"Sometimes, even when you start with the last page and you think you know everything, a book finds a way to surprise you."
Nora Stephens is a literary agent shark. She's cutthroat, hardworking, and never takes a break. When her sister Libby insists they spend a month-long sister trip in Sunshine Falls, NC, she has no idea it's exactly what she needed.
As I'm sure we all do, I LOVE books about books. Or in this case, book editing. But it’s also almost mocking (in the most loving way possible) cliche romance books and movies but we’re also in on the joke. It feels like it’s breaking the fifth wall. Does any of this make sense? I don’t know but I love it.
Nora is aware that she’s not the heroine in a hometown hallmark movie, she’s the villain the leading man will inevitably dump. But of course, she’s our leading lady. She's so uptight in the most NYC rigid way but she’s also loyal and loving and so protective of her family, with good reason. She’s afraid to love and so resistant but then there’s Charlie. Nora hilariously tries to avoid the attraction.
Emily Henry is the queen of witty banter and tension. Nora and Charlie have that in spades. As they work together (begrudgingly at first) they slowly peel the layers back, learn each other's stories, and begin to see each other as more than coworking enemies. Be ready to fall in love with Charlie Lastra.
I forgot to mention one other this book has that I love: BUCKET LISTS! I don't know why but I love a good bucket list in a book. Nora's sister Libby is determined to make the most of their trip and that comes with a delightfully fun bucket list.

I really loved this book. It was fun, cute and quick witted, but I have to say it started off just like the movie "The Holiday" and I feel like there are areas of the book where it was just taken from romcom movies like The Proposal. I liked the characters and the banter and dialog between them. I would still highly recommend this book.

On paper, main characters Nora and Charlie should be unlikeable. But Emily Henry finds a way to make them LOVABLE.
You ever read a romance book and there’s those side characters who pretty much have a stick up their bum? The main characters’ original love interests that get dumped for being stuck up? The “villians” of the romance genre? Well this is THEIR story.
Emily Henry makes you feel for all of those characters whose downfall you prayed for. These characters were so complex and I enjoyed watching the two of them unravel and peel back their layers.
Book Lovers is the perfect reminder that we all have a story. We all have gone through things that make us who we are. All it takes is the right person to understand us and make us feel not so alone.
I can’t recommend this enough!

I didn't think Emily Henry could top her other two books but I was SO WRONG! THIS IS THE BEST ONE YET!!! I can't get over how obsessed I am with these characters. I read this in one sitting of course and stayed up way too late because I just had to finish it. Perfection. This is definitely on my top 10 of 2022 books!

I love Emily Henry's books. The characters are always complex and well thought out. I love that it isn't a perfect romance, that their are ebbs and flows. The book is realistic with many issues that relationships encounter. AND who doesn't love people who love books!

I honestly don’t know if Emily Henry can do any wrong at this point 😩 Just like Beach Read and People We Meet on Vacation, this was a 5 star read for me. And I can’t resist a good enemies to lovers trope! I appreciate that Henry’s romances always have strong character development and witty banter. I’ve also noticed her books tend to have a strong theme or storyline involving. In this one, the main character has a strong relationship with her sister whom have both lost their mom. The story is equally centered around that as it is the enemies to lovers storyline. I really enjoyed this one and the meta-ness of the two main characters being literary agents was a fun choice!

This novel was a dream come true- a sweet and sexy ode to book lovers. Even with the high expectations that come with a new Emily Henry title, I truly adored it. The story line was smart, funny and full of heart. I cried several times- good tears!
Like her other books, her characters are so richly drawn that it’s hard to believe they’re not living, breathing people, but figments of Henry’s very talented mind. There were lots of interesting backstories with Nora and Charlie’s family members. All the characters had full backgrounds and felt very 3 dimensional, and the relationships were a big part of the book as a whole, to the point where the novel almost veered into relationship fiction/women’s fiction territory. That said, the love story between Nora and Charlie was still at the center of this novel.
The secondary plot which revolved around Nora’s relationship with her sister Libby resonated with me strongly. The sister’s relationship and their chafing at their respective roles of big sister and little sister, was well done.
I very much enjoyed the self-referential storyline. As a big fan of Romances, I appreciated how the tropes of the genre were playfully called out and made an integral part of the story. Relatedly, I like how to the main characters were part of the literary worls (editor and literary agent) and I know book lovers will love that too.
This is one of my favorite books of 2022. Whatever emily Henry writes- I will read.

Emily Henry is an excellent author, her writing has a way of drawing you deep into the plot and the characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this book with one minor flaw. For all her excellence in writing and descriptive style, the story was VERY predictable. I made my guess within the first 50 pages and I was really hoping I was wrong… but I was spot on which was a little disappointing. I can always appreciate assuming I know what’s going to happen but then finding out in the end I got some or most of it wrong. Will still be heavily recommending this book.

