Detective Casey White is called to the scene where someone found a dead body. When she sees the body, Casey is stunned--it's her ex-husband, Ronald. But who killed him and why. And what was he doing in the Outer Banks when he lives in Philadelphia--and does it have anything to do with their missing daughter Hannah? Casey finds clues that Ronald had found information on what happened to their daughter. When a fire destroys her boyfriend Jericho's house, and nearly kills them both, Casey is sure what Ronal found got him killed and she needs to find out what he found and hopefully finally find Hannah.
A Finale. Without going *too* deep into spoiler territory, by the end of this book the long-running mythos surrounding Detective White achieves a resolution - and not only that, but several other character arcs seem to be wrapped up as well. So much so that this book ends feeling like a series finale - until you hit the author note at the back, confirming that the author *is* working on the next book in this series. Which means that this book isn't so much *series* finale as "season" finale, and I for one can't wait to see what else the author cooks up from here.
As to this particular tale, yet again Spangler manages to craft a fairly inventive way to murder, and yet again the mystery here is quite wide ranging and explosive - and based on at least one real world situation that I am aware of, that went on at least as long before it was detected. (Though to be clear, I am not aware of any murders happening in the real world variant to preserve the secret... though it is at least theoretically possible.)
But the real stars of this series are White and her team, and here they yet again step up and provide much of what makes this series so great. Yes, Spangler is solid on the mysteries and murders, but it is in this part, in developing the entire cast of characters and their relationships, that Spangler truly excels and indeed (possibly arguably) overcomes the limitations and perceptions of this genre. Very much recommended.
B.R. Spangler's Casey White Series keeps raising the bar on other series! Just when you think the author cannot push Casey any further... WOW! Casey and her team are called to investigate a rather strange murder... and it gets more awful when Casey realizes it is her ex-husband. Whilst at the scene, they find another body, murdered in a similar fashion. Not sure what they have on their hands, Casey, Nichelle, Emanuel, and Tracy work together to discover what links these deaths. As always, providing the backbone to this series is Jericho - one of my all-time favorite characters. The relationships between the characters keeps developing and it's fascinating to read... and where the author ended the book.... I cannot wait to see what's next for Casey.
Detective Casey White is back !! I was so excited to see another book in this series! I absolutely love Casey, Tracy, Nichelle and Emmanuel. This is one of the best series I have read! It has the perfect amount of mystery, suspense and great story lines in every single book. Casey is back and on the hunt for who killed her ex-husband and is killing people that work at Rourke Memorial. Is it a simple case of revenge or is there something much more sinister going on?? So many twists and turns and a long awaited ending to Casey finally finding out what happened to Hannah. Loved this book and love this series!!
Detective Casey White has been living and working in the Outer Banks since a clue to her missing child's whereabouts drew her there. Divorced from Hannah’s dad after the kidnapping of their three-year-old daughter tore their marriage apart Casey has been searching alone ever since, or so she thought.
When a body is found on the saltmarshes of the Outer Banks, Casey is horrified to recognise it as that of her ex-husband, Ronald Haskin. Was he searching for Hannah without Casey’s knowledge or did he have another reason for being there?
As the body count rises information begins to emerge which leads the detectives to an almost unimaginable discovery and a group of people desperate to remain hidden at all costs. Casey is determined to avenge Ronald's death but when boyfriend Jericho and other members of her team are put in danger she knows everything she holds dear could disappear before she can finally fit it all together.
Wow! This is the fifth in B R Spangler's brilliant Casey White series and without spoilers it is almost impossible to comment on why I loved it so much. To enjoy it to its fullest however, it is best to have already read at least the first book.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is a must read for fans of the series.

Thank You! Thank You..... For feeding my Casey White addiction!
Spangler has been a favorite of mine since reading book one Where Lost Girls Go
And Detective White is my favorite badass
Book five is even better than the first four!
A intriguing police procedural whose lead Detective Casey White is a favorite with many!
This was one of those books I couldn't put down.
If you like a fast-paced, eventful book, put this on your TBR shelf. Not only is the story well told, with lots of connections and details, without ever dragging, the main characters are substantial and well-developed.
This book was very well written since everything tied together so well even though so much happened in it. I look forward to reading future books in this series.
Spangler is a favorite of mine and I will read anything this man writes!
When Casey and the team are called to Buxton Woods to investigate a body found she is horrified to see it is her ex husband Ronald. Why has he come to the island and why has he been murdered. And has it anything to do with their daughter Hannah's disappearance 15 years previously. The case takes Casey through some tough times both professionally and personally. I loved the interactions with the team and between Casey and Jericho. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and Casey has to draw on all her experiences to overcome this case. Loved the way the ending draws us into wanting to know what's next for the team.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review
The Memory Bones by B.R. Spangler is the fifth book in the Detective Casey White series. This is a fascinating murder story. There's plenty of action and suspense. The lead character Detective Casey White's case involves the murder of her ex-husband as part of the case. I enjoyed following along as Casey and her team solved the murders. Loved the surprise ending!
I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.
