There are dragons, and that made me very happy. It really moved along the story that we were interested in from previous books in the series. The romance itself kept me intrigued.
This is Gage's story. The Night Fury continue to battle the bad guys and keep their power in the US intact. Gage happens upon Samantha on one of their missions and he knows right away she is his mate. But she is a tuff cookie and is going to make him work for it.
Great action in this one. Loved seeing all the team and their mates settled. Interesting to follow Azrad and his undercover work with the bad guys. Loved this power couple to pieces!
Can't wait for more!
Oh wow loved Sam and Gages story. First time reading this author. Now I am going to have to go back and read all the others stories. This works well as a stand alone but when u finish u will want to read the others.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own
I happened to find this series from a book club that I'm part of and WOW, I'm sure happy we read this series!! This book is phenomenal and so is the series!! I absolutely LOVED Gage and Samantha's story!! I enjoyed reading about other characters too and can't wait to read about what happens next in the next book!! If you haven't read this book OR series I highly recommend it, it truly is worth your time. I also listened to this book on Audible and it was really great!!
An awesome story that really packs a punch. Good dialogue and characters make it a fast-paced dragonshifter romance
There is no one who writes a better shifter story. I love this series and the entire world the author has created. I hope she continues to build upon it.
I enjoyed this paranormal romance, but I suspect it reads better as part of a series (this one comes in at number 7). As a standalone, it is a little light on the plot as it relates to the main couple, Gage and Samantha; their relationship instead seems more of a vehicle for the series arch, and we have to content ourselves with a we-just-met-but-are-fated-mates whirlwind courtship (with a little you-kidnapped-me-and-I-hate-you-for-five-seconds thrown in).
It's a shame too because Samantha is super interesting. A gifted artisan, she was abandoned by her drug-addicted mother when she (Sam) was in the hospital with meningitis (which left her totally deaf). Though her deafness does get decently incorporated, I was disappointed not to see more evidence of her mad jewelry-making talent. As a result, she becomes mostly defined by her deafness and her connection to Gage.
Gage is a good hero, though he seems to have developed most of his richness in character as a result of events from a previous book. I wanted to see more of it here. Otherwise, he's a loyal friend, devoted lover, and amazing fighter, and he's easy to crush on.
If you've read that other books in the series, you'll likely be delighted to see the gang again. This one was my first, but I did find myself falling just a little bit in love with all the Nightfuries and their mates. I just wish this particular story was a little more complete.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!
I love this series and these characters - even if its totally modeled off Black Dagger Brotherhood.
I like getting caught up with the other characters from the other series.
Samantha was awesome and gave Gage enough of a hard time.
Awesome dragon shifter romance! I started reading this series years ago and I enjoyed it but eventually lost contact with the books. Now Coreene is back writing the series again and it's just a fabulous adventure. There is so much going on with the series and several plot lines. Every time I thought the story would quiet down another twist would come out of the blue. There was so much action and several awesome dragon battles. I loved the strong and instant bond between Gage and Samantha. She's deaf and his connecting with her almost from the first instant and helped to make communication easy. Sam's such a strong and creative woman after enduring all the roadblocks in her life. I can't wait for the next book!
Samantha Redhook is a goldsmith who is struggling to make ends meet. She is deaf from her bout of meningitis her drug addicted mother didn't catch. Sam was taken to the hospital at 15 by a neighbor who found her sick in the hallway. From then on she was raised by her gruff but loving Grandpa who taught her goldsmithing that they did together. She learned ASL as well as to read lips and was determined to not lose her ability to speak out loud. She and Gage meet when he picks up the medallion she was commissioned for his adopted son Osgard. This changed her life forever.
Gage is a 6' 8" bronze dragon warrior who has been tortured. His wing mates are silver dragon Haider, and gold dragon prince Nian. He brought Osgard, a teen dragon, out of Zidane's torturous death camp with him and adopted him as his own. The moment he sees Sam he knows she's his destined mate. The connection is instantaneous. Unfortunately Ivar and his Razorback's intercept their online communication and try to capture Sam before Gage does. Sam is brought into the dragon world quickly as a fight over her ensues. I loved watching the bond between these two very strong willed individuals grow into love. We also are treated to several other story threads involving Ivar, Zidane and the other dragon clans oversees. This was a blast.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
****1/2 stars- I have waited over a year to read the next book in the Dragonfury series. This book does not disappoint. There is a lot going on in the book. The book was full of on the edge of your seat action. Gage, Haider, and Nian are back after the horrors in Prague. Gage brought Osgard back from Prague as his adoptive son. He has decided to make him officially part of the Nightfuries. Gage found a goldsmith online to make a medallion for Osgard. When Gage goes to meet the person he discovers she is a high energy female and his mate. Samantha Redhook is deaf. With Gage she can hear his voice in her head. Gage is one tough warrior. Gage is a bronze metallic dragon. He shows a sweet and patient side to Samantha we have never seen before. The connection and love they share is intense and sizzles with their need for each other. They are made for each other.
