This is the second installment of the Annalisa Vega Detective Series, and I loved it just as much as the first. This novel starts off shortly after the first ends and the series really needs to be read in order.
Great characters and a fast-moving pace keep the reader propelled forward in a very satisfying read.

Excellent! I don't think this author can write a bad book. Everything I have read by Joanna Schaffhausen has been perfection and this book is no exception. This is a second book in the Annalisa Vega series and is better then the first book . If you like lots of intrigue with plenty of twists then you need to read this book! Look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Long Gone was a fantastic follow-up to Gone for Good as Annalisa investigates the murder of a fellow cop.

Detective Annalisa Vega put a wrecking ball through her life when she turned in her brother and her ex-cop father for their role in a decades old murder. So when legendary detective Leo Hammond is killed, Annalisa figures she has nothing to lose by taking the case. Annalisa quickly discovers that Hammond was hiding a number of secrets, any one of which could have gotten him killed. When Annalisa discovers a connection to someone close to her, she becomes increasingly determined to uncover the truth even after it becomes clear someone wants her to stop digging.

The investigation into detective Leo Hammond's death proved to be quite interesting. Hammond was part of a group of four cops that have become legendary in the department for the number of busts they've been involved in over the course of several decades. With such a prolific career, Annalisa has her work cut out for her to find a suspect as anyone Hammond busted could be the killer. When Annalisa discovers a connection to a twenty-year-old murder that's still unsolved, she can't help but think solving one case will solve the other. She gets a lot of pushback from Hammond's cop buddies and it quickly becomes clear something more was going on with these guys. I liked that Annalisa didn't stop looking even after being warned off the case by her fellow cops and eventually even her own commander. Her tenacity is one of the things that makes her such a good cop and I liked that she kept digging. The author takes the investigation in a number of different directions and I was surprised by how everything ultimately played out.

Annalisa continues to be an excellent main character. She has a strong moral compass and I liked that she did the right thing even when there were personal consequences for her. A lot of people still blame Annalisa for turning in her own family and she definitely struggles with that even though she knows it was the right thing to do. I liked getting to see her work through that over the course of the book. Her relationship with Nick, her ex-husband and partner at work, has developed a lot. The pair work really well together, although Annalisa needs to get better about telling him what she's up to. I also liked the direction their personal relationship went and I'm definitely interested to see where things go between them in the next book.

Overall Long Gone was a very enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to picking up the next book, Dead and Gone, when it comes out next year.

This series is good. It is well written and twisty and turny. You follow Miss Vega as she picks up her life after the end of the last book. This book is good, but I don't know if I would read a third one in this series, I just feel like I can 't relate to Miss Vega.

The second book in the series.

Annalisa Vega and her partner (and ex-husband) Nick Carrelli are called in to investigate the murder of a fellow cop, Leo Hammond.

Leo and 3 other policemen, Tom Osborne, Frankie Vaughn, and Paul Monk were part of the Fantastic Four and together they had a reputation for solving crimes and busting drug dealers. However, Annalisa knows something is not adding up. Did the wife do it or someone he busted years ago? Was Leo dirty? And how about the wife claiming someone wearing a diving suit did it?

The more Annalisa investigates, the closer she puts her life in danger. Someone doesn't want her to find the truth. At the same time, she is trying to close a cold case with the suspect being too close for comfort.

Usually, reading the second book in a series after a year has passed, the tendency is to make the characters forgettable. I can tell you this was not the case with Long Gone. I knew who Annalisa and Nick were after just a few sentences without reading the blurb.

Annalisa is still too impulsive and still pinning for her first crush way more than she should. Give it up already, he is not worth it. In case you didn't realize it I'm team, Nick. He is there, supportive, wants a family, and color me surprised, I've forgiven him :)

Despite Annalisa's issues, what I like about Vega is that she won't rest until she finds the truth. You know she will. She is like my English Springer Spaniel once he knows the opossum is hiding in our tree.

I wonder what the next Gone book will bring to this detective.

Cliffhanger: No

4/5 Fangs

Long Gone is the second book in the Detective Annalisa Vega series, and although the actual crime that is being investigated is solved in this book, there is a lot of backstory that plays out. Because of this, I recommend you read this series in order. In Long Gone, a local Chicago police detective is murdered and Annalisa is sure she knows who did it. Moe Bocks is a wealthy car salesman who she is sure got away with murder years ago when he killed his girlfriend, so she is determined to not let it happen again. It gets complicated when Bocks begins dating her best friend! As more bodies turn up, this case becomes urgent to solve, but no one will trust or believe her except her partner, her ex-husband.

