Chase Wilde Comes Home by Jennifer Ryan is a great story that you should read. This is a second chance romance story between Chase and Shelby. These two have history together with a baby from a one-night stand. These two have issues that they need to work through to be together. But they find that they can help each other and get through it. The story was well written, and the pace was slow and steady. I recommend this story and love to read stories by this author.
Thank you NetGalley for providing this ARC story in exchange for my honest review.
Though I do love military heroes and even wounded warrior heroes. I don’t like the secret baby trope. I personally think it’s overdone. I also don’t like it when the heroine uses hers and the hero’s child as leverage simply because he chose to go into the military.
Chase Wilde Comes Home is an endearing story with lovely main characters and a sweet little family that you fall in love with immediately. You'll root for Chase, Shelby and Eliza as they navigate angry family members and incredibly troubling pasts. This novel is full of important messages about mental health and victims rights and how to move beyond your past and have a Happily Ever After.
Swoon alert! This book will have you falling in love with Chase Wilde and wanting to take care of him in many ways. I love Jennifer Ryan’s writing style and the way she pulls you in just enough from the beginning to keep you there throughout the book.
Arc given by NetGalley for honest opinion.
We have second chance romance between Chase and Shelby. It was a little slow for me and there was a lot , a lot of going on, there was times that it picked up but then it would be slow again, it was good but a little slower than I am used to.
rcvd and ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley)..voluntarily reviewed with my own thoughts and opinions
This is a good book one you will have trouble putting down. The two main characters are Shelby and Chase. Shelby is a physical therapist and Chase just out of rehab. Two years ago they meet in a bar and had a one night stand. Nine months later they had Eliza. Chase retires from the military, he has PSD. He wants to be in Eliza’s life. They both have issues they each need to work through. Together they help each other. Chase proposes tonShelby because he loves her. She says yes.
I received this ARC by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This story was very difficult and emotional in some parts because of the subjects (PTDS, Substance Abuse and Low Self- Esteem) that Ryan has included in her story. I really enjoy this love story and routing for both Chase and Shelby.
You are pulled into the relationship of Chase Wilde who suffers from PTDS and recovering from substance abuse and Shelby Payne who has a very low self-esteem because of her history and the treatment she has received from townspeople. These two lost souls meet up and have a wild and wonderful one night stand before Chase ships out on assignment. Shortly afterwards Shelby finds out she is pregnant and tries to contact Chase but it becomes difficult but she finally does. He is somewhat involved with their daughter until the PTDS and drugs became a problem. Chase cleans himself up and finds a place to live until he is in a better frame of mind but a tragic accident happens and Chase almost dies from an overdose of cocaine. His family has given up on him, he has given up on himself but Shelby and his daughter are there for him and gives him the will to move on. This story follows this relationship and its difficulties but true love conquers all.
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
I had a hard time at first getting into this book however I am glad I kept reading. The relationship part of the romance was sweet and believable. The relationship with the father was intense .
Overall a great read and I would read more by this author.
This is a great book with a lot of emotions. I cried, cheered, and even got mad a time a two on behalf of the two main characters, Chase and Shelby.
Chase and Shelby met over two years ago and had an unforgettable one night stand. After, Chase was deployed, and it wasn't until a few months later Shelby discovered she was pregnant. Shelby did everything in her power to keep Chase as a part of their daughter's life, but when he came back he was wounded both physically and mentally. His family had given up on him, but Shelby decided to step in and help him heal. What they hadn't expected was for Shelby's past to catch up with her in a terrifying way.
Great characters with real life issues and emotions. Loved the story and cannot wait to read more about the Wilde family.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Imperfections are what make us humans. No matter how far wrong we have gone, we can always turn around. Takes lot of courage, non-judgemental support and unconditional love to follow this path, and finding forgiveness from the places we hurt is the ultimate in redemption.
Meet Chase Wilde. A warrior at heart, but fighting demons of the unthinkable. With stilted family dynamics, and trying to make a fresh start, he’s at the crossroads of his life. His saving grace is his adorable daughter and the mother of his child, Shelby Payne.
A loving mother and with her heart belonging to Chase Wilde since she was a teenager, Shelby Payne is the ultimate crusader for Chase, supporting his struggles, and helping him chase his demons. With a troubled past of her own, yet with courage, she creates an intelligent and remarkable opportunity for Chase to come home to - to a home, a family, and a chance to make a life of his own.
Both Shelby and Chase may be in love with each other, but they have shadows of evil dogging their backs and they need to put them to rest before they can become a family. Then and only then “Chase Wilde Comes Home”, truly and forever.
