- Rating: 4/5
- Trigger warnings: death, murder, child harm, drug use, alcohol.
- Blurb: What would you do if there was a serial killer on the loose, and they chose your wife to be their communication to the police? This tells the story of a family’s struggle and fear while dealing with the ‘Crucifix Killer’.
- Read if: You enjoy fast paced books, plot twists, true crime.
- Avoid if: You aren’t okay with mild/moderate child harm, drug use, murder.
- Favorite Quote: “She could only imagine what Ned’s mum had put up with. The moodiness, the tears, the pathetic, heartbroken, lovelorn wet blanket of a son.” I don’t know why but calling him a wet blanket made me giggle.
- Words I learned: Intransigence. Vertiginous. Scree. Prosaic.
- Final thoughts: This thriller kept me on the edge of my seat. It was a super fast paced book, which I love in thrillers. I guessed the twist a page before it happened, but it was so fun going through theories in my head. This was my first Alex Lake book, but certainly won’t be my last. I’m excited to read more by them!

Big fan of the author, this is not my favorite Alex Lake. It was enjoyable to read yet predictable with plot holes that slightly affected my reading experience.
Any novel with fun twists and turns makes me relatively happy.
A solid mystery thriller for fans of this author.
2.5 stars rounded up. Thank you for the ARC!

I had so much fun reading this one! It’s a bit of a chunky monkey but the chapters are short and the pacing kept me flipping the pages until the end. Tom and Alice are on the struggle bus with their new baby who doesn’t sleep through the night. They’re working as a team but the lack of sleep is getting to Tom. Alice is running on adrenaline as the lead reporter on a local serial killer story that is terrorizing their town. As Alice gets more personal in her stories, the serial killer takes an interest in her. Tom is beside himself, between the sleep deprivation and his fear for his family’s safety, he begins to spiral. A dangerous game of cat and mouse develops, will the police catch this evil killer before the killer takes his revenge on Alice? I expected a lot from this book since I have enjoyed others by Alex Lake, but unfortunately I was disappointed. Parts were good where I was surprised by twists and turns, but overall the story did not grab me.

I just love Alex Lake and this was a highly anticipated read for me. It drug out a little too much for my typical liking, but overall it was a good story.

What a book! Excellent characters and writing. The story itself was a little predictable, but....I had no idea how it would all go together. It all fit perfectly. I love a book that ties up all the loose ends.
Thank you netgalley, the publisher and the amazing author for the chance to read this advanced copy.

This is my first foray into reading Alex Lake, and while parts of the thriller were predictable, I found it to be a quick, enjoyable read overall.
There were definitely some plot holes, but none that took away a lot from the overall twists and turns.
A solid mystery thriller!
Thankful for the ARC!

Good story, scary and spooky but not too much.

Thank you NetGalley for providing this book for an honest review. I have read other book by Alex Lake and have enjoyed all the books I have read. This book will not disappoint. The plot will hook you from the beginning.
Tom and Alice Sark are happily married with a beautiful baby girl, Joanna. Joanna starts getting bruises on her arms and legs but no one can figure out where they are coming from. Both parents are exhausted from lack of sleep since they are up with the baby all night, every night. Alice is a journalist who is writing about a serial killer in town that is targeting her. There are many twists, turns and secrets throughout this book. I did guess some of them before they were revealed. Even if you do happen to figure it out you will enjoy this book.

Oh boy, where to start? It's hard for me to read a book about a female serial killer. They seem to be such a rare breed. But not out of the question. Which is just enough room for me to fit this one into. I enjoyed pretty much everything the author did here except dialogue. Characters, motivation, plot, unfolding of events and twists, relationships, psyche, all of it on point. But when the characters opened their mouth (via quotation marks of course) it was like reading YA. This so clearly would have been 5 stars for me but dialogue and the interaction between characters is so important that the poor execution of it really affected my overall enjoyment. Still recommend. Definitely recommend. Thank you to Netgalley/HarperCollins for the advanced copy.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of Ready or Not by Alex Lake.

Tom and Alice and their little baby are a happy family, at least on the outside. But Alice's job is stressful, and their baby will not stop crying, despite all of their efforts. And now their baby is starting to turn up with suspicious bruises. To top it all off, Alice is a journalist covering a terrifying serial killer, putting the whole family in danger.

Oh my goodness. It took me a second to piece the whole story together, but once I was hooked, I was HOOKED. I do with the author took a biiiiit longer to drop the major bomb on the story, but otherwise, a very wild ride with sharp turns.

Alice is an investigative reporter. She is chasing after a serial killer and he may be chasing her. This book had my heart beating so fast. The book is alittle creepy with the characters feeling as if they are being watched and stalked by a serial killer. It gets even more sinister after he picks out his next family. The torturous machinations of the author make this book a definite keeper. Read it. It's amazing.

Thank you netgalley and publisher for opportunity to read and give my honest review on this arc.

This was definitely a quick read and intriguing storyline. However it did seem pretty obvious early on what the twist was going to be,.. very early on. The characters were believable however I couldn’t stand the main character and hope she behaved, but at least I was invested, right?

I’m a fan of this author, but this one was just ok to me. It was a little too easy to guess the twists and turns. The book was still well written, just not enough of a thrill with the easy plot.

This one hooked me from the first couple chapters. A journalist gets assigned to a case on a serial killer. Instantly intriguing. I strapped in for the surely wild and spooky ride ahead.

There were some unfortunate plot holes and a few of the characters were rather weak, especially the serial killer which really took from this story. Still, I found myself enjoying the twists and questioning the outcome. All in all, a decent read.

A family that has it all. A wife who is investigating a serial killer who just might decide to set their sites in her and her perfect family now. The end will definitely have you reeling a little. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
