I had really liked Her Accidental Highlander Husband and was so excited to find out what happened to Evelyn after the events of that book. I did like her as a character but I got so frustrated with her for the way she treated Liam. He cared for her so much and she just kept breaking his heart. She had good reason for some of what she did, but some of the time it just felt like she was making things more difficult than they needed to be. Liam was so good with Gwennie which made me fall a little in love with him myself. I really enjoyed watching these two grow together as a couple once they started communicating more openly. Evelyn and Liam growing their family by adopting children was really sweet as well. The twist involving Liam's parentage was interesting and I definitely did not see it coming. Overall, this was a really enjoyable read. If there is another in the series it will be going on my need to read list! 3.5 stars
I enjoyed reading this book. There was plenty of excitement in it .The characters were intriguing and strong. There was a good storyline and kept me interested.
I have read all the books in this series by Hanson and honestly, this one went on for about a hundred pages too long. There were heavy themes of sexual assault, a second chance at intimacy, and what really makes a family - bond or blood. And while these were all really fascinating and well-handled (please check content warnings though) the big twist and ultimately the ending felt too predictable and easy. Liam is a sweet character and very consistent and kind in every scene and I genuinely loved seeing him grow and love so very deeply. Evelyn is nuanced and interesting but also frustrating and it felt real at first but bordered on contrived by the end of the book. Thank you to the author and publisher for my complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I think Liam and Evelyn almost covered every subject that a couple could overcome. I liked how the story was told, as well,as Liam and Evelyn’s relationship began. The writer did a great job with supplying the details to the story that describes them all with as much realism that a story could have. The action was very timid in the book, but I got the idea of what happened after the details that were given. I would have liked if the scenes were written in to give the action to this good book. The romance scenes had a little heat, but I would have liked more spicy to inferno. The drama to the story was great. I found myself getting tired of how Evelyn was acting in the end, but I was glad that Liam stayed being a true gentleman through the whole thing.
Her Forbidden Highlander Husband by Allison B. Hanson did not read as well as the other two books in the series. Evelyn's character was tough to read with her hot and cold persona, and her flagrant manipulative scenes, which in all proved tiresom and did not sit well to read. The story was a struggle to read, and by far, the first two books in the series were more well received by this reader for their characters and overall depth within the story.

This is a stunningly beautiful novel about family and some of the different forms it comes in, is created, or is made. Allison B. Hanson took me on an emotional ride through the pinning heart of our hero, to the turmoil the heroine faces, to the ups and downs of building a home and understanding the true meaning of family. Hanson's writing is accessible and easily draws the reader in, her story is well paced as she slowly builds a trusting relationship between the hero and heroine over time, and it is extremely heartwarming as dreams are realized in a wholesome and unexpected way. This novel is people by compelling and interesting characters, from the hero and heroine to their friends (from past novels), and they all are definitely at the heart of understanding what family means in this novel/series.
Liam is an orphan who was taken in by the MacKinley clan in his youth when he was found wandering the forest surrounding their keep. They immediately accepted him as their own, even though as he has grown up he has always felt a little on the outside and lost. Liam has dreamed of having a family to call his own, and since he first met the heroine, Evelyn, years ago he has been infatuated with her wanting to call her his own and protect her. Evelyn has a had some very traumatic things happen to her (back before she was rescued by Liam and his clan). Content Warnings for rape and sexual assault, Entangled Publishing is great about listing their content warnings on their website for every book if you need them. The last few years Evelyn has felt less than and tainted in the eyes of her father, so when she sees a chance to escape and make a better life for herself she approaches Liam and they elope. With this new opportunity Evelyn is able to escape her father and take with her the most precious thing she has in this life, her daughter.
I found this novel to be an emotional journey. At the start we see Liam who is longing for a family and has hopes to build that family with Evelyn. He is patient with her, always kind and accepts her daughter as his own from the start. Evelyn has a much harder journey to overcome in some ways, she is untrustworthy of men, she begins the novel really only hoping to use Liam as a means of escape, but he slowly breaks down her walls through his actions. This starts off as a slow journey of two people coming to a deeper understanding of the other. Liam has always put Evelyn on a type of pedestal but as he gets to know her, understand her needs and wants he sees her as human with flaws and insecurities, and this is what makes her beautiful and a person to be loved. Evelyn must learn to trust herself and her heart when it comes to seeing Liam as someone who has only her best interest in mind when it comes to her and her daughter. The representation of communication between Liam and Evelyn is also really fantastic. There are many times when one of the other says something wrong, they always take a beat to understand what happened in the situation and then they seek the other out to better discuss and come to an understanding with each other. I really loved this because it showed me that these two were really working to learn from each other, hear each other and build a stronger foundation for their relationship to flourish. This novel has wonderful consent and watching Liam learn and seek advice on how to make his wife feel comfortable in their growing physical relationship is just wonderful. Liam is such a kind and patient hero, he is always checking in with Evelyn, and making sure she is in control as she begins to trust her body with another. Evelyn also really grows to understand the beauty of a physical relationship that she and Liam can share and how this can open up their trust and understanding of each other.
