Extreme Measures book #1
A romantic suspense
I am a huge fan of suspense and a little bit of romance to soften the tension is always welcome Lynette Eason knows how to gives us both and even more. In this new series we read how EMS helicopter Penny Carlton while transporting a critical patient is forced to land on a mountain during a raging storm. On the same mountain, a recently escapee and serial killer is on the loose. Days later, Penny finds herself under attack and teaming up with FBI Holt Satterfield they set out to catch this killer before he catches them.
“Life Flight” is a wonderful and exciting start to a series. I love the idea to have a lead character as a female pilot who is the target of serial killer. From the start a lot happens to her in a short period of time. She is kind of a sleuth pilot, what a kick-ass individual she is, no surprise there it make a lot a sense since she is more or less a side- kick to FBI Agent Satterfield. Moving along the story is filled with heart –pounding rescues and most of all jaw-dropping plot twists to keep us going. Laced throughout are additional plot lines to keep the characters desperate to stay one step ahead of the killer. What a race from page one to the end. Yes, the story is also layered with blossoming romance.
This latest has all the ingredients for a thrilling edge-of your seat read. Nicely done.
This was a rollercoaster of a ride. From the very beginning Season has you on the edge of your seat and she never lets up.
I really liked how strong Penny was. Her tenacity and bravery were amazing. I liked Holt, but not as much. I felt like the idea was to make her character super strong and I felt like it diminished his, but that is my opinion. I like my heroes a little more on the alpha side than Holt was.
From helicopter rides to foot chases this book abounds in adventure. I was definitely never bored and the mystery and suspense were good. I never really figured any of it out until Eason spelled it out. I was impressed.
Overall this isn't one I would reread, but I would read another book in the series.
I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.
From the minute I started this book, I didn't want to put it down! This was an exciting, suspenseful story that kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. Penny is a life flight pilot who ends up entangled in a web of danger and intrigue. She is an awesome heroine. I loved how brave she was, and how she called it like it was. Her friendships were so well written. Holt is a great character as well. He had a lot going on, but seemed to do a good job of trying to prioritize what was important to him and be there for those he cared for. You won't want to miss this exciting ride! I can't wait for the next book in this series!
Life Flight the first book in the new Extreme Measures Series by Lynette Eason is an excellent Christian suspense romance. The story begins with a harrowing emergency landing in the NC mountains where a killer is on the loose nearby. What I thought would be the main plot of the story ends fairly early in the book but the suspense is just beginning. It is a fast paced keep you guessing read from beginning to end.
Helicopter pilot Penny Carlton and Special Agent Holt Satterfield were always only one step ahead of the danger making this a compelling read. I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop, even the bumps and rough times. This faith filled budding romance story was such an inspirational one when it did not have me concerned with the close calls they encountered.
Highly recommend this author to Christian Suspense fans out there. If you enjoy Susan May Warren, Irene Hannon and Lisa Harris like I do then you probably already have Lynette Eason on your TBR list. If not, like me again you will want to add her name starting with Life Flight.
The publisher through Net Galley provided a digital ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.
Having read many of Lynette Eason’s romantic suspense books in the past, I was eagerly anticipating Life Flight. Her books deliver dramatic, thriller-style events that have kept me engrossed and the suspense high. In Life Flight, she expounded on the gritty horrors of chasing a serial killer and kept me highly entertained, wanting to see the story through to the end!
I was immediately captivated by the heart-pounding excitement of the first chapter and delighted to find the intensity maintained at a fast-pace throughout this story. Eason introduces a strong female lead who’s creative, intelligent and fiercely determined; a lead I enjoy in books. The villain was especially heinous and there were many twists, turns, and surprises throughout. The faith-based elements of the story were simply a part of the character’s lives, making this story appealing to secular readers as well as Christian readers.
While I loved the intense drama, I had trouble connecting with and understanding the characters, their choices and their reactions to each other's personal struggles. Because the story starts off with high-stakes action, much of the characters’ backstory is revealed either slowly or late in the book (sometimes right after a high-intensity moment) which didn’t allow me time to get to know the characters intimately or understand their previously-formed bonds. As a result, many parts of the story felt forced, including the romance. Holt’s familial backstory took on a life of it’s own and at times, competed too much with the main plot.
Overall, this was a thrilling, excellent-pace story that I loved solely for the intensity and suspense. The characters were interesting and I enjoyed the strong female lead. The romance portion was mediocre and the subplots could have been more low key, but I do believe that is all subject to personal preference and it’s my recommendation that you definitely give this book a try for yourself!
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher. All thoughts below are my own
An interesting book for fans of FBI and other agency fans. It has the typical serial killer/known victim/cop format but does give a bit more skill and intelligence to the female protagonist. I enjoyed reading this and will read any books which follow in this new series by a popular author.
I received an ARC from Revel Publishing through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review and am under no obligation to do so.
I really liked that this book is focused on the helicopter rescue group yet still had FBI interaction and wasn’t just a man vs nature story. It was exciting and had a great sense of urgency. It was creepy and scary. It had an all around great balance and was a great read.
