I loved campus thrillers/academic settings, and I was in a sorority in college, so I was very excited for this one! I like the setting and plot idea, but found the twists to be predictable (maybe because I read so many thrillers)? Liked it, but didn't love it.
Allison Brennan is amazing.
Her characters are spot on and make you love it hate them.
I’m not really intrigued by stories about pod casts but this one was actually very good.
I haven’t read an Allison Brennan book I didn’t like. I can’t wait to read more.
I liked this one and it was a decent thriller. I liked the podcast part of this one… seems like every thriller is doing podcasts now. I did no lt guess this one completely so I always enjoy that
Really liked this mystery! I didn’t have it figured out! There was definitely a good twist— not a huge one but a piece i hadn’t connected initially.
I do think that at times it was a little repetitive especially the recap at the end.
But otherwise this is a series I’ll follow with and I’d like to hear more about Regans story. Looking forward to more detective work from her.
Engrossing and highly addictive, The Sorority Murder kept me fully engrossed from beginning to end.
This wasn't just a mystery about solving a murder, it was about the challenges families face, the cost of secrets, friendships and so much more.
The Sorority Murder by Allison Brennan is the first book I've read by the author. Although it was slow at the start it did pick up towards the end .I did enjoy the concept of a podcast trying to solve a cold case murder.
I’m really enjoying the current wealth of true crime podcast centered novels. There’s something slightly meta about it that I can’t articulate, but I love the new trope. The Sorority Murder uses the plot device well, and Alison Brennon crafts a thrilling crime read. A college student starts a podcast as his senior project to investigate the cold case murder of a sorority student. An ex-law enforcement officer comes in to help, which lends some credibility and maturity to the podcast (and keeps the novel from veering into Scooby-Doo territory with only a boy detective on the case.) This is a solid murder mystery, with a tense and engaging plot that keeps you hooked. It’s a fun thriller for fans of murder mysteries, true crime podcasts, or both!
I Love books with true crime podcasts in them and I was in a sorority, so I thought this would be the perfect book for me. While it felt a little predictable, I thought the characters were intriguing, the plot was unique and it was hard to put down. My only critique is that there were a lot of characters which made it hard to digest easily, but the different POVs made it easy and fun to binge!
I love (non-bloody) murder mysteries, so this book was right up my alley. I really liked the use of technology - it seemed very right for the setting of the story - a college campus.
Brennan did a clever thing by pairing our college-age sleuth with an older expert, and that dynamic worked well. The exchange of ideas and expertise in very different areas was a great representation of the larger idea that different generations can learn a lot from one another.
The mystery is a good one. The ending was *a bit* of a stretch, but not so bad that it made me dislike the book. It does take a minute to get going, but once it does the story moves right along.

If you enjoyed the YA novel A Good Girl's Guide to Murder you will like this one. While this is for an adult audience, it does take place at a college and with younger characters. I think older teens would be okay to read this one. The Sorority Murder is another novel using a true crime podcast as a plot device. I listen to many true crime podcasts as I work, so I enjoy reading books that include this in them. There was a novel, the title escapes me, that I didn't think worked as well, but I liked this one. I thought this was a standalone novel when I first started this book, and then realized it's a first book in a series. The amount of background information given about the main character, Regan was a bit much and vague if it was for just one book. I am looking forward to learn more about Regan as the series progresses. I do enjoy her father as a secondary character and hope there is more of him. The murder in this book was interesting but didn't have any suspense for me. I won't say led me to it, in case I ruin it for others like me.