Annalisa is such a great character. First, being a woman is tough when you are a cop in a male dominated field, but to turn in another cop, her father no less, she is hated, not trusted and treated like a traitor. She doesn't throw in the towel, but becomes even better at her job. She is smart, able to put clues together and has great intuition. Partnering with her ex-husband, Nick, could have put her over the edge, but they work really well together. I also like her family. Once again, they could have cut ties with her, but are beginning to realize she had no choice, her morals and values are what motivate her. She is like a pitbull when she is working on a case, often ignoring what her commander tells her to do. I enjoyed how they went about solving the crimes and putting clues together. There is a lot of action, many suspects and some red herrings along the way. Leo Hammond was such a bad cop, there were a lot of people who could have wanted him dead, but who is behind it? I had no idea who the murderer was, and was quickly listening and flipping pages to find the answer. The "frogman" getup adds even more speculation and doubt to the story. When Annalisa gets close, she is also in danger, and I was on the edge of my seat to find out what was going to happen next. This is a great series, and each book gets better, so I highly recommend this one to those who enjoy a Crime Thriller/Police Procedural.

I enjoyed this book so much. It kept me turning pages long after I should have turned out the lights! Family, murder, love…. All of it is rolled into this nice package that leaves you guessing until the end.

Enjoyment: 5
Total rating: 4.5

Dealing with the aftermath of her decision at the end of the previous book, Annalisa is picking up the pieces both in her personal and professional life. When another Chicago detective is found brutally murdered, she has reason to believe someone her former sister-in-law is seeing might have something to do with it.

I loved the first book in the Vega series; sometimes sequels don't live up to the expectation, but, in my opinion, Long Gone is even better. Schaffhausen continued Vega's arc consistently, and I loved watching her develop even more as a character. I am also a fan of the author Hathaway series and am impressed how each of these universes is unique and has its own tone and style. Vega is a detective who takes her work seriously and keeps her moral compass always pointing to N, which is not always the easiest route to take when you are a female officer surrounded by male coworkers who don't mind blurring lines.

Long Gone is definitely grittier than its predecessor but equally thrilling and satisfying. I caught myself holding my breath often and, for a while, had no idea where the book was heading!

I wasn't a fan of switching POVs, as I don't love when mystery books give you some answers so soon. That being said I continue to love Annalisa, and her ex-husband turned partner. I'm rooting for them! Normally in my mysteries, I want the relationships and entanglements left out, but I love the balance here of solving crime and relationship development. It's very well done! I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Complicated police procedural and crime thriller featuring Chicago detective Annalisa Vega in the followup to GONE FOR GOOD.

Even more messed up than her personal life, Annalisa's job is also fraught with problems. Nobody on the force likes or trusts her since she turned in her own father, an ex-cop. Now she runs the risk of alienating everyone even further when she's assigned to investigate the murder of a another Chicago detective, Leo Hammond. Apparently Leo Hammond wasn't the great cop that everyone thought he was -- nor were his best buddies. In addition, Annalisa is looking into a cold case that might also be linked to some malfeasance on Hammond's watch. As always, she goes looking for trouble and it always gets found.

This is a convoluted set of cases where there are multiple suspects with lots of secrets and lies that have gone unexposed for years. The truth is eventually revealed after Annalisa attacks both situations with her usual dogged enthusiasm. The words of her current boss describe Annalisa's character: "...blatant insubordination, legal violations, questionable judgments, and dangerous pursuits." Instead of admiration, Annalisa mostly elicited annoyance. It just seems such a trope that she constantly goes off on her own and puts herself and others in peril. Regardless, the complex investigation yields results and Annalisa doesn't get fired.

Although I did not like this as much as I'd hoped, it provided a couple of hours of entertainment. I am not sure if I will read further installments in this series.

This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites. This is a well written story and the next book in Annalisa's series. It is a suspenseful, hard to put down story that had me turning pages fast. A story that is full of action. The characters are relateable and made the story realistic. They pulled me in from the beginning and had me coming back for more. This is a story where secrets are worth dying for but the truth needs to be revealed. I really enjoyed this book and what the characters brought to the story. There is great growth throughout which made the story easy to read. A story you don't want to miss. I highly recommend this book.

