This was so cute!!!! I absolutely loved the plot and everything that happened. Predictable in some parts but hey that's what a romance usually is and I love it.
The cover is so colourful and beautiful. Now that I've read the book, I get it!
I loved the characters. Immediately I was on Poppy's side and wow did I feel angry at Josh!!!
The writing is fast paced, funny, emotional and so easy to read.
This isn't the rom com you might think it is from the cover but it's still a ok read about a woman finding herself. Poppy is still living with her dreadful ex husband, which drags her down. She's a photographer and when she's roped into working a wedding by her friend Lola, she finds herself back in touch with an old friend, who just happens to be the groom about to marry a real bridezilla. Or will he? Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Mann's a good storyteller.
This is a bit of a fun book, a book that is somewhat easy to read but a book that was far too long (and which I must say, I skipped through some of it).
It had funny bits, predictable bits, some heartbreak and somewhat entertaining. It is not something I would normally read and I must say I probably wouldn't recommend it to my friends and family as I can't see them reading it either.
But overall it was an okay read but it was far too long!
When I started reading Abigail Mann's The Wedding Crasher, I was prepared for a romping romantic comedy. In a sense, I got that, but there were some bumps along the way.
Poppy is reluctant, about everything. Not sure about her own opinions, and that could be because of how her husband treats her. They are separated, but they still live together and work together at a local school. Poppy made the decision to "leave" but yet, she's still there.
When holiday time comes round, she's off to visit the island where she first met her husband to take photos of puffins. Photography is her passion, but she holds back, settling to teach students but not do anything serious with her own photography. Then she bumps into her friend, whom she hasn't seen very much of lately. Lola is a wedding planner and is in charge of a very secret wedding.
When the photographer turns up sick, Lola convinces Poppy to fill in as the photographer. However, she has to sign an NDA and promise not to talk about the people or events or share any photos. Turns out, the wedding is for two very rich families, and Poppy actually knows the groom...or does she? They went to university together, but he never used his real last name.
Poppy tries to fit in, but finds it awkward. There are some scenes meant to be funny, but it just didn't make me laugh out loud. There wasn't much romance, but lots of mishaps meant to be funny, and the ending wrapped up nicely.
Thank you to Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for the digital ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.
I'm not sure that this delivered what was promised - the premise, the cover, everything about this book screams "fun rom com!" but that's not what this is. It wasn't fun, it wasn't romantic, it wasn't good really at achieving anything. To be honest, I skimmed the last half because there wasn't a lot encouraging me to pay too close attention.
Weddings always have a bit of a drama and this wedding doesn't disappoint.
Lola is a feisty character and I really liked her. Poppy is a bit more shy and liked her too. I related to them both because I feel like I am a bit of both of them, I can be fiesty but also quite and I adore photography.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it was really interesting with some great comedy moments and I really enjoyed the celev lifestyle. How the other half live.
I went into this expecting a rom com but I didn't really get either, which was a let down.
I really struggled to connect with or truly care about any of the characters in this, which definitely had me leaving longer and longer between each time that I picked it up as a result.
It was also pretty predictable.
Maybe others will enjoy this more but it just didn't do it for me or compare to any of the great rom coms that I've read recently.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Funny, at times a bit unbelievable, but also bizarre and hilarious book about Poppy who helps her friend Lola as a photographer at a wedding where Lola is the wedding planner. The 'party' is spread over a week and a lot happens in that week. In between there are some short flashbacks where you find out how Poppy, Lola and the groom-to-be know each other. These flashbacks have various dates and because of this you know that the three have known each other for many years.
The chapters each take place on a certain number of days before the wedding and are also referred to as such, on those days before the wedding a lot happens, we also get to know the very special family of the groom, which sometimes leads to bizarre situations. Every now and then I got a little tired of the bizarre and a bit unbelievable situations. The title already gives it away, the wedding crashes.

Thank you NetGalley, Abigail Mann and One More Chapter for the ARC of The Wedding Crasher. This is my personal review.
The book was described as a rom-com and I am a fan of these kinds of books. This one for me missed the mark on both the romance and the comedy.
Poppy is the main character in the story – I wanted to like her and care about what was happening with her, but the story did not make care what happened to her or anyone else in the book. It is rare for me to read a book and find it does not hold my attention. Lola and Will did not do much for me either. I wanted to be surprised at what was happening but it held nothing new in a story for me.
