Marry Me, Millie by Amy Lillard is the first book in her Paradise Valley series.
Millie Bauman and Henry King decide to go along with their matchmaking families. Will pretense lead to love?
Amy Lillard’s Marry Me, Millie is a sweet romance. The characters are well-rounded, believable, and likable. Amish culture is smoothly integrated and authentically represented by characters with real-life situations. I enjoyed the story, give it 4 out of 5 stars, and recommend it to all readers of Christian romance.
My thanks to Kensington Books, Zebra, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
This is the first book in a brand new series Paradise Valley by Amy Lillard. I really enjoyed reading this story. It is a sweet Amish romance and I was hooked from the beginning. I loved all of the characters in this story. I couldn't put it down I kept reading faster to see what was going to happen next. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
This is a great beginning to a new series by Amy Lillard. Millie is a young, pregnant widow. She vows to remain single after her husband dies unexpectedly. As we all know, sometimes our plans don’t go exactly as we hoped. If you enjoyed Amy Lillard’s Wells Landing series, you will love this new one! I can’t wait to meet the rest of the characters in Paradise Valley.
I want to thank the author, Kensington Books and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
I got this book because I love this author and have enjoyed everything I have read from her to date. Even the ones that aren't my fave I have enjoyed.
This book is the first in a series and definitely a great start. I really liked getting to know the characters and look forward to seeing some of the secondary ones in future books. The main romance along with all the match making efforts to get it started was such a joy to read. The characters weren't overly naive or "dumbed down" to to make this work. Their backstory and the growth of their relationship is solid and enriches this story.
The secondary romance is a delight. I love that it does not take away from the main storyline but enhances it and brings an added delight to the book
Bonus at the end of the book are a few desert recipes mentioned in the book. As a baker this is a treasure to me.
I really enjoyed reading and meeting the characters of Amy Lillard's new series, Paradise Valley starting with the first book, Marry Me, Millie.
A group of women that are friends call themselves the "Widows Club" these women have all endured the heartache of widowhood and are helping each other back onto their feet with friendship and encouragement when needed. Pregnant young widow, Millie Bauman is a faithful woman running a B&B in the Amish community of Paradise Valley, Missouri.
She is excited about her baby arriving soon and get's help running the B&B from her Aunt Sylvie.
I loved seeing the ladies of the widows club making their whoopie pies each week, they can get pretty competitive about which flavors are the best.
Millie is content with life but then she meets Henry King who is in town just until family business is complete.
I enjoyed seeing how Millie and Henry, two souls dealing with heartache, compliment each other as they work through problems and grow together through faith and romance.

Millie Bauman is a recent widow who is also six months pregnant. She has moved to Paradise Valley and is staying with her Aunt Sylvie who runs a bed and breakfast. Sylvie is also working on recipes for the upcoming Whoopie Pie Festival because she wants to continue her winning streak. She is trying multiple flavors in order to find the winning combination. Henry King has come to Paradise Valley to help his grandfather and convince him to move to Oklahoma. He is also trying to get over his heartbreak at losing his fiancé. She decided to go on a mission trip to Belize rather than marry Henry. Both Henry and Millie have decided that marriage is not for them. Sylvie decides that Henry is perfect for Millie. She teams up with Henry’s grandfather, Vern to play matchmaker. They conspire to make sure that Henry and Millie manage to “bump” into each other (often). Marry Me, Millie by Amy Lillard is the first novel in the Paradise Valley series. I thought Marry Me, Millie was well-written with developed characters. Amy Lillard created some delightful characters. I thought they were realistic and relatable. Millie is six months pregnant and still grieving the loss of her husband. She decided a fresh start was needed. Millie did not count on her Aunt Sylvie and the ladies of the Whoopie Pie Widows Club. They are a romantic bunch as well as gossips. I loved the humor in the story. I laughed frequently while reading Marry Me, Millie. I liked the dialogue and the various storylines. Marry Me, Millie has a good ending. I am looking forward to the next novel in the Paradise Valley series. There are recipes at the end for some of Sylvie’s baked goods. Marry Me, Millie is a sweet story about faith, loss, family, hope, friendship, and new love. Marry Me, Millie is an amusing Amish tale with wordy widows, whoopie pie competitiveness, a meddling matchmaker, a determined dawdi, and a gracious God.
