This is such a fun take on Taming the Shrew but much more emotional and sexy. You have a heroine who is trying to keep her childhood home and a hero who wants to have a relationship but is scared of falling in love. It’s such a fun sexy book. The side characters are so fun and I love aunties in a book. I’m really looking forward to the next book in this series.
This was a fun read that made me laugh out loud. I liked that the characters are able to achieve their goals under their own steam. This is a diverse read that embraces the Desi community. The sex scenes are very steamy and a little over the top in my opinion.
This book really didn’t work for me.
Mostly because I couldn’t stand Prem (Dr. Dil).
He was SO into himself.
Because he has a medical degree he literally thinks everyone wants him or wants to set him up with their children: “It sounded pretentious, but he was aunty catnip, and he barely made it out of social gatherings unscarred.” And another time while talking to Kareena: “I may look gorgeous and have a medical degree, but I also have a sensitive side.”
Also he thinks about and refers to his penis as “Charlie”. Just absolutely no. No. No. No. ew and yuck.
But the ultimate to me is that even though Kareena corrects him more than once on the fact that her name is Kareena, he insists on calling her Rina because he “prefers Rina”. And he constantly uses it so patronizingly “Rina, honey, sit down”…”Not on your life, Rina, honey.” Ugh.
This was a fast-paced, charming, funny, spicy romance novel, and I can't wait to read more by this author! I loved the chemistry between the main characters, and the emotions were so realistic. There were so many great comparisons to Taming of the Shrew but the author went above and beyond in making this her own story. I also loved the characters' discussion of Indian culture, parental expectations, and the push and pull between arranged marriages and love marriages. The author skillfully wove all of this in without being preachy.
This is a must read for any fan of romance books!
This was really cute! I liked the main character grown thought the book as well as the relationship that develops between the two main characters.
Unfortunately, the MMC talks about his dick in third person. Meet Charlie. The first time I thought the author messed up the MMC's name, the second time I thought it was a new character but nope, just a 30- something year olds talking about his member as if they were a real person.
Overall, I really enjoyed this light hearted, high heat story.
Side note, this book is best read on a full stomach because the descriptions of food made me so hungry. I really wished the author included recipes in the back of the story.
After reading a plethora of Thrillers and Horror books during the #spookyseason I knew I would need to pick up a fun, lighthearted, smutty romance book and Dating Dr. Dil gave what it needed to give!
Starting with Kareena, I actually really liked her character. I thought she was witty and funny, and I loved how she was a hopeless romantic like myself! I feel like we get a lot of sh*t for being like this so to follow a character who felt the same way as I do about love made me feel seen 😂 she never wavered from what she wanted out of life/relationships and always stood ten toes down in her beliefs of wanting true love, fireworks, and the whole nine. As for Prem, I’m still on the fence! On one hand, I’ve come to understand his POV on love and relationships, but I was annoyed by him constantly trying to change Kareena’s views and to get her to see why his way of thinking is the most logical and correct (which it wasn’t 😭) despite that though, I thought the tension and chemistry between these two was undeniable - I could feel it radiating through each chapter and it was exactly the type of angst I was looking for 🤌🏾
The reason why I’m rating this a bit lower is that I felt like the pacing in the middle lulled a bit, the incessant use of the miscommunication trope throughout, (I know this is a popular trope in romance books and does happen in the real world, but I still hate it, all the same, 😂) and the ending didn’t really feel like an ending? This will be turned into a companion series but I just don’t think we get a satisfying ending for Kareena and Prem - it was abrupt and it felt like there was supposed to be more added to it and there simply wasn’t, lol.
Final Thoughts: Overall, I still recommend! If you’re in the market for a funny, richly cultured, steamy, out-of-pocket RomCom, AND you enjoy the 10 Things I Hate About You movie, then this is the one! Don’t take it too seriously and just enjoy the ride 🎢
UMMMM I am sorry with the cartoon cover I was not expecting this level of spice. Overall this was such a fun read that I was able to buddy read with another bookstagrammer and I enjoyed it so much that I purchased a physical copy.
This book was truly the perfect balance of sweet and oh my goodness SPICY!
As a huge romance lover this was the perfect mix of humour, and heart and I ate up every single minute of it!!
I would absolutely recommend this to romance lovers and anyone looking to even dip their toes into the genre. A homerun!!
