I really enjoyed this book. It had lots of funny moments but there was also sadness and a friend who sticks with Beverley through everything good and bad. It was very cleverly written when referencing the Beatles, the places. The songs and the history, its all in this fun book. Knowing Liverpool and its people first hand I could almost hear the accent and appreciate the humour. Well done Susan Holder you are a great story teller,

Thank you NetGalley, Suzan Holder and One More Chapter for the ARC of Shake it Up, Beverley. This is my personal review.
I went into this book looking for the laugh out loud part and all I got a few times was me was a little chuckle. I did not really care what happened to Beverly as she traveled the path to finding romance.

This is a delightful book about a huge Beatles fan and her first step back into dating after being a widow for several years. There are tons of references to The Beatles which were fun to learn about and lots of Information on Liverpool.

There is humour in the book along with heartbreak and friendship. When I was finished reading this book I had a smile on my face and contentment in my heart. Beverly, the main character is easy to like and most woman of her age could associate with the things she faces in her life.

Such a warm and fun book to read. Many thanks to One More Chapter, Harper Collins and Net Galley for the invitation to read this thoroughly wonderful book.

Shake It Up, Beverly is exactly the comedy I needed for these long, dark winter days. I love a romcom that's not focused on a 20s or 30s MC, and this one delivered. Life doesn't stop at 40 and neither did Beverly! Thanks to her friends and family, Beverly decides to get back out there and make things happen for her instead of sitting in her Beatles obsessed home. I adored the character of Beverly and can't wait to read more from Holder in the future!

4/5 Stars

Thank you to NetGalley and Suzan Holder for providing me with an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The story line reminds me a little of the movie, "Happy-go-lucky," where we have a glimce in the life of a middle age woman who is trying to find love. At first she goes through all type of strange men and finally meets some one to good to be true, and he ends up being a con man who takes all of Beverly's Beatle collections and sells it. But from all the woe some good comes about, she encounters one of the Beatles and finds someone who truly likes her.
I found the connection she has with the Beatles kind of neat and fun, and she is lucky that the main people in her life are loving and caring and look out for her. I found that Beverly discovery about her parentage a little exciting and I was hoping that one of the Beatles were her father, but that didn't happen but there is a surprise from one of Beatles from the past.
I also like the way she dealth with the con man, she wants everyone to know who he was, so she does a little crazy thing that gets her the attention she doesn't want. I really wanted the story to have the con man be caught but that didn't happen.

I want to thank HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, One More Chapter and NetGalley for this Quirky and fun loving story.

Shake It Up, Beverley by Suzan Holder has a very large Beatles-theme throughout. This is a quick and cute read. The love interest was something anyone could see coming except for the main character. It took a little too long to get to the point with this relationship, but loved when it happened.

Shake It Up, Beverley by Suzan Holder is a most impressive debut, and I cannot wait to see what comes next from this talented author. I found myself empathizing with titular protagonist Beverley almost immediately, and remained fully engaged throughout her charming, conversational narrative. As an added bonus, it is chock full of interesting and little known facts about the Beatles, including some elusive and key locations in and around Liverpool that will be gold for anyone who is planning their own pilgrimage to the birthplace of the Fab Four.

This is a wonderful, heartwarming story that is an absolute must read for any Beatles fan. 4.5 stars

Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for an ARC.

Shake it Up, Beverley was very, maybe too much so, overwhelmingly Beatles themed. I love a good theme, but when you're smacked over the head with it for the duration of the book? It can grow tiresome.

This was a sweet story, the main story line was one that the reader could spot right away, so if you are here for a big reveal or mystery this isn't the right fit for you. However, going into a genre like this, I don't mind that at all. I enjoyed reading Beverley's dating woe's and ultimately the ending. This was a quick read and I'm grateful to NetGalley and the publisher for my opportunity to read this early.

Enjoyed reading this book, was easy to read in one sitting! It was a little heavy in places but overall a light read.

Very overwhelmingly Beatles-themed, but a quick and somewhat cute read. I saw what was happening with a love interest of the main character right away, so it wasn't a big surprise to me as a reader, more of a disappointment that it took so long for the main character to figure it out!

