I was so excited to pick up where we left off with Stepping Stones. Jen's continuing to navigate her new life with her two stepsisters, Andy, and Reese, all while living on Peapod Farm. This is a perfect insight into growing up and trying to find yourself. The horrible and wonderful changes that happen, and how differently they effect everyone. It's so perfectly illustrated (of course it is!) and Lucy Knisley creates a great world with compelling characters.
I really enjoyed this sampler for Apple Crush and I can't wait to read the rest! Fans of Stepping Stones will not be disappointed. This should definitely be read after Stepping Stones. I will definitely be recommending this title to my younger teen graphic novel fans once it is published.
Really enjoyed “Stepping Stones” and was excited to see the sequel. It is fabulous to get reacquainted with these very relatable characters. Artwork, layout, and storyline blend seamlessly. My hope is that the publisher includes a volume number on the spine to aid readers with chronology order because this definitely should be read after “Stepping Stones.”
I don’t read a ton of graphic novels, but the art style of this one really drew me to it. It is a story about living with change and I definitely think young readers will connect with the characters. The dialog was very accessible and the art style was easy to follow. A great young graphic novel. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review!
I love Lucy Knisley's work. I like the continuation of these characters and we see the different changes Jen is going through with starting her new school in the country.
Can't wait to read the whole graphic novel when it comes out.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC!
A lovely graphic novel that has a great plot and artwork! I will definitely be sharing this with my students as they are in love with great stories!
This was adorable! It had similar vibes to Pumpkin Heads by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks, and the autumn vibes are perfect. I wish I could read more right now, but the sampler really drew me in. I love the farm imagery and found both girls to be very relatable. Right now I'm wondering if it will turn out to be queer. But it seems like a fun, sweet book that I'll reccomend to Raina Telgemeier fans. I can't wait until the full book is released so I can read it and add it to our library collection.
I only write reviews on my GoodReads page for books that I've completed or put down. After reading this sampler, I definitely want to finish it. That's when my official review will go up online.
I enjoyed this short beginning of Apple Crush. It's definitely a continuation of Stepping Stones by Lucy Knisley, but I don't think you need to have read it before reading the second book. The main character is looking forward to the spookiness of Halloween while working at a pumpkin patch while freaking out about starting a new school. So far, there's an equal part of good to even out the anxiety and frustrations of the bad for Jen.
I love Knisley's art style. It works so well for middle grade readers.
The sample I got of this title was only 36 pages, but it left me wanting more! I love the art and the colors, and the introduction I got to the characters was fun! I can’t wait to read the rest of it. In the meantime, I will check out Stepping Stones!
I was given an advanced reader's copy via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own
Just got a 36 page sample of this - I love it so far! I can’t wait to read the rest.
Thanks to NetGalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Jen is back in this sequel to Stepping Stones. Now that she has adjusted to life on the farm, she is now starting a new school and new job at the pumpkin patch. Trouble starts to arise with her stepsister’s new crush.
Knisley does a great job of creating realistic characters along with fun illustrations to make yet another compelling read. This sample made me excited to see how this story and the rest of the series plays out.
Jen and Andy are back in their next adventure. The sample I received from NetGalley was only 36 pages, but it left me wanting more. Jen is worried about starting classes at her new school. Andy has a crush on a boy that works at the pumpkin patch.
The sample I was provided for this book looks very promising. The story picks up in Fall, somewhere in late September/early October, and the girls are helping out in a pumpkin patch on their neighbor's farm. Jen is nervous about starting school and Andy is more focused on boys and romance. I like the story so far and I'm interested in reading the rest. I gave it 3 stars for what I've seen so far and may give another star once I read the whole book.
