Miss Pearly is ill and her daighers- Maxine, Stella, Star, and Leslie- find themselves on the hot seat when she asks that they finally reveal their secrets and make up with one another. Why does Maxine have an issue with Leslie? Maxine is, to put it mildly, a bit judge. Why do Stella and Star, who are twins, in conflict? Some of the secrets won't come as a surprise but Billingsley has a way with domestic drama. This is a family of women who find their ways back to one another. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.
This author never stops amazing me. I read this book in two settings. This book was like food for the soul. It is about secrets and the toll they can take. It is also a book about forgiveness. I highly recommend this book. It may make you think back on your life and various situations you may have dealt with or experiencing. This book will stick with me for a long time. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the arc of this book. Receiving the book in this manner had no bearing on this review. Kudos to the author.
This is a deep and touching story of four sisters who come together to support their mother in a health emergency. It can be tough to read because there is a lot of sorrow and pain in their lives and their relationships, but it's well written and the characters are fully developed.
Family secrets abound in this book! The complex family relationships will likely be relatable to many readers. The setting is wonderful, and the author makes the reader truly feel a part of the story. This would make a great option for a book club discussion.
Miss Pearly is sick and wants her four daughters to return home and air out all their dirty laundry. Each sister is battling something from the past and Maxine, Leslie, Star and Stella all struggle to gain their own healing, instead choosing to hold on to the past. I loved the dynamics of the sister and the way the writer illustrated their pain and what was plaguing them. I also thought that the book did such an amazing job at illustrating the power of the matriarch in a family.
Secrets, shame, close-minded, and unhappiness are just some of the subjects that are addressed in Miss Pearly's Girls. Miss Pearly has been blessed with four daughters are as different as sisters can be. Four sisters who rarely get together are "called" home. Once they are all back in their small town, their lives are turned upside down. In true form, Ms. ReShonda Tate Billingsley does not disappoint. I would love to visit with Miss Pearly's girls again.
Four angry, jealous sisters return home to Arkansas when their mother is ill. She begs them to air out all the secrets they have been hiding and forgive and love each other. Several are unsure what she means. Throughout the novel we learn why Maxine has been mean to Leslie and what caused the twins to be estranged. An excellent look at family dynamics and how the past influences the present and the future.
Although I have no sisters, I a,ways enjoy reading stories about sisters. The Bell sisters are reunited in Arkansas, after years of estrangement. Their mother. Pearly, is terminally ill. The sisters harbor some deep, intense secrets that come to light during the course of the story. They shed light on what led to the sisters not talking for years. I liked the story. My favorite character was actually Lincoln. Healing cannot begin until all the ick is out. These sisters learn family is stronger than the secrets.

Sisters and secrets go hand and hand. Often they share secrets with each other. This set of sisters, hid their secrets. Ms. Pearly wants them to confide in each other and heal wounds from their lives. Glory is calling and the sisters have choices to make.
I cannot wait to see this on the big screen. It will be fantastic as the emotions evoked by the book will translate well on the big screen.
Miss Pearly is sick and all she wishes is for her four daughters to return home and reunite. But the Bell ladies are each battling a past secret that is a deterrent to their reunion. Maxine, Leslie, Star and Stella must work through each of their past, their secrets and decide whether if holding onto past pain is more important than healing, than their future as a family.
Family dynamics come to play in this read and there was a lot to unpack in this tale. ReShonda tackled a lot of sensitive subjects with her skillful storytelling. I loved how this story focused on the power of the matriarch's love because it was their love for her that brought them home.
I think this would be a great book club read because it will open doors for a lot of discussion. So many secrets and buried truths that had to break free. Yes, lots of thought-provoking discussions.

Wow, what a good book! I love ReShonda Tate Billingsley so much. She writes incredible books about real women and their lived. A must read.
I really enjoyed this book. It reminded me a lot of Tyler Perry’s Big Happy Family but with better execution. A lot of the tropes were super familiar but she did a great job piecing the story together. I would recommend this book to someone.
As a resident of Arkansas and a fan of Reshonda Tate Billingsley, I had to grab MISS PEARLY'S GIRLS. The story centers around Pearly Bell's four daughters, Maxine, twins Stella and Star and the youngest Leslie. Upon graduating, Stella, Star and Leslie fled Smackover Arkansas for better lives, leaving behind a bed of secrets that only Mama Pearly knew about. When a health crisis lands Mama Pearly in the hospital, all the girls return home, some for the first time since leaving. Mama Pearly's dying wish is that each daughter reveal the secret she has been keeping. It's a tall task for the sisters, but they cannot deny her wish.
Reshonda Tate Billingsley never fails to deliver. She is an awesome storyteller who managed to combine heavy subject matter with a bit of humor and a lot of love. I highly recommend this one.
A story about family secrets. Miss Pearly has 4 daughters and as you read about each one of them you learn all the secrets that caused them to dislike each other. However, Miss pearly is on her death bed and want them get all the secrets out of the closet although she was the one that taught them to hide secrets!!!! Great book!!!!
Four sisters and a heck of a lot of secrets! I'm one of four sisters myself, so I was intrigued by the description of this book. Sisters have such complex relationships and Miss Pearly's girls really take the cake on this. Yet, none of it is beyond belief and that keeps the reader engaged and interested. The setting is perfection itself and as you read, you picture yourself right there beside them. There is also a lot to dissect here and it would make a great choice for a book club as it is both smooth reading and complex thoughts. I simply loved it! It's one of those books that you won't want to put down until you're done and then you'll wish for more.
