I have not read this from the first book but i am going to have to invest in this series.
Reminded me a lot of the Agatha Raisin series, full of humour and great characters.
Jodie is so likeable you almost feel sad when you come to the end of the book because you know it will be a while before you can read the next one, so thank god i have not started from book 1!
Although this is #5 in the Nosey Parker series, it’s the first I’ve read, though probably not the last.
The premise is that a former Met officer has returned to her native Cornwall where she has retrained a chef. Her boyfriend and daughter have entered her for a baking competition that is a mashup between the Great British Bake Off and Great British Menu. But before you know it, there is a murder der, der, der….!
This is great fun, with likeable characters, lots of humour and best of all, recipes interspersed along the way - which I am a total sucker for.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher, HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for an arc of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
I love Nosey Parker cozy mysteries as they're always well plotted and entertaining.
Jodie is a clever and relatable woman who's never reckless. I was glad to catch up with the cast of characters and thoroughly enjoyed the solid mystery that kept me guessing.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine
Enjoyable froth that sails extremely close to the 'Bake-off' wind. Nothing to tax the brain here and can while away a winter's afternoon with ease. Thanks to Netgalley.
This was such a fun read! Even at book 5, I didn't find it too difficult to follow along, although it always helps to have started from the beginning to fully establish the characters in your head. It was lighthearted, fun, well-written and, although a touch on the slow side (hence the four stars), a very enjoyable read. The characters and their relationships with each other are excellent and I really liked Jodie and Nathan's burgeoning romance.
I've got the first one in the series on my Kindle, so will be going back to start at the beginning shortly. A new-to-me series I will definitely be following.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the ARC to read and review. All opinions are strictly my own.
An enjoyable lighthearted murder mystery.
I read this book whilst sitting on a Cornish beach and although the book was good and I really enjoyed it, it was more the Great British Bake Off Murder than anything Cornish in that I felt that there was little to identify that part of the world. Despite that, it was an excellent cozy mystery and great for a holiday read.
This is the first of this series by this author that I have read. It is written in a brisk style and the main character, Jodie Parker, lives in Penstowan with her Mum and daughter. She is in a relationship with local detective Nathan. Jodie is taking part in a baking competition and it is being filmed for a TV series (yes, sound very familiar). Although it rattles along at a pace I found the similarities to TGBB a bit too much. One of the crew is murdered so Jodie is trying to help Nathan find out who did it. It is a bit far fetched in how much information Jodie is given by the police and after a while, I found myself losing interest. I know a lot of readers love this series but I'm afraid it didn't really do it for me. Thank you Netgalley for an advance copy to read and review.
I've adored the adventures of Jodie, plus her assorted friends and family members, ever since the first book and this latest instalment is no exception. Despite having given up her police job in the Met and returned to her childhood home in Cornwall, she manages to get embroiled in murder wherever she goes and this time she's taking part in a baking contest (think a regional version of GBBO) when a member of the crew is murdered. With her strong links to the local constabulary and her ability to dig around between bakes, she has all she needs to get to know the suspects.
A great mix of sleuthing, family life and humour together with a strong supporting cast of contestants and crew makes for one of her best adventures so far.
Although this is the fifth in the series of Jodie "Nosey" Parker cozy murder mysteries there is very little that would prevent it being read as a stand alone story, other than the dynamics of her love life. If you subsequently read the earlier books. you'll already know the outcome.
I do love a good whodunnit, and this certainly ticked all of the boxes for what I was looking for. It has the twists, it kept me reading and it was also a nice, light read. A good mix of funny and serious. I would definitely look into her others in this series.
⭐⭐⭐ -- Love the cover!
This was a solid cozy mystery read. I didn't love it quite as much as the previous one (A Cornish Christmas Murder). It felt a little slow in parts. However, I enjoyed the baking contest setting and I really like these characters. I am definitely still onboard for the next book!

This is one of a series of books which I hadn't realised but did not matter as the book is also a stand alone story. I found it a quite whimsical and humorous read but it lacked thrill of the usual murder mystery type books. The story is mainly set in the studios of a bake off type series and the murder seemed very much second place as the competition took the main part. I did find I skipped through pages to try to get to the investigative bits. It seemed to gather pace towards the end to bring the detection of the murderer to a conclusion. A fairly good read but not particularly dynamic
I love this cozy mystery series from Fiona Leitch that takes place in Cornwall! I started the series with the last entry then promptly caught myself up on the series! I loved seeing how Nosey and her friends and family have evolved over the books. In this recent adventure, Nosey is a contestant in a Great British Bake Off type show in Cornwall when a murder occurs on set. As always, Nathan, Josie's detective boyfriend is on the case! Overall, the mystery was great with several red herrings and I loved the setting. Leitch continues to evolve the characters' relationships and I look forward to seeing what happens next!