Jennifer Ryan always had an exceptional writing and narrative skill and no review will do justice to any of her books unless read in person. Her narrative always makes me emotional, be it a situation between a father and son, siblings or between lovers. They are poignant, realistic and so very true to the circumstances in the plot.
She has set precedence to another intense series as the Wyoming Wildes take the readers on an exhilarating ride!!!
Received an ARC from Avon And Harper Voyager via NetGalley
This book was so good and it's a wilde book so you know the men are H.O.T.
chase had a few rough patches when sent home due to injuries in the military and finding that after taking pain meds he got addicted to it made it tough for him, but he was determined to get back to his daughter that was suppose to a one night stand but turns out it saved him and the baby's mom was always there for support. Shelby has always been the talk of the town cause of who her parents are and what happened. But when she is being stalked they knew things would never get any better so they had to find a way to stay safe.
Picking up a Jennifer Ryan novel is a guarantee that nothing else will get done until I've finished reading! This is the first book in what most likely will be a trilogy featuring the Wilde brothers. Chase, the oldest Wilde sibling, is dealing with PTSD and is fresh out of rehab but what he wants more than anything is to connect with his daughter and hopefully her mother. But Shelby has her own set of issues to overcome that may prevent her from finally having the family she's never had. Plenty of drama, romance and a touch of suspense made this a very enjoyable read. There are some potential triggers in this book including the mention of a rape (Shelby was conceived during a rape), overdose and mental illness.
Aw, that was nice of Shelby to do.
Poor guy. He has major survivor's guilt on top of the effects of war.
Who is harassing her?!
Dude, marry her right now.
So creepy.
Get a life, Hunt.
Kyle's parents are totally dead.
Attagirl, Eliza. Go for the bread first.
Huh. Hunt had a good reason. Who knew.
Ha, "bizarre sporting event".
Thank God for that judge.
What is going on with Cyn and her sister? Why does no one go to Hunt for help?
I pushed through this, but the writing was pretty dismal. The summary sounded right up my alley, but just not a good fit for me.
I had some mixed feelings about this book. The first half of the book was EXTREMELY slow. Then, it picked up a little bit, got slow again, and then picked up at the end. Yes, this book covers some very heavy and serious topics: PSTD, rape, kidnapping, murder, addiction... it's a lot all in one book. At times, I felt like I was never going to get through it, but I just kept going. I can't even tell you how many times I almost DNF this book. Honestly, I would put the book down in the middle of the scene and then when I picked it back up a few hours later, I would have to go back to understand what I was reading. I don't normally forget what I'm reading when I'm only reading one book.
Aside from that, I actually really enjoyed the characters. I loved Shelby and Chase. I loved their love story and how they got together. They have been through a lot together, but still love each other through all the ups and downs. The plot was actually interesting, despite me almost not being able to get through the book. Chase just got out of rehab and wanted to start over with Shelby and their daughter to become the person that he wanted them to be.
I think my main problem with this book was that it just seem to drag on forever and I never felt like I was making progress until I hit the 50% mark. I am almost tempted to continue the series to see what happens with Chase's brother, Hunt, because I know it will be an interesting story and I loved the characters; however, I don't know if I could get through it.
Also, the cover is amazing!
Thanks Netgalley for a arc copy of this book for a honest review..
I'm not really into romantic suspense I did enjoy reading Chase Wild Comes Home. This book was a enjoyable read 3 1/2
Happy Reading Lisa 📚
What an emotional ride. Chase battling his demons so hard. Shelby,
even while fighting thru her own battles was rock solid, for Eliza and Chase.
This book is a must for everyone who ever had to do the “hard work” to get their happy ever after. There is never any shame in getting help and needing people…❤️ Loved this book!

Chase Wilde Comes Home is book one in author Jennifer Ryan’s newest series, Wyoming Wilde.
****This review may contain spoilers — stop reading now to avoid them****
*****Before I start the review this book has several potential triggers including: substance abuse, addiction, and overdose; Murder of secondary characters off page; mental & physical abuse of a MC; Rape of secondary character off page; Mental illness including: Delusional states, PTSD, and psychopath; abduction of MC.*****
This story is one that is FULL of emotional baggage and follows two characters who are trying desperately to leave the past behind and live in the now. Shelby & Chase met one night at a bar, it was his last night home on leave from the military, they spent it together - had an explosive night of amazing sex — then Chase left Shelby behind to return to duty. Turns out he leaves Shelby with a piece of himself and 9-months later his daughter was born, he watched via a cellphone while sitting in a battlefield, his heart was claimed that day by Shelby & his baby girl Eliza. Fast-forward two years, numerous video calls, and many battle wounds (mental & physical) and Chase is coming home. Only he doesn’t come back to his hometown the same man he was when he left; he is addicted to pain medication and suffering from severe PTSD. Shelby has to send him away one night when he shows up high and out of his mind, she tells him “Get your shit together if you want to see your daughter” — Chase checks into rehab. Two months later Shelby is there to pick him up from rehab and all Chase wants is to start a life with her and their daughter.
