Thank you to One More Chapter, Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for a digital copy in return for an honest review.
I don't think there are enough books about older characters dating, especially online dating so I'm glad this book exists! I'm not a huge Beatles fan so whilst I appreciated the book I wasn't fully drawn in to all the references. It was a quick and easy read!
A fun sweet read! Highly recommend.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my ARC.
This book was just ok for me. I found the whole Beatles aspect to the story a little immature. Beverly is a middle aged woman and all she talks about is the Beatles, that's weird for me. Also, I think the author was going for funny with the online disaster dates but I found them depressing.
Thank you to Netgalley & Suzan Holder for my copy of Shake It Up, Beverley for an honest review. It was a pleasure to read this one. I wouldn’t think you could write a story about a middle aged, widower , who loves the Beatles.. But Suzan Holder did an great job. Beverley Wilson, feels it is time to date again. But she is so anxious of making an online profile. She speaks with her best friend and creates a profile. Beverley goes in some interesting dates but thinks she finds the right guy. Beverley was such an honest woman. The ups the downs and the insecurities, we all have. Yet she doesn’t give up, even when one guy, takes advantage of her. This was such a fun read. It made me laugh and it made me root for Beverley. The added bonus was all the Beatles references.. it really added something to the story. This was a four star read for me.. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I had no idea that this was a debut book. It was well written and engaging overall.
I can only imagine how scare it is to be in your 50’s and try to make a new entrance on the dating scene especially in our times. Beverly was pictured as a strong yet vulnerable woman that wants to shake things up in her life. The parts about her and her friends were heartwarming. What I found to over the top and made me loose interest though was all the many references to Beatles . It kinda felt more like a fanatic about them and not about starting over and enjoying life.
I love this different perspective on a rom-com! Much more nuances to worry about, being a 50-year old widowed mom. Lighthearted and heartwarming. I loved the storyline, the character development! Very well-written and looking forward to reading more from this author.
Not my kind of reading material. Overall it was nice story, quick read but not amazing.
Maybe if you are Beatles fan and you like stories of women +50 years finding another love...
It was just not my style.
Shake It Up, Beverley by Suzan Holder is a most impressive debut, and I cannot wait to see what comes next from this talented author. I found myself empathizing with titular protagonist Beverley almost immediately, and remained fully engaged throughout her charming, conversational narrative. As an added bonus, it is chock full of interesting and little known facts about the Beatles, including some elusive and key locations in and around Liverpool that will be gold for anyone who is planning their own pilgrimage to the birthplace of the Fab Four.
This is a wonderful, heartwarming story that is an absolute must read for any Beatles fan.
A witty and fun read.
Many thanks to Harper Collins UK and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This story has a good premise with Beverley finding herself after being alone for so long and getting back out into the dating world. The overt references to the Beatles was too much. It makes the story less about Beverly and more about the Beetles. Towards the end of the book it just became too much. The story could focus more on Beverly but it seemed it was too much about the obsession with the Beetles. It's a cute read.
A cute sassy story about stepping outside of your comfort box to find love and yourself, but things don’t always go as we plan them to. Great book to grab for a fun and entertaining read.
A lighthearted and fun read. Sure Beatles Bev wasn’t the brightest bulb in the shed, but she means well and is a fun narrator. This did have an obvious plot but also some fun laugh out loud moments. It was nice reading about the Liverpool and Beatles history as well.
Recommended for a fun and relaxing read.
This was a cute starting over book. I loved Beverly although some of her choices made me cringe a little for her. There are a lot of Beatles references in this book though, so if you are not a fan, this might get on your nerves. I love the Beatles though so it didn’t bother me.
All you need is love….. Beverly Wilson is a widow, a mother of three and in her 50ties.
She decides to go back into the dating game but time isn't her friend. The author’s style places the reader in the book in each scene for an entertaining journey. Awe-inspiring . . . The characters are so well drawn and the plot so well paced, I couldn’t put it down.
This was a really enjoyable and wonderful debut from author Suzan Holder. I really liked this book, I’m a huge Beatles fan myself and so I enjoyed those aspects of this as well. This one had a great mix of humor and romance. I am excited to see what Suzan Holder writes next!
Amusing story of middle-aged widow Beatles Bev - a die hard Beatles fan - who wants to give love a second chance, now that the kids have flown the nest. Her attempts at internet dating were amusing.
What bogged down the story was all the background information about Liverpool and the Beatles, as well as the song lyrics that were inserted into dialogues and inner monologues.
This is a charming book about a woman named Berverley from Liverpool, with grown kids, who loves The Beatles. Her nickname is Beatles Bev.
She really loves them, she actually bought Paul McCartney’s childhood home. The house is covered in Beatles memorabilia, from tea towels to throw pillows. She has a large collection of memorabilia in the attic that includes Ringo’s leather jacket, full sized cardboard cutouts, and a Yellow Submarine costume.
Beverley has decided, with a push from her friends, to get out and date again. She goes online and every date thinks she’s strange when she talks about The Beatles. Finally, she meets Scott and he’s as into the band as she is. Is it too good to be true?
I really liked this book, I’m a huge Beatles fan myself without a stack of memorabilia. It’s a fun read, 4 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Beverley is a widower who loves the Beatles. After 10 years on her own she decides it’s time to try online dating. After a few disappointing dates she meets Scott who also loves the Beatles and the pair hit it off.
But is Scott the real deal or just a con man who is after Beverley’s Beatles paraphernalia.
This was a quick fun read with many laugh out loud moments. Beverley was a great character that just seemed to lurch from one disaster after another.
The only downside was that every thing was about the Beatles and it got a bit tiresome.
This was a fun and easy read, especially if you are a fan of the Beatles. I am not personally a huge fan, I found the many facts and references interesting at times, but they didn't hold my attention.
I enjoyed reading about Bev's foray into Online dating as a Woman in her 50s. It is nice to have an older protagonist sometimes.
This was an enjoyable read. Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.
If you love the Beatles, you'll love this book! Beverly is an uplifting character and you'll be rooting for her all the way. With loss and tragedy in her past can she shake things up and make a better, brighter future for herself. Nice to read, uplifting. And its nice she's a woman in her 50's with big dreams and aspirations. It's never too late to make the most of life, no matter what age you are!
