I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher. This in no way impacted on my view.
After seeing his two sisters find love and happiness, Prince Remington of Athawick is starting to think that his devil may care attitude and persona might not be enough for him. He knows his place in this family is to be the spare, the one to have a laugh and not take things seriously - that's King Grantham's job - but his role is starting to grate on him, and he needs a change. When Lady Priscilla fled home and travelled with her friends to Athawick for the royal wedding, she knew she needed to find a way out, and quickly. Her home life has been in disarray ever since her father's remarriage, and would just be worse when she returns. Her hope is to find someone to marry, or if she has to, to take her as his mistress, so she can be free, and she sets her sights on the cold and unwelcoming king. But, she can't get through to him, but Prince Remington offers to help. Will she be able to realise that the perfect man for her is right in front of her, or will Remi not be able to convince her he's changed?
I adored reading Ilaria and Sasha's love stories and have had a soft spot for Prince Remington since we met him. He's someone who is clearly putting up a front for others, but inside I could see his late father had affected him more than he said, and he needed someone to be able to break down the walls, and let the real Remi come through. And Priscilla was perfect for this. She saw herself as a wallflower - and the way her family treated her didn't help - and was really unassuming and lacking in confidence. But meeting Remi changed all that. He saw her as a rose amongst thorns, and she was able to get him to open up, and become the person who he needed to be, and who his family needed. I loved their banter, and the way they came together so gradually, before the revelation of love. I will admit, I was shocked when the twist happened, and couldn't have asked for it to be resolved in any better way. I have a feeling that Lady Ophelia is going to be a big part of Grantham's story, and am impatiently awaiting book 4!
I enjoyed that this book is based in Remi's home. A different scenery which is a lot slower paced than London.
The wedding party for Remi's sister is pretty much one big house party. I really like that, it makes for a closer group. I was appalled by how Priscilla's father and step mom treated her. I cheered when Remi came to her defense.
Man, Jess Michaels writes steam like no one else. There were moments in this book where I was like can Remi come to teach these tricks to my husband?
The whole royal family and ton friends are in Athawick for the wedding of Princess Ilaria and Jonah Crawford, including Lady Ophelia and best friend, Priscilla. Priscilla is a delightful on-the-shelf spinster who needs to find a match before returning to London. Prince Remington offers to help her learn how to flirt and other things. This book also begins the setup for King Grantham and Lady Ophelia's book, hate at first sight love story.
I loved how Priscilla was portrayed in the book as not a spinster but this undiscovered diamond. I also loved how quickly Remi fell for her and the emotional depths their relationship went. It was a nice change from other romance books where the characters avoid each other. I also loved the setup for the next book. I read this book in one night, couldn't put it down. It was also more reminiscent of Michaels' older books which I loved! Remi is a pretty swoon-worthy hero.
A great installment to this series and excited to finally get to Grantham's book next.