DNF at 40%. I wanted this to be great but it just couldn't keep my attention. Feels like a pretty basic popcorn thriller. Whomp whomp.
This one was okay. I was hoping for more. The story flowed okay but I was hoping for a more thrilling execution. It is worth a read but it wasn’t my favourite.
I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was interesting enough to keep my attention but didn't have me guessing at the end. I didn't really fell an attachment to the main characters and I felt there were some unnecessary distracting things. It was okay to me.
3.5/5 stars rounded up for rating.
A little on the slower side for pacing but I still enjoyed it! Full review to come with blog tour date
I really liked this book. It was so interesting. Using a podcast to try to solve a murder is something I haven’t read before. There are a lot of characters. I was eagerly turning the pages to see who killed Candace. This book has been provided by the author with no expectations and that in no way influences my review. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.
Lucas Vega is determined to figure out what happened with Candace Swain. He was dating her sister when she disappeared and the family was never the same again. She was murdered when he was a freshman at NAU and now is he doing his senior project as a podcast to find out what really happened to her. There are a lot of unanswered questions, and although the case isn't closed, it is very, very cold. Lucas hopes the podcast will bring new witnesses and information to light to answer some of the questions such as: Where was she for the week before her body was found? Why were her lungs filled with chlorinated water when she was found in the lake? When former US Marshal Regan Merritt comes to the school for a guest lecture, Lucas and his advisor convince her to work with him to solve this cold case. Witnesses come forward anonymously from sorority sisters because they have been silenced and are afraid to speak out. What really happened to Candace Swaiin? When one of the callers ends up dead, Lucas and Regan know they are onto something.
This is another cold case story, but very different. I enjoyed seeing Lucas and Regan work together. She had a lot of insight about investigations and evidence that she shared with Lucas and his audience, one reason some people came forward. Regan added maturity to the story to offset Lucas' inexperience but exuberance. As the story progresses, pieces of evidence from the past are discredited, thus putting Regan, Lucas and others in danger. There was a tense feeling while reading this one. The podcast was a different twist to many crime thrillers and cold case stories I have read and even though it is being used more often, it adds a different feeling to the story. I was not expecting the murderer to be the person revealed, nor the motive to be what it was, which added to my enjoyment. The beginning is a bit slow to get going, but stick with it as once it picks up, it moves along at a great pace. I recommend The Sorority Murder to those who enjoy a good crime thriller, especially cold cases.
I've been a fan of Allison Brennan for years. I used to love her romantic suspense trilogies. I still have copies of those beat up paperbacks and will re-read them periodically. The Sorority Murder is the first book of hers in years that I could not put down. I read it in one day, start to finish it maybe took me 7-8 hours. SO GOOD. It was engaging and the flow of the story, the fact that it was a podcast, the lack of romance and focus on the investigation. I actually felt like I was listening to a podcast. It reminded me of the SERIAL podcast. The characters were wounded and engaging, they each had secrets and at least Regan's were never fully explained. I really hope this is the first in a series because I can't wait to read more!
Lucas Vega is determined to figure out what happened with Candace Swain. Even though she was found in the lake, her lungs were filled with chlorinated water. Where was she during that week? Did anyone see her? He's enlisted the help of formal US Marshal Regan Merritt and together they are working hard to solve this cold case. He's been trying to hear from her sorority sisters in Sigma Rho, but they have been silenced. Will he find the answers he is looking for?
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this title.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I was invested in the story and I wanted to know what happened to Candace. The deeper he dug, the more people that ended up dying or getting hurt. Where was Candace during the week she was missing? What was tearing her up inside that she felt so guilty about? There are a million questions that had to be answered and roadblocks around every turn. While there was a slight twist to the story, I could see it coming. It didn't take away from the story at all.
There was a quote in the book, that I really loved, "'God made us stewards of the earth, which means more than taking care of what's yours. Give more than you expect to receive, and be thankful for every day you draw breath ...'" This really touched me because we never know what is going on in someone else's life. Tomorrow is never promised and we have to be thankful for each day that we are given a chance to be alive.
This is a book I will recommend to others.
What a great start to a new series!!!! Allison Brennan has always been one of my top 5 authors and this book continues to prove why!
Great characters (even the evil ones), lots of non-stop action, a few different plots going on, murder, twisted thinking, some unexpected turns, just enough of everything to keep you turning those pages.
I can't wait for the next book in this series!

Sisterhood, friendship, love.....and murder. All great ingredients for a solid murder mystery book. Really enjoyed this interwoven story of loyalty, deception, heartbreak and murder - good character development
