Although I own all of her books, this is the first Emily Henry book I've actually read. I have seen her books hyped for years on bookstagram and was excited to read the book centric romance one first, but I was very underwhelmed. Even dare I say, bored, at times.
I loved the book editor falling for the book agent angle, but the romance was too insta-lovey for my taste. Also, I found the main character's sister, Libby, to be insufferable. Both the MC and her sister were emotionally stunted, but at times, her sister behaved like a petulant teenager, and the storyline would have survived without her inclusion.
I've heard great things about Beach Read, so I will give Emily Henry one more chance.
Emily Henry continues to crush it. This is the romance novel for everyone who loves their big city, big boss dreams.
Believable characters in a believable situation. The books was funny and cute. It made me happy. This was my first Emily Henry novel and it wont be my last!
Great romance for people wanting to read an escape from the city to country life. Well-developed characters and a renovated bookstore with small town charm!
Thank you to NetGalley and to Berkley Publishing Group for an ARC of this book.
This was the first book I had read by this author and I was really excited to receive it as an ARC. She is a local author and so that made me want to read this book more.
However I actually didn't enjoy it. It was just boring to me. I DNF this one. Sorry!
First book I read by Emily Henry and I am impressed! I loved the writing and how it completely transported me to small-town Sunshine Falls. I loved the quirkiness of the characters and all the flirty banter! I’m now looking forward to reading Emily’s backlist.
The popular city-girl-finds-love-in-a-small-town trope is highlighted and deconstructed in Emily Henry’s BOOK LOVERS.
Nora Stephens is a driven, often cutthroat literary agent who takes a trip to a small town in North Carolina with her sister for the month of August. Nora is not the type who is looking to star in her own romance novel. She’s more likely to be cast as the villainous current or ex-girlfriend of the man who actually falls for the lead of a romance novel.
But Nora doesn’t fall for any of the local men. Instead, Nora keeps running into Charlie Lastra, a book editor who she has met several times before in NYC. Nora not only isn’t smitten with Charlie, she considers him her nemesis. The fact that both ended up in the same small town, states away from the city that pits them against one another allows them to see the other in a different light.
When they continue to run into one another, Nora and Charlie realize they have an undeniable attraction to one another. While Nora came for fun and adventure with her sister, Charlie grew up there and came back to support the family bookstore while his mother cares for his sick father. This may mean that their fates won’t align after all, but you’ll have to read to find out!
It was open through most of the book whether they would return to the city life they love, fall for small town life, or separate on their own journeys. I liked the relationship between Nora and Charlie, but I really loved the sister relationship between Nora and Libby.
Emily Henry takes romance tropes and honors them while also turning them inside out. It makes her stories stand out among the genre. As always with Emily Henry, this is a story that perfectly mixes romantic love, with friendship, healing, finding yourself, and emotion. Henry loves to focus on the moments and people who fundamentally change us for the better.
Funny, heartwarming, emotional, charming, and restorative! Never doubt that an Emily Henry book can deliver exactly what you didn’t know you needed.
I don’t know why I waited so long to read this book. It was on my Kindle shelf for months. I think I knew it would be amazing and I wanted to save it for a special occasion. I waited until I was on vacation, and as soon as I started it, I could not put it down. I devoured it in two days of car travel. Emily Henry is a suburb storyteller, and this book was no exception.
This was my first Emily Henry book, but definitely not the last. I thought Nora had a very interesting journey throughout this book. I will admit that I was waiting for her sister to reveal some life-altering reason behind her desire for them to go on a vacation together, so I kept keeping my fingers crossed that I was wrong. I won't say if I was or not, just that I was happy with the way things went between the two of them. It is the perfect book to pick up and read on a Sunday, with a cup of hot tea, and just relax. It's a little like a Hallmark movie, and I will definitely reread it soon.
Oh how this book made me giggle. I loved this so much and was smiling so much while reading it. I will need more time to process it fully but it was just a delightful read.
Funny, sweet, and realistic for a romance. Nice nuanced depiction of small town life, and great family relationships.
Great beach read! Fast paced, humorous, and enjoyable. Somewhat predictable, as most rom-coms are, but fun nonetheless. Would recommend to fans of Ali Hazelwood and Tessa Bailey.
My favourite book of Emily Henry so far!
It's like a love letter to books 💕
I enjoyed the small-town setting during a summer vacation, and it reminded me of Stars Hollow.
The dynamics between Nora and Charlie was an instant like for me, and I loved seeing their relationship growing.
Emily Henry's books never focus on the love aspect too much, but they take time to develop a lot of topics, like grief or sibling relationship.
Highly recommend it!
I liked it. I appreciated that it was not an easy love to figure out since she wanted to live in the city and she didn't just say oh I'll live in the burbs with you. I didn't see the moving part with her sister coming so that was a good turn. I still prefer Beach Read as her best, but this one was good. I liked the publishing parts as well.
Well, I loved this. Probably the best Emily Henry rom-com to date, and this is saying a lot as a person who dislikes the publishing industry and tried to stay away from Book Lovers because of its themes.
Five stars. Love.
Easily my favorite Emily Henry read. Just absolutely delightful characters, dialogue, setting and pace. There's a reason this one has skyrocketed and been beloved my hundreds of thousands of readers.
I absolutely loved this book! I was laughing through the whole thing, and I couldn't put it down. Read it in one night (stayed up until about 4 even though I had a HUGE event at work the next morning. Worth it!). I loved that the characters grew while still being true to themselves. It was fabulous!
Although Nora and Charlie’s romance is unique, sweet, and slow-burny, with sooo much witty banter, my favorite relationship in this story was that of Nora and her younger sister Libby. The two experienced a major tragedy when they were a young adult and a teenager, and Nora has been trying to take care of Libby ever since (even though Libby is married and has two daughters with another on the way). This puts a strain on their relationship, especially when Nora seemingly puts her job before everything else. This story is all about how the two sisters come back together, share their secrets with each other, and discover an even tighter bond than the one they had when they were younger.
If you want to grin, cry a little, laugh out loud, and be amazed by Ms. Henry’s cultural references (especially of the book variety), I highly recommend you read Book Lovers!
Is it possible to give a book 6 stars? When i tell you this book had me laughing out loud and absolutely sobbing I MEAN IT! I’m so thankful to have been given the opportunity to check out this ARC and can’t wait to get my hands on every physical copy version of this book when it gets released next year.
I found myself, in more ways than one, relating to the main character and the story felt so genuine. The overly sappy tropes were minimal and both the mc and love interest were career driven independent individuals that i respected so much.
This story had me doubling over laughing and even sobbing my eyes out towards the end. The slow burn was amazing. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK ENOUGH!
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for giving me free access to the advanced copy of this book to read.
