There is nothing like salon gossip and a bunch of ladies with too much time on their hands! I loved every moment of this deliciously drama-filled story....and that ending! If you enjoy domestic dramas, you'll want to grab this one. Bravo on another fantastic novel Jeneva!

One Of Us Is Dead by Jeneva Rose

✂️ Thriller
🔍 Mystery
⏳ Non-Linear Timeline
🗣 Multiple POV

This thriller definitely kept me guessing.

Meet the women of Buckhead—a place of expensive cars, huge houses, and competitive friendships, some of which can be deadly.

📝 It took my a little bit to get into the writing style but once I got comfortable with it I liked it. It’s very raw and unfiltered.

✂️ I loved how vague this thriller was. We know right from the beginning something’s happened but there isn’t much to go on. It kept me constantly guessing about who was killed and who the killer was.

🔍 I was so wrapped up in the web being spun I kind of forgot about the mystery of what happened! 😂 I was really caught up in the drama of it all.

⏳ The non-linear timeline played out like a movie, jumping smoothly from past to present.

🗣 I liked how many points of view are given. It really allowed me to get to know all of the women and see the story from many angles. It also made me think I knew who was killed but I was wrong! 😂

💜 I was really enamored with this story. I loved all the drama playing out between the women in this community. I was also surprised by the ending but not surprised at the same time!

If you enjoy thrillers filled with drama then this is the perfect read for you!

Told from the perspective of five frenemies: Olivia (queen bee-yotch), Shannon (divorced and disgraced) Crystal (new hot young wife), Karen (the only mom in the group) and Jenny (the salon owner privy to everyone's secrets), One of Us is Dead read like a mashup of Real Housewives meets Big Little Lies. All of the women in Buckhead Georgia have secrets and most of their husbands are turds. They say, "Buckhead wasn't a place you lived. It was a place you survived." Alas one or more of the characters won't survive after these secrets come to light.

The salon setting reminded me of watching Steel Magnolias back in the day, a place where everyone congregates and gossip is served up under the hair dryers. This one is for those who love to read about rich people behaving badly and {hopefully} getting what's coming to them.

I read this in a single sitting. Loved having multiple narrators Andi Arndt, Hillary Huber, Elizabeth Evans, Brittany Pressley, Cassandra Campbell do the voices for the different female characters. Listening to the book really brought it to life. I felt like I was immersed in a soap opera.

True rating: 3.5 stars rounded up for Goodreads.

Special thanks to @netgalley for providing me with an ARC in electronic and audiobook formats for review purposes. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you Netgalley and Blackstone publishing for the chance to read and review this!

I’d heard a lot about one of us is dead. Like it seemed like a really hyped up book and I was super excited when I was approved for it on netgalley.

My favourite part was when Shannon called Olivia an idiot for making the book at the book club vogue.

I really had to make an effort to get through it though, because it was just a little less than okay! The characters felt really odd; I mean I watch the real housewives and WAGS and a lot of reality TV shows, and it kinda felt like the author had based these women off one of those. You know, it’s like the conversation is so fake between all of them. And not in a these women are all playing games with each other, but more like this is scripted dialogue from a reality tv show. It’s like when people are trying to have meaningful conversations and you’re like no, no one talks like this.

Anyway, this kinda went into my dislike pile, and I only got through it because its a skimmable read and under 300 pages. I mean was it necessary to do the whole shes going for a fake domestic abuse thing?

I’m also very sure I’m probably going to read another Jeneva Rose book, the same way I watch reality tv and read regency romance. So make of my review what you will.

This books was WONDERFUL! Rich housewives in their worst behavior while readers know a murder is at the end was a huge selling point for me.

I loved all the POVs of the characters. Yes all the characters are vapid and selfish, but that’s what makes this so juicy!

I was completely hooked on this book and couldn’t put it down! I think this will be a perfect summer read while you’re lounging by the pool.

One of Us Is Dead is out April 25th. Thank you to Netgalley for this e-arc and audiobook!

Thank you @blackstonepublishing & @netgalley for the arc to read and review 🤍

Meet the women of Buckhead—an exclusive neighborhood in Atlanta. We have newly divorced Shannon; newcomer (and new wife) Crystal; hot- headed Olivia; salon owner and constant observer Jenny; and Karen, a business powerhouse who’s discovering a new side of herself.

This book gives big Gossip Girl meets The Real Housewives energy with a delightful side of murder. It’s darkly witty and just plain to fun read.

The mystery unravels in past and present so you get to play detective as you try to figure out who is “just” a mean girl and who is a true villain. It also explores female friendships and “frenemies” in a relatable way, even if the context is not. I can’t get enough of rich women doing bad things so this is totally up my ally.

Definitely recommend you check it out and can’t wait for @jenevaroseauthor next book!

And just a lil reminder/ PSA- Netgalleys are uncredited proofs and not final/ formatted books. In my opinion, it’s really important to remember this and not base ratings around something that is expected with the digital arc reviewing process.

