put it down. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

This blurb really interested me and it was engaging to begin with but then it just stagnated. Where it was a quick read it also felt like there was a huge portion of the book missing. I’ve never read any of this authors work before and I did like the style of writing but in my opinion there just wasn’t enough plot or character development. Where was the background information to get a sense of the characters and to get you to the conclusion and bring it all together. It started off gripping, through up a twist or 2 but with the turn of a page I found I was heading into the conclusion. The few explanations that were given were rushed with not enough information and a lot of unanswered questions. It’s a pity as it had the potential to be a really good read if executed differently.

She decides she wants to have a child through a donor. But after the “transaction” she begins to find out things about the donor that makes her second guess her decision and her safety. This book was a page turning thriller and I highly recommend. A little predictable but totally worth the read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

I have to say that I really started off enjoying this book. It started off with a bang, and keep me intrigued throughout, until about the 65% mark. We follow Anna and her husband, John, who have been unable to get pregnant, and Anna has sought out a sperm donor through the internet. Enter Doyle, the donor. He is good looking, educated, etc., everything Anna had on her check list for the donor's personality/physical traits. Right off the bat, John does not like Doyle, something is just off. What happens from there just kind of went down a spiral of events. There have been murders taking place in the community, and Doyle has been arrested as the prime suspect. Anna and John then begin to fear that their baby will have murderous traits when it grows up, just like Doyle. Anna, being a psychology professor/teacher at the local college, goes on the hunt to find evidence to clear Doyle, because she does not believe he is capable of the crimes. The most ridiculous part of this was Anna flies to another country without telling her husband to locate a person from Doyle's past. I found that part a little far fetched. The plot picked up towards the end, and ended up being suspenseful, but predictable. This was a not a bad debut novel, and I would definitely read more by this author in the future.

This book while predictable is still very intriguing. The storyline was enjoyable despite myself being able to predict majority of the stuff that would happen and turns out to be correct.

Anna Wilson & John, her husband have a good life. They have successful careers, a good life & are still in love. When Anna's mother dies she begins to realise her biological clock is ticking & wants a baby. When they find out John is infertile, Anna in her organised way investigates sperm donors; enter Doyle- handsome Irishman! Anna becomes pregnant quickly but when Doyle suspected of murder & is arrested they are knocked for six. Should they carry on with the pregnancy? Anna sets out to find out more about Doyle.

This was a difficult book to review. Although I was totally engaged with it there were a lot places where I found myself thinking, "That wouldn't happen" "Where did that idea come from?" as well as finding Anna pretty dislikeable at times- I did really feel for John! Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
