This second book in the Detective Annalisa Vega series was a captivating read. Annalisa is one determined cop. Placing herself in danger comes with the job as far as she is concerned. Just like the first book in the series, Dead and Gone, there are personal and professional relationships that are stretched to the limit in this book.

Following reading the first book, I went right on to read this one and was pulled in right from the very start. It is very easy to love Annalisa and I am moving right on to books three and four in the series, Dead and Gone and All the Way Gone.

Vega is such a great character and I love seeing female detectives in more police procedurals. The addition of her ex husband brings in some great banter and you can tell there is a lot of love between them still which I love as well. Can't wait to read more.

I normally love detective series, but this one didn't grab me the way I expected it to. In order to review Long Gone I first listened to Gone For Good, so I was able to binge these two books back-to-back. I enjoyed Gone For Good and was excited to see where Annalisa went after the ending, but Long Gone just didn't stick with me. I read a lot of these books, so I might just be burnt out, but it didn't feel fresh. I might read the third one just because I like to finish what I start, but I'll wait to see some reviews first.

I seem to be an outlier based on the other Goodreads reviews that pop up at the top of my page. Fans of Joanna Schaffhausen are loving this one!

I had not read the first in the series and wish I had. Thought this could be read as a standalone. I will read the first one.

I love Annalise Vega and Joanna Schaffhausen’s writing.

As Annalise works her newest case, it seems an old case is the key to solving it. She is one tough woman and I hope there will be mites to her story.

What happens when you've been shunned for busting your dad as a dirty cop, and then you stumble upon ANOTHER ring of dirty cops? Do you do the right thing and investigate? Or do you try and salvage your reputation and ignore it? This is a story of revenge, family, alliances, forgiveness, and healing. When the third book in the series came out, I had realized I had missed this one. So glad and I went back and caught up. Annalisa Vega has flaws, but she is a character to root for. Recommended.

This is the second book in this series but probably could be read as a stand-alone very easily. Action packed tho at some times it was a bit unbelievable but hey, it’s fiction! Many thanks to the publisher and netgalley for this copy for review

Police procedural fans will welcome this new Annalisa Vega novel. It’s helpful but not strictly necessary to have read the previous book. Annalisa is suffering the consequences of her previous actions. Neither her family nor her police colleagues can’t forgive her for having turned in her own father, a former officer. Cue a new case that turns out to involve shady cops and promises once again to be difficult territory for Annalisa to navigate. The book is well-paced and moves the story forward while illustrating Annalisa’s personal difficulties. I look forward to the next installment of the series.

Overall this is a very solid offering from Schaffhausen in this new series. The characters are fully fleshed out and have complex personalities and motivations. I really like Annalisa, and being able to root for her is what makes this series shine. She's tough, smart, and not afraid to do the right thing regardless of personal consequences. I'm a huge fan of police procedurals and this one is a fabulous example. My only problem is when characters I like are set up over and over and framed for things they don't do and everyone around them seems to believe the setup. As I said in an update, the wrongfully accused person is one of my least favorite tropes, so those parts in this book gave me anxiety and made me like the book a bit less. It's still a fabulous read and highly recommended.

I love every thing about this series. The protagonist is flawed but you understand how she came to be that way. Her circumstances are unique and interesting. Can’t wait for the next installment.

This is the second installment in the Annalisa Vega series by Joanna Schaffhausen. It is a police procedural featuring an ex-married couple and detective partners, Annalisa and Nick.

Annalisa is still reeling from the after effects of her last case and the ramifications of seeing justice through. She is in a tough spot with her family and the situation is not better at work. She and Nick find themselves on the case of a cop shooting which is the last kind of case Annalisa needs right now. But perhaps she is exactly the right person because unlike anyone else we know what’s on the line for her.

This book is about complicated family dynamics, doing the right thing, right now-always and it's also a lot about shield politics, which I wasn’t expecting so much of. There is a nice pace to the writing and it's basically a pitch-perfect procedural.

I love the tension and the back-and-forth between Annalisa and Nick. But if you’re not here for that there’s also a solid mystery and a case to solve.

It reminds me a lot of Tess Gerritsen’s THE SURGEON series, which I’ve mentioned before. Both in the setting and in the nature of the characters. I do hope to see more from Vega and Schaffhausen.

This solid mystery/thriller kept my interest from page 1. The main character Analisa is a Chicago cop who is not entirely trusted by her coworkers or her family for turning in her brother and father for their role in a murder. Her family has shunned her. In this novel, she is paired up with her ex-husband, who wants to reestablish their relationship. I loved the way the author brought together the neighborhoods of Chicago with the men in blue and their dubious actions.
There were a lot of threads to the mysteries in this novel and I think that the author wove the present day case and the cold case effectively in a believable way. At times , the story got a little complicated and I worried how it would turn out for Analisa.
I thought that Analisa was well developed although she did run head first into several nail biting situations. She has a strong moral code and is a woman who digs deep for the truth. At the same time, I think the author developed other strong characters who were relatable and realistic in a tight plot.

Long Gone is the second book in the Detective Vega series. This one picks up right where the first book left off. It works as a stand alone but you’ll want to read the first one first. It’s so so good!

I really enjoyed the continuation of this story. I wasn’t sure how I would considering I wasn’t a huge fan of the ending to the first book but I thought this one was really good! I enjoyed getting a look at the aftermath and a new case that was just as twisty and mind boggling as the first one! Detective Vega really pushed the limits in this one and it made me like her more! This one was definitely a solid 4 star read and I can’t wait for the next book!

Long Gone follows Annalisa Vega, who is reeling from the aftermath of (spoiler for the first book) turning in her ex-cop father for his involvement in a murder. When a fellow Chicago detective Leo Hammond is dead from a bizarre murder, Annalisa immediately believes it must be Moe Bocks, a car salesman who already got away with murder. She's determined to get him arrested for it, even if it means uncovering a few secrets and ruffling a few feathers along the way.

I did not read the first book in this series, but I thought the writing in this book was very good! I was invested in the mystery and did not even mind the minor romantic subplot. Where the book lost me a little bit was in the fact that Annalisa was so hung up on Bocks. She almost refused to look at anyone else and that really bothered me because that does not feel like great police procedure. That being said, I would read another book in this series as I did enjoy myself and I like the author's Ellery Hathaway series as well.

Long Gone is the second book in the Detective Annalisa Vega series and this was another hit! I love police procedurals and most of the cast is back to solve another case, but know you can read this as a standalone, it just takes a bit to get caught up I think. I loved how Vega’s personal life was woven into the current case and I also loved how she just couldn’t help herself when she was told to stand down. The case was a good one that wrapped up nicely, and it sounds like there is another book coming which makes me happy as I’m not ready to be done with Vega just yet. The audio for this one is excellent and I really enjoyed listening to the book this way.

Long Gone is a procedural/mystery about a killer targeting a group of cops connected to a cold case from over 20 years ago.
If you’re looking for a good, solid mystery thriller, with some police procedural tossed in, it’s a great next entry in this series. It can be read alone, but I think you’ll get far more enjoyment out of it if you’ve read the first book and get to know the characters and backstory. I read on my Kindle and listened to the audiobook narrated by Kelsey Navarro, who did a fabulous job with all the voicing, though initially it seemed all the male cop characters sounded the same - a bit like ‘40s gangsters. I adjusted and it was all good!

She is trying to investigate a fellow detective’s death, but she does not know who to trust as everyone around her has been lying or turning their backs on her. This book does not have a huge mystery to it as the murderers are laid out in the beginning. However, there is one smaller mystery that needs to be uncovered and Vega will stop at nothing to do so.