This is overwhelmingly a Beatles themed romcom, the author offering her readers A Ticket to Ride as she takes you on a Magical Mystery Tour around Liverpool’s famous attractions via the home of Beverley Wilson, widow, single mother of three and part time estate agent. Thanks to her much older sister Deb, Bev is Beatles obsessed, so much so she’s living in Paul McCartney’s former childhood home, memorabilia of the Fab Four scattered everywhere. The only thing missing from lonely heart Bev’s life is passion and romance. Ideally she’s looking for her own real life version of the pop icon and if that special someone happens to be a Beatles fan too then so much the better! All it takes is a rather weird house inspection and a chance meeting with a delicious detective to convince Beverley she needs to shake up her life. With a little help from her friends (or to be more accurate best friend Jools) Beverley throws herself back in the dating game, the results of which are amusing, embarrassing and most definitely surprising. What’s she got to lose, other than losing her heart to the man of her dreams?….

As someone who has never been a Beatles fan the only things I had in common with Bev are that we’re both ladies of a mature age and have been single for a long time. However the fact she’s willing to step outside her comfort zone into the world of internet dating deserves a round of applause. Good on you Bev! Choosing to become bold and brave instead of beige and boring may feel foolish and risky but for those of us observing from the sidelines it’s a move worth making, even if we can see the pitfalls well before Bev does! I liked that our leading lady is not the usual mid twenties damsel in distress searching for love, giving hope and encouragement to all us oldies who think it’s probably too late for romance, although after reading this novel I’m not convinced signing up to a dating agency is the way to go! Overall I thought Bev was portrayed well. The author has recognised the lack of confidence and belief in one’s desirability and the vulnerability that can arise from having a few more wrinkles and being new to the dating scene presenting the reader with a character who in that sense is entirely relatable, even if you don’t share in her obsession! She wears her heart on her sleeve and is one of those down to earth characters who tries to see the positive in every situation so you can’t help liking her, urging her to overcome her self doubt and anxieties in a bid to find her happy ever after. Mixed up with all the silliness and Bev’s more bizarre encounters with the opposite sex is a warning about the perils of meeting a potential love match online. Just how many frogs, fruitcakes and fly by nights do you have to suffer before you find your handsome prince? Well Bev can certainly answer that question as she rides the dating game rollercoaster, an experience that is life changing and full of surprises both good and bad. The author has an easy to read writing style delivering scenes that will make you squirm and cringe with embarrassment, boo and hiss at the villain of the piece and possibly even swoon in one or two places! Ultimately you’ll be cheering Bev on towards the finishing line but who will be there wanting to hold her hand??

Now I’m all for some lighthearted frivolity and normally quite happy to read “fluffy” fiction in which the trajectory of the storyline is extremely straightforward and obvious. However on this occasion I found Beverley’s efforts to shake her life up a bit too ridiculous. In places it is funny, the bonkers kind of funny but did it make me laugh out loud? Generally no, although there is one particular scene involving some crazy and foolhardy antics on Bev’s behalf that did prompt a belly laugh or two, proving girl power is well and truly alive. You really need to take everything with a massive pinch of salt and it probably helps if you happen to be a fan of the Fab Four to appreciate all the musical references that constantly crop up in the narrative. Clearly I don’t fall into that category. My only very tenuous link to Beverley’s favourite Beatle is the fact a long long time ago I used the same hairdresser as Heather Mills! Unfortunately my brief sojourn into Beatle Bev’s world was only mildly entertaining and nothing more. Maybe I Should Have Known Better?!? but I’m always willing to shake up my reading preferences and discover authors I’ve not heard of before and at the very least I now know more about the history of the band than I previously did! Nothing ventured nothing gained as the saying goes but although I liked the sentiment of this novel it wasn’t really for me. I’d be of the opinion that possibly Beverley’s antics are best suited to the stage from where they originated; I have an inkling the theatre version would have left me with a more favourable overall impression.

My thanks as always to the publisher OMC and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read in exchange for an honest review.