Sloan is more vocal in this book. You get to finally know more about him. Sloan is an earth dragon. He has never gotten over the loss of his son. Bastian, the leader of the Nightfuries, has pushed Sloan away from hiding behind his computer. Bastian has made him part of the night missions again. Sloan is more alive than he has been in a long time. He is enjoying the camaraderie of the pack that he was never a part of.
The author has built an awesome world with great characters. We get to see all the guys from the Nightfury pack once more. It’s wonderful to interact with Bastian, Rikar, Venom, Wick, Mac, and Forge again. It is nice to catch up with previous characters. Ivar of the Razorbacks is still battling his feelings for Sasha. Hamersveld (Sveld) yearns for Natalie. Azrad, Bastian’s little brother, is still deep undercover with the Razorbacks along with his wing mates Terranon and Kilmar. The Archguard Death Squad is in Seattle causing lots of trouble with Zidane leading the pack and his father Rodin in Prague. Finally we get the Scottish pack interaction we have been waiting for!
This was a fun and entertaining read. I enjoyed this book immensely. I reviewed some character’s key events in previous books to get a better understanding of their issues that I did not remember. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was my favorite in the series so far! Sam and Gage have a great connection and I just love seeing how much the guys are trying to make Osgard feel welcome and part of the family. There was so much going on in this book, that I couldn't put it down. I can't for the rest of the guys' stories. After this book, she even has me wanting stories for Hamersveld and Ivar. I would definitely recommend starting from the beginning of this series instead of starting on this book as you will miss a lot of back story.
Fury of Destruction by Coreene Callaghan
Dragonfury book 7. Paranormal dragon shifter romance. Best read as part of the series.
Gage knows that Samantha is his mate as soon as he sees her but since they are in the middle of a setup to take down Dragonfury enemies, he needs to drag her into his world without any advance notice. Dragons shifters exist!
Samantha immediately feels comfortable with Gage because she can hear him inside her head. She feels the same pull he does and soon they become intimate and committed to the relationship. ie several steamy sex scenes.
Cameo appearances of prior couples and updates on their lives are included since most of the Dragonfury group lives together in a huge underground fortress in the mountains.
Two other storylines intertwine from different dragon septs. Ivar is an enemy of the Dragonfury clan and is intent on a female breeding program.
Azrad was thought to be an enemy but is really undercover and has infiltrated Ivar’s group. We are left hanging on this storyline though as part of a cliffhanger. Here’s hoping the next book is faster than the last break between books!
Fighting and battles between the dragons are amped up in this book exponentially.
I liked the heroine for her strength and acceptance of the whole dragon thing as well as her self awareness. I also like that all the dragons have accepted the psychotherapist from the prior book and have listened to advice, here in particular for Osgard which starts this whole story.
Entertaining, steamy and a dragon shifter adventure.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley.
it's been a while since we've visited the nightfury pack and since I didn't reread/scan the prior books before delving into this one, it felt it. there are a number of characters and plot points that carry over from the prior books into this one. I highly recommend new readers (or those who have only read the more recent novellas about the Scottish pack) start at the beginning of the series. Enjoyed seeing Gage's gentler/more caring side in addition to the tough alpha warrior one, Sam's deafness (due to teenage illness) was an interesting difference and seemed to be well handled, not just glossed over or used for plot bait. as fated mates, their romance happens quickly (in fact most of the book occurs over just a few days) but was passionate and the two fit and balanced each other well which made it feel more realistic. I continued enjoyed the interaction and sense of brotherhood between the dragons within the packs as this is one of the strengths of the series. while the various ongoing series plot lines did have some movement, they weren't wrapped up - only new questions added, however the primary romance for the book did reach a HEA point and there was no major cliffhanger. due having to try to recall a lot of the carryover details after such a long time between books, it took me a bit to get to the point of fully enjoying and connecting with the book which decreased my overall enjoyment level. this is an issue others may not have. all in all, this was a good installment in the series and renewed my hope for more stories with the nightfury pack.
Ok, so this is my favorite of the series so far. I adored Gage and Samantha's connection. Their bond formed quicker and seemed solid from the start. I know it's because of Sam being deaf and her ability to connect in other ways. It just made their coming together much more exciting. Even though I started this series out of order with book 6 as my first, I actually wouldn't recommend it. I did go back and re-read the series in order before this book came out and I'm more connected and invested in these characters because of it. There is a lot going on in this book. Not just Gage and Samantha, but several strings to follow that has me very excited for future books. As the saying goes, things are really starting to heat up.
