This book was heartbreaking and disturbing and powerful all rolled into one. Very unputdownable and a great mystery!

This was a book. It had words. The words went together to fork sentences. Those sentences made paragraphs. Eventually it was a story.

The YA mystery thriller, "The Liars Beneath," left me with chills as the plot unfolded, showcasing an incredible number of twists and turns that had my heart racing. Despite initially doubting my enjoyment, the story's progression, especially following protagonists Ben and Becca, kept me engaged. While I managed to guess the killer, the unexpected events throughout the book heightened the excitement, and Becca emerged as a strong and resilient protagonist with a rare depth for a YA novel.

Despite Becca and Ben's somewhat generic portrayal, their relationship intrigued me, and I found myself shipping them. In the midst of the book's darkness, Becca's parents offered a refreshing breath of relief, portraying stern, caring, and realistic family dynamics. Heather skillfully maintained a grounded and realistic tone amid the mystery and suspense, avoiding an unrealistic portrayal.

Not for the faint of heart, "TLB" comes with content warnings, making it a perfect read for fans of young adult mysteries and suspense. It will particularly appeal to enthusiasts of Karen McManus and Holly Black.

I would say if you are a fan of YA thrillers I feel like this would be for you- I tend to be very hit or miss with YA and this one fell completely down the middle. But I wouldn’t not recommend it?

Becca's best friend has died. and at the age of 17 all she wants to do is wallow in her sadness.. She hears things about Rose and wants to set the record straight but Rose's mother, Ginger, has no interest as she is always looking for her next boyfriend. Rose's brother is not much of a help. In Becca's determination to clear Rose's name so much is revealed about the town and it's inhabitants. A good read.

DNF. This book just didn't grab me. I love the creepy cover art. The story opens at the funeral of Becca's best friend, whose tragic death has broken Becca's life apart. She reluctantly teams up with Ben, her friend's older brother, to figure out what really happened.

Somehow the writing style just did not work for me. I found my attention wandering and ultimately decided to set it aside. I think it would be suited to fans of YA thrillers. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read the book.

The Liars Beneath is a nice little suspense novel. If you are looking for an easy read, I recommend. The novel uses all the usual YA tropes, and the characters are not too deep. It is easy to follow and can be put down and picked up easily.

There's a hint of young love in The Liars Beneath, a twisted, dark YA thriller. There are layers to each character and they all feel like people you'd hang out with.
When you live in a small town in Iowa, everyone knows everyone. It's hard to keep secrets, but some are deadly. Our main character, Becca, has some troubles and discovers some other people's, while on a quest to find out just what really happened to her childhood friend, Rose. And maybe some are left uncovered?
With all its twists and turns, this story yanked me out of a readers block and made me fall in love with it. There were times when I had to reread a page, but I was so lost in the story that I didn't mind.

I honestly requested this book because of the spooky cover. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did but I’m so glad I did. It is young adult so I did struggle with the characters but overall it was such a fun thriller. This book reminded me so much of Pretty Little Liars, which I really enjoyed.

in The Liars Beneath, 17 year old Becca Thompson is grieving the unexpected and suspicious death of her best friend, Rose. Rose's brother, Ben, arrives back from college to try to convince Becca to help him in discovering what secrets his sister had been keeping from even those closest to her as well as what really happened the night she died. Becca reluctantly begins to see that Ben might have reasons the concern that his sister was unjustly murdered, instead of the accident the authorities state as fact, as well as her misjudgment of the place that Ben held in her past, future and within her heart.

The story was compelling and I wanted to keep reading to discover all of Rose's and Becca's secrets. I did read an ARC provided from NetGalley, so I am hoping that all of the grammar mistakes that were evident in the beginning chapters were corrected. One mistake that should be clarified is that there is a referral in the book about Plan B being used for abortions, however that is not correct. Plan B only works to prevent a pregnancy and does not affect a developing pregnancy (this is especially important for those YA readers who might be reading, to receive accurate information). I really loved the detailed characters and was rooting for Becca and Ben to find closure as well as happiness while working through their grief together, however, near the ending, it was disappointing to find the characters didn't learn that continuing to lie wouldn't be to their benefit, with many problems continuing that could have easily been resolved with telling the truth. The ending has a satisfying conclusion, however, it does go about it in a round about way.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest, personal opinion. Becca is grieving the loss of her best friend Rose. Questions surround Rose's demise especially from her brother Ben. Rose had secrets and there are twists and turns to get the answer Becca and Ben both seek. The trouble I encountered with this book was that Beccas maturity was lacking and the book was a bit slow to start out. It does pick up nearly half way through, and I stuck with it to see if I was right about the killer. Be advised that there may be some triggering material for some readers.

Not having the best of luck with YA Thrillers lately. This is another one that didn't work for me. Maybe I'm just not into the genre anymore. Or right now. I may return to give it another try later as I'm a big believer in returning to give books another chance. Some of them have become favorites. If you enjoy the basic YA Thriller and Romance then you should definitely give The Liars Beneath a chance.

Thank you for the opportunity to review The Liars Beneath.

I'm torn with giving this book 4 or 5 stars. I loved the whole idea of this book. Youngsters doing bad things, secrets, lies, daring stupid teenage stuff. And the twist at the end was excellent...every last character seems to be off their rocker. At the same time the stupidity of it all. Like there is no way those kids wouldn't have rated out their friends at a drop of a hat. Secrets like that don't stay hidden that long especially in a small town. And sometimes they made the stupidest decisions ever. But then again they are teens. 🤷‍♀️

The Liars Beneath follows high school student Becca, whose best friend tragically died recently. Becca is wallowing in her grief until Rose's older brother, Ben, returns home, convinced Rose was actually murdered. Ben sets out to discover the truth behind Rose's death and Becca reluctantly agrees to help him. Along the way Becca learns that her best friend was hiding more secrets than expected, with dire consequences.

This was a pretty good thriller. It had a nice hint of suspense to it, and a good amount of romance. I liked the flashbacks and how they helped add foreshadowing. There were a couple twists I was not expecting and I thought the story did a good job of keeping you guessing what had really happened and who could be trusted. The book was atmospheric and had a satisfying ending.

This was a twisty, unexpected, suspenseful, YA dark thriller that kept me on my toes! I’m going to be completely honest, but I didn’t REALLY feel like this was a young adult book (maybe I haven’t read enough YA), but I truly think that older audiences would read this and enjoy it. I almost thought some parts of the book were too mature and disturbing for a YA audience, but that’s my opinion.

I loved this book because it was a page turner, and it kept me engaged the whole time. I NEEDED to know what was going to happen next, and what drama was going to unfold with whom. This book definitely made my heart race a little, which is something I always LOVE when reading a mystery/thriller.

I do however wish that there was a little less ‘romance’, as I wasn’t really interested in that aspect of the book. The characters weren’t my favorite, but I didn’t dislike them. If anything, I became a bit annoyed with Becca and her attitude towards her parents and Ben. At times I found some of the “twists” predictable, but it was still a great read.
