Lucy diamond at her best. A story of lost love and a unplanned pregnancy and an 18 year old wanting to find her father. I loved how Lara became a driving instructor and then finally she got to write and follow her dream and the ending was perfect. A must read
Many thanks to NetGalley/publisher/author for this advanced copy!
I have read all of Lucy Diamond's book and when I saw this, I just had to get it.
Lara has raised her daughter Eliza, single-handedly for the past 18 years. Eliza is now wanting to find out who her father is and try to connect with him. This could change their lives forever, but will it be for the better?
Another fabulous and easy-going read from Lucy diamond. Very plot-driven with fantastic and easily liked characters, the story is deep enough to keep you eager to know more.
.
I love the different POV, and that you get to see how Eliza, Laura, and Ben all feel about what is happening.. the book for me also felt quite realistic as the scenarios from the book could easily happen in real life.
The dialogue was easy to follow, and the book is based on three different locations (one of which is my favorite place!)
Overall, another fantastic read and I cannot wait for it to come out so I can recommend this to others!
Thank you Netgalley and Quercus Books for the opportunity to review. What a fantastic book. I love Lucy Diamond and she didnt disappoint. Lovely book to start the new year off with....
What a lovely read, great storyline, charecters easy to get to know, really enjoyed, just what's needed at the minute in this funny world, a lovely book
Oh how I did love this book and I always enjoy a book by Lucy Diamond. The story is based in places that I know so well, Cambridge, Scarborough and New York which made it all the more special as they are places that I know so well.
Lara meets the love of her life one evening in New York City and just as she thought that everything was falling into place, he was gone. However, there was one reminder of that night, Lara's daughter, Eliza. Eliza starts to want to know more about her father when she turns 18 and Lara is reluctant to discuss to begin with. However. Eliza decides to take matters into her own hands and this results in a road trip from Scarborough to Cambridge to find Ben.
This story is split into Lara's life, Ben's and Eliza's and how their lives become intertwined as they face the past, the missed opportunities and how they can change the future. You can tell that Lara and Ben were made for each other but can they put the past behind them and move forward.
This is a really good read, a feel good book and it leaves you thinking that Anything Could Happen!
Lara has raised her daughter as a single mother, but when Eliza turns 18 and seems determined to find her father, how will their lives change?
Another great book by Lucy Diamond; it's easy to follow, you get attached to the characters (to the point where I actually felt like they were friends!) and the plot has enough bumps that keep you interested without being confused. It's an easy read, longer than some chick-lit but a nice non-taxing read for this time of year. It's lovely to see Lara rediscover herself and to see how important friendships are in adulthood. Every character is realistic and I think I'd read further books about any of them - although none are particularly different in this novel, I think that gives it more universal appeal.
One of my favourite parts of this book is the epilogue which gives you the glimpse into how their life worked out - what all good romance novels need!
An engaging story with plenty of charm, incorporating a brief encounter, a coming of age, a mid-life crisis, a lot of “what could have beens”, a sprinkling of eccentric extended family members, seasoned with a bit of New York. Ben, Lara and Eliza were interesting characters, each coming to terms with their own realities and extremely believable and relatable. Not the most memorable story I’ve read all year, but enjoyable and undemanding.
I have read quite a few Lucy Diamond books and enjoyed them all this one was just the same I really enjoyed reading it
Ben and Lara meet in New York City one night sparks fly and arrange a second date but fate intervenes and they don’t meet
Eighteen years later Eliza Lara’s daughter sets of to find her real dad which a never ends in a good way!
But in this case Ben has missed out on fatherhood and obviously knows nothing of Eliza and although extremely shocked he is also delighted
Fast forward to another trip to New York and this time it’s all three of them but Eliza seems to think her parents will have a happy ever after unfortunately her parents haven’t got that memo as they are still trying to sort out their own lives
Will Ben and Lara fall back in love again?
A cute premise with meet-cutes spilling out of every page; this was a sweet, quick little read which I thoroughly enjoyed. Who doesn’t love a New York love story?!
So, a new Lucy Diamond would be a treat, right? Well, yes or no. I started reading the book hoping for a great, interesting story but the more I read, the slower and slower and slower and also reptitive it became, so much that I found myself skim - reading the last third - even though it probably contained the most important information and resolutions. But it wasn't able to keep my attention anymore - sadly.
The characters were lovely described but nothing made them unforgettable to be honest. They were your average, likeable characters - except for Kirsten which I immediately disliked and my feelings towards her didn't change. She was always unhappy, always blamed other people and she herself was not the most loyal, adorable woman she thought she is. They were realistic and relatable. The plot was super easy to follow with some twists and turns on the way but also the feeling of predictability and the happy end was only a question of time - however, this time, it didn't bother me, I read Lucy Diamond's books because I want this happy end!
Nevertheless, it was a readable, easy story about second chances and missed opportunities and what ifs. Story about family relationships and bonds, lovely and in a very realistic way exploring the relationship between mother and daughter. It was heart - warming but altogether it dragged on and the pace was very slow. I liked how the author has mixed the happy moments with the more serious ones and with things not always ending in a good way but with the feeling that, whatever happens, everything will be positively sorted out. Lucy Diamonds handles all the ssues with care and gentleness and explores the feelings and emotions of the characters - sometimes too much. But altogether it was a nice enough, engaging read from the gem that is Lucy Diamond.
