Thank you Netgalley and Little, Brown Books for allowing me to read and review this title! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Belladonna is a highly anticipated release of mine and it did not disappoint! Signa Farrow lost her parents when she was a baby and has been passed along different relatives and unfortunate guardians, some taking advantage of the fact that Signa will be inheriting a large sum of money when she turns twenty. Throughout the years she has been starved of love, food, and companionship. When an opportunity arises to leave her current household, she leaves, not knowing she would have to solve a murder case and keep one of her cousins from dying the same death. Signa is special in the way where she can see spirits and converse with them. Death follows where ever she goes and many people in society believe she is cursed.
I highly recommend checking this book out if you love the Kingdom of the Wicked series by Kerri Maniscalco and Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone. Belladonna is a gorgeously written story with a gothic romantic setting. I would categorize this book as being more of an upper-YA read. Signa and other main characters like Blythe, Percy, and Sylas are 19-25 years old and the book has a great amount of romantic tension and spicy scenes. I absolutely love Signa as a main character! I love her stubborn determination to solve the murder of her aunt and to prevent any harm coming for her cousins. Signa tries to follow the societal rules of being a woman in a period where women didn't have a lot of rights and were overlooked whenever men were around.
I adore Signa and Death's push and pull relationship and the tension between them was honestly spot on. I'm looking forward to learning more about Death's realm and reading about Signa exploring her reaper powers. There were many "aha!" moments, same with "I KNEW IT!" and trying to figure out who the imposter is was a lot of fun. I greatly enjoyed this book and now I'm sad I have to wait about a year or so until the sequel, Foxglove, comes out.
5 stars
Sigma Farrow is a girl well familiar with death. She has been raised by a number of guardians who have died while caring for her. She is now with her only living relatives, the Hawthornes. They, too, might meet the same end as Signma's other guardians if she does not do something about it. Enter: Death with an alliance. I loved this book. I am a huge fan of gothic settings and Adalyn Grace does an amazing job of sucking the reader into the story. I couldn't put this book down! It is absolutely beautiful. Go preorder it! Now!
I adored this book so much. Very reminiscent to crimson peak and the secret garden. I couldn’t put it down. I loved Signa so much and can’t wait for the sequel!

I have not gotten through a book so quickly in ages! The GRIP the first chapter had on me was unreal and it never let up. The atmosphere, the mystery, the ROMANCE. Ugh. Amazing. I can’t believe I now have to wait so long for the sequel!
I'm so grateful to have received an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This story was absolutely amazing. The opening scene will leave your jaw dropping and hooks you into the story with gusto. I could not read it quick enough, but at the same time did not want it to end. This is an upper YA, gothic infused, murder mystery-who done it type of story. I loved Death as one of the main characters (and love interest) plus the mystery that surrounded the main character Signa regarding her curse and/or powers that enables her to see spirits and commune with Death himself.
In true Adalyn style, she combines dark and grotesque elements with beauty throughout her world and a delightful dash of humor. The world building was so atmospheric and a complete vibe that I adored! A full range of characters, which will keep you guessing until the very end of who done it and what exact secrets everyone holds - for there are many! And not to mention the passion and steam will leave the reader swooning and yearning for a re-read after closing the final page.
I feel a bit like Signa myself. Blessed to be able to read an early copy, yet cursed because I must now wait even longer for the sequel Foxglove. Trust me when I say, pre-order this book friends - you will love it!!
A girl who cannot die and is cursed to see Death is given a new mystery to solve in order to find the potential murderer who is trying to kill her new family. Signa Farrow has always had the ability to see Death and to survive death. No matter how many times she has tried to kill herself… she just can’t die. Orphaned as a baby she has spent the last 19 years of her life moving from guardian to guardian, whose only interest is in her wealth. When Signa arrives at her last remaining relatives, the Hawthornes she discovers a mystery brewing. The Hawthornes are an eccentric group of people who live at Thorn Manor. Elijah, the patriarch of the family is mourning the loss of his dead wife and throws parties to hide it while his son Percy is struggling to just maintain the family’s reputation, and the daughter Blythe is suffering from the same mysterious illness that killed her mother. When Death begins talking to Signa more and offering to help her with her mysterious abilities… she begins to find that maybe she isn’t as alone as she thought and that maybe Death isn’t the enemy she thought him out to be. Soon they come together to solve the mystery of Thorn manor before more of Signa’s relatives die… and maybe Signa might discover who she really is and what it means to be able to be so close to Death. This was a beautiful gothic romance mixed in with a murder mystery. I had so much fun reading this book and AM JUST SO EXCITED FOR THE NEXT ONE ALREADY!!! I adored how strong Signa was, despite everything that has happened to her, she was determined to protect those she loved and she is so caring. Death, now I swooned for Death. Sign me up. I loved their dynamic so much, definitely my favorite trope of Enemies-to-Lovers mixed in with two star crossed lovers with a splash of “I hate you but i need your help” trope. Seriously this book was just perfection. Signa and Death? i absolutely need more of these two together. I love their playful and teasing banter and how they love. So if I haven’t gotten it across enough, yes please read this beautiful book!
