2.75 stars. A wonderfully weird story that combines Mary Poppins and Doctor Who together to make the plucky heroine Marabel.
Loved reading famous literary figures that kept popping up (those were my favourite parts), it was like seeing old friends together making the read really enjoyable in that regards. Thankfully the heroine carried the real weight of the story, showcasing her wit and determination throughout her escapades.
I'll admit I was confused half of the time, I had no idea what was going on between all the elements that it created a jumble. The illustrations were not cohesive together, nor were they charming to look at, especially when you compare how pretty the cover is.
Thank you to NetGalley and Cameron Publicity and Marketing Ltd. for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I very much appreciate the chance to read this book before publication but really I found it hard work. There are elements of Jasper Ffordes books but these were rather confusing. The basic story and characters were nicely written but many of the additional elements distracted from the storyline. I spent too much time trying to work out what was going on in this alternate universe than enjoying the storyline. Sorry but not for me.
