I think I wanted to like this book more than I did, and I wanted more from this book than I got. I really liked Flora and Juliette together and I think I wanted more of a full story instead of just Flora getting to go to the ball and that being it. It was a good story and I liked the characters but it sort of felt like the beginning of a book instead of a full book.
This book was a very slow start for me. The pacing in the first half felt tedious and I almost didn’t finish but I am so glad I did. About halfway through the book Fran becomes less whiney, a bit more take charge and a lot more tolerable. The story flows and is genuinely funny, sweet, and sappy (like all good romance novels).
Fran Cooper has always done what was safe and expected of her. She is engaged to Stew, although things aren't exactly wonderful, she's also looking for a job. Her life isn't what she expected, so when an opportunity to travel as the assistant to a celebrity comes up, she decides to take the chance and do something out of her comfort zone.
I really enjoyed this book. A cross between Cinderella and Pretty Woman, this book is probably everyone's dream at some point. I loved Fran, she was such such likeable character. The book was fun to read, and probably extremely over the top with the Crystal Ball, but it was a great read! If you want to lose yourself in a quick, fun read, this is it! I'm looking forward to reading more by this author!
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper 360 for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I liked this book, but wish there'd been a little bit more after the ball. I would have loved to see more of the main character's life after the life changing experience.
This is my first Lindsey Kelk book and it did not disappoint.
Francesca "Fran" is in a controlling dead end relationship with her college sweetheart. She works as a temporary personal assistant after her fiancee requested that she take a job where she would not be required to travel. Fran is in-between jobs and calls a temp agency looking for work. She ends up with a 5 day job with a celebrity on a yacht. Fran is tasked with getting to the Crystal Ball, Europe's equivalent to the Met Ball.
Fran's Cinderella like journey kept me hooked from the first page. The adventure of her doing new things, finding her voice and truly becoming confident in her newly found voice is something that is both powerful and uplifting. This book will keep you rapt to the last page.
This was the friendship novel I didn't know I needed. Truly, the romantic plot line isn't the most important aspect of the book, and surprisingly, I didn't care! Women's friendships are so precious, and to spend time with characters who are supportive of one another was such a nice treat. Well done, Lindsey!
Read this if you:
🎤ever watched the show Nashville
🎤own [or want to own] a yacht
🎤would ever sneak into a big event
🎤liked Cinderella
What a fun modern day telling of Cinderella. I flew through this and it was just so cute! If you’re wanting a cute rom-com, definitely pick this one up.
Thank you NetGalley & Harper Collins for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. Pub day: Jan 18
A fun lighthearted rom.com from the master of romance,,Lindsey Kelk! Fran gets the opportunity of a lifetime to leave her noncommittal boyfriend and work for the superstar, Juliette. As she forms a friendship with the star, she meets Evan, a jetsetter himself. Sparks fly and a wonderful romantic story enfold. A fun read.
I love a feel good British rom com and no one does it better than Lindsay kelk. Fran is out of work and in a dead end relationship. A temp job leads to an experience of a lifetime hobnobbing with the rich and famous, befriending the biggest pop icon on the planet, and a new romance. All culminating at Christmas. Just the perfect fairy tale escape from reality we all need right now.
I loved this story about Fran and her journey on finding her perfect life. I love that she was able to turn down opportunities in Love, friendship and career that where not perfect for the life she wants to live. This story is so sweet, funny and smart! I especially love the very last line of the book!
This was super cute and something I wanted to read for a while! I loved everything about it, from the romances that I was indulged in and the absolutely amazing writing. These are characters I’ll surely remember for a very long time into the future!
Another fun @netgalley book completed!
On a Night Like This was a fun modern retelling of Cinderella. I’m stating this right away because I didn’t realize it and I was so confused 40% into the book. 😂 Once I figured that out, I enjoyed it so much more!
I loved Fran. I really connected with her and it was nice to watch her growth offer the course of the book. I also liked Juilette by the end. Their friendship was refreshing to and with. I’m usually not into the live at first sight either, but I thought it was done well with all the topics Evan and Fran went through at the ball.

