This story packs a punch on the first page and the pace never lets up. I always looked forward to picking it up because I knew I was in for a fun read for an hour or so.
Life Flight has everything you want in a romantic suspense novel: great pace, good suspense, the lead characters thrown into lots of danger and a developing romance. I particularly liked Penny as a character, a strong gutsy intelligent individual with a good career trying to help others. She's a helicopter pilot flying choppers for the local hospital and we get to see some tense action inside the chopper on a couple of times, particularly at the beginning.
Holt Satterfield, the love interest, was also an interesting character but I was a bit surprised by his struggle to engage in seeking to find further evidence in his sister, Zoe's case. Especially as his other sister was pestering him to get involved.
Penny and Holt met two years ago when she helped get Holt to the hospital after he was seriously stabbed by a criminal. They both took an interest in the other but nothing developed beyond professional working relationship. However, in this story they get to spend a lot of time together to discover more about each other.
I particularly liked Penny's ex-juvie friends, Grace and Julianna. The three were a good team and great friends who backed each other up at every opportunity.
The bad guy is very evil and is written well. Further, how he entraps others to assist him is cleverly portrayed by Eason and keeps us guessing.
There are some clunky pieces of plotting that surprised me a little and I wondered sometimes if the Penny/Holt relationship was being a little forced but overall I throughly enjoyed the first in this new series and I hope I get to the read the next one.
I was fortunate to receive an early ebook copy of the story from the publisher via Net Galley with no expectation of a favourable review.
I could not put down this book. So when the first book started the author went one way and I was kind of taken back at first being that fact that I wasn't sure where this book was going to take me. Then the author throws in a twist and sucked me right back in. I could not put down this book even tried talking to my non reader husband on date night about it. Just one of those stories that sticks with you. I really liked Penny and her close knit group of friends, it just seemed like not matter what one was going through they all were there for each other. I liked Holt oh man that guy had me yelling at him a few times but overall he was a good guy seeking out to do what was right for the world and his family. I am telling you if you are looking for a book that puts you on the edge of your seat, with twist and turns and keeps you guessing then you will not be disappointed by this book. This book is very much worth the read
Talk about jumping right into the action!!!! I felt like this book started right at the climax of the story!!! (It didn’t by the way, but it’s very cleverly written to feel that way… and then bang, plot twist!!!).
Action-packed, with high stakes and plenty of twists and turns, this may be one of Lynette’s best!!! She just seems to get better and better! And I loved that we met the characters after they had started dating! It gave a different flavour, and definitely added to the feeling that you’d been thrown into the middle of the story. And in case you’re wondering, no, it definitely didn’t take anything away from the romance. Very well done!
Loved everything about this one! Holt and Penny were great characters and their chase after a serial killer is both high octane and intriguing! Highly recommended!!!
Thank you @revellbooks and @netgalley for the ARC! I was only required to provide an honest review in return.
Within the first few pages of Life Flight, my anticipation for the following editions of the Extreme Measures series skyrocketed. Lynette Eason is a master of inspirational, high-octane action and suspense. The Blue Ridge Mountain setting was an added bonus. Scary, intense, twisted and intriguing backstories fully develop the teamwork and close friendships of characters I hope will have their own spotlights soon.
I received a copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.
Lynette Eason takes readers on a non-stop action journey again!
Penny Carlton is a pilot for life flight. Her passengers are always in a fight for their lives and she is determined to give each one every possible chance so she’s trained to be the best no matter the situation she faces.
When FBI Special Agent Holton Satterfield learns the serial killer he fought so hard to put away has escaped he drops everything to capture him again. When he learns the woman who has his heart has landed in the middle of the killer’s path he’s even more determined to find him, fast!
As we travel through the pages Holt and Penny discover they not only have a lot in common but they often think alike. Puzzling out whichever situation they’re navigating they discover they’re thinking the same things (they could probably finish one another’s sentences without trying.) So why won’t Holt trust her with his deepest hurt? Why is Penny hiding who her family is?
Eason moves readers from one high stakes moment to another action packed dramatic one. I found myself scratching my head at times but I like Penny’s character - imperfect, go getter, who’s remodeling her own home. There are multiple storylines running through the pages, to the point I wondered which Eason books I haven’t read (I’ve read them all!), but it gave the book dimension and kept me on my toes.
I enjoyed this story and am anxious for Raina’s.
Thank you, NetGalley, and Revell, for the opportunity to review this book and enjoy another great story by Lynette Eason!
This is another good romantic suspense from Eason. It starts out with a great suspenseful opening. Just when we think the action will settle down, we discover the evil villain is still very much in action. Part of the intensity of the plot is that the villain is after Penny, the heroine. She and our hero, FBI Agent Holt, have a history from previous events. Both of their back stories eventually come out but not in a timely manner. Since we get to know them well rather later in the novel, it was hard to find them engaging.
