I think this book was marketed as a rom-com however throughout the whole book I struggled to find anything remotely funny or remotely romantic about this book ... and it's about a wedding, though to be truthful there's more to the wedding than meets the eye. It's told from the perspective of Poppy, a teacher unhappy in her marriage (separated) and unhappy in her career. She's given everything up for marriage and it's ending badly. So when her friend Lola (props to Lola for being a consistent and supportive friend though all the way along) need a last minute replacement for a wedding photographer on a remote island, Poppy is her girl. What Lola fails to mention is Poppy will be photographing her ex-boyfriend's nuptials, and they're staying for a few days prior. Things are unlikely to go well, hey?

I don't mind multiple timelines as a rule when they are done well. In this instance, it was too backwards and forwards and the chapters were quite lengthy, making the book seem as it was neither anchored in the past or the present narratives. It was the same with the romance and the comedy - like a decision couldn't be made as to which storyline to focus on the most, so it was like a hedging of bets. In all, it seemed as if the book was far too lengthy as a result (I read the e-book but it's approx 400 pages).

Unfortunately I skimmed quite a lot of the backstory - I got will was the ex and their relationship was unresolved, and Josh was a d*** and Poppy had given things up for him. It seemed all I needed to know, and I wasn't invested to know anything more about them unfortunately.

I'm disappointed I didn't like this one more.

The Wedding Crasher is a sweet, predictable rom-com with a few laugh-out-loud moments in a lifestyles of the rich and famous kind of way. I did get a bit annoyed with the main characters in their completely passive attitudes towards the problems in their lives, but their lack of action was evened out by the ridiculousness (in a good way!) of the plot.

This was a cute and easy read. I enjoyed the story overall and thought our main character was a great leading lady. However, I do think it became tedious with all the challenges and obstacles for one person to experience.

This was marketed as a rom-com, but I'm not sure it fit that description? It was more womens fiction? Not sure, but overall a cute and easy read!

Poppy's marriage is on the rocks so she decides to take time out going back to her original passion, photography, in particular taking photos of Puffins on a remote Devon island. On her way though she is hijacked by her BFF Lola to take photos at a high profile wedding party nearby after the official photographer is taken sick.
I do often find that a book billed as a romcom doesn't actually come across as one to me. This isn't necessarily an issue, but might put others off who are expecting something more light hearted. In this case there are touches of humour, but overwhelming theme is of a highly disfunctional but powerful family at odds with each other. With the use of flashbacks you follow Poppy as she starts redeveloping her backbone and standing up for herself, and her friend Lola seeing her future as a high end wedding planner going down the pan. It is slow paced and I found myself dipping in and out of it but I did keep on reading as I just needed to know how this would eventually work out. To be read when you want to read such a book, rather than a fast paced laugh a minute one, so definitely worth a read.

Poppy married young and several years later realised she had lost herself to her relationship. She breaks things off and sets off to take photos of puffins in some remote place, part of her plan to reignite her photography career that was dropped when she got married. By amazing coincidence, this remote place is also the scene of a major wedding event being planned by best friend, Lola. And the groom is almost an old flame from their days at university. When the wedding photographer is delayed from the weeklong event, Poppy is recruited to fill in and things don't exactly go smoothly from there.

First of all, this book seems to be billed as a rom-com of sorts. But I didn't find it all that witty. Yes, there are scenes that I did find amusing but for the most part, it's a story of a woman taking back her life and the chaotic way it happens. Rather than funny, it's more of one thing after another making Poppy's plans go totally awry. In some ways, this aspect of the book becomes rather tedious and there just doesn't seem to be much let-up in the proceedings for our main character. I also didn't find it terribly romantic. Perhaps it might have been better to aim at a different category since there are some serious issues addressed within.

The other thing that was troubling to me was that Poppy seems to be much older than the supposed late 20s that she is in the book. Maybe she had aged a lot through her unhappy marriage? Anyway, it was rather odd and I kept having to remind myself she was actually a much younger woman.