I liked both Penny and Holt. Penny had a lot of spunk and resourcefulness. She and Holt both felt real and authentic.
Eason’s style of writing makes everything so vivid. I felt I was right there. That can be a problem when you’re reading about a serial killer! Nobody deals with serial killers better than Eason. She brings them to life and gets your heart racing.
Thank you to Revell for providing me with a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
By far the best romantic suspense book I have ever read! Lynette Eason has taken her writing to a new level with this one and other authors’ best pay attention or get left in her dust.
Penny Carlton had a rough upbringing, and after spending time in juvie, she now spends her time as an EMS helicopter pilot. Her latest mission sends her out in a dangerous storm to pick up an injured and critical patient that will die if Penny can’t get her down the mountain in time. Something goes wrong with the helicopter and she is forced to set down on the side of the mountain and look for help. Unknown to Penny, a serial killer is on the loose and in the area. FBI Special Agent Holt Satterfield shows up just as the killer is getting ready to attack Penny. Together, they take the killer down but soon find out Penny is still in danger when they learn the person on the side of the mountain wasn’t the person they thought. With each passing hour, more clues come to light as Penny’s and Holt’s feelings for each other grow making the case even more personal and more dangerous.
With each new book, Lynette Eason has shown that she is a powerhouse when it comes to romantic suspense and is leaving others far behind. I keep saying each new book is her best, but it is true, and Life Flight is leaps and bounds ahead of her others. Some books have the ability to make a movie play out in my mind while I read, but those are few and far between. Life Flight was a great movie in my mind that I hated to see it end. The book started with the kind of action you see in the climax of most others that then peters off for the rest of the pages. But here it never petered out or slacked in any way, even to the last pages I never once felt the tension let up.
Penny is the kind of lead character that I absolutely love: strong, brave, and put into situations that seem impossible and yet she is able to come out the other side. The chemistry between main characters in a romantic suspense is a tricky thing; sometimes it works and sometimes it is just annoying. With Penny and Holt, it was smooth and easy, I never had an eye roll moment or anything to make me doubt the characters intention or action. I’ve read so many romantic suspense over the years and it is getting harder and harder to find romance between characters that doesn’t make me want to throw the book for lack of chemistry and realistic timeline. I am so happy with Lynette Eason and the way she is becoming better and better with each book! I hope other authors are looking to her for an example of how it is done. This is one of those books I wish I could give more than five stars too! I recommend this book to readers who love romantic suspense and Lynette Eason’s writing.
I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher. The views and opinions expressed within are my own.
A phone call destroys Holt's peace - the serial killer he helped to put behind bars has escaped. Worse still, he's heading for his old stomping ground, where terrible weather just happens to have grounded a chopper piloted by Penny, who helped save Holt's life when he was hunting the killer first time around. Though they've never fully explored the attraction between them, he can't face the idea of her being in danger. When the trail turns out to be a red herring, Penny is inevitably drawn into the investigation - but it grows increasingly clear that she's the killer's next target. Will they catch up with him in time, or will the killer ruin any chance of a future between Holt and Penny?
Look, I'll be honest - the serial killer is just plain creepy. The idea that anyone could act like that is horrific. It almost made me knock this down a star - but the relationship between Holt and Penny was good enough I couldn't, since it's not presented too graphically. So, it's an intricate and satisfying plot, enough uncertainty to hold one's interest without feeling like one has no idea how it all holds together, characters I enjoyed getting to know, and a few handy villains. An enjoyable romantic suspense story - recommended.
Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.
Life Flight, by Lynette Eason, starts out with a bang. As Penny Carlton and her crew attempt to transport a severely injured fifteen-year-old girl off the trails of Mount Mitchell, they have to crash land due to extreme weather. Due to a lack of funds for a satellite phone, the team cannot get a signal out to report their location. Penny will definitely have words with her supervisor when she makes it back to base!
At the same time that Penny is trying to find a new way to transport her patient to safety, Holt Satterfield, FBI agent, is heading up the same mountain. His goal is to capture Darius Rabor, an escaped prisoner who has already left several dead in his wake. When Penny and Holt finally meet up, they also cross paths with the prisoner. This final meeting results in the death of Rabor!
When her supervisor loses his job due to his incompetence, Penny is afraid she has a made an enemy. Adding this to her actions causing Rabor’s death and some dark moments from her past, she has much to fear. Her fear skyrockets when the FBI learns that the man Penny killed was not Rabor, but instead a look-alike. Now Penny and Holt must scramble to find this mass-murderer, before he continues to kill!
Will Penny’s past friendship with Holt come through to help as she tries to track down this murderer? You will be shocked to learn who else is part of these murders!
This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. But wow, what a great read! I was so intrigued I had trouble putting it down. Main character Penny has more grit than I can imagine. If I saw half of what she encountered -- dead bodies and serial killers -- I'd need counseling for life. Lynette Eason has become one of my favorites in romantic suspense.
