Recently, it seems like there have been a lot of books with Indian women in their thirties who aren't married yet, with a group of meddling aunties and family that are determined to see them find their happily ever after. I always love a good fake dating story, and with Prem being the infamous Dr. Dil, this one reminded me of the movie The Ugly Truth with Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. There was just enough steam to top it all off. Prem made me angry a few times, and I wanted to shout at him, "Just tell her you love her already." I wasn't always the biggest fan of Kareena's sister, Bindu, but she complimented Kareena's character well. This one was a good palate cleanser and entertaining read in between thrillers. The only thing I really didn't like about the book was when he referred to his *ahem* you know, as Charlie. I found that really strange and at first I thought there was another guy character that was being introduced. Thank you to the publisher for giving me the chance to read a digital copy of this book. 3.5 rounded up to 4 on Goodreads

There is so much I enjoyed about this book- the fact that this is a telling of the Taming of the Shrew, which I always love, the fake dating trope, the hilarious meddling aunties, and of course the Taylor Swift playlist.
I also really enjoyed Kareena as a character. I loved her sweater vests, how she did her own home repairs and was fixing up her mom's old car, and how she was a woman who knew her worth. She was not going to settle for less than what she deserved.
Prem....I enjoyed, but was a bit problematic at times. I just could not come around to understanding his point of view that apparently love is fake. And that he never told his parents he loved them. what is that??? How did he not realize until he's 30-something that that is not normal??? Also, I know every other reviewer will also bring this up, but why the hell did he refer to his dick as Charlie? Even to himself??? That was just. a real mood killer.
Overall this book was a fun read. It had some great moments of comedy and provided a wonderful HEA. I will definitely be on the look out for the next book in this series!

This story was so enjoyable! I love The Taming of the Shrew, and I adore that the author chose it as inspiration for the book!

Kareena Mann wakes up on her 30th birthday, determined to start dating again, after putting it on the back burner since law school. Now that she has her dream career, she's ready for her dream husband. If only it were that easy.

Dr. Prem Verma, cardiologist and host of the Dating Dr. Dil show, doesn't believe in love. He lost his arranged fiancée 3 years earlier, and he's been working to get his community clinic off the ground ever since. He thinks feelings of love are literally dangerous to heart health, and he has no interest in falling into that trap.

After a bad parting following their first meeting, both are wary of the other. That continues when Kareena's sister accidentally livestreams them arguing about love, and misunderstandings about their meeting the night before. But, both Kareena and Prem need money to get their respective dreams off the ground, and they need each other and a fake engagement ploy to get it.

This story was delightful, and there were many funny situations and moments throughout the story. Prem and Rina's arguments and squabbles were always amusing, and her wild Aunties were absolutely hilarious characters. I also really loved both Prem's and Kareena's 2 best friends: Bunty & Deepak, and Veera & Bobbi, respectively. I am very much looking forward to their stories! This story was also heartwarming and gave me all the feels, while including several very steamy bits that were much appreciated!

Prem and Kareena were clearly made for each other, and watching them slowly discover that fact was highly entertaining. I definitely recommend this book to any romcom lover!

This was such a delightful rom com. I giggled multiple times from the plot but overall I LOVED Kareena. She was so sure of what she wanted in life and didn't want to bend on in life. Prem was a bit of a mess of a hero, but I still loved some parts of his character.

The family element in this was also really fun, but the sister was obnoxious.

I did have some critique for the nickname of the dick that felt out of no where. Also Prem's inability to think critically about showing love in different ways.

This book was okay. There are some things I enjoyed and others that I really disliked. I found that this story focuses way too much on appearance and attraction which made it feel too insta-love for me. One thing that kept getting brought up was “He was so much taller than she remembered”. She literally just met this guy and everyday after she meets him this dialogue comes up. There is no way you forget someone's height that fast especially when zero time has gone by. It wasn’t just his height she would say this about. She would mention it about his eyes, clothes, and even made the same comment about his car over and over. When the two characters started hanging out more they would both say something like “The memory…” then it would flashback to a scene we literally just read chapters before. Also, keep in mind this is only a few days to a week later so the whole memory part didn’t make sense to me.

Unfortunately, too many things annoyed/bothered me to the point where I started hating the characters and couldn’t care less about the plot. One thing I really hate is repetition and this story had way too much of it. I also didn’t find the jokes to be funny but that could have just been me. While I didn’t enjoy this one I still think others might find it to be a cute romcom. If the synopsis sounds good to you then I say give it a try!

I adored Dating Dr. Dill by Nisha Sharma! All Kareena wants is to have her own love story. She's over dating apps (I don't blame her) and does not want an arranged marriage. Her father wants to retire and sell her family home and the last place filled with all her memories of her mother. Kareena convinces her father that she can keep the house if she can get engaged in four months. Now how is she going to make this happen? Kareena helps her sister film for her influencer account while her sister is a guest on the Dr. Dill show. Kareena ends up having an argument with Prem, a doctor, and host of the Dr. Drill show, that goes viral. The two of them determine a fake relationship will fix both of their problems. Their chemistry is off the charts, and I laughed hard during this steamy romance.

