A cute diverse book about different types of hair (or covered hair).

Every time I see another news headline about a woman in hijab denied the right to work, or study, or live her life normally…I wonder what the solution to such ignorance could be.

I genuinely loved that this early Picture book (I would call it a baby book, and hope it ends up being published as a board book). I love the vibrant art and short terms, and I can see my baby enjoying looking at this book.

The book covers all sorts of hair: long, short, mustache, monster, cornrow, covered, cap, kippah, party, poufy, beard, bun, wavy, windy, afro and all gone hair!

I liked how it is called The Hair Book, and includes a page on those who cover their hair! Hijab wasn’t the only diverse cover, but a kippah is included as well and a picture shows a man with a beard and turban. Many of the images are diverse and I loved that it was all drawn lovingly.

My favorite part was the ending: “no matter your hair, you are welcome anywhere”

I hope books like this read to youngsters remove ignorance from our world and help normalize beauty in diversity.

I love the style of illustrations in this book! There were a lot of different types of people with different hairstyles shown. An adorable board book that I will recommend to everyone.

There are so many hair picture books these days, especially those celebrating Black hair. And those are needed! But it's rare to find a hair book these days that show a range of different types of hair (and hair coverings), e.g., long, straight, light, dark, feminine, masculine. A lovely concept book with a single word on every page that alternates with boldly colored, stylized illustrations. Would definitely add to the board-book or body section of my prek-5 school library.

I love this picture book! It highlights all sorts of different hairstyles and types of hair that individuals possess, and the simple but solid illustration style serves well in keeping the focus on the diversity of the people. This is such a cool idea because children should learn and understand that no matter how different many people might look compared with each other, we are all human beings who are beautiful and should be valued and loved and belong. The racial and cultural representation in this picture book is fantastic, and the words used in the book are impactful despite being minimal, most specially on its final pages. I can totally see young children flipping through this book and staring at the colorful illustrations for hours. Wonderful job by the illustrator.

Thank you so much to Sterling Publishing and Netgalley for an arc in exchange for my honest thoughts.

This book had colorful abstract illustrations and sparse text that described various hairstyles or facial hair trends. However, it didn't go in depth or even accurately represent diverse characters. I think this will do well as a board book but it wasn't as deep as I was expecting.

Pair this with other books about diversity, hair love, and artistic expression and I think it would fit in quite well. It seems to try to hit the same tones as Sesame Street's "We're Different, We're the Same" but didn't quite hit the mark.

This was so short and sweet— the formula for a perfect kids book. I loved the message of all hair being different, but still being good. The bright colors and simple illustrations are sure to make this a kids favorite.

This book is SO sweet. Hair can be a complex and tricky topic particularly for children who may not yet have the vocabulary to discuss hair in a manner that is respectful and this book provides them with just that. The illustrations are adorable and the message of welcome is great.

Thank you to Sterling Children's Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book early. All opinions expressed are my own.

A lovely book for young readers filled with diversity and bright eye-catching illustrations. An easy book for kids to follow with lots of room for discussion/questions between young ones and their parents/guardians about different types of people and the ways they present themselves based on gender, race, religion, or so on. Introducing kids to diversity at an early age is so important and this easy read is a perfect way to do so.

Review to come February 2022 on blog/goodreads/etc..

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I just couldn't resist this book, I haven't seen many hair books and this one looked colourful and fun.

In this book we discover all sorts of hair. From beards to party hair (though I would have expected a bit more party) to kippah hair and afro hair. It was so much fun to see all those hair styles and can you imagine, there is even more than what is in this book, so I hope that they make a second book with more hairs. I love the positive message at the end, definitely one some people need to hear (given how often I see newspaper or tweets about people who cannot have their natural hair at work or school).

I liked the art style, very abstract but still very recognisable. I love the colours the illustrator uses, it just pops~

Sadly, I am rating this was a tad lower because the formatting wasn't good. I get that this is an e-arc, but it could have been so much better. Now we sometimes get two words about different hair then suddenly we get two characters with the hair mentioned. Then the next we get a new word and then the next page is that hair, there were also a situation when we would get a word then an illustration then another illustration and then a word. It just was so confusing and I found myself scrolling back and forth not making the experience better.

Despite the formatting I would recommend this book, I am sure that once released it will have good formatting. This is one book that I am kids will love.

This book is SPECTACULAR! Loved this book and it's illustrations to show the diversity that exists in our world through our hair. It's fun, educational, and visually stimulating and welcoming, because as this beautiful books states, "No Matter Your Hair-You Are Welcome Anywhere"! I truly loved this book and I hope Latonya Yvette and Amanda Jane Jones, collaborate again and bring us more books like The Hair Book.