It was worth the long wait for this book. However, I hope that the next book will be released a little earlier. It will be exciting...
Gage and Samantha are a perfect match. I liked her from the first page to the last. Her disability is a welcome change from the often all-too-perfect heroines in romance novels.
So much happens in this book ...
It's getting tight around Rodin and Zidane. The fronts are forming. War is in the air.
Ivar and Sveld ... - Well, it will be interesting to see how they will develop.
At least now it becomes clear that Ivar - even if you don't want to say it out loud - is a genius in his own way. Different than planned, but ... wow ... a really interesting twist.
The Nightfury family grows and grows ... - That was really nicely implemented in this book.
And now ... I just want m-o-r-e ....
Fury of Destruction (Dragonfury, #7) by Coreene Callahan
I couldn't wait for this book and was not disappointed! This dragon warrior Gage and Samantha's story. It is also the Nightfury's story so many questions answered and new ones yet to come. I enjoyed catching up with all of them and the angst, anger, fear, discovery, laughter, tears, so many feelings and steam to get us to their HEA.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Tear-jerker Scary Steamy Entertaining Happily Ever After Unpredictable Wonderful characters Action-packed Page-turner Funny Romantic Great word building
I am a fan of Paranormal Romance, especially dragons. A large percent in this genre are steamy and use rough language. I gloss over these when reading, so my review will be based on the story, worldbuilding, and characters.
Fury of Destruction is a familiar world since I've read many of the previous books and looked forward to revisiting the Dragonfury world. One of the things that stood out to me from the beginning and carried throughout the story even more than the romance was the brotherhood.
Gage is the primary male lead. He and his two fellow metallic dragons have been damaged by the enemy who held and tortured them. (This is a previous story not detailed in this book) The relationship between them connected me to the main character more than any previous books. Gage is tough, no-nonsense, and a fierce warrior. But he is a warrior with heart. A huge heart. Not only do his friends count on him, but his leader respects him.
Samantha is the female lead. I adore her bright sarcastic wit, tender heart, and sheer courage. Sam has had a tough life, but she is an overcomer and someone you want to have a happy life. She rolls with the punches, and even when a scene overwhelms her, she recovers and keeps her humanity.
Worldbuilding and action are well done, never being too much or too little. The pacing keeps you rollicking along and often laughing out loud at the dialog between characters. The main characters get a satisfactory ending. So much room is left in this series, especially with the multiple antagonists.
Fans of paranormal romance will enjoy this book. I highly recommend Fury of Destruction. You can probably figure this out without reading the other books, but for the full richness of the Dragonfury world, start at the beginning and binge.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately I could not get into this paranormal romance.
The third voice narration made this impossible for me to get close to the characters and follow the story line. Very slow build up.
Explosive and thrilling!
Fury of Destruction successfully builds on the suspense, anticipation and allure of the previous Dragonfury books to deliver heart pounding excitement, fiery sexiness and romance that tunnels below the surface into your heart.
After returning from a field assignment in Prague that resulted in his capture and torture, dragon shifter Gage is dealing with guilt, doubt, and unspeakable frustration. He doesn’t know how to help himself, much less protect his best friend, his Nightfury brothers or his newly adopted teenager. But he has been doing the best he can, when he unexpectedly encounters his fated mate in a beautiful blond goldsmith that he accidentally set up as Razorback bait.
Samantha recognizes something unique in Gage as well when she spots her handsome jewelry client from across the room. Inappropriate thoughts that flash across her mind are replaced with rage when he insists that she needs to leave with him. Now! What follows is a crash course on Dragons for Sam.
I love Sam as a heroine! In a world where dragons are hidden from humans but fated mates recognize their bond to each other immediately, Sam still stands out as one of the most adaptable, understanding and supportive of mates. And she has an added specialness that makes mindspeak an added blessing to her. There are times when it seems that there is so much going on with the Nightfuries, Razorbacks and Archguard Death Squad that Gage and Sam are edged out in their own book. I am glad Coreene Callahan was able to bring the focus back to this adorable and sultry couple.
The Dragonfury world is fabulous for its wickedly captivating characters, both “good” and “bad”, and their fascinating magical powers. No two dragons are alike, which makes for a treasure trove of fun for paranormal nerds like me. It’s got a great feminine-based mythology and enough intertwined storylines that readers should be strongly advised to read the previous books in order. For those who do, the reward is totally immersive enjoyment. Highly recommended!