Marry Me, Millie is a wonderful start to a new series! I really liked Millie and Henry, as well as Sylvie and Vern, who were side characters but were definitely involved in getting these two together.
Henry and Millie were both grieving in their own ways. Henry had been dumped a couple of months before he was to be married and Millie was a young, pregnant widow. They both had given up on the idea of finding love again. Yet, these two really hit it off right away and it was clear that they were developing feelings for each other.
Millie had a lot of emotional ups and downs in the book, yet it made a lot of sense as she was dealing with quite a bit. Henry was a character that I couldn’t help but like right away. He was definitely a good and patient man.
The author has introduced another charming Amish community with this book. I’m looking forward to reading more stories in this setting.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Two young Amish people are suffering loss when their family members try to push them together. Millie moved to live with her Aunt Sylvie after the death of her husband. Sylvie runs an inn and Millie is helping her. She was tired of the pitying looks that she was getting in her hometown. Since his death, she found out she is pregnant but never wants to marry again and feels that she can raise her baby alone. Henry's fiancée called off their engagement to move to Belize and work as a missionary. Now he is living in Paradise Springs, Missouri, helping his grandfather Vern and hoping to convince him to move to Oklahoma to live with his family but Vern isn't interested. Sylvie and Vern decide the two young people need each other so they work to set them up. This is a sweet, funny story as the two decide to pretend to go along with their family members because they do enjoy their friendship even though they do not plan to ever marry. Between whoopie pie contests, the widow's club, and hormones, this story has humor and romance. A great new series to look forward to.
I received a complimentary ARC from Kensington Books, Zebra, and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
Marry Me, Millie by Amy Lillard will have you laughing out loud while you fall in love with the characters. Millie is a young, pregnant widow who moves to her Aunt Sylvie's house to help her run the B&B that she has. Hoping to be seen as more than a widow, she gets to know the other members of her new community, including the members of the Whoopie Pie Widows Club. Several women meet weekly to eat whoopie pies and visit. There is even a Whoopie Pie Festival, with a contest for the best whoopie pies, which Aunt Sylvie is the reigning queen of. When Henry King comes to town to stay with his grandfather, Vern, everyone thinks that he and Millie would make a great match. The trouble is, both of them are stubborn and believe they should be alone in life. To keep them from match-making, however, the two decide to visit and become friends. When that friendship moves onto something more, though, both have to reevaluate what they thought God's plan for them in life was. Full of hope, laughter, and goodness, Marry Me, Millie will leave you wanting to read more! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read the book. All opinions are my own.
This was one of my favorite stories this year. I love Milly and Henry and Sylvie and Vern. This story will make you laugh and cry. I love everything about this story. You will not want to put this down. This is very inspirational. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
This is a Clean Amish Romance, and this is the first book in the Paradise Valley series. I really loved the characters in this book. Millie was learning to move on after losing her husband and finding out she was pregnant. Millie as decided she would never get married again. The woman Henry loved and was to married leaved him, and he is left to figure out how to move on. The storyline was cute and fun to read. There is a lot of food talk in this book, but I enjoyed the food talk in this book. I felt the food talk was put into this book very well. This ending kept you wanting to keep reading. Great book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Zebra) or author (Amy Lillard) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Marry Me, Millie is the first book in a Amish new series by Amy Lillard--Paradise Valley. Henry has been jilted by her fiance, and Millie has recently lost her husband and found out she's expecting after his death. They're both newcomers to Paradise Springs, Missouri. Millie will make a new life helping her aunt with her B&B, and Henry is there to help his grandfather until after the harvest. Will either of them find love again?
