In this latest installment in the Detective Kim Stone series, she and her team are confounded by Steven, who claims to have knowledge of a missing girl named Melody from twenty-five years ago. What makes it unusual is that he just walked into the police station and admitted that he had information. Did he freely give this information, though? Of course not, because he wants to play games. Kim would normally pay him no mind except that right on his cue, the station is alerted to a girl who was just reported missing. And when the team attends the site of her disappearance, they find a piece of jewelry that belonged to Melody. Looks like this guy knows what he's talking about.

Kim and her team have to hurry and find evidence because they physically don't have enough to charge him with. They look into all missing girl cases that follow a similar pattern and hope that one of these disappearances will break the case open. At the same time, the team is provided with an expert on interrogation in hopes of getting Steven to crack. That goes about as well as expected, and Kim is allowed to bring in someone who can actually assist - Alison Lowe. Her banter with Kim is refreshing and her insights and experience with micro expressions and deceit indictors are fascinating.

Kim's interactions with Dr. Alexandria Thorne, however, aren't so fun. I'm not a big fan of this character and I really didn't expect her storyline to go as it did. Certainly in prison there are going to be people that see through her façade. It paints everyone else as clueless and in real life, plenty of people can see manipulation like hers for what it is. Especially likeminded criminals - it takes one to know one, after all. Otherwise, I enjoyed the story immensely, especially when I was completely blindsided towards the end! I always love being caught off guard and this story didn't disappoint!

Our favourite detective is back and straight into a case of a missing eight year old girl, Grace. He first took one twenty five years ago and in a sunny August afternoon he takes another from a childcare centre. Hours before she went missing, Steven Harte walked into DI Kim Stones station and confesses to having information about Melody Jones, the young girl who’s been missing for quarter of a century. Kim initially dismisses him as another time waster but a crucial piece of evidence at the latest crime scene forces her to consider playing his twisted game if she is to find Grace alive.

I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. It travels at a fast pace and each chapter leaves you hungry for the next. I can’t wait for book 16!

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the for the chance to review.

How is it possible that this is book 15 and it’s still going strong? This was incredible. I knew I would be hooked but this exceeded my expectations. Kim Stone is on the hunt for a missing child when a man walks into the station and begins a game that’s hard to resist. I had no idea how things would play out & the ending had me shaking my head and saying WTF. If that wasn’t enough, Kim’s nemesis, Alex is back and gripping Kim in her claws again. Absolutely loved every moment of this book. As much as I’m happy that I got to read it early, I’m disappointed in having to wait so long before the next one!

As a huge fan of this author I always love seeing new books come out. I have followed Kim Stone from the start and the cases she finds herself investigating just keep getting better with each successive book in the series.

There are twists and turns aplenty hidden in the pages, and I didn’t figure it out until the author revealed it. That for me is a sign of a good book.

A great addition to the series. Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for providing a copy.

OMFG Angela Marsons is back with the fifteenth book in the Detective Kim Stone series Stolen Ones and yet again she has delivered on all fronts. Nail biting, thrilling, and riveting the author has pulled out all the stops. This is the only long running crime series I continue to read. Forget the book description, forget the reviews. I will read it whatever! The series remains unpredictable, with. Intricate plots that beg the reader to read in one deliciously satisfying sitting.

The author takes a bold risk and reveals the ‘who’ from the start. I’m not sure about you, but one thing I love about crime thriller is working out the ‘who’. Fortunately for Marsons, she can pull it off whilst maintaining a high level of suspense as to the ‘why’. The tag line for this book sums up the plot perfectly ‘25 years ago he took a girl. Today he takes another’.Kim and her team have their work cut out with their latest investigation as it’s one that’s shrouded in confusion and the unexpected.

With a prime suspect firmly in her sights, Kim only has twenty-four hours to make every second of their interrogation count, which adds to the tension tenfold. The author’s meticulous research into interrogation techniques adds authenticity to the plot. As if things aren’t bad enough already the author brings back one of Kim’s old Nemesis’s, it’s a name readers of the series will know well, psychopath Dr Alex Thorne. Alex continues to taunt Kim from behind prison bars, a hateful woman, but oh my, she’s also fascinating in a strange sort of way!

