Cute, but I wasn't totally crazy about it. I don't love name and designer name dropping in books because I find it to be a little dated and then I can't stop thinking about how real people don't talk like that.
Quick read, good for romance lovers, but probably won't make your top 10 list of the year.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper 360 for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
A fun sweet read! Highly recommend.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my ARC.
This is a whirlwind romance set against the glamorous backdrop of the Mediterranean. Fran Cooper, feeling stuck in her rainy English life, unexpectedly finds herself as the acting assistant to a famous singer on a luxurious yacht. As they head towards a star-studded gala on a tiny Italian island, Fran's adventure takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with Evan, a mysterious and charming stranger.
Kelk weaves a tale of romance and intrigue as Fran and Evan share a promise of one unforgettable night with no strings attached. The chemistry between them is palpable, and as they dance under the stars, Fran is transported to a world far from her own. But reality soon sets in when Fran realizes she's a gatecrasher at the Crystal Ball, and Evan belongs to a world she can't reach.
While the premise is enchanting, "On a Night Like This" struggles to fully deliver on its promise. The characters feel somewhat underdeveloped, and the plot can feel predictable at times. However, Kelk's vivid descriptions and charming writing style make for an enjoyable read, perfect for those looking for a light-hearted escape into the world of romance.
A feel good book, but I went in thinking this was a romance book and while there is a bit of romance, I would say if you are big into that trope, just know it might not full your cup. I liked Fran and the situations that she got into and the whirlwind of life for her.
This was so much fun! I loved the friendship that Fran and Juliet developed throughout the book. This was a perfect warm and fuzzy romance novel and friendship story too!! I loved it!
On A Night Like This has the feel of a modern day Cinderella. Fran is a young woman who is out of a job and no longer in love with her fiancé. When she is offered the opportunity to work for a celebrity for a five day period, she quickly jumps on it and becomes the personal assistant to famous singer Juliette. Juliette has a reputation of treating her personal assistants poorly but when she and Fran meet they just seem to click. Or at least that is what Fran thinks until she finds herself stranded and finds out that Juliette has backed out of one of her engagements: the Crystal Ball.
Fran decides to take a chance and go to the Crystal Ball by herself. This leads to an interesting night encountering the more well to do of society, including multimillionaire Evan. Evan and Fran meet prior to the ball in a pretty funny meet cute but, Fran never expected to see him again. So when she sees him at the ball, she is captivated and in many ways swept off her feet.
It took me a bit to warm up to the character of Fran. She has obviously lost her place in her life so used to being known as Stew's fiancé. She gave up everything to support him. This job is her first opportunity to really find herself again. As Fran started opening up a bit so did my perspective on her. She could be really genuine and likeable but also a tad bit naïve. This nativity is challenged by Evan who forces her to try nd figure out what she actually wants out of her life.
Evan is definitely the prince of this story. He is just so likeable and appears to be down to earth even though he holds so much money. In many of his encounters with Fran, he just seems to good to be true, which I guess is perfect for a new take on a classic story. Unfortunately, we don't meet him until half way through the book which was surprising to me as this was presented as a romance. That was kind of off putting for me as a reader.
On A Night Like This definitely has a feel of a fairytale. It had its moments where it did make my heart flutter a bit. Most of these were during Fran and Evan's interactions. Unfortunately, there were other parts of the story which simply dragged, and felt like they could have been more condensed. I wish we had gotten to the romance sooner. I think I would have enjoyed the story a bit more then.
I couldn’t get into this one. Might pick it up another time, but right now it doesn’t seem to be catching my attention! I have heard great things from other people though.
Lindsey Kelk does it again with this bingeable twist on Cinderella!
This fairytale theme mixed with powerful self growth, second chances and friendship themes are inspirationally executed. Even though the cover and the blurb’s definition made us think this is a romance book, it’s more a chic lit, women’s fiction. The story isn’t centered on romance.
Fun, quick read!

Overall, "On a Night Like This" is a heartwarming and enjoyable romance novel that will appeal to fans of the genre. Lindsey Kelk has crafted a compelling and entertaining story that will leave readers feeling satisfied and uplifted.
This author is great at writing the sweetest romcoms! This is the second book I have read by her and I have loved both of them. They are great when you just need to turn you brain off for a bit and just get wrapped in the cutest love story.
This book was a 2.5 stars for me. I think the cover made me think it was a full romance but it was more of a woman finding who she is and putting herself first. There was very little romance. I found the story was a bit repetitive.
Super sweet - reminded me a bit of The Secret Bridesmaid at the beginning but then the story moved away from the F/F friendship and picked up the romantic interest side of the story.
I wasn't blown away with this one but it was definitely a sweet, happy romance.
this was a fun book! Francesca is in a stagnant relationship and takes a job elsewhere for a week. She is an assistant to a famous diva singer on a yacht headed to the Crystal ball for her to perform.. It is all kinds of crazy the things that happen. Fran meets Evan at the Crystal Ball and her life is changed forever. This journey has her learning all kinds of things about her self and what she deserves and desires. Lots of fun!
Thanks to Harper 360 and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed the advanced reader copy and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Fran Cooper made a wish for her life to change and suddenly it has. She is now the assistant to a very popular celebrity and sailing around the Mediterranean on a yacht! She decides to attend the exclusive Crystal Ball. However, there is one problem. Fran doesn’t have an invitation. As she tries to maintain a low profile, she meets Evan and they are instantly connected. Fran is a modern day Cinderella! Will she end up with her Prince Charming in the end?
I really enjoyed this book. Fran’s character grows and changes throughout the story. The descriptions of the scenery and setting make you feel like you’re in a luxurious trip as well. Hop aboard and get a peek inside the lives of the rich and famous.
Another winner by Lindsey Kelk! After having read In Case You Missed It, I knew I had to read this. I really enjoyed this story and found liked the chemistry between Fran and Evan and adored how their story progressed. After having read this, I can't wait for the next book from this author. 3.5 Stars.
I unfortunately did not like this at all. I tried a couple of times to get into it but for me this fell really flat I am absolutely gutted as I really like the author and it seemed to work for so many others, but I think I am going to have to just wait for the author to come out with something else and give it a shot.
This one is a little slow moving, I feel like we spend so much time with her and her bad fiance in the beginning it took me awhile to get into this. But as you move along and she really thinks about her life its very moving and meaningful to see her change. Then all the fun stuff that happens means more because she's done the work. Overall a fairytale story with a healthy dose of reality mixed in.
This was a cute, sweet read but it didn’t really hook me. I had to keep reminding myself to read it. It was a very slow burn and the love interests don’t meet each other until halfway through. It wasn’t my cup of tea but I think a lot of readers will find it sweet.
This book was so adorable!! If you’re a fan of British rom coms, Cinderella retellings, and Taylor swift, you will love this book! I found this to be a light and easy read. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it!
Give me alllll of the books about movies! This was a book I put off on reading until I felt like I was ready for it, which I apologize - was after the pub date.
This was a fun romcom but it was also so much more than that.
This is giving Cinderella vibes, and I loved it!