Of course having their HEA was never going to be easy but the odds are even more stacked against them because Shelby doesn’t believe anyone could ever want or love her. You see Shelby is the consequence of her mother being kidnapped, tortured, and raped. Nobody has ever cared for her, not her mom who tried to drown her as an infant, not her grandparents who raised her out of duty then washed their hands of her, and definitely not the town she grew up in where people won’t let her live without ridicule and disdain. So she can’t understand why Chase would want her other than to see his daughter.
Talk about emotional baggage and angst — this story has it in spades!! When I was reading this story I just kept wondering how much more the author was going to put these two through. I just wanted them to find some happiness and fall in love with each other. These two deserve their happily ever after. The question is, do they have a chance with the deck stacked against them?
The chemistry and passion between Chase and Shelby was off the charts— Hot. Hot. Hot 🔥🔥 Jennifer Ryan definitely knows how to write some hot scenes. Make sure you bring an extra pair of panties because they are going up in flames!
Overall I am giving this story a solid 4 Stars ⭐️ | 4 Flames 🔥 and I hope the author remembers the epilogue next time!
Shelby and Chase have a daughter out of a one night stand and while Shelby is bringing up the baby, Eliza, Chase continues in the military. He is severely injured, gets hooked on the pain meds and must go into rehab. At the end of rehab Shelby picks up Chase and takes him to a property that, unbeknownst to him, she purchased for him with the support payment money he sent. Of course, Chase’s two brothers and his fathers are there as well to ruin the surprise and make him start to doubt everything -including whether his daughter with Shelby is even biologically his child. On Shelby’s side is an abusive father whose rape of her mother produced Shelby. He is stalking her and wants to take her and Eliza away to ‘make a family.’ Shelby and Chase have so much pain and baggage in their lives but they really work to become a family.
This should be a hard and unappealing book to read as it deals with addiction, PTSD and rape. But it is redemptive. It is a beautiful love story that blossoms out of the ashes that many of us have dealt with in our lives. And none of it rings false. For instance, the PTSD doesn’t just magically fade away because someone is loved enough. Yes, that love is a pillar but also portrayed is the time and effort spent in therapy, the assistance of mood stabilizers, the help of a therapy dog. Their growing love doesn’t magically heal everything; their hard work does. But their growing love does heal some things and makes their lives beautiful. And beautiful and satisfying to read about.
Homecomings are often filled with angst, questionable expectations and dare we say hope. For Chase Wilde his homecoming was a compilation of anything you could imagine. Life has been tough since Chase left home, joined the military, saw things, experienced a world better left in the dark. Chase carried many scars and was left with issues that were going to take time and patience. Chase was an impatient man.
In one moment of extraordinary need he took advantage of kindness, warmth and affection with a young woman Shelby. Shelby is another needy soul with a huge heart and an abundance of kindness. You might say Chase took advantage of those qualities. But when Shelby winds up pregnant Chase grabs hold on the prospect of having a daughter. Someone who he could love unconditionally. Problem was that Chase still had so many problems of his own to work through. Shelby was quick to realize that she had to oversee her daughter’s safety. Even though she held secret feelings for the man she had a one-night fling, Shelby was determined to hide them. Eliza was the most important person in this triangle.
Shelby somehow manages to set up a homey life for Chase financed by his extraordinary generosity to Eliza and her. She hadn’t expected Chase to send her money and had a plan with it. Chase’s return home to a ranch was bankrolled by his generous stipends. Shelby thought this would be a wonderful way for Chase to exorcise his demons, find new meaning and worth and most importantly provide a safe, healthy environment for visits with their daughter.
Shelby did not include herself in this scenario. Chase Wilde was way beyond her in stature and family. She didn’t bring anything of value to any relationship. Chase family made sure to remind her of that fact. But Eliza was a link.
Shelby’s life has been one of tragedy. From the time she was a toddler life was clouded with knowledge of that tragedy. Brought up by grandparents that had difficulty seeing Shelby through that cloud surely stunted her development. In fact she was certain that she was unlovable. So imagine her inability to trust that someone as wonderful as Chase might really love her.
CHASE WILDE COMES HOME is part of the Wyoming Wilde’s series by Jennifer Ryan. I have truly enjoyed each story in this series but there is something special about CHASE WILDE COMES HOME which makes it my favorite. Perhaps it is these characters that truly touch your heart. Or maybe just the feeling that they so deserve a happy ending. Whatever the case CHASE WILDE COMES HOME is guaranteed to find a way into your heart.