Life Flight is the start of another fantastic series by Lynette Eason. It has everything you expect to find in a Lynette Eason book; suspense, action, twists and turns, Christian themes and romance. This was a great story with some really interesting characters. I also enjoyed the twists and turns throughout the story.
This book has a lot of twists and turns. What I like most about Lynette's writing is that just when you think you have it figured out, she throws in a red herring. It keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. The characters are likeable and relatable.
A young girl fighting for her life, a helicopter pilot making an emergency landing on a mountain due to the raging storm and an escaped serial killer – and that is just the beginning of this exciting story by Ms. Eason. Penny Carlton is the pilot along with Holly Cooper a nurse practitioner and Raina Price the critical care transport paramedic. Racing to catch the escaped killer is FBI Special Agent Holton Satterfield and his team. The capture becomes even more urgent when he learns that Penny, the woman with whom he is falling in love, is in the same area as the killer. Penny is a fighter and goes beyond what is expected to save her patient, but never planned on facing a killer. What will happen when the killer is taken out only to find that he may not be the one they were looking for? The story, the characters, the non-stop action…I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough waiting for the next event. A thrill ride from beginning to end! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Wow, Author Lynette Eason starts her new series Extreme Measures with title Life Flight. As soon as you start it you will find yourself on an adrenaline rush. When I started this book I read it all in one sitting til after 2 a.m. I just couldn't put it down.
The characters are flawed like we all are and this makes it even more realistic.
I enjoyed seeing EMS helicopter pilot Penny Carlton and FBI Special Agent Holt Satterfield's interaction. He was very protective of her, always having her back but in actuality I think she had his back more often, coming to his rescue many times. They have a good and respectful relationship, both working and personal.
Nonstop action in this one doesn't allow the characters for much down time. I did enjoy seeing the long standing relationship Penny has with her girlfriends and the time they spend together.
A wicked storm has Penny out in it trying to land her medical helicopter safely on a mountain. Her stress level is already up but she then finds out about a serial killer on the loose in the area she is in. The author writes with such talent her books are very intriguing.
I'll tell you one thing, I drink a lot of tea and I will never think of it the same way again.

Another fabulous series by Eason. I absolutely love that I started the new year with an outstanding book. The heroine is strong and intelligent. The hero knows how to recognize his equal in a woman and give her the respect she deserves. All of this subtle romance is happening while tracking a serial killer with a crush on Penny. There are wonderful secondary characters, that I hope get their own story, with a connection to Penny from her childhood. Despite all the action and puzzle pieces the book flowed quickly and I couldn’t put it down. I received my copy through Netgalley and provided my review honestly.
This is a pulse-racing, breath-holding suspense thriller with two strong protagonists. Penny Carlton is a helicopter pilot and EMT who has a deep attraction to FBI agent Holt Satterfield. Their attraction to each other has to be put on hold when Holt has to capture an escaped serial killer who seems to be targeting him and Penny. There are some twists and some really intense moments in the plot, so it was an absorbing book to read. I really enjoyed that the characters were totally fleshed out, including their family connections and their past mistakes. With a theme of forgiveness and family and hope for the future, this first book in a new series holds the promise for many more hours of mesmerizing entertainment and more than a few pounds of my heart. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys to be engaged in a life or death struggle against a wily foe.

Life Flight by Lynette Eason is a must-read for suspense and thriller fans. Intense and fast-paced, this story captivated me from page one. Penny Carlton is a helicopter pilot who becomes the target of a killer. FBI Special Agent Holt Satterfield is tracking the killer and teams up with Penny to keep her safe.
This story has everything I want in a thriller. Plot twists, danger, creepy criminals, action, and suspense all kept me hooked. But I still found time in the midst of the danger and drama to fall in love with the characters. Penny makes a fierce heroine and she saves the day on several occasions. She’s not helpless by any means. Holt has his own family struggles but discovers his love for Penny as the killer closes in.
You can’t go wrong with any of Lynette’s novels, but this is her finest story yet! I highly recommend this all suspense-lovers!
Overall Rating:
5 stars (I loved it, couldn’t put it down)
Suspense Rating:
5 stars (Non-stop edge-of-your-seat suspense from start to finish)
I received an ebook review copy of this book through Revell and NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
A thoroughly enjoyable read but I would have enjoyed a little more romance. There is danger and twists and turns aplenty so it kept my attention.
Life Flight by Lynette Eason was an action packed thriller that was full of unpredictability and suspense! The villain took Penny and Holt on a cat and mouse like chase which kept the suspense angle high. Danger seemed to appear around every corner and the villain seemed to be one step ahead of our characters. It made for some tense situations that were surprisingly chilling. The relationship between Holt and Penny wasn’t really much of a focal point of this book, so I wouldn’t say it was heavy on romance, but they spent a lot of time together and there was a growth in their relationship by the end of the book. The conclusion of this book was really intense, chilling, and full of suspense. It delivered that nail biting ending that I love as a Suspense Reader!