The one thing that makes this series stand out is the characters. Kim and her team are meticulously crafted. They are the heart and soul of this series. The banter between them adds a dose of humour to the read.
I’m not sure how Angela Marsons comes up with her original plots, but she continues to surprise me with every book she writes. This series never feels stale, boring or repetitive. She writes with grit, enthusiasm, and passion, and incorporates all the ingredients needed to create yet another book to add to this stellar series. Would I recommend Stolen One? You bet I would!

When you start reading a Kim Stone book, you instantly feel welcomed back into the family. The characters are now so familiar to me that I miss them until the next installment.

Angela Marsons gives us Kim Stone fanatics a completely different scenario this time. The perpetrator appearing voluntarily to the police station. I was fascinated to see how Kim and her team would face this and solve the crime.

As always, the short snappy chapters kept me reading and interested. I struggled to put this book down and devoured it quickly without feeling guilty about it.

I cannot wait for the next book already, so that I can be reunited with one of my favourite crime fighting teams.

I have to say, with the suspects surname being Harte I kept getting confused between the Kim Stone books and DI Gina Harte.... oops!

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.

Wow, I think the author has wrote a cracker of a book here, and one that certainly does not disappoint. It’s great being back with Kim and her team as they investigate the disappearance of a young girl from a child care centre. So when a man attends the police station with information about a 25 year old unsolved case Kim initially dismisses him and starts to take him seriously when an item from that case is found in the garden of the child care centre. I just loved this book, and was hooked right from the start. I really liked the psychology parts included, of how to tell from an individuals behaviour and traits are they lying or not and felt this added a lot of depth to the story. With the team working in the background, add on the return of an old character, the twists as the book progressed (wow) there was everything I loved in this brilliant book - great writing, suspense, a well thought out plot that had me totally immersed in the characters and the story all the way through. Can’t wait for the next one.

When you read my reviews about this series, they must sound really boring. I mean boring not because the books are!! Noooooo, on the contrary! What I have to say about them is always the same, because the stories are always amazingly good and this 15th one is no exception to that rule.

Kim and her team are great. Kim is feisty, has sometimes (ahum) trouble hiding her temper, but her heart is in the right place. She will do everything she can to save victims or to provide justice for them. Her team is just as dedicated. They hardly eat or sleep before a case is closed.

Wasn't it wonderful to meet up with a lovely(ahum) character from the past? It shocks me time and again how some people are masters in manipulating other people to get there own way without a care in the world!

Manipulation though is a very good base to built a fantastic story on.

The author has created a culprit I felt sorry for to a certain level. He had good intentions but he certainly chose the wrong way to help them. Well, some would not agree of course…

I loved this story, but that was no surprise. As soon as I open a book by this author, I know I am in for a treat. 5 stars

Thank you

Angela Marsons latest is a cracking addition to her popular West Midlands DI Kim Stone crime series, and features the return of the dangerous, scheming, manipulative, and ruthless psychiatrist and sociopath that is Dr Alexandra Thorne, in prison with a upcoming parole hearing. Thorne is determined to ensure that she will be released, and is leaving nothing to chance, and part of her plans involve trying to get Kim to help her. Having Alex back in her life is the last thing that Kim needs, its the 25th anniversary of the abduction of 7 year old Melody Jones from the notorious Hollytree Estate, and the event has all the crazies crawling out to make their false confessions. So when a man, Steven Harte, walks into the police station saying he has information on Melody, and will only speak to Kim, her only aim is to quickly get rid of what appears to be another time waster.

Kim and DS Bryant make their way to Little Peeps Daycare Centre, where 8 year old Grace Lennard has gone missing during a fire drill. Harte's apparent knowledge of this forces Kim to take him far more seriously, as the discovery of a bracelet links the old and now new case. An assured and confident Harte is intent on controlling matters, dispensing information as he sees fit, hinting at the taking of other young girls. With no grounds to arrest him, Kim is not happy at being played by a killer, as her boss, DCI Woodward, brings in an ex-MI5 trainer specialising in interviewing and interrogation techniques to help. However, there is only person that the police team believe can help, the consulting behaviourist, Alison Lowe. With the clock ticking, and the discovery of bones at Hawne Park, Kim and her crack team work all the hours they can in the hope of locating and rescuing young Grace.