I didn't dislike this book but I didn't love it either so I'm going to rate it 3 stars.

The story tells the tale of a girl called poppy who leaves her husband Josh and goes off in search of photographing puffin birds, but not everything works out the way it should. And poppy gets caught up in her friends wedding planner plans and she's the photographer.
I loved the families involved and there quirky ways.
It was a quick enjoyable read for me. I would definitely recommend this one to my friends and ill look for more books by Abigail as I really liked her style of writing.

Poppy is having a tough time. She has separated from her husband after coming to the realisation that her life is not what she wanted anymore. She change her life for him and she was starting the have some rejects. Poppy has changed massively over the course of her marriage and has lost some of herself.

It's her summer holiday and she goes back to the place she first met her ex husband and bumps into her friend who needs a favour. She needs a photographer for a wedding she has been planing.

There are a few twists and turns in the story and it is generally a page turner which made me read it really quickly.

With the impending dissolution of her marriage, Poppy takes herself off to photograph puffins, and hopefully enter some of her pictures to the National Geographic magazine.

However, that gets pushed to one side as she steps in to help out her wedding planner friend,  Lola, and fill in for the actual wedding photographer who has been delayed due to illness.

Only once Poppy arrives at the island where the top secret wedding is to be held that she realises it is for her university roommate, with whom she lost touch with several years ago. Will is not just Will, he is destined to take over the family business, and comes from a very wealthy family.

The father of the groom, Will, cones across as a very entitled person and is determined to make the impending wedding all about business, and has very set ideas of what is proper and what is not.

Then there is Otillie, the bride to be, who seems very ethereal, spending her time prior to the wedding meditating and cleansing her chakras in a fisherman's hut on the beach.

As the story proceeds, we learn that it was not just a friendship that Poppy & Will shared, it could have been so much more, but the timing was always wrong.  Will was less than happy when Poppy married her husband Josh.

Then there is Lawrence, Wills black sheep of a brother,  who has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

Things come to a head when a photograph Poppy took shows more in the background  than she ever expected it to. Needless to say, the wedding is off, and Poppy, Will & Lola escape the island. 

This was a delightful book to read with believable characters and a fast enough story line that you are never left bored. Thoroughly recommend this book.

I was really excited to read this book after hearing lots about it but unfortunately, it wasn't as good as I'd hoped.

It started strongly - the prologue was great and I was immediately intrigued to find out more but, after that, I felt that the characters were fairly stereotypical and lacking any depth. Poppy's constant need to please others/ how much of a pushover she is became slightly irritating.

As an easy, light-hearted read, this book wasn't bad but it was definitely lacking in some extra depth.

My favourite Abigail Mann book so far. A rom-com which is genuinely funny, and doesn't shy away from some more difficult topics

I loved it! So cute filled with giggling moments. Definitely worth the read. It's a little long winded a lot of unnecessary descriptions. The characters are amazing and unique. Everyone deserves a Lola in their life!

I love a great book of wedding fiction, I love a good rom-com, and I even love a pretty farcical meet/cute. That being said, The Wedding Crasher, by Abigail Mann, supplied all of these things, but just didn't grab my attention enough to be one of my favorites in the genre. The main characters, Poppy, Lola and Will, were likable enough, but not fictionalized friend material for my taste. The book is fun, and hopefully many readers will enjoy it's light-heartedness, but this reader was only partially wowed. The Wedding Crasher follows Poppy, a woman who still lives with her emotionally abusive husband even though they aren’t together and are headed toward divorce. During school holiday, Poppy decides to get away and work on her photography. However, right at the start of her trip, her best friend and wedding planner Lola begs her to help with a top-secret wedding. Surprisingly, Poppy knows the groom from college, and they reconnect amid the chaos of a wedding that seems destined to fail.

