I really enjoyed this book and liked the characters. The only problem I had was with some of the sleazy scenes that did not move the plot forward or add to the story. This is the first book I've read by Mia Sosa. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a free advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Wow wow wow! I absolutely loved this! This book should be the guide to the “fake dating” troupe!
Solange and Dean meet when Solange crashes Deans wedding and overhears the bride confessing her love for one of the groomsmen. After meeting Dean and seeing what a nice guy he is, she ends up stopping the wedding and telling Dean that the bride is in love with someone else. Dean later on ends up telling his firm that he is dating Solange to be considered for a partnership in his law firm and that’s how the fake dating scheme begins and it only gets better from there!
This book is spicy(the party scene omg), super super sweet and I also the family orientation in it.
Defiantly a 5 star read. Thank you NetGalley for a ARC copy!
Thank you so much to Avon for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!
Although I first struggled to get into the book, I really came to enjoy this one!
Dean is a strange character with a lot of lawyers stereotypes, but you can genuinely see that he grows to care for Solange over the length of this book. As usual, Mia Sosa wrote an amazing female protagonist. Solange is such an interesting, ocmplex character. I loved seeing her passion with her work, and her brutal honesty with Dean.
This book is hothothot, so if you're looking for some good steam, look no further!
Can't wait to see more form this world!
Great witty banter between Solange and Dean. I loved Solange’s vibe and energy much more than Lina’s from The Worst Best Man.
Literally was getting second hand embarrassment from reading the karaoke scene. Biggest smile/cringe moment.
Loved some of the pop culture references like Captain America and Game of Thrones.
Tropes:
- Fake Dating
- Wedding
- Guy falls first
- One bed
Spice: 🌶🌶
POV: dual
Light, fluffy rom com fun! This is the second book in this series after the Worst Best Man and it continues to be a fun beach read kind of book. It's not especially deep or especially novel but it keeps you turning pages and enjoying the ride. The secondary characters, especially the Tias, are the ones who shine here and I look forward to the next book in the series if only to catch up with them.
A fun spin-off novel from Mia Sosa’s The Worst Best Man, The Wedding Crasher introduces us to Solange Pereira, cousin to Lina (the wedding coordinator bride from TWBM). Solange finds herself in a compromising location where she accidentally overhears a conversation on a stairwell landing between the bride Ella, and her NON-fiancé confessing feelings of regret over the wedding to be. Enter the wedding crasher: Solange feels compelled to relay this information to groom Dean Chapman (fans of TWBM will remember him as Max’s best friend) as he’s about to be married.
What twist could make this wedding foible rom-com worthy? Why a fake-dating trope of course! Desperate to make partner at his firm, Dean must first convince the senior partners that he is not emotionally crushed by his failed wedding and in a ploy to win over lucrative recruit Kimberly Bailey, Dean “accidentally” slips that he is in a serious relationship with none other than Solange. Dean also mentions that he and his Solange would be happy to show Kimberly around town and convince her to join their D.C. firm.
Thus begins our interaction between Dean and Solange. Can they pull off a fake relationship in front of family, fellow lawyers, and Dean’s nosy competitor, Peter? Sosa is the queen of witty banter and playful jokes. The chemistry between Dean and Solange which seems so poorly matched at first, grows fire hot under very specific circumstances. Dean is a white, tight-laced lawyer that lives only by a plan, ticking off each item as he goes, and Solange is a charismatic Brazilian still unsure of what she wants to do with her life whether that means staying in D.C. or not. As they say, opposites attract, and Dean and Solange find they have much to learn from each other and may share more similarities than at first glance.
I loved the various twists and awkward situations Sosa puts her characters through and it was fun to see what they would make of them. From ax throwing, the birth of a baby, sexy karaoke, and an AWKWARD party, to a possible Vegas wedding, Sosa kept me on my toes just as much as she did Solange and Dean. Would any of this happen in real life, probably not, but that’s what made the book so much fun—not knowing where this wild ride would take me.
I also love how considerate Sosa is of each character from the most to the least important; there is BIPOC, LBGTQ, and ACE representation, characters that are single-parents, students working towards their high school GED, and all of them are given the highest regards. In Sosa’s world, the good guy wins and character development is real and worthy of being promoted. I also adored the strong family bonds and connections between the Tias and their children. Love is underlying in each aspect of this book. And did I mention the sex scenes? So good! Dean’s dance moves being compared to Channing Tatum would make any woman swoon. Mia Sosa delivers a solid gem of a book and should be a must-buy author on anyone’s list.