This is book 2 in the Detective Vega series. With not having read book 1 , I was able to piece things together without a problem! I definitely to go back and read the first one. I loved being Annalisa Vegas world, the difficulty she faces after things happened with her family and she turned them in. The case was really interesting and she had her ideas of who did it. it sucked her in and I could relate to that just NEED to know. she drove me a little crazy with some actions, like what are you doing!! but that was half the fun! I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next in Vega and Nicks world.

Thank you to st. Martins Press and Netgalley for my review copy!

One of my most anticipated releases of 2022, Long Gone surpassed all expectations and left me nearly breathless to finish. Razor sharp tension and suspense drip from the pages of this book, the second in the Annalisa Vega series. Author Joanna Schaffhausen continues to impress, building more depth into the characters and world introduced in the first novel.

Book two opens immediately after the events of book one. Annalisa has blown up her entire life, simply by doing the right thing. Her notoriety from the Lovelorn Killer case still hasn't died down, and she doesn't have many friends left in the precinct. Bad luck then, that she is assigned the murder case of a fellow cop, a real hotshot. This case is bound to ruffle feathers and uncover unsavory secrets. Secrets so explosive, Annalisa might just end up collateral damage. Someone wants to make sure their dirt stays buried, and if they have to bury Anna as well, so be it.

I raced through this one so fast! I loved how intricate the case was, and how beautifully it all slotted together at the end. Of course, there were a few instances where I wanted to bean Anna over the head for being such an idiot, but for the most part, I really appreciate her character. Joanna Schaffhausen is one to watch and I cannot wait to see what comes next! Thank you to Netgalley and Minotaur Books for the chance to review this advance copy. Long Gone is available for purchase everywhere you buy books now!

Having read this author's previous Ellery Hathaway series and really enjoying it, I was delighted to discover that Ms. Schaffhausen had started a new series with Detective Annalisa Vega. I loved the first book, 'Gone for Good' and devoured this second installment in just two days. Both are very suspenseful and the author really brings the character of Annalisa alive in her writing. I found myself rooting for her and becoming deeply involved in the story. I cannot wait for the next one in this series!

Many thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin's press and the author for the opportunity to read this electronic eARC before publication.

I loved #GoneForGood so I was really looking forward to this book. Unfortunately, I wasn’t really interested in the case this time. It was still a good read though and I still loved Nick and Annalisa’s characters!

Long Gone is the second book in the Detective Annalisa Vega series. Book one must be read before reading this one. You will need the backstory of Annalisa's complicated relationships with the other characters (Nick, Sassy, her father, her mother, Alex, Colin).

Annalisa is investigating the death of an old timer, old school detective. But her probe uncovers another unsolved murder. Once again Annalisa is in a position where she reveals a cover up with dirty cops.

Some of Annalisa's actions were not believable to me. The plot is very complex, blending multiple mysteries. Overall, this is a very entertaining read and I highly recommended book. I enjoyed it a lot!

Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and Joanna Schaffhausen for an ARC of "Long Gone" in exchange of an honest review.

Yes, Yes, and Yes. I am loving this series. I can not say enough good things about Joanna Schaffhausen's writing. I love the main character and how relatable she is. I love the story the series is telling and I can not wait to read book 3.

I don’t follow many detective series but this is the second book in the Annalisa Vega series and I am FOR SURE a fan!

After her last case put her name on the map, Annalisa is looking to lay low… that is until her next case involves a dead cop. Somehow she and her partner (and ex husband) Nick are investigating another high profile case that goes behind the thin blue line. Who is hunting down murdering cops and why?

What I love about the latest Joanna Schaffhausen procedural is that there is always more then one thing happening at a time. Always multiple cases, multiple plot lines, lots of characters. For someone who enjoys a bit more to follow then your basic “whodunit” it makes for a great read.

Fast paced and with a strong female lead at its center, I quite enjoyed this one! We get to learn more about Annalisa and the repercussions of her last case (so I’d read book one first if possible).

Will be holding my breath for book 3!

Joanna Schaffhausen has quickly become one of my go to/favorite authors! Her writing is captivating, suspenseful, and always keeps me on the edge of my seat!
In GONE FOR GOOD, we meet Detective Annalisa Vega, in which we follow her journey in trying to solve a cold case, that has gone unsolved for YEARS.
We join Annalisa once again in LONG GONE. This time, she may be on her own, solving the case of the murder of her own colleague. It will take you on an a journey you won’t soon forget!
Annalisa’s determination is a result of another amazing novel. Imagine a really good episode of Dateline or 20/20, through the detective’s POV.. SO GOOD!