Lara and Ben met at 18 in New York. Lara returned home with more than she expected.
Eliza is 18 and is desperate to find her dad and about her past.
The man who she thought was her dad isn't and she sets off to attempt to find him.
A book with twists and turns when you don't expect them
Lucy diamond didn't disappoint.
The first few pages I wasn’t sure I was going to like Eliza at all! But that soon changed and I found myself really hoping she got everything she wanted from life.
I great book which kept me wanting more even after it finished.
This is my first book I’ve read of Lucy Diamond and I absolutely loved it.
The story starts in New York were two young people meet (Lara and Ben) and fall in love. in one night. Then due to an unfortunate event they don’t meet up again for 19 years. Kirsten (Bens wife) Eliza (Lara’s daughter) join the book and it opens up the story of love lost and new love found.. I found myself devouring this book passionately as I rooted for the ill fated lovers.
Lucy Diamond is a born writer; every time I start one of her books I step straight into the world she has penned. No stuttering starts or feeling that each character needs an introduction, you feel like you already know these people and the story just flows right from the first page. This latest book 'Anything Could Happen' is no exception.
Single mum Lara and daughter Eliza have always been close - it's just been the two of them for almost as long as Eliza can remember. Almost - but at one point there was also her dad Steve who left them when Eliza was very young. Lara has noticed that since Eliza approached her 18th birthday she has become quite an angry individual - but all teenagers do at one stage or another don't they? A phase they go through? This thought prompts Lara to consider her own life story, back to the time when she travelled to New York for work with all the hopes and promises that held. And then the reality which followed.
The characters in this story are very real and believable throughout, maybe the storyline could be seen as perhaps a little predictable by some but it sat well with me. The situation the characters find themselves in is presented from each person's perspective and their feelings are expressed to the reader in an honest manner. The subject matter could have led the author to make a couple of the characters quite bitter and nasty but I was pleased to see that, although this was an option which was lightly suggested at some points, the characters were better, more self-respecting than that. I don't feel the book would have worked as well had their reactions been different.
I would have loved to be able to sit and read this book in one sitting but sadly this wasn't an option in the run up to Christmas. It is a book which leaves you with that feel-good glow that a good family brings, even if your family set up is not quite the traditional one.
Lara and Ben met in New York City and know they were right for each other, so much so that they spend the night together. They arrange to meet later in the day but unfortunately things occur so it doesn't happen ( won't say more as it will spoil the story )
Roll on 18 years and Lara has a daughter Eliza who turns out to be Ben's daughter who she decides she wants to meet immediately regardless of the consequences
A lovely story, a will they won't they ending
Lucy Diamond books are a joy to read and this one was no different.
Lara and Ben met a lifetime ago in New York when they were young and carefree. They only spent one night together but it was enough to highlight to them that there was something special between them and they arranged to meet again that very night. Alas fate stepped in and it wasn’t to be.
Some 18 years later and Lara and her daughter Eliza live alone. Lara has given up on the dreams she had as a carefree young woman and makes a living as a driving instructor. When Eliza discovers that the man she thought of as her father her whole life is indeed not her father Lara has some explaining to do. This leads to a road trip to see Ben and break the news to him that the one night in New York changed their lives more than could be imagined.
A fantastic read which I highly recommend. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Thank you so much Netgalley and Quercus Books for the gifted digital ARC in exchange for my honest review!
This was a really fast paced read and the story caught my attention from the beginning, keeping me intrigued throughout the whole book.
I liked that the characters were well developed and had a little bit of a background story.
I liked that the story was told in the third person’s POV, the narrator offering a clear perspective of each of the characters' feelings and thoughts.
I loved that almost everyone was keeping a secret and I enjoyed the family drama portrayed in this book. Even though the stories are very different, this book gave me major Malibu Rising and Little Fires Everywhere vibes. If you’ve read and loved any of those, I recommend picking this one up too.
Overall, this book was a mix of sweet, funny and intriguing moments and I really enjoyed it. I think maybe something more surprising and emotional could have happened as a climax point and I would have loved it even more but it was a great read nonetheless.
On my Instagram blog, I rated it 4.5 stars, but here I decided to round it up as it was a very enjoyable read!
A nice read . Mostly about missed and chance encounters . Lara is living with her daughter in Scarborough , her daughter's father is not part of their lives. When she tells her daughter about how she was conceived , her daughter sets about finding the man.
Parts of the book ring true, other parts less so, but it is mostly a good story . Good descriptions, on the whole, of people. Events and storyline a little predictable.
Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was a delight. I really enjoyed the different points of view that told the story, and while I enjoyed it all along the way, the ending had my heart singing. It was not what I expected at all and that made it even more lovely.
Well written and hugely relatable. Not to mention, lots of fun. I have not read any other Lucy Diamond books but will go in search of them now.
Best book from Lucy Diamond yet!!! This latest is absolutely brilliant, I loved it, and totally deserves a 5 star rating! This had me guessing right to the end.
Lara and Ben meet as brits in New York, but the chance meeting is meaningful for both of them.
Eighteen years later, their lives have changed in different ways, and they get to meet again. No spoilers here!!
The story weaves quite brilliantly around these great characters and their families, with all their beauty and human flaws. Real relationship and family issues written with sensitivity and insight.
Really enjoyed this and can highly recommend it!
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read early.