I thought this was a very well written and engaging book and felt it got off to a great start and certainly grabbed and held my attention right from the beginning. Detective White investigates a murder where the victim has an old and very personal connection to her. When more bodies are found Casey and her team have their work cut out trying to solve the case. I really enjoyed this book, the characters are so likeable, believable and so realistically portrayed. An ongoing thread from the first book finally came to a conclusion here and gosh it was certainly worth waiting for. I loved the authors writing style and thought the story flowed really well and raced to a satisfying conclusion with all loose ends tied up nicely. Overall, a great fast paced and thrilling read with a very well thought out plot line and a book that certainly lived up to my expectations and didn’t disappoint in any way at all. I think this is the best book in this series so far and the author has really wrote a cracker of a book that was entertaining all the way through. I would highly recommend this book and series and look forward to the next one.
Boom 💥
This series gets better with every single book. And boy did the author put us through the ringer. I am really invested in the characters, Detective Casey White deserves a wee bit of peace.
I will not do spoilers but it’s A MUST Read!!!
Wow this series keeps getting better, and with this one you get to see the characters more alive and emotional then ever before, even though I did kind of guess a part of it about one of the characters , I didn't know or guess the rest of it . As for the twists and turns they helped keep me wanting to read the book and the way the author wrote how the killer, let's just say it also helped with the slow build up of why all of this happened and who was involved.
The best of the series so far, this one holds the answers fans have been waiting for. You are going to find out what happened to Hannah.
This one packs an emotional wallop in many ways. Fast paced action, suspense, tension, and twists keep you guessing until the end. Casey has grown a lot since the first book and it shows here. I also love the relationship she shares with Jericho. The ending was great and leaves you wondering how things will continue from here. I can't wait to find out.
Did someone say book 5 of the Casey White series?? Pub date 2/12/21
Thank you to netgalley, B R Spangler and Bookouture for the digital advanced copy of the memory bones in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.
Casey and her team attend a suspicious death on the island, Casey is shocked to discover its Ronald. Unaware he had returned she can only assume his death is related to their missing daughter Hannah. So when more bodies start turning up she can't help but wonder if they are connected and if so how?
So much about this book I loved and too much to fit in one review. Let me start by saying if you haven't read books 1-4 stop reading this review and start reading them.!
Sprangler has a way of writing that always has me hooked from page one. The way the prose is narrated is flawless often reading the chapters it feels like we are hearing a detailed report from Casey our detective friend and I love it! This series is one of my favourite and my investment in Casey finding her missing daughter has me in so many conspiracy theories it's that good! I found this installment we get to witness a different side to casry a softer side and also more determine than ever. She clearly has complex feelings towards her ex husbands death and it was great reading them without them being labeled.
Also her amazing team and partner are for ever present and I think I'm in love with Nichelle! I loved how all the secondary characters lives were progressing and really brought weight behind each of them.
The case this time was an interesting one involving ropes and games as a method of murder. I will say I felt they slow walked a little bit with what, to me, felt like an extremely obvious investigation but I didn't mind it was slow just mire build up.
I laughed, gasped even cried whilst reading this installment and found myself re reading entire chapters to let ir sync in. It was just so well written and it had me on edge throughout with anticipation and it didn't let me down!!!
Honestly this is my favourite so far in the series so really should be rated 5+ as all prior recieved 5 stars from myself.
If you love crime thrillers with interesting killings and an few twists then you will enjoy the memory bones. If you've read the prev books then you're already committed!! Dabs of Lisa Regan, Carla Kovach, Wendy Dranfield and Helen Phifer will love this series 5 stars
Detective Casey White’s past drives the plot of The Memory Bones, fifth in the series but a superb standalone thriller. Casey immediately recognizes a body found bound, tortured and killed in the marshes as that of her ex-husband. When his car is located near the police station, she realizes he was coming to see her and she knows there is only one reason for that. He must have discovered new information about their daughter Hannah, kidnapped years ago. Then another body is found with links to a local hospital. Her team suspects a serial killer after someone else is reported missing. How is Hannah’s disappearance related to the bodies in the salt marsh? And… is Hannah still alive?
This series keeps getting better! I’m looking forward to the next Casey White thriller because of the changes that have been made to her team. The Memory Bones, with an atmospheric setting in the Outer Banks, is a solid thriller. 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and B.R. Spangler for this ARC.
When Detective Casey White is called to a murder scene in the Outer Banks saltmarshes, she’s devastated to find the strangled body of her ex-husband—father of her missing daughter Hannah. And nearby, an older, unidentifiable body is buried too… but how are these bones linked to her ex?
WOW! What a rollercoaster ride this book was!... Totally gripped from the beginning… Grab yourself a copy of this book! I absolutely loved this! What a fantastic plot, beautifully written, intertwining the relationships between the characters in such an ingenious and realistic way.
Great book!! I've read a few books in this series now and I absolutely loved them! This book had it all! Suspense, intrigue, action and so many twists and turns! I thought my heart was going to pound out of my chest in the rope scene with the girls!! geez it was a nail biter!! I highly recommend reading this book and series! Its well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Detective Casey White is the classic conflicted heroine, with her personal life as complex and difficult as her professional one. When she rolls up on a new case, she’s shocked to discover that the murder victim is her ex husband. Compounding the situation is the fact that their daughter has been missing for some time, and another, older body is found nearby. Casey’s investigation reveals that her husband had uncovered information about their missing child. Is that why he was killed – to silence him? When forensics come back on the other body, Casey learns that it belonged to the same nurse that delivered her daughter. Determined to find her child and the reason the nurse and her ex were murdered, Casey disappears down a rabbit hole, willing to burn everyone and everything to the ground to get to the truth