YES!!!! Jeneva Rose has done it again. She shocked us with The Perfect Couple. Now she's floored us with One Of Us Is Dead.

Talk about dysfunctional friends. Are they even friends? I think it's really hard to tell. Likeable characters? Can we come back to that? But for real, some are very likeable and some you want to hit with a shovel. This book is unputdownable and very entertaining. Then just like her first book, when you think you have all the twists she hits you again. No one can double twist like Jeneva!!!

Wow this was one dramatic ride! I think reality tv lovers will be in heaven. If I was watching all of this play out in real time I would have whiplash. I found this funny in several parts (actually laugh out loud funny not just a chuckle) and was interested in seeing what happened. I always enjoy short chapters and tend to keep reading longer thinking "just one more". I would recommend.

This book was such a fun read for me. I switched between the audiobook and the eARC and I really enjoyed both. I love a book with rich people doing bad things and this was full of it from beginning to end. I also really enjoyed the multiple POV. The book doesn’t tell you who died OR who did the killing until the very end (literally like the last 10%) and i had no idea whatsoever so that was a fun reveal.

This book was such a blast to read! Fast-paced, full of drama, and addicting from start to finish. It gave me Big Little Lies vibes but with a much faster paced story and way more drama! I was very impressed at how well Jeneva wrote from 5 different POVs and kept the story moving in a way that felt natural and never confusing. Every voice was distinct and it was easy to remember which POV I was reading, which is not always the case with books that have this many POVs. Another fantastic thriller from Jeneva Rose!

✨ARC Review✨

I loved The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose, and when I heard she was putting out One Of Us Is Dead, I couldn’t wait to read her newest juicy thriller!

This book is for lovers of the TV shows Real Housewives and Snapped! The “housewives” of Buckhead will be your newest obsession, where friendship turns deadly. They live to gossip it up at the local salon, Glow, and dish out their secrets to the hairdresser, Jenny. In a fast paced book of betrayal, lies, steam, affairs, and greed, someone turns up dead and it’s one wild ride figuring everything out! This book is written in such a way that when you look at the lives of Jenny, Keisha, Olivia, Shannon, Karen, and Crystal, anyone is capable of anything, so you are constantly questioning everyone. You will love to hate these characters!

In true Jeneva Rose fashion, I was kept on my toes consistently guessing. A page turner packed with twists, and THEN, just when I thought the ending was explained, we get an even bigger twist. I loved the thrill of the entire read. The author’s pacing is always good, but the endings are where it’s at!

Read If You Love:
-thrillers
-the Real Housewives meets Snapped
-hairdressers getting the gossip
-mashup terms like “kinsult” and “clexy”
-multiple POV and timelines

I haven't had this much fun reading a book in a while!
We follow the story of five women, Jenny, Shannon, Crystal, Karen and Olivia. At the beginning, we see Jenny (a salon owner) talking to a detective saying she has information of a recent murder. It is clear from the beginning that one of the other four women is the one who died, but the story builds up until it is revealed at the end who's the one. The author kept me guessing who could have been the murderer and the one murdered. And the story follows Jenny's recount of the events three weeks prior to the present day. It was kind of like Desperate Housewives revolving in a town called Buckhead and the wives being married to extremely rich husbands. It was a truly refreshing story with a lot of twists that kept me on edge the entire time.
Totally recommend!

I really wanted to like this book, and up until the last hour I was liking it. Then the big twist was revealed, and I just can’t behind that plot point. What I thought was a ironically funny thriller about self-centered, vain women became suddenly very serious and for what?? But the seriousness of the plot wasn’t observed and was still treated like a flippant thing. I guess you would have to read it to understand where I’m going, but the book becomes suddenly triggering in the last 15%, but it is not treated with the sensitivity the topic deserves.

Not to mention that the characters lacked development. Short chapters are great except when you switch POV every time between 5 perspectives. The characters could not have been anymore underdeveloped if she tried.

This book and author is a “no” from me.

Thank you so much @netgalley, @blackstonepublishing, and @jenevaroseauthor for this ARC. This book was one of my many anticipated reads and it did not disappoint! It was such a fun and entertaining read, think of The Real Housewives meet Murder On The Orient Express. I adored these women, their drama and conversations, I felt like I was part of their clique! I loved how the story was told through multiple POVs because they each brought something different to the story. I admit I had a hard time keeping up with who was who at first because there are a lot of characters, but after a few chapters, it gets easier! My only critique is that the ending felt a little rushed, and I saw it coming, but I loved that Jeneva Rose kept us guessing until the very end. Overall this was a fun and entertaining book, and I recommend it if you’re a reality tv show lover!

This was a deliciously scandalous thrilling mystery of the social elite & man was I swept up in the drama, blackmail, deceit, & of course—violence. I was so impressed with the writing! The narration jumped back & forth between all the characters & the build up of each of them was impeccable.