Dating Dr. Dil has a lot of funny moments and I love the representation. The writing sort of fell off in the second half. The family drama was humorous and I do love Taylor Swift but the romance between Kareena and Prem (Dr. Dil) just wasn’t for me. I think it was a mix between “Charlie” and Prem’s utter lack of maturity and redeemable qualities.
Thanks to Netgalley and Avon for the ARC!
2.5
Dating Dr. Dil is one of those books that I really should have reviewed the moment I finished it instead of waiting *checks notes* uhhh, two months?, because I'm sad to say that very little of this book was memorable, and most of the memorable moments were negative. 😬
While I liked Kareena for the most part as a main character, I struggled with her wishy-washy nature and her full-throttle commitment to being one of the most oblivious heroines I've ever seen in my life. This was totally one of those stories where the characters were all but writing on billboards "HERE ARE MY FEELINGS" and the opposite character would just look around like, "???" and it got old fast.
Prem, on the other hand? I have very little positive to say about Prem. I mean, I guess he was okay-ish in the end, but he spent most of the book being an insufferable fuck-boy (and I know all the reviews have talked about it, but seriously, what grown-ass adult names their penis?).
I feel a little bit bad about the direction this review is going in because I actually gave this book a very generous 4 stars when I first read it, but all of my memories of it have turned it into a 3-star read. Sigh.
It wasn't all bad, though! I mean, most of the side characters were The Actual Worst™️, but the aunties were hilarious and adorable and I LOVED THEM, and I did actually really like both of Prem's friends and both of Kareena's friends. In typical rom-com series fashion, I'm assuming the next two installments will pair up the side characters, and since I liked those characters more, I definitely want to read those. That said, Dating Dr. Dil wasn't it for me.
I love a spicy romance, I really do. But Kareena seemed a little too immature for me and Prem referring to his private part as "Charlie" was also something I couldn't get behind. I'll round up to four stars because of the spice but really, its probably more 3 or 3.5 stars.
I enjoyed this book so much more than I thought I would! I expected a cute little rom-com but it ended up being so much more. There was a lot going on in the plot of book and a lot of family dynamics, but I ended up enjoying that and this romance!
A comical account of every brown girl's experience. Of course with a happily ever after!
Thank you #NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for giving me the opportunity to read this!
Super cute rom-com! I loved the chemistry in this book. Dating Dr. Dil was the perfect light read. Definitely recommend this one.
I ended up not finishing this after trying twice and not getting past the first few chapters. I wish I could have loved this like others seemed too but it ended up just not working for me.
Wow, this book! Where to begin?
* Very sexy scenes! Quite steamy ... the main characters have wild sexual chemistry and the author does a great job making that clear.
* I love that Dungeons & Dragons is mentioned in a sweet way, and not a poking-fun-at-the-game-and-players way. I found myself hoping Kareena would hang out with them more, and become really good friends with the person she went on a date with.
* A quick read, very engaging.
* I will admit to being a bit confused about the emotions of the characters throughout... I sometimes struggled to understand why they said or thought things the way they did, but I think that's how it was supposed to be ... we were supposed to figure it out at the same pace as the characters. Or, when we did know things they didn't, they still had to figure it out on their own timeline.
* The first date and how it ended (no spoilers) was really confusing to me. It seemed like a bit of a stretch... a misunderstanding that didn't need to happen that way. But then again, that IS how it is sometimes!
I thought the aunties were a cool addition to the story... modern and hip, in the midst of old, patriarchal customs.
I really liked the family dynamic too, how Kareena was invisible to her family members at times. I've been there, and identified with it.
In summary, interesting characters, pattern of growth, steamy sex scenes, a respectful portrayal of Dungeons & Dragons and now, I want to read Shakespeare so I can find more parallels!
With this being super hyped up on booktok, I was excited to get this book and it didn’t let me down. Super cute rom com, already ordered my copy.
3.5 stars rounded up! This was pretty fun and a lighthearted read. The aunties were hilarious and it was a really interesting discussion on arranged marriage vs. a love marriage and the complexity of those decisions.

3.5 rounded up. This was a cute read and I am excited for a second book in this series. The downfalls for me was that the writing felt choppy occasionally, and I expected more from the epilogue. Other than that it was a fast read and a cute story!