I had trouble liking Holt. He has a family situation he needs to come clean with Penny but he neglects to do so at every opportunity. An FBI Agent “frozen” by fear he might be rejected? I was also disappointed at Holt's lack of ingenuity in keeping Penny safe when it is so obvious the villain is smart and crafty in his attempts to get to her. I found it strange that a newspaper report had better ideas than the FBI. The lack of diligence on the FBI's part, letting Penny continue her helicopter work without adequate protection, led to much suspense. It's a pet peeve of mine when the villain doesn't have to work very hard to outwit law enforcement.
There is a side story involving Holt's sister. I am not sure that whole thing with the video worked out well. After all, the only fingerprints on the gun...
This new series is off to a relatively good start. The plot has plenty of suspense. It's a good novel for readers who love a great heroine and a valiant newspaper reporter and don't mind a somewhat inadequate FBI Agent.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the author. My comments are an independent and honest review.
Penny is a life flight pilot who typically works with her friends Raina and Holly. Other good friends are Julianna and Grace. Grace also works with Holt, both part of the FBI. This story starts with an emergency landing and tracking a fugitive and snarls quickly into trying to get information before one of them become a target, again. Many minor characters round out this story, including Darius, Joel, Sally, Frankie, and Kit, all tossed in among page turning twists that need answers that slowly get answered about the end of our journey through this one.
A complimentary copy was provided by Revell via NetGalley. A review was not required and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
"Life Flight" is the first book in Lynette Eason's "Extreme Measures" series. In this book, helicopter pilot Penny Carlton and FBI agent Holt Satterfield's paths continue to cross while searching for a serial killer. While trying to keep their minds on the pursuit, sparks begin to fly as well. I enjoyed the sweet relationship between Penny and Holt. Eason also did an excellent job of keeping the mystery and suspense coming as the serial killer catches up with them and takes Penny hostage. Overall, a very enjoyable and spellbinding book!
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
EMS helicopter pilot Penny Carlton is used to high stress situations, but being forced to land on a mountain in a raging storm with a critical patient--and a serial killer on the loose--tests her skills and her nerve to the limit. She survives with FBI Special Agent Holt Satterfield's help. But she's not out of the woods yet.
In the ensuing days, Penny finds herself under attack. And when news reaches Holt that he may not have gotten his man after all, it will take all he and Penny have to catch a killer--before he catches one of them.
My review: This book starts out with Penny transporting a critically injured teen to the hospital. She is forced to land due to a storm in the mountains. Unknown to her a serial killer is on the loose. Holt is sent in to rescue those on the helicopter and to look for the serial killer. They are rescued but now the serial killer has Penny in his sites as his next victim. Holt races again time to find the killer before Penny is the next victim.
This is a very fast paced mystery. I recommend it to all who love a great mystery.
I was given this book by Revell Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
A wonderful start to a new series by Lynette Eason! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was highly invested in the storyline throughout the novel. Life Flight is fast-paced and action filled with well-written characters. This novel is probably one of my favorites of her most recent books. Well done!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
4.5 Stars
What a wild ride. Truthfully, I did not expect this book to go the direction it did. The part I expected was "over" in the first 20%, but it got so much better. So many plot twists, surprises, and action-packed moments.
This book is definitely creepy and has some really eerie moments, <i> almost <i> too much for me. Definitely not one I was reading late at night, but it was still awesome. I just mentioned in case you're someone who likes suspense, but to a certain limit. There is a serial killer with sadistic patterns that are vividly described.
The faith is present throughout the book, but subtle. Both main characters are Christians and pray throughout the book and mention God, but there isn't a super large faith-based plot point.
I also didn't feel the chemistry between the characters until late in the book. It felt forced until about 60% or so. This could be a good thing if you're someone who doesn't like a ton of romance, but are okay with it being an underlying thing.
All this said, I was shocked how much I enjoyed this and how quick I read it...Definitely recommend if you're into romantic suspense and want Christian themes.
No language or sexual content, but violent/disturbing scenes are described in detail.
Ready for a book that is a race from page one to the end? Then you need to read Life Flight, the latest from best-selling author Lynette Eason. The pages race from a life flight that crashes in the North Carolina mountains to a race against time against a serial killer. Lace throughout are enough additional plot lines to keep the characters racing to figure out how to stay one step ahead. Layer in a blossoming romance, and this book has all the ingredients for a story I could not put down. I highly recommend this for those who love romantic suspense with enough twists to keep the most astute reader guessing.
This is such a heart pounding romantic suspense and once I picked it up, I didn't want to put it down.
The characters were easy to relate to, they felt real and were the type of people I would love to know in real life.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone!
What a ride! It almost felt like a crazy ride in a helicopter with all the suspense and constant plot twists. Things kept happening and I would think, “I did NOT see that coming!” I don't like things to be super obvious, but I do sometimes like to figure things out :) I barely got the last piece before it was revealed.
An odd thing about this book was that it seemed like we had met Penny and Holt before. There were references to another mission and backstory that made me feel like I had missed a book, even though this is book one. I didn't love that. I also felt like the whole side angle with Zoe was a bit of a distraction from the story and not really necessary. It was fun to “see” Daria again. A bit of book crossover for us.
The last thing I liked so much was the dynamic between Grace, Julianna, and Penny. It's so special and so sweet. I assume that we will see the other ladies' stories in future books and I look forward to it!
