A must for any fly-fisher. I will be buying this for all of my fellow fly-fisher in my life. I felt I could easily tell how much passion Dylan HS for fly-fishing and was left inspired by this collection of essays to visit these locations

Closer to the Ground, Dylan Tomine's story of a year lived close to nature in the Pacific Northwest, is one of my all-time favourite memoirs. So even before reading the first page, I suspected that I'd love Headwaters too. Even if I knew nothing about fly fishing. And despite being a lifelong vegetarian.

Headwaters is everything that nature writing should be: honest, graceful, and when needed, sobering. With no wasted words, it paints an immersive portrait of the landscapes, stories, and memories of a fly fisherman's experiences and adventures. I hope Dylan Tomine has more books to come.

A series of essays by Patagonia fly-fishing ambassador -- from reminiscences of fishing with his dad to stories about fishing in exotic places to musings on the loss of the steelhead population in the Pacific Northwest. Tomine's writing is engaging and entertaining, the stories range from humorous to depressing to suspenseful. My husband lamented the lack of attention other types of fly-fishing since the focus is clearly on steelhead fishing, but this would be a good book for any fly-fishermen/women.

As a lifelong fly fisherman, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the places the author fished that I can only dream about. Well written, described and reported. Totally authentic and believable.

As with most memoirs, I liked some parts more than others, but I really, the author did a good job painting a picture of why the government needs to take conservation action to protect fish and fish habitat. I never had thought about all the negative consequences of hatchery fish - having caught hatchery-raised trout all my life in Iowa. It does make sense why they are not good for the ecosystem, and detrimental to native populations - perhaps that is why Iowa does not have many native trout anymore, combined with overfishing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. At times I felt like I was standing next to the author while fishing. A great accessory to escape the doldrums of a rainy day.
