I struggled to get into The New Year’s Eve Party by Hannah Emery. I felt it was really slow to start, felt predictable and although I tried I struggled with it. Gave up in the end, sorry not for me.

The New Years Eve Party was a book I read in a day as it was so twisty.
Frankie is married to Red and have three children, they live across a lake from their best friends Verity and Max, they have been unable to have children and are still trying. Their lives when we meet them appear to be perfect, the women keep house and the men earn the money, their lives couldn’t be any better living in the best houses in the area, that is until Alice and her daughter Luna come into their lives.
This was a book that was well written with good characters, I had absolutely no idea where this was going and thought that everything was revealed in a well written and timely way leaving the book moving along at a great pace all the way through. Even as the New Year’s Eve party was happening I was still wondering where this was going to go.
I would like to thank Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

It all started with the party…Frankie, Verity, and Alice live in Cotswolds community of White Fir Lake. An on the surface idyllic community but they all are hiding secrets. I really enjoyed this book, fast paced and kept me guessing. A bit of the story was somewhat unrealistic but its fiction right?

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I quite enjoyed this book, but it really wasn’t memorable. Horrible people with perfect lives – in the Cotswolds (where else?) What better time for the lies and secrets to be revealed.

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for providing an ARC via my Kindle in return for an honest review.

Frankie and Red, Verity and Max.....close friends? Envious of each other? You knew from the start that this story wasnt going to have a happy ending, and as soon as Alice comes on the scene, things change for the worse. I was suspicious of her from the start. It's a story of competition, of envy, of need, and of greed, and Alice is to a certain extent at the centre of the whirlwind.
It's a very well written book, moving from present to past easily, with well drawn descriptions of these slightly worrying people. It would make a good TV series!
Thank you for the chance to review this story.

The new years eve party is centred around the lives of Frankie, Verity and Alice all three women lives are soon to be intertwined question is why?
Trigger warning the book contains a lot of talk about infertility and miscarriage.

This is a slow burner if you enjoy a fast paced book beginning to end this isn't that. however half way through i was committed and wanted to know what the big secret was our leading ladies all have stuff going on in their lives we have the perfect couple to all around them the rich artist and his beautiful wife Verity and Max. i must say Verity was probably my favourite out of the three. she has everything anyone can ask for that is anything most think they want but all she wants is a baby. This of course adds strain to her marriage but an outsider looking in wouldn't see that. She is best friends with Frankie who is married to Red they have three children and have finally saved enough money to buy their dream home in the affluent neighbourhood Alice and Max live. Even better they can see each others houses from their gardens , every best friends dream (or maybe just me). Finally we have Alice recently moved to the city with her daughter Massie a very troubled teen who loves art. so when she crashes into Frankie's wall, it feels like fate as Verity runs the local art gallery. a friendship is formed. So whose blackmailing the ladies and why?

Honestly i really enjoyed this book, i loved all the characters our female leads even Massie was a great addition to the women. I think that's what makes this book so good, each woman has real life problems its not far fetched and i can always get behind a book like this. the blackmail element of the bookm had ,me second guessing everything i thought i knew i must admit i didn't guess the twist at all and boy its one hell of a twist and not the only one!! The author writes so we go between the ladeies and we also have flashbacks throughout which i really enjoyed as it is very clear when we are in the past and present day it's seamless. The author also uses great descriptive language which really helped me picture each of the women's surroundings.
Let's not rule the men out though Red and Max have their parts to play and i must say once again i was left open mouthed. i wasn't keen on either man particularly but their presence adds a lot to each woman's story.

All and all the new years eve party was a great read, a little slow to start but once it got into the swing of things and i got more invested in the blackmail i was hooked. It appears obvious but remember looks can be deceiving. rate 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

Thank you to netgalley, the publishers and author for an advance reviewers copy of the new years eve party in exchange for my fair and honest opinion.

I seem to be going against the grain here, but I did not really engage with this book. I felt that the characters were shallow and seemed to spend most of their time drifting about in a champagne-induced haze., complete with lots of cashmere.
I have finished it, but did not enjoy it, sorry.

