Emily Henry could write a grocery list and I would read it. I absolutely adore her novels. I think Book Lovers is my favorite novel from Emily Henry. I just loved everything about this book.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry was great! She covered all the things that make a good book outstanding - it was real, romantic, funny, sisterly, and bookish.
This is a book that was so hyped-up, I was pleased that it was actually good. I really liked Beach Read, I didn't like People We Meet on Vacation, and I haven't really read much of her before she exploded into popularity.
I enjoyed this novel, though, and it was a fun fast read that is based on my tropes. This book is sure to be popular with the BookTok fanbase and will easily find it's audience of middle class, white, college-educated women.
My first EmHen and I get the hype. She knows how to play up the enemies-to-lovers situation, tease out the tension, and go for The Jugular when the time is ripe. Don't get me wrong, the plot is clichéd as hell, like every Hallmark holiday romcoms about a big city girl in a small town, but there is a reason why they are so popular... coupled with Nora and Charlie's top-shelf quality banter, and the palpable sexual chemistry between them, bam, you've got a hit. Looking forward to EmHen's new book in 2023, Happy Place!
Just absolute perfection. Obsessed with the characters, the banter, the setting, the humor, and ALL of the quotes. This also touched on the grief after losing a parent, which was heart wrenchingly beautiful to read. Will now proceed to read everything else this author has written.
“Just because not everyone gets you doesn’t mean you’re wrong. You’re someone people can count on. Really count on. And that doesn’t make you cold or boring.”
The way I feel so seen after reading this book. This is why I love to read. I really cannot say enough good things about this book and the way it made me feel. Emily Henry never fails to impress me with the way she can craft such simple, yet perfect stories. They always feel so real and relatable without becoming mundane or boring. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, her books are the absolute best beach reads. She’s somehow able to strike this perfect balance to keep you interested without anything too overly stressful or sad happening to pull you out of your happy vacation mood.
Plot:
Nora is a publishing agent living in New York. Everyone sees her as an ice queen because she’s cut throat about her job and prioritizes her clients over her personal life, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Her sister is pregnant with her third child, and begs Nora to take a break from work and go with her on a babymoon of sorts to a small town in North Carolina she’s been wanting to visit from one of her favorite books. After some convincing Nora agrees, but immediately regrets it when she runs into her surely coworker Charlie upon arrival. It’s a small town so there’s really no avoiding each other.. and after a few chance encounters and learning a bit more about each other maybe they don’t actually want to.
Final thoughts:
This book was just so perfect in so many ways. I truly felt like Emily was writing certain parts directly for me with how personally I related to them. She has been an auto buy author for me and someone who’s books I recommend to everyone ever since picking up Beach Read, and this book only continues to prove that. I highly, highly, highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet and heart felt read that will really leave an impact. I finished it about a week ago and I still can’t stop thinking about it. Seriously, go read this you will not regret it!
This book was everything I want in a romance. Enemies-to-lovers, insanely witty banter, and spicy scenes. I could go on and on about this banter between Nora and Charlie. It is absolutely perfect. If all of this wasn't perfect enough, the end of Book Lovers had me crying due to it sentimentality. Five stars all around and have recommended it to almost everyone I know.
My favorite book of 2022, by far. Emily Henry does it again with an incredible small town, enemies-to-lovers romance. I would read this over and over again. Charlie Lastra is my dream man.
What a sweet book! This was my introduction to Emily Henry and I thoroughly enjoyed the story.
The characters were quirky and who can resist such sisterly and familial devotion? Looking forward to future books and reading past works by her.
If Emily Henry wasn’t on my favourite-authors-list yet, Book Lovers placed her there on the top.
I loved this book so much and I think this is her best work yet.
Her previous novels, Beach Read and People We Meet on Vacation I adored, but this one raised the bar and now I now my expectations for Henry’s future books will be so high that I kind of feel little sorry for her.