Thank you, Avon and HarperAudio, for my gifted copies in exchange for my honest review.

Ten things I can't stop thinking about after reading Dating Dr. Dil

❤️ I say this all the time but the meddling family trope remains one of my favorites and this book totally delivered on all fronts

❤️ The fake dating/engagement arrangement was so convoluted and honestly just added to the overall comedic value

❤️ Prem's initial “down with love” attitude had a great redemption arc. His story adds so much depth and it was worth the slow reveal.

❤️ These two are so passionate, stubborn, and--best of all--intelligent! The banter was whip fast and razor sharp.

❤️ The dildo--I don't know if I can say much more except that this Easter egg popped up at the best times (i.e. worst times for the characters)

❤️ Kareena and Prem are polar opposite on the subject of love and marriage. She wants a love match and he believes in science… this setup is classic and played out perfectly

❤️ The chemistry. For two characters who are always wound tight when that tension finally snapped they were so relaxed around each other. It’s such great writing.

❤️ Small point but I just really love romances about love after those easy dating years in the 20's.

❤️Anyone who has a sister knows how complicated these relationships are (read: very!). I could not have related more to the nuances of this sister relationship. Major highlight for me.

❤️ Prem's friends--you just have to give this one to me at face value. I'm easily swayed by charismatic groups of men.

Thank you so much to @netgalley and @avonbooks for this ARC, Dating Dr. Dil is out now, make sure to grab your copy!

While this book wasn't a favorite of mine, I'm still rating it 3 stars as it was well written for a romance novel. I just had a hard time connecting with the main characters, and there were some major cringey/awkward moments that I could not get past. The steamy scenes were particularly awkward, and the third person reference to his body part (Charlie) was immature and way overdone. Possibly a younger demographic would be more suited to this novel but it's definitely not for this woman in her 40s.

So sweet and funny! A modern reworking of Taming of the Shrew with a South Asian flair. I loved the relationship with Prem and Kareena, I loved how close their family is. I also think that all of the descriptions of food and culture really make this book shine, I loved how passionate and sweet the leads are. A fun and romantic read.

Dating Dr. Dil was beyond adorable. You were rooting for Kareena and Prem the entire time. The aunties and friends added so much life to the story that you truly never wanted the book to end.

I was really excited to read this book cause of the premise. It sounded like the fun kind of steamy rom com I was looking for.

Unfortunately, it fell short for me. I thought it was kinda boring and hated the fact that Prem had a name for his dick..like it was a pet dog. Not joking! It’s name was Charlie! And was mentioned several times as if it was a third person. Just no. So NOT sexy.

Forced relationships that turn into a happily ever afters are my favorite!

I loved the wit, banter, and steam in this novels so very much. I could have easily read three hundred more pages!

Rina and Prem are delightful.

The cultural aspects given here are AMAZING. I really enjoyed the addition of cultural terms and then the context around it to allow for general readers to understand without making it seem contrite.

Rina being an all around DIY badass was a refreshing change for a female character!

Wow, I am so glad to be done with this book. I should have DNF’ed it instead of pushing through, but I wanted to give it a fair chance.

I don’t know what I hated more: the male love interest referring to his penis as Charlie, the female lead being indecisive and constantly throwing aside what she wanted for the dude, or the male love interest refusing to take “no” for an answer.

I loved what the author was trying to do and I’m always down for a fake-dating storyline but this was just not a good time.

2.5/5

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. I started off not liking it, but then it started growing on me, though it there were still some moments I could have done without. But the second the Charlie talk started (please look at any other review that references Charlie for a way funnier way of telling you it was the most cringey part of the book ever), I stopped being able to handle it. Unfortunately my list of things I didn’t like about this book weigh heavier in my mind than than the things I did like. I didn’t like that only some things had consent. I also absolutely cannot look past the small but important detail that he (a supposed doctor) called Kareena laying on her back prone when that orientation is called supine. This seems like a fairly easy thing to look up before writing. I didn’t like that there were a few key things for each character and they never did anything outside of those character traits (e.g. sweater vests for Kareena). The book was completely lost for me once Prem showed a lack of respect for Kareena’s sister and put her down (by attacking her looks???) at her own engagement party. Yes, it’s important to support the person you’re dating. But if your show of support involves what Prem did, then the person you’re dating deserves better. It was mindblowing that this was supposed to be the redeeming moment for the male lead.

I will say I enjoyed the Indian representation. It was hard for me to read characters whose every move seemed to be tied to their ethnic identity because that is not the case for me or other Indian people I know, but I still want to appreciate the representation.

