I loved it from the moment I started it and its definitely one of my favourite K.L. Slater books so far.
A very twisty and turny psychological thriller that keeps you hooked and turning the pages and a fantastic ending you would never have expected. Great writing throughout and really interesting characters and their background and secrets completely draws you in to this book.
I'll definitely be looking out for and reading more by this author in the future.
A big thank you to Bookoutre and Netgalley for the complimentary arc in exchange for an honest review.
The book begins with Kate looking on as the police dig on the Wadebridge estate. Will the dig unearth something that might incriminate her recently deceased husband, Michael? Her husband, of whom she had thought the world of, who she knew wouldn't harm a fly?
Thus starts the tale of mystery and intrigue. What will the police find? Was Michael a two-faced person? How is Jakub Jasinski, a Polish labourer connected to all this?
This is the first KL Slater book I have read though I have heard great reviews for Blink. I wouldn't say this book was the absolute best. But the ends were all tied up well and the pace was brilliant. The book was a total page-turner.
I still have other books by this author on the TBR and I hope to read them in the near future.
4 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
After the disappearance of a local woman, Suzy, and the apparent suicide of her husband Michael, Kate has to figure out what secrets he was hiding from her. She knows he had nothing to do with Suzy going missing, but the more she uncovers the more she questions her husband's innocence.
Wow this story had so many twists that tied everything together in the end. There were a lot of other things going on which made the book more interesting. I'm a big fan of this author's books and I look forward to reading the next one.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
Slater can tell a story that will keep you turning the pages one after another.
The widow is a story about family, friendships and community. It’s a story that shows you it only takes one accusation for your whole world to fall about.
Slater did a fabulous job with the suspense and surprises you don’t see coming.
Can’t wait for the next book by this author.
K.L Slater knows how to write a cracking book, and The Widow is once more a thriller I could not put down
Looking forward to the next story!
This ended up being better than expected. It was hard to put down and had really thrilling moments. Definitely recommend
The promo blurb was compelling. The book not so much. I struggled to stay interested and eventually skipped chapters. The plot was good, but for me the writing fell short. I didn’t care about the characters and by the end didn’t care about what had happened.
Thank you Netgalley and the publishers, for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great read! Impressive.
Wow what a thriller hang on the edge of your seat read! I highly recommend this book and think it’s a must read that you won’t be able to put down!
I read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
This is really not my genre, however, I make an exception for K L Slater. I have a read a few of their offerings and, honestly, am never disappointed
This is fantastic. Very twisty turny - some thrillers are a bit formulaic and predictable and this is soooo NOT
I loved it and would highly recomment
Kate is about to find out that her husband, Michael, did something bad, but she is not convinced yet. When Suzy, a single mom, new in town, disappears, all eyes are on Michael.
Thanks to Netgalley for this book.
Really enjoyed this book, struggled to put it down once I had started reading. Plenty of twists and turns, did not see the ending coming. Definitely worth reading
Another fun, thrilling ride from Slater! Written in her signature stile, with excellent character development! A fast paced roller coaster of a book, which will chill you, thrill you, and shock you! Twisty as a pretzel! Highly, highly recommend!

Kate and Michael and their 6-year-old daughter, Tansy; are best friends with Donna and Paul and their 6-year-old daughter, Ellie. Michael worked as the property and land manager for major landowner Irene up in Wadebridge. A polish immigrant, Suzy Baros, a single mom shows up in town with her son Aleks…and then soon disappears…
Everyone is convinced that Michael had something to do with Suzy’s disappearance.
Then one day, Michael was hit by a lorry, and sadly passed away in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Now at 34, Kate was a widow.
Michael's death was ruled a suicide, but why would he take his own life?
The local police, led by Detective Inspector Helena Price, through their investigation, find that Michael and Suzy had many secrets.
Kate is determined to find out the truth, and prove her husband’s innocence, so her young daughter won’t remember her dad as some kind of monster. But Suzy is still missing. What is going on? I had to keep reading to find out the truth.
This is a well-written, compelling thriller. The plot is complex with stand-out characters. This book was full of twists and turns and kept me guessing until the very end, which I absolutely love in a book. The ending was quite surprising, and totally unexpected.
Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for my digital copy.
Interesting plot with likeable characters and unexpected twists.
3 Stars.
Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and KL Slater for my copy in exchange for review.
I have read all of K L Slater’s previous novels and always enjoy. This one is no exception.
Kate Shaw's world takes a dramatic turn the day that her husband Michael commits suicide by stepping in front of a lorry. There is a police investigation linking him to a murder. Kate knows her husband and is convinced that he did not do anything wrong.
As the story progresses it becomes clear that the investigation could go either way.
Full of twists, turns and kept me guessing until the end.
Another brilliant read and highly recommended. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and KL Slater for the ARC of The Widow in return for my honest review.
The Widow by K.L. Slater was another brilliant book by Kim. I was gripped from the very first few pages. then, again I am with all her books, they are all very addictive! Kim ways has a way of bringing you into her books and you will hooked from the very beginning!. This latest book was full of twists and turns and very hard to put down and differently a great page turner
Another brilliant psychological thriller that will shock you and surprise you when you read this book. I love this book!
I highly recommend this book and all Kim's book. They have all been great reads!
Big thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review
Im a huge fan of K.L Slaters books and was really looking forward to this newest read. This is classed as a psychological thriller but I’m not sure it lives up to that. It’s told in the past and present day from the points of view of several characters which is always a plus for me but it felt drawn out and such a slow burn until about 65%/70% of the read which was a little disappointing as from the blurb I was hoping for twists and turns throughout as the read progressed. When it did get going it was gripping for sure but it was a little to late as some may not stick with it that long. As for the characters some very likeable ones but some really unlikeable and some not given enough airtime so to speak. It was an interesting storyline when it got going but it’s disappointing it took that long as it had great potential.
3.5/5 🌟🌟🌟/🌟
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this ARC that was published on the 12th of Nov.
There’s a reason @klslaterauthor is one of my fav authors, I find her books seldom disappoint. This was another awesome read. Wasn’t quite a five star, and I can’t put my finger on why, but it was 4.5 close. I really loved the scene with the daughter at the stream where she kissed the flower and released it 🥲 I really enjoyed Donna, she made a strong backup character. Paul was a douche 🙄 and I never would have guessed the killer and that back part of the book was pretty intriguing!! As usual, the saddest part of reading a new book, is knowing you’ve got to wait until the next is released 😂🤦🏽♀️
Thanks so much to @netgalley @bookouture and the author for my arc always appreciated 🙏🏼
This book had it all, well developed personal likeable characters I could relate to, I loved the small-town rural setting, I loved the inter-generational friendships between Amos and Michael, Kate and Irene, and Irene and Tansy. The on-off again friendship between Kate and local café owner Donna whose daughter Ellie is best friends with Tansy, because Donna won’t hear a bad word about her husband Paul who has wandering eyes.
Then their idyllic lifestyle in their serene little town is turned on its head after Suzy a Polish Immigrant with her young son moves into one of the cottages on Irene’s estate, then mysteriously disappears. Kate’s beloved husband Michael suddenly takes his own life, and excavation works commence on Wadebridge estate.
I was so engrossed in this story, it had so many twists and turns, it was fast paced, with so many untruths revealed in a jaw dropping ending I did not see coming. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book, I really enjoyed it. The Grand Finale take away for me after reading The Widow is the exciting back catalogue of Kim Slater’s books, I’m going to read them in descending order, I can’t wait to start, I’m going to dive into “The Evidence” next.