I have read other books by this author, and this wasn't my favorite, but it's still a fun story. It did seem like there was some repetition in it.
I was given a free copy of #MarryMeMillie by#NetGalley. All opinions expressed herein are strictly my own. A big thank you for letting me review this book.
Delightful read and story. One of loss, matchmaking, love and second chances.
One book that I could not put down.
I received this book from the author and I am under no obligation to give a positive review.
I enjoy books by Ms. Lillard, one of my favorite authors of Amish romances. I love returning to series I'm involved in and starting a new series when there's a blank canvas and I don't know where I'll be taken. Marry Me, Millie is the first book in the Paradise Valley series and the story takes place in Missouri but has ties to Wells Landing in Oklahoma as well.
Marry Me, Millie has many stories being woven together with matchmaking at its core. Millie is widowed and very pregnant and is staying at her aunt's B&B to help her with it and get Millie away from her sorrows of where her husband was hurt and died from his injuries. There is a ton of baking going on along with lots of gossip, small town businesses and activities, prayers and church Sundays, farming and ultimately romance and love on several fronts. For a small town there are a lot of widows and widowers.
There is a lot of attention to detail in the telling of the story. There are vivid and colorful descriptions and I could taste some of the whoopie-pie flavors as they are discussed. There is a depth to the characters especially when it's hard to know their thoughts. Communication among Millie and Henry was often difficult and it doesn't help that everyone has them in a romance and married when they first meet. It was nice to see their friendship evolve but hard to see him pushed away by Millie when she's faced with adversity and thinks it's her decision to make of how her life will proceed.
There are twists and turns to the story and I liked how Henry's grandfather was woven throughout but not how he was sometimes portrayed as feeble or forgetful. He had a strange way of trying to help bring Henry and Mollie together! There were several happily ever afters and nice closure especially with the epilogue. I liked the cover. I also like knowing we'll be back in Paradise Valley again!
4 stars
Marry Me, Millie
Amy Lillard did it again! A very well written and nice Amish read. I thought I knew exactly what was going to happen, but there were a few surprises along the way! I hope this turns into a series because I would like to see the changes with Sylvie and her niece Millie.
I really liked the addition of the older couple, as far to many Amish books revolve around young love and early adulthood. The character development was very good and the book drew me in from the first page.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and Netgalley.
This is a wonderful start to a new series. It's a fun read with just the right amount of drama to make it a book that you don't want to put down. If you are looking for a wonderful Amish romance, grab this book.
I received a complimentary copy from Kensington Books, Zebra via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I received my copy from NetGalley/publishers! I was so excited to get the copy, cause she is one of my favorite authors.
I loved the cover and the characters. I really like the characters name Millie, that's a different name I don't hear in the other Amish books..I like hearing different names to.
Whoopie pies abound in this book! Millie is recently widowed and pregnant. She lives with her maiden aunt at the B&B. She meets Henry, and her aunt is persistent in trying to bring them together. Will they be able to overcome the difficulties that lie in their paths?
This story quickly became a page turner for me, I had to know how things were going to work out!
So much tragedy in Millie Bauman's young life, I can't even imagine loosing my husband and then finding out that I was pregnant, but with her faith she moves in with her Aunt to help run her B&B,
Enter Henry King, a young Amish man tasked with getting his grandfather to leave Missouri and move to Oklahoma. He is also decided that marriage is not for him, after being jilted.
This story keeps on giving, filled with whoopie pies, matchmaking, gossips, and a sweet baby, and in the end we are offered sweet romance! This is a wonderful story to get lost in!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Kensington, and was not required to give a positive review.
This is a very sweet read about couples finding each other after experience profound loss. Lillard writes very human characters who have many facets. No cardboard cut out one note characters. I found this an enjoyable quick read.