This story is probably best described a good old fashioned cozy mystery romp. It was a lot of fun, with some great characters.
However I personally found the narrator of the story, our main character Jodie Parker, to be a bit too judgmental for my liking which did dampen my enjoyment.
Regardless, I can totally see why a lot of other people would like this series. This was a quick, light and fun read.
This is a new series to me. I love mysteries set in Cornwall so I was excited to be given the opportunity to read this book. A Cornish Recipe for Murder is the fifth book in the Nosey Parker series. Jodie Parker is an ex-Met detective and current caterer. Jodie enters the Best of British Baking Roadshow and one of the crew members is murdered.
Jodie is technically an amateur sleuth but her 20 years on the force gives her some advantages over other amateur sleuths. I loved the descriptions of the baking competition and the mystery was pretty good. There was a bit too much toilet talk and some of the humour didn't really appeal to me, but overall I liked the character of Jodie. I would read more from this series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I didn’t realise until after I had read it, that this is the 5th book in the Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker series, and while I would have preferred to have read them all in the correct order, A Cornish Recipe for Murder works sufficiently well as a stand-alone book.
I always enjoy a cozy mystery with plenty of surprises, twists and turns and a nice satisfying conclusion, and this book has them all. I will definitely be getting hold of the four books prior to this very soon!
Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy in return for an honest review.
I've been waiting for this book for what felt like an eternity (it wasn't). I love Josie Parker and everything she gets herself into. This is the fifth book in this series, and she's still as interesting, adorable and fun as ever. So much fun. I LOVE this series. Thank goodness Fiona Leitch knows what she's doing. Her story telling skills are superb, the crime plot full of surprises, and her descriptions of cakes mouth-watering. I am so looking forward to the next book now.
Former police officer Jodie finds herself representing Cornwall in the totally undisguised fictional version of Bake Off. Juggling her detective boyfriend, teenage daughter, widowed mother and tiny dog should all be enough when trying to get to the cake show stopper. But no Jodie also let's her inquisitive nature get the better of her which comes in handy when one of the production crew gets murdered. She's ready to step in and help but should she be worrying about cake sabotage instead.
Stupidly I haven't read any other books in this series but actually that didn't stop my enjoyment of it. It's a nice cosy Cornish crime.
“A Cornish Recipe for Murder” the 5th instalment in The Nosey Parker Cozy Mystery series by Fiona Leitch. I cannot get enough of this series, if you love mysteries set in England this is for you!
When popular TV baking contest and national institution ‘The Best of British Baking Roadshow’ rolls into town and sets up camp in the grounds of Boskern House, a historic stately home near Penstowan, former police officer Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker finds herself competing to represent Cornwall in the grand final.
But with a fellow contestant who will stop at nothing to win and a drag queen host with secrets of their own, Jodie discovers that the roadshow doesn’t just have the ingredients for the perfect showstopper cake, but also for the perfect murder…
And when a body is found in the grounds of the house, Jodie is drawn into another high-stakes case along with local DCI Nathan Withers.
Can Jodie expose the culprit? Or will the murderer become the real showstopper?
The mystery was interesting, well plotted, and had just enough twists to keep you engrossed and wanting to know what happens next. I really hope there will be a book 6 coming out soon!
I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.
I requested and received an Advanced Readers Copy from Harper Collins UK. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
There are a lot of cosy crime novels out there set in twee locations often falling short of the mark. I'm happy to say A Cornish Recipe for Murder isn't one of them. Yes, it's formulaic as many of these types of mystery are but I also found it full of warmth and wit. Definitely recommend. Thanks to Fiona Leitch, the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.
I didn't realize till after finishing the book that this is actually the 5th in the series (facepalm). For being so far into the series, I was actually surprised by how much information I was still able to piece together. The author made it seem like this could be a standalone book if you want.
Jodie was a bit frustrating to read with always leaving the show during filming. Like COME ON! The donuts! LOL, but I always worry about those things.
Overall, was a very interesting read. Kept me intrigued and would definitely read more in the series.
I was invited to read a free ARC of A Cornish Recipe for Murder by One More Chapter, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. #Netgalley #OneMoreChapter #FionaLeitch #ACornishRecipeForMurder