Overall, I wish the book was more. It had so much potential to be a great book, but easily fixable things stopped it from being as enjoyable of an experience as it could have been.

RX: A heart warming, laugh out loud read! This is just what the doctor has ordered to spring us into the warm summer romance feels. This book was a beautiful Rom Com and I loved every page of it. Kareena’s family has been putting the pressure on her to find a husband and settle down. They want her to get married, and Kareena is fighting for the real true love story, the ones she sees in movies and in romance books. She soon finds out her family will pay her if she gets married to help her buy her parents house, to keep her memories of her mother alive. Kareena and Dr. Dill are set up as a potential match, little does her family know that they already know each other. Kareena and Dr. Dill, do not see eye to eye on all aspects of love, and this love hate relationship is one we are rooting for. Kareena believes in true love and Prem (Dr. Dil) believes that love causes true heart ache in the literal sense, it can lead to negative heart health. The tension and pull between these two characters and what they believe about love is like fire and ice, and is what draws you into the story. This book is filled with romance, humour, family relationships and passion, and I loved all of it! I would highly recommend this book... it's doctors orders of course!

I enjoyed this, although the naming of the male genitalia really took me out of the story. Otherwise very cute and I want to read more from Nisha.

Kareena has put off dating and relationships for awhile choosing to focus on her career instead. On her 30th decides that it’s time to find love... unfortunately that comes with a deadline because her father is planning to sell the house she loves and the only way to keep it is to get herself engaged. Enter her meddling aunties who are ready and prepared to find her someone before her sister’s pending engagement party. Fate of course has other plans when on a night out Kareena meets Prem. Their instant connection seems so right until she finds out it’s so wrong. Reluctantly accompanying her sister to an interview of the Dr. Dil show brings her face to face with the guy she me. And she realizes pretty quickly that Prem does not believe in love in fact he believes love is bad for your health. When their fiery tempers get the best o& them and it goes viral it throws both of their plans off course. He’s trying to open his own medical center and his investors aren’t quite happy with the public attention he received. And Kareena’s datability goes down significantly.

Her aunties propose the ideal solution which is for them to get engaged to each other. But Kareena wants a soulmate and not to just engage in a fake relationship to get what she wants. Prem is all for pretending but naturally things don’t quite go as planned. The more time they spend getting to know each other the more they like each other but Kareena wants real love and that’s not something Prem is offering her.

I really liked Kareena and Prem they made laugh a lot their story was very enjoyable. It’s romance so you know where it’s going to go it’s the getting there that’s fun. I loved their friends and family too... Prem’a mom said the funniest things and that gift Kareena got from her sister for her birthday... I’ll be laughing and cringing about that whole thing forever.

I really enjoyed reading this! I am not familiar with The Taming of the Shrew storyline, and I am always a bit hesitant when reading adaptations when I don't know what plot lines are based on the original text and which aren't. However this didn't really impact my reading experience here since the whole time I was invested in the plot. There were a number of really fun rom com scenes, like the pani puri eating competition, that really made this a fun read for me. I also really enjoyed how self aware Kareena was as a character, and how she advocated for herself from the beginning but also became more confident in herself as the book went on. The steamy scenes were also excellent!

I found Prem's character to be a bit controlling and I found this off-putting. While I think that this may have been part of the adaptation to The Taming of The Shrew I felt like his sense of entitlement to Kareena and the way that her pursued her sometimes without her permission could have been more addressed at the end of the book. When he insists on calling her a nickname that she keeps telling him she doesn't like, and forces her to go on outings with him when she doesn't really have the option to say no, wasn't a great part of the book for me.

I did really enjoy the discussion about different types of love, and different ways that people communicate love to each other. I thought that this theme was the strongest in the book.

Nisha Sharma’s Dating Dr. Dil was definitely a fun read! It kept me engaged and guessing throughout. I especially liked the dialogue––particularly the banter between Kareena and Prem. The scenes with the two of them were definitely my favourite, and I found myself wishing for more scenes of them together.

The chemistry between Kareena and Prem was great as well. The steam was almost literally coming off my Kindle while I was reading! I also have to mention though that some parts read a tiny bit awkward to me (due to personal taste rather than the author doing anything wrong) which pulled me out of the story a bit. That’s definitely a personal thing though.

Another personal thing was some of the pacing and my personal preferences. But again, that’s on me and not the author. I also couldn’t get on board with the sweater vests, hahaha. But I won’t go into that now…but if you’ve read Dating Dr. Dil, please let me know in the comments what you thought of the vests! I’m very curious, hehe.

Dating Dr. Dil made me feel a lot of things––humour, joy, sadness, as well as fiery rage. There were some characters in this book that did things which really rubbed me the wrong way. I’m clenching my fists even now thinking back on it. The bulk of my experience with Dating Dr. Dil was positive though and I recommend it.