The New Year’s Eve Party by Hannah Emery is a view of two couple lives, who seem to have it all. Do they really or is it all a facade? The characters are pretty awful people and only seem palatable towards the end. It was an interesting storyline that looked at how people live their lives, as if it is all a party. It is the secrets and lies that end up imploding on New Year’s Eve.

This was quite the ride! It took me a second to get in the groove with the multiple perspectives and timelines, but once I did, it was a cool way to read this book. I loved getting the real time as well as the flashbacks from the characters about the same moments. It only took me two days to read, would definitely recommend!

It started with the party…Frankie, Verity, and Alice live in the idyllic Cotswolds community of White Fir Lake, but behind closed doors, everyone has a secret they’re desperately trying to keep…

Brilliant, absolutely loved it. Frankie and Verity have been friends since primary school and these kind of friendships that span the years are often complicated as is reflected here., fraught with love, jealousy, resentments, secrets and lies. All the components of what gives me such an enjoyable read.

Even though the plot may not be new I found myself totally immersed in this book. It moves at a fast pace and has enough going on to keep my attention throughout. At times you just had to go with the story and not think to deeply as to how realistic this scenario was but isn't that the thing about reading a good book, the escapism that goes with it and takes you away to a fictional place that allows the mind to wonder away from every day life.

I would recommend this book to those that like a quick fast read where you just have to know what is going to happen next. I have not read this author before but will definitely be looking out for more books from her.

Love books that slip backwards and forwards as I think it gives you some depth about the story. Really thought this book was a great domestic style book. Just great.

This was the first book I have read by Hannah Emery, and I really enjoyed it! I just read it over New Year's Eve which felt timely. The story is told from the perspective of three women, two best friends and one outsider. It switches between the past and present and leaves you guessing. There is drama and suspense throughout. The story builds as New Year's Eve and the annual party approaches. I had a hard time putting the book down as I wanted to know what would happen next. I will be checking out more of the author's books. Thank you to NetGalley and One More Chapter for the ARC!

As with most reviews I write, I will not give you the plot as I believe the blurb writers do this so much better without giving anything away. What follows is just my opinion and others will no doubt feel very differently depending upon their personal taste in reading matter.
This was one of those books which I did not especially enjoy but having started I really wanted to know what happens to the collection of 'friends' who live in a small English town. I have to admit that I didn't warm to any of them and feel sad that there are probably people like this collection living in such selfish lives in reality. The book turns out to be more of a 'mystery' as the few weeks it is set over moves forward. For this I was grateful and is what kept me going to the end. Overall not a happy book but one which made me sad for British humanity!

A different seasonal read.

Despite the title of the book it's obviously only one night, so the main story begins early in the month but also stretches back to events many years ago too.

Three characters Frankie, Verity and Alice take turns telling us the tale. I did not like the exact same dialogue being repeated as the story was told from the different point of view. I also got a little confused with the same scene being repeated when the action had moved on and I had too. I was soon back on track though.

There's not much to like about any of the three women. One leads a privileged life, another aspires to the same life. She is holding on to the coat tails of her friend, having just made the move to an idyllic village across the lake from her. The third is not even on the starting blocks but she wants their lives more and more, in fact she thinks she's entitled to that kind of life.

To begin with the story reads like one of the reality TV shows with housewives. Then notes begin to arrive hinting that someone knows something that happened in the past and it's time to face the truth.

An intriguing read. There were a few ways it could go and my mind changed throughout as to which way that would be. Not an edge of your seat read but a nice change from Christmas novels.

Reading this in those random days between Christmas and New year certainly added to the festive element of the story.

Frankie and Verity have been friends since school, with Frankie sacrificing the love she felt for Max when she and Verity were teenagers, letting Verity have him.

That's where the problems begin.

Now as adults Verity is broken inside after her many failed pregnancies but puts a face on to the outside world.

Frankie is, desperately trying to keep with Verity and Max's wealth which causes problems with her own husband Red, who also suspects that Frankie never stopped loving Max...

Then Alice literally crashes into their world with her own agenda...

Not a bad little festive read.