Thank you to Avon, HarperCollins, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was a sequel that outranked its predecessor, and now I’m hoping there is a third volume. We were introduced to Solange and Dean in The Worst Best Man and their story did not disappoint. Both searching for something in their careers and lives, yet focused on different goals, their paths cross at Dean’s wedding. When Solange crashes it. Of course, hilarity ensues, but so do feelings neither of them expected. Formulaic, sure, but also sweet, with a diverse cast of supporting characters as well.
Mia Sosa always delivers for me! The previous novel in the series really helped me during the early days of the pandemic, and The Wedding Crasher provided a similar comfort. Solange and Dean were such delightful characters, and the supporting cast was just as fun. What I really appreciate about this series is its setting being Washington DC and having absolutely nothing to do with politics. This was a great book to start 2022 with!
It’s as if someone told Mia Sosa that she couldn’t write a funnier and sexier and swoon worthy follow up to The Worst Best Man and she was like “wanna bet?” and then proceeded to DOMINATE and give us an CRUSHING sequel.
It was everything I wanted. From the first chapter I was hooked. Solange is a PRESENCE, a delightful soul who is confident and hilarious and horny and free. She had me laughing all the time in the best ways and I loved her immensely.
Dean was already a favorite since we met him as Max’s best friend and getting a chance to be inside his mind just made me love him MORE.
God I could speak for HOURS about how much I loved this book.
It was fake dating trope executed perfectly, it was sexual tension rising and burning until it burst! It was meddling families and cutthroat coworkers and a bunch of calamities bringing these two together and I loved every second of it!
*chefs kiss* I cannot wait to own this book and have it on my shelf. Solange and Dean are definitely going to be one of my favorite couples of 2022
Fell in love with Lina & Max in THE WORST BEST MAN and I couldn't wait to hear Solange's story and Sosa brought it! Contains great classic romance troupes without feeling like it is being silly; also can I just say that after reading both of the listed books above I want to eat Brazilian food all day every day?! Also, I would love to read a book about all the tias from these books....they crack me up every time they show up.
This was a wonderful follow up to The Worst Best Man. I loved Solange and Dean and the way their relationship evolved, especially because fake dating is one of my favorite tropes. Despite only knowing each other a few weeks, their feelings somehow didn't feel like insta-love which I appreciated. The supporting cast of the book is also great- Solange's family is so colorful and caring and real and the little twist with Kimberly and Nia was a big surprise that I enjoyed. This book was funny and sexy and sweet and I am going to recommend it to everyone I know.
Folks, this is floofy, fluffy romance at its finest. It's full of tropes, it's utterly ridiculous at times, and it's earnest while never taking itself too seriously. Think 90's rom com, but updated with a diverse cast and a non-problematic male lead. I mean, it has everything. There's fake dating, there's only one bed, and at one point there's a rush to the airport, all from the perspective of a Brazilian woman whose was raised by a single mother who immigrated to the United States (and, you know, the guy's POV but that's kind of less exciting.)
This book also helps cement my theory that romance novels are the perfect pandemic reading. They are escapism, but they also present small-scale real world problems that are overcome in the end. Examples from this book include job dissatisfaction, life trajectory and decision making, and horrible co-workers. It feels good, to have issues presented that the protagonists persevere through, that may just be applicable to your own life. With, you know, some really great sex on the side.
I'm such a fan of The Worst Best Man, so safe to say I've been anticipating this one for awhile! The Wedding Crasher was over the top in the best way and nothing short of a wild ride
At the very start of the story, Solange overhears something she shouldn't that leads her to publicly object to a wedding between two people she doesn't know. Early on, you get a sense of her moral compass and what her ideas of love are, which drives her to speak up despite not knowing the couple personally. One half of the couple happens to be Dean, who has willingly entered this engagement of convenience to support his own ambitions. He's convinced himself that love and emotion only lead relationships to fail. What he wants is the commitment and stability apart from love.
I found Solange and Dean's opposing viewpoints of love to be such a fascinating contrast between them. Despite their differences, they get along incredibly well and communicate their desires beautifully. Their chemistry was off the charts, and I loved seeing the way each got under the other's skin until they were too far gone to go back. And everything I love about the fake dating trope - the subtle touches, the teaming up to get their stories straight, when the whole situation messes with their heads to the point where they can so easily imagine a real relationship - was so well done in here.
Overall, this was such a fantastic follow-up to The Worst Best Man! Mia Sosa is definitely an author to watch out for!
I was so excited to read this book after reading the first one in the series The Worst Best Man. I've always been fascinated by the idea of someone saying I object during a wedding.
I loved our main character Solange. She's a determined woman and doesn't get intimidated by anyone. Especially the asshole in this book named Peter. Mia Sosa did a great job of writing Peter, I'm sure everyone who reads this book will hate him and love Dean. Dean is a gentile soul and wants his life to be planned out but when he meets Solange at his wedding as she yells objections his world turns upside down.