I have mixed feelings about this book primarily because I thought it was a rom-com, and it didn’t feel like one. It was an entertaining read, but it wasn’t a typical romance. Instead, it was a book about breaking up and finding oneself. The story highlights the pain of facing the end of a relationship, the reflections on a failed marriage, the trials and tribulations of friendship, and the complexities people face when trying to start over.

Poppy is a well-developed protagonist who goes through so much over the course of the story. A passive wife who puts up with a lot, Poppy begins to take charge of her life, and I like that she slowly starts to see her worth. She goes from being a pushover with her family and friends to standing up for herself and what she wants in life. I like her progression and her commitment to helping herself. Will is also well-developed and interesting. The son of a wealthy and arrogant businessman, Will never lives up to his father’s expectations, and he struggles to admit his feelings and stand up to the people in his life for most of the book. Other characters, though interesting, are not as fleshed out as Poppy and Will.

The flashbacks give the reader glimpses into Poppy’s relationships with her soon-to-be ex-husband and Will. It’s interesting to see how these relationships began and grew when they were younger. It’s also interesting to see how some characters grew and changed, and some remained the same. Poppy’s husband Josh, for example, showed signs of toxicity from the start, and his narcissism was pretty evident from the start. He was so manipulative and threatened by Poppy’s success even when they were younger. The flashbacks to Poppy’s friendship with Will show a major contrast between him and Josh, especially in how they treat Poppy.

I think I would have enjoyed the book more if I hadn’t gone into it thinking it was a rom-com. It’s really a story about a woman coming to terms with her divorce and figuring out who she is without her husband and her marriage to define her. I think the book will appeal to readers who like women’s fiction, and I’m thankful to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

I was first drawn in by the title and cover for this book (I love minimalist covers), but unfortunately I couldn't connect with the characters in the story. I went in thinking it would be a rom-com, but in my opinion it wasn't. I think I would have liked it more had I not been looking for that 'spark' and romance, as the author writes a good story.

I gave it a 3, but it was more likely a 2.5.

This is my second book by Abigail Mann and I enjoyed this book as much as her first one, I just wished it moved a little faster (for my personal taste) I found I would be REALLY into it, then it would drag a little.

After really enjoying The Sister Surprise last year, I was excited to see that Abigail Mann has a new novel out. And I enjoyed this one every bit as much!

In The Wedding Crasher, we meet Poppy – a young women going through a less-than-amicable parting with her husband, Josh, and in need of finding out who she really is without him. It is the summer holidays at the school where they both work – so, what better time to get away and work on her passion for wildlife photography in one of her favourite, remote locations?

The Wedding Crasher by Abigail Mann is an adorable rom-com, perfect for fans of Sophie Kinsella or Anna Bell. The story revolves around Poppy, who has been living with Josh for 8 years. Over the years, their love faded away, and they've been cohabitating more than anything. One day, Poppy's friend Lola hires her to be a photographer at a high=profile wedding. Surprisingly, Poppy recognizes the groom as an old friend. Will sparks fly in the most inappropriate of places?

Here is an exciting excerpt from the Prologue, which is a flash-forward to the climax of the book:

"‘If you see her, don’t let her get in!’ shouted Poppy, her foot sinking through a floorboard that lined the base of the dinghy.
‘How am I supposed to do that?’ said her friend, Lola. ‘Whack her with an oar?’ She tucked her five-inch heels under her armpit and unwound the landing rope like a lasso, glancing up the zig-zag path that led to the hotel. The wedding party could be heard, if not seen.

Overall, The Wedding Crasher is an absolutely adorable book with plenty of romance and humor. One highlight of this book is the hilarious premise. The prologue starts off near the end with everything in chaos, and then the book goes back to the beginning to show us how the plans started unraveling. Another highlight is the main character, Poppy. I found Poppy to be very relatable in how she made the most of her situations, even though she was very unhappy at the beginning of the book. I really rooted for her to reach her happy ending, even though it seemed impossible at first.
