A short festive read. Cage is just back in the US after military service. He meets Violet when she mistakes him for someone else, but he can't stop thinking about her. When they meet again, she offers to help his get more festive, but will he give her the chance?
Very short story, but it was well written and the story itself was nice. It was a great way to get myself into the holiday spirit! My only wish is that it was a little longer, as I didn't feel super connected to the characters. Looking forward to trying more from this author.
A nice Christmas read who everyone enjoys don’t they? Not my usual type of book but I did enjoy it just the same and I’d read more by this author.
I received an advance copy of, Shortbread Shakedown, by Sofia Aves. This is a short story, a nice story.
We have Cage who is home from the military for Christmas but he doesn't have any family or roots so when a mysterious woman mistakenly gives him cookies she is all he can think about. I really enjoyed being in his head as he starts to integrate back into the general population. Then there is Violet who we don't really know much about but she adopts Cage and they have a lovely Christmas. I really enjoyed our cast of characters and wish this story was longer. This was a really short but sweet read.
A lovely short story about hope after a rough experience, perfect for a holiday afternoon!
I really liked the first meeting between the main characters. I would have loved to know more about Violet and some more character development but I get there was a length constrain.
Shortbread Shakedown
Christmas Cookies by Sofia Aves.
Description
A package determined to derail his scheduled future delivered by a mystery woman. A tiny note hints at who she is—and how to find her.
When veteran and acting Brigadier General Dominic Cage returns from deployment days before Christmas, he's unprepared for the shortbread cookies pressed into his hands in a case of mistaken identity by a stunning woman. Unable to forget her, Cage trusts Violet's promise of a true Christmas—until the lines of his reality blur.
Damaged and resolute, and unable to escape the gunfire that haunts him, Cage's choice could cost them everything.
A great short read with good characters. I loved the cover. Cage and Violet were my favourite characters. 5*.
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Cage returns from deployment and bumps into the most beautiful woman he has seen. He tries to catch up with her through the airport but doesn’t find her. He can’t stop thinking about her.
Hours later a fellow soldier meets up with him and low and behold there is the woman Cage has been thinking about since leaving the airport.
Violet is just what Cage needs. She is kind, understanding and calms Cage.
Great short read and gives hope to those serving and having a hard time back in civilian life.