Marsons once again writes a story packed with tension and suspense, with surprising twists that you will not see coming. There is a strong focus on the skills and expertise behind effective police interviews and interrogations in a bid to get Harte to reveal vital information and confess to his crimes. One of the interesting aspects is how victims can come to connect with and identify with their captors, Stockholm Syndrome, and when it comes to perpetrators, the lesser known Lima Syndrome. This was a great fast paced crime read, a terrific addition to the series, it's amazing how the author can keep on coming up with such compulsive storylines and plots. It was a joy to reconnect with the familiar characters of Kim and her wonderfully solid, trusted, reliable and supportive police team, and catch up with what is happening in their lives. Many thanks to the publisher for an ARC.

The 15th book in the Kim Stone series is ready to hit the bookshelves and avid readers of the series will not be disappointed. You just know it's going to be a great read.
It's the 25th anniversary of Melody Jones's disappearance, in previous years there have been numerous claims from crackpot claiming they know where she is. So when Steven Harte casually walks into Kim's station she dismisses him, until he tells her she's going to be busy. Within minutes she discovers Grace has gone missing from a child care facility and so begins the race to find her. Adding to Kim's stress levels in the news that her arch enemy Alex Thorne is due for parole from prison.
As per usual I loved the book, I love that we are getting to see the softer side of Kim, the camaraderie between the team and the dialogue with Kim and Keats never fails to make me smile. Added to that the love to hate character Alex, however evil she is its good to see her back
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review

If you are looking for a series that is guaranteed to hook you from the very beginning of each book and keep you invested in the story right to the last page, then you could absolutely do no better than to get yourself hooked on the Kim Stone series. I did, intrigued as I was by the fact the author is local to me and I know much of the locale in which all of the series is set, and, since book one, I have never looked back. Stolen Ones is yet another cracker of a story, all of the hallmark moments of any Kim Stone story, all wrapped up in what is very much a ticking clock investigation. Or should that be a cold case? Or maybe, a very clever story which combines the best elements of both.

The story examines a 25 year old child abduction case, one which has led to a succession of false confessions and crank calls over the years, but whose latest anniversary brings Kim and the team a lead which they aren't able to dismiss quite so quickly. Add into the mix another missing child, skeletal remains and the return of the one person who has always been able to get under Kim's skin and readers are faced with a story that showcases what Angela Marsons does best. Creates a perfect blend of tension, mystery, police investigation and canny characters who will delight and quite probably infuriate you.

Whilst the new case of missing Grace Lennard plays heavily on the teams mind, it is the original missing persons case, that of Melody Jones, that commands most of their focus. For Kim, getting to the heart of that investigation is key to solving this latest abduction. It allows Angela Marsons to explore the psychology of interviews, of drawing out the truth from a witness who is seemingly both reluctant and yet intent on sharing information with her. There are surprising links, not only between the two investigations, but also between the characters, that are kept well hidden and revealed at just the right moment to keep tension high, whilst giving real insight into the motivations of the mysterious Steven Harte.

He may appear to be one step ahead of Kim and the team, but he doesn't know them like we do. They are dogged, determined and bloody fun to spend time with. In spite of all the challenges the case throws at them, and there are many, you know that Angela Marsons has written them and. developed their traits so perfectly that there was no doubt in my mind they would triumph. Did that mean the story lost a touch of tension? Not for one moment, because the author plays a blinder and only offers readers just enough information to keep us on the edge of the seat. There are some real shocks and surprises in store, and the way the story dips into the psychology of both victim and perpetrator kept me fascinated. And smiling. A lot.

And for long standing fans of the series the return of Kim's one true nemesis, Alex Thorne, is sure to get you smiling. She may only be on the edges of the action as far as Kim and the investigation are concerned - she is still incarcerated after all - but it doesn't mean that she can't cause trouble. She has the capacity to turn Kim's life upside down, and revels in the idea of it. Her story thread is interspersed with the main investigation and it's good to see that she hasn't lost a single one of her sharp edges, or her ability to manipulate or control others. She's on top form once more, perhaps one of the best characters that Angela Marsons has created outside of the main team.

With all the wit, banter, tension and conflict that we've come to expect from the series, Stolen Ones is another winner and one that will most definitely leave fans hungry for more.