There are so many other beautiful things I could point out in this novel, but those would be spoilers, so definitely do yourself a favor and pick up this novel if you love a story with strong family growth and understanding at the center of a love story. I would definitely highly recommend!
What a roller coaster ride of emotions. I was transported in time to a Highlander world that had my head spinning. I absolutely loved the ending! The characters were believable and the angst and happiness they endured made me feel it too. Revisiting the people in the castle was an added bonus! Book provided by NetGalley.

I really wanted to like this one bc the synopsis itself got me hooked but this was just a fine read for me. The writing was digestible though it felt disconnected and lack of emotion? — more of telling than showing, if you get what i mean. In other words, felt like i was reading a script. It just don’t evoke enough emotion in me. The plot was good though.
I think i would’ve enjoyed this a lot more had the heroine not irritate 55% of the book. Yes, she has PTSD but her reactions toward him even after the countless of times he showed kindness and compassion were just so distasteful that it ruined everything for me. But then again, i don’t think i have a say in this since i’m not a victim of sexual assault so i guess i wouldn’t know. Anyway, while I was being mad at Evelyn my heart felt bad for Liam for most of the book 😪

Liam must be a glutton for embarrassment. He gets denied a third time for the hand of the fair Evelyn, but this time she over hears and takes matters into her own hand. The marry and leave along with a little surprise. Back with Liam's clan her father tries repeatedly to steal her back to fulfill a marriage contract with a distant clan. Distant clan arrives and there's a shocker.
Evelyn didn't fall easily into love, but eventually there is a HEA. Now will David get an HEA.
Wow. This book was really not what I expected based on its description. I wasn't at all prepared, which threw everything off for me. I think that I would feel differently about the book had I known what I was getting into. The beginning of the book has a message to readers saying that they can visit the publisher's website for trigger warnings. I did. None were posted. Not a single one. There should have been many. Our heroine is dealing with the after-effects of a gang rape, including motherhood. She uses the hero who is beyond patient with her--unrealistically, gloriously romantic hero so--until they finally consummate their marriage. This is when he tells her that he's glad she's not a virgin so that he can bed her again immediately. WTH. She's not a virgin because she was GANG RAPED! If there is any revision of this book before its publication, I hope this part will be re-written. The hero is dreamy. Seing him finally get his family is lovely. This book has so much potential. A more fit description and some revisions would bump up my rating significantly.

I loved the first two, but there’s an element in this one that really threw me off. I believe I have no triggers, and I guess I just found one. Which is a bit ironic, all things considered that it’s THAT one that set me off.
Without spoiling it, I didn’t like the character. She used him utterly and entirely, and not just to get out of a bad engagement. I’m sure eventually, down the line of the book, she learns to love him for real, but the entire beginning was a turn off. And then when he’s understanding and simply tries to have a conversation, she gets sooooo defensive, and really for no reason. Like, she’s the one who brought him into this, so what does she expect?
Huge turn off, and just… No. Sorry.
The third book in the Clan MacKinlay series, Her Forbidden Highlander Husband is the love story between Evelyn Stewart and Liam MacKinlay. Liam’s most fervent desire is to marry Evelyn, and he has asked her father for Evelyn’s hand twice before the story begins. He was rejected both times, as Evelyn’s father plans to marry her to another man in a trade agreement. When Liam asks for the third time and is rejected, yet again, Evelyn takes matters into her own hands and marries Liam, unbeknownst to her father.
Now married, Evelyn and Liam travel back to his clan. However, things aren’t as perfect as Liam hoped. Evelyn brings a little one with her, and Evelyn is very traumatized by events from the past, as well as her father’s verbal abuse. She is slow to trust and wary of men. As this couple adjusts, Evelyn’s father proves that he won’t let her get away so easily. With so many obstacles in their way, will Liam and Evelyn find a happily-ever-after?
I love Liam and Evelyn’s story! Liam’s a little clueless about love and what is really meant to be married. He has these idealized notions ever since he met her, and though he cares for her, he doesn’t realize the extent of the trauma she went through. I love how supportive, understanding, and encouraging he is throughout the book. Though they are married, Liam must work hard to gain Evelyn’s trust and affection, and he shows how much he cares for her repeatedly.
Evelyn is a survivor, and she shows how strong she is throughout the story. She has suffered terribly throughout her life, and she is dealing with a lot of emotional trauma. (I would recommend checking out the content warnings before reading this book. Some of the topics, including rape, abuse, violence, and more might be triggers for some readers.) I think being with Liam helps her find peace and happiness. Other characters in the story, especially the couples from the first two books, help Evelyn on her emotional journey.
I love that the couples from the first two books have significant roles in this story. You get to see what has happened to them and how their relationships have grown and changed, which is fantastic. They are all so close to Liam, and they quickly welcome Evelyn and her child into their family. They are wise and understanding, and their support of Liam and Evelyn, as well as the overabundance of love they have for the rest of their family and clan, definitely contributes to Evelyn’s feelings of safety and acceptance. Their banter and ease with each other show how close, loving, and loyal they are, which is very different from what Evelyn has experienced from her father.
