Three young women, all with cause to be AFRAID. Short stories connected by the MC's enrollment in the St Cecilia's boarding school. Three authors who are connected on my auto TBR list. I read all three stories in one sitting and will now have to wait for the next books. 5 easy stars.
Three authors and three short stories of three women who are loosely connected from a girls school in Europe. Like this book overall, and would recommend it. I have read several books by Ms. Jackson and Ms. Ivy, but Ms. Childs was a new author. Good mysteries.
This was an amazing book, all stories were very interesting. Very suspenseful and I enjoyed and I highly recommend it!
I had hoped to like this book. I have been enjoying suspense books a lot as of late. SadlyAfriad didn't keep my attention. It was all a little too slow for me. I had to add this book to my DNF list. I do hope that others will enjoy and love this book. It just was not for me.
I wanted to read this book based on the authors, and I'm so glad I did. These are three short stories, each by one of the authors. They are loosely linked to each other but each is told from a different point of view. It was a fast and easy read.
Afraid is an excellent read comprising of three short stories written by fantastic authors. We begin with "Retribution" by Lisa Jackson with Lucy Champagne's story, followed by "Ghosts" by Alexandra Ivy focusing on Rayne Taylor's story and finally with "Alone" by Lisa Childs shedding light on Erin MacDonald's story. Lucy, Rayne and Lisa have a shared past at St Cecelia's School for girls in Salzburg, Austria, which was the epicentre of many emotions such as angst, jealousy, anger, evil, tragedy, and love and secrets. I finished this book in one sitting. Retribution is a fantastic story with a shocking twist; Ghosts has a haunted and sad theme amidst nostalgia and second chances. Alone is infused with puzzle pieces, tragedy, new beginnings and hope. Each story is full of mystery, suspense and a dash of romance. The stories flow exceptionally well, and the authors have done a fantastic job. A five-star read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for giving me a review copy. This honest review is left voluntarily.
This novella contains three stories by three different authors. Each of the stories ties into each other. This is a collection of three friends from a girls school and the tragic circumstances that brought each of them together. It was very well written with a lot of twists and turns. I really enjoyed it a lot.
I can honestly say I am not always the biggest fan of anthologies, but this one had some nice tie-ins and the thrill in each on was fascinating. Each of the stories was written by a different author but the thread that pulled them all together was the school that the Heroine’s attended where they formed friendships and dealt with terrifying experiences each in their own way. I enjoyed each of the stories, though I wish they’d had a bit more of the romance angle in them. Each lady met their knight in their story and they found love, but the focus was definitely on the suspense and defeating the bad guy. My favorite by far was Erin and Rafe’s story, but I enjoyed each of them for their individual stories as well as how they all tied in to one another. I love anything written by Alexandra Ivy of course which is why I grabbed this anthology up and look forward to more of her suspense novels for sure. If you are looking for something to give you a little thrill on a dark stormy night you can’t go wrong with these short stories.
These three intertwined stories set in a boarding school were a quick one-day read. But just because they were shorter, it doesn't mean they weren't just as enthralling. Lisa Jackson, Alexandra Ivy and Lisa Childs are all authors who know how to give and take. Give well rounded and thought out stories, but take every guess you have and twist it to another direction.
Thank you NetGalley for providing this copy. The opinion expressed in this review is solely my own.
I was not a fan of the layout of this book. I was worried it would be confusing based off of the synopsis, but then it is mostly three short stories. I felt like each of the stories was very underwhelming, Also, with them being short we didn't have time to learn about the characters to like or appreciate them,
This was a great read, I read it in one sitting as couldn’t put it down at all, kept me gripped from beginning to end ..
Three short, loosely connected novellos. Good stories, good characters and all scary but different. Well known authors who know how to spin a story.
As all of these three authors are familiar and loved by me, this book was an automatic choice for me. While normally I don't read a lot of novellas, they were just the right size for a quick read late at night when I didn't want to be up till 4 AM finishing a suspense novel that would not let me sleep until resolving "who dun it" before being able to sleep. I loved the fact that these books were loosely connected yet stood alone. The only fault was that they ended way to quick. Each novella would have been a fabulous full length novel as they kept me quessing up until the end.
Three wonderful short stories by three wonderful authors all of whom have characters who were former students at an elite boarding school for the daughters of the rich and famous. I enjoyed all of the fast paced, suspenseful stories.
Scary good. All the were well written, all three stories were for, nice characters with a nice tie in to each other.
Afraid by Lisa Jackson, Alexandra Ivy, and Lisa Childs is a compilation of three riveting stories. by three great authors. The individual stories are separate but connected. Very well written and enjoyable.
This is 3 different stories about girls that attended St Cecillia's, a girls school in Austria. I liked each mystery and liked how they tied together. Each story was short, but really good. Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy to review and post my own opinion.
Lisa Jackson is an auto-buy author for me and I love thrillers that take place around a school setting! The other two authors are new to me but I will be looking up their work!
Each story is equally intriguing and centers around a strong female character who is forced to revisit the past and, consequently, disturbs old ghosts. The stories feature strong plots with endangering twists. Just over 100 pages each, these novellas are original and entertaining reads..
Thank you, Partner @bibliolifestyle @kensingtonbooks for my gifted copy. My thoughts are my own.
Three stories by three authors flow seamlessly to create one suspenseful novel. Each story follows one female as they confront the present but also their past, revisiting the events of 25 years ago. The pasts of all three women are linked due to their time at St. Cecilia's boarding school. Lucy, Rayne, and Erin are able to come to terms with their past and move forward. #afraid #netgalley
Alexandra Ivy writes one of the three stories in the book. She wrote a nifty little story that takes this book to a must-buy, because readers must read her story. Ivy gets the middle story, so why did I start here? It’s the best! Creepy a la Ivy style, novella length (sadly).
I’m not sure what has happened to Lisa Jackson. I feel certain I read Jackson in the past, but maybe not. Regardless, her writing is difficult to read because I can’t make any emotional connection. Granted, she is setting up the story of St. Cecilia’s School and that is probably hard to do in a short story.
Childs story is better, and brings the St. Cecilia story to it’s conclusion. I’ve never read this author, and I had no idea what to expect. I’m reserving judgment. This wasn’t my type, but hard to tell to tell from a novella sometimes.