Granted, some of the characters were honest to God the cringiest excuse for human beings ever & although not relatable, their horrendous actions were totally BELIEVABLE which kept me engaged the entire time wondering what this person was going to do next or how that person was going to retaliate on the other one … it was just one twist & turn & secret after another.

Oh, & the ending? Amazingly satisfying. Seriously, this book was truly unputdownable & I highly recommend everyone go buy a copy.

Rich & Bitchy & Here for it!
I just spent my evening and this morning absolutely devouring this book! The drama is piping hot and the characters feel like they were pulled right out of a reality TV show with all the allure that makes you keep coming back for more. The story felt like a mashup between The Real Housewives and When Life Gives You Lululemons with a nice side of murder thrown in for good measure. I could not pull myself away from the story. This is a must read for anyone who loves the drama!

One of Us is Dead is a super fun thriller... a Real Housewives who-dunit.

Jenny owns Glow... a high end beauty bar in the Atlanta suburb of Buckhead. Over the years, it has become exclusive and the ladies who go have to be members. Doing hair, makeup, tanning and more, Jenny has been privy to all the secrets and gossip of the rich women.

When someone is found dead, Jenny is interrogated by the police wanting to know everything she knows. Jumping perspectives between the woman and Jenny, and time frames pre-murder and post-murder, we get to see all the good stuff... who is cheating on who, which housewife hates others, how people really got their money, the backstabbing and cattiness.

This book definitely kept my attention and I could not put it down. My only complaint was the ending. It wrapped up real fast and the conclusion came out of left field for me with everything wrapped up in a little bow. I think it could have been a little longer to help make sense of how the ending came to be. I liked the ending, but think it a little exposition to show how it all came together would have made it even that more enjoyable.

Review of One of Us is Dead by Jeneva Rose

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This one is a wild ride packed with all the drama. Cheating spouses, murder, greed, hair salons, mean girls, you name it it has it. I listened to it and highly recommend the audio for this one. Most of the characters are despicable but refreshingly there are several very like-able characters in this one that you will find yourself rooting for. I enjoyed the overall plot and there were some good twists and a man overall satisfying ending though it seemed a touch rushed to me. She will remain an auto buy author for me.

Quick synopsis: Jenny owns an upscale salon in a southern Ga town. Her clients are a variety of extremely wealthy frenemies and Jenny has perfected taking care of their beauty needs as well as staying on everyone’s good side. But the secrets are abound and the truth about the seedier side of their town won’t stay buried for long.

Thank you so much to @netgalley and @blackstonepublishing for the advanced copy. This one is out April 26

One of Us is Dead ~ Jeneva Rose

READ IF:
* Your salon doubles as a social club.
* You are a devoted Housewives franchise fan.
* You love a good mimosa!

SUMMARY: The women of Buckhead love to hate each other. Despite the fancy cars, designer wardrobes, and huge houses - the women that frequent Glow salon are not happy unless they’re delivering passive aggressive digs or one-upping each other.

But when is enough enough? These women will stop at nothing to top the other and eventually one of them will fall from grace, right to her death.

REVIEW: This is Bravo’s Housewives meets Big Little Lies all the way! Liked The Girl I Was so was excited to see what Jeneva Rose cooked up with this one and is did not disappoint. The characters are deplorable, the gossip is salacious, the digs are deep, and the happenings around town unfold like a season of whatever Housewives franchise you love to binge.

A total guilty pleasure - fast chapters and and even faster paced plot made this hard to put down. I usually have trouble when a lot of characters are introduced at the same time but with distinguishable personalities, these ladies were easy to peg. Mindless fun with a naughty twist. This one comes out end of April - it’s a must for your summer stack. A perfect beach read!

Read this if...you enjoyed Big Little Lies and/or have ever had a "frenemy."

This novel alternates between the POVs of five very different women who are all in the same social circle. Shannon used to be the "it" girl until her politician husband left her for Crystal, a younger, more naive version of herself. Shannon doesn't take her divorce lightly and is bent on revenge. Olivia has been biding her time, waiting for Shannon's fall from grace so she can take her place as the queen bee. Olivia has no conscience and is willing to backstab anyone who tries to stand in her way. Karen is a real estate mogul with a postcard perfect family, but she can't get over the feeling that she's missing something in her life. Finally, there is Jenny, the black sheep of the group when it comes to her wealth. Jenny had to work for every penny she earned and started the upscale salon the women frequent.

These women all have secrets, which equates to some huge drama! There's lying, cheating, stealing, backstabbing, trash talking, murder-you name it! All the reader is told at the beginning is that someone has died, but it's not clear who, how, or why until the very end.

I started reading this one on my Kindle, but then switched to the audiobook and couldn't go back. There was a full cast that included some of my favorite narrators, and it was done so well! If you've never read Jeneva Rose, do yourself a favor and pick this book up as soon as you can! It’s out April 26th!

A big thanks to Netgalley, the author, and Blackstone Publishing for an ARC and ALC in exchange for my honest review!