Though this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. That being said, I would recommend the entire Clan MacKinlay series to historical romance readers. It’s a great series, and I can’t wait to see who the focus of the next book will be! I love the characters, and the romances are always swoon-worthy! Thanks so much to Netgalley, Entangled Publishing, and the author for sending this copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Her Forbidden Highlander Husband is book three in the Clan MacKinlay series written by Allison B. Hansen. As with the previous books in the series this story is full of amazing characters, difficult situations, a hero who is slightly emotionally damaged, a heroine who has been through hell, and a romance that leaves you blissfully satisfied!
To fully enjoy this story I highly recommend reading the first two books Her Accidental Highlander Husband and Her Reluctant Highlander Husband first and then diving into this book. While they “could” be considered standalone books — there is so much connecting backstory and overlapping character ARCs you may not see all the character growth and subtle nuances could be missed.
This story is focused on Liam MacKinley who is the epitome of a perfect man, as we follow him through his journey of building and finding the one thing he has always longed for, family. Liam wants to marry Evelyn Stewart, The Stewart’s daughter, and even though he has been refused twice already when seeking her hand, he is determined and seeks her father’s permission again. Due to a previous abduction and torture, Evelyn Stewart is not sure she ever wants to marry, she can’t imagine ever being close to a man again. However her father has other plans and has made plans to give her to The Morgan lairds heir in exchange for…cattle. When she sees Liam asking for her hand and being denied she decides to take matters into her own hands and persuades Liam to elope against her fathers wishes. Once the two are wed the true reason behind her actions are revealed and although surprised Liam is happy. Now he just has to get his wife to fall in love with him and then hope he can keep her.
This story will keep you flipping the pages as fast as you can and by the end of the book you will have been on an emotional roller coaster— such a great ride!!
P.S. Bring the Kleenex 😭
*** Please note the following trigger warnings: off page abduction and rape, off page murder of secondary character, off page hanging of secondary character, child abuse, and bloody battle scenes***
Overall 5 Stars ⭐️ | 4 Flames 🔥 | highly recommend this book & the series.
If you haven’t read Allison B Hanson’s Highlander Series you have missed out. This one is a keeper for sure. The search for a family to replace his missing one is what drives Liam, and Evelyn is the wife he wants to make his dream come true. But Evelyn comes with problems he didn’t expect. A horrible trauma in her past, a father who refuses his offer of marriage, a child he knew nothing about, and yet this all blends to make his dream a reality. But sometimes realitly is a little rougher than our dreams and plans
This was a hard book for me to rate. I have read all previous books in this series, so I’m familiar with the author’s writing style. I have actually really enjoyed books 1-3, but this one, it’s definitely not my favorite.
We first meet Ev in book two. We get an idea of what has happened to her, which of course, is absolutely horrible. So now it’s a few years down the road and we get her story with Liam. Look, we get it, she was raped and treated horribly and has major PTSD and emotional trauma. My issue with it, is that it is brought up ALL THE TIME. I think almost in every chapter. It fell solidly into beating a dead horse territory. I know we’re not meant to forget it, but in this case I felt like it took away from the story. Liam was sweet, for sure a cinnamon roll, and they had some cute moments together as a couple. Sadly, the moments of her treating him like shit overshadowed the funny ones. I don’t think the constant reminder of her past worked well here.
The last conflict in their story was predictable. I honestly rolled my eyes the second I figured it out. A bit of a cop out to be honest. Bottom line is, the books is ok, I just wish I didn’t have to be reminded of what happened to her ad nauseam.
Liam MacKinlay's greatest wish is to marry Evelyn Stewart and have a family of his own...but her father keeps rejecting his suit. Daughter of a Laird, Evelyn is expected to marry for clan alliance. But when her father plans to trade her to an unknown clan, she will do almost anything to escape...including running away and marrying Liam.
This is the third book in the Clan MacKinlay series. I recommend reading this series in order as the set up for this couple happens in the previous books. Evelyn was kidnapped and abused, but rescued by Liam's clan. (Trigger warning for rape and PTSD).
I've been waiting for Liam's and Evelyn's story and it was a major emotional rollercoaster! Liam was taken in by Clan MacKinlay as a child. He was never sure if he was orphaned or abandoned, but he always struggled with feelings of not belonging. Evelyn feels rejected by her father after her abduction; so when she learns that he's going to barter her for cattle, she decides to take her destiny into her own hands. She doesn't want to marry or be touched by a man again but escaping with Liam is her only option. Evelyn has some major secrets, and this couple has a long, bumpy road to their HEA.
I loved that the characters felt fleshed out and realistic...they had struggles, they made poor choices, they talked to each other. The ending was a little too perfect after the chaos of the rest of the story, but I still liked it. I hope the character David might get a spin-off story.
Tropes: Scottish Romance, Found Family, Marriage of Convenience (sort of)