The story follows Nora who says herself that she is the bitch guys leave to have their happily ever after with a small town girl.
Nora is a shark when it comes to business, loves her career and life in the city, but when her younger sister asks her to visit a small town called Sunshine Falls together, she couldn’t say no, although she knows small town romance isn’t a book of her life.
I loved Nora as a narrator.
The novel is written in first person and following Nora’s perspective was everything.
All the Hallmark references and making fun of cliches was amazing. I laughed so many times while reading.
Charlie, who is love interest in the story, was such a good person. I do think he was believable but I also think guys like him are very rare in this world.
If I was still into having book boyfriends I would probably have announced him as mine.
The best part of the story (and if my memory serves me well it is the case in all of the books written by Henry that I have read so far) are conversations between the characters.
They were realistic, entertaining and what made the story shine.
I also want to say that I appreciate that the conflict between the characters was realistic and how it was uncertain how characters would get through it.
I also want to note that I am happy about Nora not going through that cliche character development one would expect from a small town romance, but how the author decided to hug her career orientated persona and gave her a different way to find happiness.
This was a buddy red with my friend Amanda. Reading Book Lovers we had so much fun together.
As I loved this story so much, I am sure I will reread it again at some point. Honestly, I can’t wait for it!
I loved all the snark and sarcasm. I’m not usually a romance person but this was hilarious and steamy and I loved both characters so much!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this arc.
Emily Henry! How many good things can you say about an author? I LOVE that this book talks about books. Nora is my spirit animal! I would give this book 10 stars if I could!
I am a lover of Emily Henry's books. Unapologetically. Tell me another rom-com writer currently who has a better grasp on dialogue. I'll wait. (I also adore her YA magical realism stories. Don't sleep on those!)
So, when I saw that she had a book that was also a love story to books, I knew I'd love it. More than a love story, it's also a book about the love between sisters.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.
Emily Henry has a season pass for me. She has demonstrated her talent again and again and this might be my favorite of hers yet!

rating: 5⭐️

read this if you liked: The Love Hypothesis or any enemies to lovers trope.
This is my favorite Emily Henry book by far! Book Lovers felt like a book dedicated solely to book lovers alike and I couldn’t get enough of it! There’s a reason this book took bookstagram by storm. It’s full of romance, witty banter & sisterly love. It was really refreshing to see a sister relationship (that’s not perfect!) in a book and to shine a light on stilted family dynamics. I enjoyed Nora and Libby’s jaunt to a small town in North Carolina and it felt a little bit out of a Hallmark movie! I loved the “bucket list” tie in with the other main character, Charlie, and the banter he and Nora had as they began chatting more as their paths crossed. The cast of characters in this book is so strong and I adored each and every one of them. I certainly wasn’t ready for this one to end, but loved how it wrapped up. Just read it 🤩
“Is there anything better than iced coffee and a bookstore on a sunny day? I mean, aside from hot coffee and a bookstore on a rainy day.” ― Emily Henry, Book Lovers If you love books, reading, bookstores, coffee, tea, cute towns, and romance this book will make you happy
Loved the premise, characters, and read through this one quickly. Definitely lives up to Henry's previous books.
I absolutely loved this book. It made me laugh, cry, and then laugh and cry simultaneously. I loved the banter so much. The only complaint I have is that Libby called Nora “sissy” about 100x too many (like so much I’d consider taking off 1/2 a star because it was so irksome), but still such a sweet, funny, and lovely read!
This book is just classic Emily Henry! I'm not sure it's my favorite out of all of her titles (I don't think anyone can beat Gus in Beach Read) but it was still super enjoyable and entertaining. I love a good enemies to lovers trope and this one delivers :)
Emily Henry is a must read for me- her level of romance is spot on for my taste. The chemistry between her characters is always well done- making the reader invested throughout. People We Meet on Vacation is still my favorite of Henry's but this is a solid book that I would recommend to romance readers.