This is a new author for me but I feel that she is fast becoming a favorite. I loved this book! I feel that this will be a popular summer read. I plan on ordering multiple copies for the library!

Content: Language and sexual situations
I received and ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Major take away: Other people dream that it's the last day of school and they haven't gone to math all year?? I'm 45 and I still have this dream. I thought it was just me.
This is a romance book that is really written as a romance. It's not a smut book written around sex scenes. I loved the characters, all of them. Charlie Lastra is absolutely nothing like the man that I love in real life. And I am nothing like Nora. (Actually, I might be something like Nora but my life is nothing like hers.) Even so, they were both so incredibly relatable. There was a time, at a little over halfway through the book, that I thought it was going to be too long and almost called it quits. It's not too long. The cat needed to stay.

How could I resist a book called Book Lovers? The witty narration and banter in this book made me chuckle and/or giggle. It was fluffy and fun. I was less into it when the characters talked about feelings and some of their difficult backstories, though. Thankfully, that didn't happen too frequently, and I mostly enjoyed this silly book.

She started off doing pretty much fade to black in Beach Read.
People We Meet on Vacation? More spicy, could tell she was more okay with it.
Book Lovers? This is where it’s at. She’s really hitting her stride.
I spread this book out over as many days as I could just because it was so good I didn’t want to be done.

Emily Henry's books always draw me in. I've been on a huge reading dry spell and not much has held my interest. This authors books I have always devoured. The characters are entertaining and well developed. The humor and banter are always fun.

Another Emily Henry novel that does not disappoint! I absolutely tore through this and loved every second of it!

Emily Henry - the queen of summer romance reads, does it again! I loved Book Lovers and cannot wait to recommend this fun and fresh book.

Very sweet book. It wasn't as predictable as other contemporary romances and had very smart humor. This was my favorite of all of Emily Henry's books, so far.

Smart, funny, turns tropes on their heads. This was a perfect quick read: feel-good and low-stakes. Made all the more appealing by lots of discussion of the book industry!

I was thrilled to be able to read an ARC of Book Lovers from NetGalley. I discovered Emily Henry last year and quickly read her previous books. Book Lovers is in the same vein as Beach Read and People We Meet On Vacation--two people who are perfect for each other but have a hard time getting the stars to align so that they can be together. Besides the well-developed, likeable characters that we have come to expect from Henry, this book has some additional loveliness to it. The book lovers of the title are Nora, a literary agent, and Charlie, a book editor, and we the readers, of course. BL is full of references to other books, from Anne of Green Gables to Wuthering Heights. It's also a love note to NYC, where both Nora and Charlie live (although very little of the book takes place there). Nora, herself, is named after Nora Ephron, whose movie You've Got Mail is also an homage to the City, and like that movie much of the communication between the main characters is done electronically--email and text. BL also revolves around family--both Nora and Charlie are devoted to their families, devoted enough to up end their entire lives to be there for their families, and as job-obsessed, tough New Yorkers as they are, we love them even more for their familial commitments. Book Lovers is a lovely book. I'm just a bit disappointed I read it so fast that I don't have it to look forward to any longer.

How does she do it? Honestly, I want to know. How does Emily Henry write the BEST book every year?! Ever since Beach Read (which I proclaimed “perfect” and was sure nothing could top it), I have been obsessed with Henry’s writing and I am absolutely positive that she just cannot write a bad book.
I absolutely adored last year’s release (People We Meet on Vacation) so much that it was easily my favorite book of 2021, and now it seems like I’ve already peaked in 2022 by reading Book Lovers and it’s only January 9th and why do her books have to end and also is she on Venmo because I think she might be my therapist now??
Seriously though, Book Lovers was incredible. I loved every bit of it. I honestly think Nora & Charlie are my favorite couple she’s written to date, and their banter had me laughing so hard I was crying. And then I was just legitimately crying because these characters’ stories just moved me so much. Emily Henry is known for bringing us utterly hilarious Rom Coms but also weaving so much depth and true character growth throughout the story that you’re always left feeling so satisfied, and yet always wishing you could hang out with those characters for just a little longer. In a bookstore, of course.
Emily Henry is officially the Meg Ryan/Sandra Bullock Rom Com Queen of the Book World and I am here for it! Book Lovers releases on May 3rd and I can’t wait for everyone to read this incredible book!

I liked the premise that the main character was actually the one that didn’t usually get the guy but ended up with her own small town experience. Nora isn’t your usual heroine. She is uptight, a control freak and very prickly but that’s OK because she finds someone who is very similar and they hit it off.
If you are looking for a very light, easy read you won’t be disappointed. I did race ahead towards the end and would have liked maybe 20 pages taken out as it dragged. Maybe Nora and Charlie would have edited it better? :)
Thanks Netgalley for the ARC.