I didn't love the way this book played out. It's a weird mix of rom-com and serious subject matter, and it didn't mesh well for me. I didn't connect well with the characters and I didn't love their behavior at times. Overall, this one didn't work for me, but I have enjoyed previous works from Mann, so I'll be picking up the next one!
This was a pure delight to read. I was totally entertained and enthralled by this book. I’ve preordered a copy for a friend.
Synopsis:
Poppy is packing up for the summer now that school is out. That means one thing, heading to the sea to do some wildlife photography while also getting away from her ex husband who she still lives with. But before she manages to get herself on the ferry, her longtime best friend Lola calls in a favour as the photographer for a wedding she is planning has bailed. But upon discovering who the who the groom is, Poppy realises that her drama free trip will be nothing of the sort.
Opinion:
I loveddddd this! Honestly I’m so glad I have discovered Abigail’s work as I always leave feeling all giddy after finishing her books. The plot was a tad predictable but it did leave me laughing at parts nonetheless and it was like any good rom com should be. I loved the flashbacks into Poppy’s life as it allowed her to become more three dimensional and helped me create a connection with her to the point that you are proud of her growth throughout the book. I also appreciate the complex topics that were covered such as controlling relationships and family dynamics.
Thank you HarperCollins and NetGalley for the ARC, this review is my personal, unbiased opinion.
Searching for some light reading, The Wedding Crasher described as a rom-com seemed a good choice. The plot idea was promising but somehow I couldn’t engage with any of the characters. Poppy's broken marriage and having to deal with demanding and entitled wedding guests didn't equate as a basis for romance.
The groom, Poppy's old friend from uni, comes across as a bit of an airhead, can a man be called an airhead, the bride is nowhere to be seen and the groom’s father is treating the week of wedding parties as an opportunity to conduct business meetings after inviting numerous contacts.
There was no comedy either, not even a hoped for chuckle. Maybe the book improved and became romantic and humorous, I hope so. Feeling disappointed, I deleted at 25%.
Didn't float my boat at all.
Such a fun read. I enjoy a great runaway wedding story and this was the best. Perfect summer read and my patrons will love it!
Yet ANOTHER hilarious and touching book from Abigail Mann, with a cast of great and terrible characters and a setting full of Succession-esque glamour and drama.
This book made me laugh out loud in places, but it also had a serious thread, with Josh and Poppy’s relationship.
Mainly it’s a feel good, romantic, ridiculous (in a good way) story, with the kind of friendships we all like to have, with a wedding on a private island as it’s main theme.
Lola is the wedding planner coping with the very wealthy and obnoxious father of the groom - who also happens to own the island, and she has her hands full with a bride who needs her hand holding, caterers bringing food to the island, the society photographer who has norovirus and may or may not make it for the actual wedding day and too many other things to mention.
Will is the groom and Poppy is Lola’s friend, as is Will, from university days. Poppy is there to photograph puffins for her own assignment but gets roped in to do the pre wedding photographs in the days leading up to the actual event.
It all gets very messy and is very, very funny.
The Wedding Crasher did make me laugh but was very predictable & really telegraphed what was going to happen from the start & throughout. I liked the writing style & thought it was easy to imagine the beautiful setting of the island wedding.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for the advance read of this title. This is the first book I've read from this author. I went into this title thinking it would be a rom com but I found this quite different. I didn't feel I connected with any of the characters and the ending was quite predictable. I was a bit disappointed with this book as I was looking forward to it. ⭐⭐⭐
I went in expecting a full-fledged romcom, but I wouldn’t classify this book as exactly that. It’s more like contemporary fiction with a dash of romance. That being said, the boom was enjoyable.
There were shenanigans a plenty and some very funny moments to be had. That being said, I didn’t feel particularly drawn to Poppy and felt like there was a little something lacking in terms of character development. Or rather that when the development did happen, it came out of nowhere.
The rest of the characters were funny and Will’s family was, almost always, infuriating to read. Not that this is a bad thing, that’s definitely what they’re there for. That being said, I could not stand Ottilie and it was a drag whenever I had to read about her.
As for the romance aspect of the book, like an said it was a dash, I wouldn’t have minded some more of it actually happening on the page. The chemistry was definitely there, but I wanted to see more of it, if that makes sense.
Overall, it was an enjoyable book but I’m not rushing to recommend it to all my friends or screaming from the rooftops about it. It was okay and that’s okay.
Cute, but extremely predictable from the start. No big surprises or reveals - everything that happened was quite obvious. I was hoping for something major from some of the other characters (especially the aunt!), but nothing ever came of it.