Life Flight is one of my favorite types of book – a stunning start to a whole new series by one of my goto authors. And this doozy does not disappoint.
Penny Carlton is an EMS helicopter pilot and fully used to landing in tricky circumstances. But when she’s forced to make a rough landing on the top of a mountain in the middle of a raging storm, things couldn’t get much worse. Except, well, there’s the patient who isn’t going to make it unless she gets to hospital very quickly, and an escape serial killer somewhere in the area.
What follows is a whirlwind of intrigue as the killer sets his sights on Penny. FBI Special Agent Holt Satterfield is determined to recapture the killer who almost cost him his life, and protect Penny in the process. However, he quickly learns Penny can take care of herself as she saves his life. But will they both survive as the man closes in, manipulating events to lure Penny into a trap she can’t escape?
I really enjoyed Life Flight. Penny is a great heroine, capable and strong, yet human and compassionate at the same time. Holt has a stunning work ethic and great capacity for caretaking without smothering. As the two draw closer, despite their lives being on the line, a beautiful friendship turns to more.
With some brilliant plot twists and extremely tight writing, this isn’t one to miss.

I always know that a book by this author is going to be exciting and the fact that this is the first book in a new series is great news!
Penny is a helicopter pilot and her friend Holt works for the FBI. They have been trying to figure out if they should give a relationship a go but with hectic schedules and some baggage in their respective pasts, they are both wary. And then, they get caught up in a case featuring a clever but nasty serial killer.
The shocks keep on coming in this tale and many times I wondered how they were going to manage all the situations that came their way. I love these two characters, they are just really lovely, but I also like that they are very human too.
4.5 stars, rounded up to 5.
Thank you to NetGalley and Revell.
Award-winning author Lynette Eason returns with the first installment in her new action-filled romantic suspense series.
In Life Flight, rescue helicopter pilot Penny Carlton never expected to crash-land her helicopter on a mountainside during a storm with a dangerous criminal hiding in the area. FBI Special Agent Holt Satterfield’s task is to prevent that escaped prisoner from using the helicopter to escape the mountains. Will Holt capture him before he kills others? Will the other rescue helicopter reach them in time?
From the gripping first page to its thrilling conclusion, the reader is engaged as Holt and Penny have narrow escapes, trying to evade the serial killer and his plans, while dealing with their own issues of the past. Penny and Holt dated briefly but haven’t seen one another for some time. Will they pick up where they left off? The addition of another plot line that affects their blossoming relationship adds to the twists and turns.
As expected, Eason creates an intense, edge-of-your-seat story filled with believable characters, faith elements, clean romance, tightly-written suspense, with plenty of plot twists to keep the reader guessing. Violence is present as one would expect in this storyline.
Themes of family, forgiveness, and the importance of relying on one’s faith in God to weather the storms permeate the novel. Readers will eagerly look forward to Crossfire, the second book in this series, coming in summer 2022.
Recommended for adult collections and fans of romantic suspense, especially fans of Lynn Blackburn, Elizabeth Goddard, and Dani Pettrey.
Disclaimer: Book reviews are written for books I either purchased or received free of cost from the publishers, publicists, or authors. I voluntarily reviewed this book, and my review represents my honest opinion.
This was so good! I loved both Penny and Holt and watching their story unfold. The suspense is high, as per Eason's usual, and keeps you on your toes! I couldn't put this one down. The flight medic aspect was really interesting to me and I enjoyed learning more about that job. The bad guy was very creepy and twisty and I was confused as to his identity for the longest time! Also, that cover! Absolutely gorgeous and definitely wins the book brownie points. All in all, well done, Eason! You've done it again. Highly recommend this book!
I love stories of redemption and several of the characters had experienced that in their younger years. The strong friendships that had been developed among those characters made for a richer story. The two main characters Penny and Holt are likable, and I was happy that they got their HEA. I also enjoyed reading about Penny's interactions with two of the helpful homeowners on the mountain. In fiction, as well as real life, there are good people who help out in bad situations.
The action and suspense in Life Flight are almost non-stop. The plot has twists and turns like an icy road up a steep mountain.
I enjoyed reading Life Flight. I highly recommend the book as it is up to the quality writing that I've come to expect from Lynette Eason.
I received a complimentary copy through NetGalley and am sharing my opinion of this well-written and exciting book.
So you know you can sometimes read "praise for" the book on the cover, right? Well, those endorsements promised that Life Flight could not be put down from page one. They were not wrong. Phwew!
In true Lynette Eason style, Life Flight starts off in the action. The reader is basically at the edge of their seat up to the last page. If you like that fast-paced romantic suspense then this one is for you. Penny Carlton's job is stressful, but add on a serial killer on the loose and things pick up a notch. It just builds from there. Holt is our hero and he's a swoony one at that, but with realistic flaws that make him all the more lovable. The plot in this one is full of surprises. So buckle up, hang on tight, and enjoy the ride.
Advanced Reader copy of the book was provided by the publisher via NETGALLEY. My opinion is my own.