With Fake Dating and one bed troupe this book is a fast read. I loved the romance and felt like it seemed accurate to the time. Dean was never in love with his ex fiancee so there was nothing to really get over with. The spicy scenes were great! There were only a few but they were good. Dean is definitely not boring where it counts.
One thing I love about Mia Sosa's books that I read so far is the family aspect. Solange is part of a very tight family. I enjoy seeing the love, respect and protectiveness they have over each other. The only issue I had with this book is that since it was so long since I read book one, I had forgotten all of the family and had to try remembering who is who. We also get more of the couple we followed in book one Max and Lina. Who are friends or family of Solange and Dean's. We really got to see how their family up bringing has shaped their view on love and dreams.
I recommend you read book one before reading this book as things will be spoiled for you if you are wanting to read Max and Lina's story. Also it will help you tremendously with figuring out who is who in this family.
I found Mia Sosa's The Worst Best Man to be extremely funny, so I was really looking forward to the follow up. While The Wedding Crasher wasn't quite as funny (to me), it was still an enjoyable read and I love the fake dating trope. Solange crashes (and then causes the cancellation of..) Dean's wedding, which she's at because her cousin is the wedding planner. He's ok because it was more a marriage of convenience than anything, but he needs a new girlfriend to impress the partners at his law firm, so he asks Solange to step in. I really liked Solange and her family, as well as her relationship with Dean. Some of Dean's work stuff involving the partners and a scheming rival was a bit stressful, but I liked both his and Solange's arcs. Sosa's books are always super charming, and this one is no exception.
The blurb promised a fake dating story which was one of my favorite tropes of romance and the reason for requesting it. I found it very hard to connect with MCs Dean and Solange. The chemistry between them feels forced and didn’t appear natural at all.
Solange works in the wedding organizers team and crashes Dean’s wedding after overhearing a conversation between the bride and her lover. Two weeks later, Dean approaches Solange as his fake date to impress the potential hire Kimberly and her partner who might bring a lot of high-end clients to his law firm which in turn paves way for him to become a partner.
Kimberly who in a long-term relationship laps up the Dean’s relationship with Solange which began within two weeks after his failed wedding. I found this hard to believe. He also sells the idea that Solange has been vocal to Dean about he and his fiancée weren’t perfect to each other. I was oh how she knew what’s going on in their relationship, how she knew what's best for them. Dean goes ahead with the wedding despite knowing they aren’t perfect just to move ahead in his career. All these aspects made me dislike this pair and couldn’t connect to these characters.
Dean immediately gets attracted to everything Solange does. This was another turn off for me as I was expecting the witty banter, funny fights between fake dating couples. One more thing is all the Latin conversations between Solange and her mom/aunts annoyed me as I couldn’t get what they were talking about.
Another cringe worthy scene involves an adult club which doesn’t add anything to the story but is totally unnecessary.
I love spicy with a plot! This book is mild spice, probably spice level 2 or 3 - but it really delivered for me. The Worst Best Man was a 5 star read for me and one of my 2020 top 5 favorite books. It plucked me out of a reading rut in the best way. I was so thankful to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read The Wedding Crasher and Mia Sosa did not disappoint. Excited for what's next.
I was nervous this wouldn’t live up to her first book but omg SO SO GOOD! I loved it and I can’t brag about it enough please don’t hesitate in picking this one up!
The Wedding Crasher is the follow up to The Worst Best Man. We’ve met Alex’s best friend Dean before but Lina’s cousin Solange was a new character. After crashing and ruining Dean’s wedding, Solange agrees to be his fake girlfriend to help bring in a new client and make partner at his law firm.
This book had all my favorite rom com elements:
- Fake dating
- One bed
- Good banter
- Spice
- Chaotic family members
- Dual POV
A fun and lighthearted book to spend an afternoon reading.
Thank you to Avon and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
OMG!! And I thought that nothing could get better than “The Worst Best Man”?? Somehow, it freaking did! I was swooning the entire book. Dean and Solange are everything. Sosa brings in the BEST witty banter in this book. I love how Dean is a good mix between an absolute sweetheart, jokester, while also being a sexy workaholic. All I’m gonna say is that the fashion show scene had me DYING of laughter. They’re so much swoony goodness between the two. I love the development of the side characters as well. Reading this book felt like getting a hug from your grandmother. I would do anything to get a hug from all of Solange’s tias. A solid romantic comedy to give you all the feels and feel all fuzzy inside. I don’t have any complaints about this book because it was SO GOOD!! A fantastic read to kick off the new year. Sosa does it again! 4.5/5 ⭐️‘s and there’s definitely some sweet spicy goodness 🌶🌶🌶