Have you ever wished that some amazing chance might come along and change your life?
That’s exactly the situation Fran Cooper – the heroine of Lindsey Kelk’s newest romance wishes for, and days later, it’s happening. Suddenly she goes from jobless and stuck, to employed as the assistant to a famous singer – headed off to an exotic location with life-changing results.
I tried so hard to wait on reading this one, until closer to the release date (January 18, 2022 for those of us in the States) – but it kept calling my name. So, needless to say I rushed headlong in to reading it and have no regrets, because once again Lindsey Kelk has delivered a perfect example of warm, escapist romantic comedy. Her books never fail to cheer me up, and always feature characters I can relate to and root for. She has quickly become one of my go to authors, and a great comfort read.
I loved watching Fran’s ‘Cinderella’ story unfold – filled with plenty of all too relatable mishaps along the way. I was laughing and the ending left me with a smile on my face. I also enjoy a happy ending the way this one spun out. I cannot wait to see what Lindsey comes out with next.
In the meantime, if you’re looking to escape or need some lighthearted, hijinksy romcom cheer in your life – look no further. 😊

I really enjoyed this book. It was well paced and the characters were fully formed. I would enjoy reading other work by this author in the future.
3/5 ⭐️’s
Sadly this one just wasn’t for me. I really liked the premise of this book and the cinderella quality to it, but I just had a hard time connecting with it overall.
I really loved Fran and her growth throughout the story was 10/10, but I think everything just moved a little too slowly for me and I had a hard time staying interested. The main plot line revolves around the ball mentioned in the book blurb, but we really don’t even get that until about halfway through the book. When we did get to the main event, it was really well done and had some of my favorite scenes, but everything leading up to it just felt so drawn out.
I think I was also expecting this to be more of a romance read, but it felt more like a self discovery journey instead and that’s probably why I couldn’t quite connect with it.
Although this one didn’t hit the mark for me, I did really enjoy the author’s writing style and I enjoyed how light and sweet it was!
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review!
An assistant who is struggling with her current relationship, a high maintenance singer slated to sing at a star studded event and the adventures that take place that lead the assistant to making a lot of personal and professional decisions in her life

Lindsey Kelk was a new to me author. I had seen her books, but had never had the pleasure of reading any. I will definitely be rectifying that immediately! This book was all things that I love. It starts off in the UK and takes the reader on quite the adventure! The characters, both main and supporting, were so easy to get lost in. The story moved at the perfect pace and was such a fun read. I found myself laughing out loud on several occasions and thoroughly enjoyed this book. I will definitely be working my way through Lindsey Kelk’s back catalog!

Many thanks to @netgalley and @harpercollins360 for providing me with this ARC
A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
After Francesca Cooper takes on being a PA for a mysterious celebrity for a week (after signing an NDA and going through an extensive interview and everything), her life changes forever.
Fran is such a strong lead, and I loved her character. And the banter between Fran and Evan… I JUST CANNOT. This book had me bursting out laughing, smiling like a madwoman, and clutching my hands to my heart. Definitely gave off Cinderella vibes, and how could you go wrong with a classic like that?! I think I enjoyed it even more because I’ve been reading so many thrillers back-to-back in honor of Halloween, so this lighthearted read was just perfect for me!
This was my first book from Lindsey Kelk, but it definitely won’t be my last. Will definitely be purchasing this book when it comes out on January 18, 2022!
Favorite quote:
“She probably knew my favourite Disney film, when I lost my virginity, and how many times a day I checked Britney Spears’s Instagram. Not that I was obsessed or anything, I just liked to make sure she was OK.”
Made me laugh so hard for some reason 😂
This book in 3 words: Lovely. Personable. Enchanting.
I went into this one blind and it was such a treat. A friendly-Cinderella-meets-2021 vibe and I'm here for it. The core of this book is about relationships -- romantic, platonic, and the one you have with yourself.
This book is classic escapism...takes you away to a very likeable main character, Fran. I liked watching her navigate a challenging job while realizing what would actually make her happy. I do think this book ventures a little outside of a typical romance trope but it still fits nicely in the genre.
This is my second book by Lindsey Kelk and I find her writing style and characterization to be comforting. Her books feel like a warm blanket you can drape heavily around your shoulders and just sink into.
What a fun read! Fran is in a dead-end engagement and could use a fresh start. Thanks to a mysterious job, she ends up getting exactly that! Loved the setting- especially the Crystal Ball! Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for the ARC.
On a Night Like This is sort of a Cinderella story for thirtysomethings. I expected more romance but was pleasantly surprised to spend more time with Fran as she grew, developed new friendships and deepened old ones, and started putting herself first. This book is one I looked forward to escaping to, with its positive message and just enough fun celebrity glitz.
