I found this book to be very disappointing. It was a slow burn that never paid off in the end. There were so many unnecessary plot points, characters, and details meant to be red herrings. However, they just felt more like filler than actual distractions. The 2 stories told in tandem ultimately came together in the end but I just felt myself pushing through to the end but never actually enjoying this book.

This book was so good!! I really enjoyed the dual POV.
If you want a book that will keep you guessing on what will happen next, it's this book!
The narration was enjoyable and I'm super picky when it comes to audiobook narrators.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review

Avery is a therapist who lost her license due to her unconventional practices, specifically an unorthodox 10-step program designed to quickly get to the crux of the matter so her clients can move forward. While her methods may be unconventional, she gets the job done. I liked Avery, with her finely tuned instincts and BS meter. The fact that she took in a rescue dog further endeared her to me. She’s a complicated character with issues of her own and I would love to see her make an appearance in a future book.

Marissa and Matthew are her new clients. They are the Golden Couple who seem to have it all: wealth, promising careers, and an adored child. But we know that not all that glitters is gold, right? Their marriage is on the rocks and Marissa has a secret so explosive, she will only divulge it to Matthew in the relative safety of the therapist’s office. Avery’s BS meter tells her everyone has lies/secrets and she becomes an amateur detective in her determination to get to the bottom of it.

The lies, reveals and suspicions kept me flipping the pages (virtually, as I listened to most of it). Although I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as the duo’s previous books, I can’t wait to see what they do next. Suspend your disbelief, sit back, and enjoy the journey. You may partially guess some developments but I guarantee you will still be surprised.

The narrators of the audio were fantastic, definitely enhancing the experience.

This book was so good! I’m not gunna lie I read it because the MC has the same name as me but I couldn’t put it down! I kept getting better and better and leaving me on the edge of my seat! I highly recommend I just wasn’t happy with the ending. It wasn’t bad I just wanted a different outcome

I was given an audiobook arc of this in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this thriller. It had a unique premise, the therapist had lost her license to practice and develops her own method to help people. The patients know she is a rogue therapist and her methods are unusual. Lots of interwoven plot lots, twists and turns. It kept me engaged in the story. Terrific narration. I recommend it, it’s a little different from the usual plot lines. 4.5⭐️

I read most of this book in ebook format, but I appreciated being able to bring this book into my car via audio. I loved that the audiobook had two narrators, one for each main character and they narrated their own chapters, that helped so much when I switched from audio to ebook.

Two main women in this twisting and turning story. Avery is as of recently an unlicensed therapist and she claims that she can fix all the things in just 10 themed sessions. Marissa is married with a young son and has recently cheated on her husband and needs Avery to help her fix the marriage that she wishes to stay in. This is just the beginning.

Told in alternating perspectives, each Avery and Marissa tell the story from their point of view and I am so glad we the reader got both! While this story does revolve around cheating and I don't tend to read that, I am a Sarah Pekkanen fan and will give anything she writes a chance and yes cheating is what brought Avery and Marissa into each other's lives, there was more mystery and intrigue that kept the story going and I was so glad. The story ended up being a who dun it of sorts and I loved reading that part of the book.

I may be sensitive to this, but I appreciated that Avery's storyline really centered around her work. I find that a lot of fiction doesn't always show women working and as a working woman myself, it is nice when the whole storyline revolves around a woman and her profession.

While maybe not my favorite of Sarah Pekkanen and Greer Hendricks' work, I would recommend this to readers who are not sensitive to cheating storylines as I am.

A Hendricks and Pekkanen duo is always a good idea, and their new book was no different!

This book was so good, and I really enjoyed the different storylines, and mysterious characters! The alternating POVs between Avery and Marissa were both done really well, and as the story unfolded, it became increasingly hard to put down! For those that are looking for a fast, thrilling story, this one is a bit of a slower paced thriller, but by no means is it any less intense and captivating! I HAD TO KNOW what was happening, who had done it and why they had done it *insert "I don't need sleep, I need answers!" gif*

An intriguing and suspenseful psychological thriller where no one is quite what they seem, The Golden Couple is one you won't want to miss!

Thank you Netgalley, St. Martin's Press and Macmillan Audio for the audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review! This book is due for publication 3/8/22 and I definitely recommend it!

This was my review from Instagram: Another great book by this dynamic duo! Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen

Y’all know how much I love audiobooks so I was so excited to get an ALC of this gem!

Book: The Golden Couple
Genre: Suspense / Psychological Thriller
Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★
Format: Audio 🎧

Quick take: The twisty tale of a therapist with unconventional methods trying to unlock the mystery of a "perfect" marriage.

This one kept me on the edge of my seat and I loved the multiple view points! Sometimes this is difficult to follow on audio, but the narration variety was perfect. This one definitely had me second guessing everything. It was fast paced and kept me wanting more. I devoured this one in about 2 days, and it would have been a day if I didn’t have responsibilities. Can’t wait for my physical copy to come. If you haven’t added this one to your BOTM grab it 3.8.22!

Go to sleep vs. listen to the end of @greerhendricks and @sarahpekkanen 's newest thriller #ThegoldenCouple ?? #duhhhhh This was a no-brainer! I could not stop listening!!
Marissa & Matthew Bishop look like #thegoldencouple -- all blonde, beautiful, polished, and classy - this is what their new therapist Avery thinks upon their first meeting. They look like the perfect couple. But Marissa has cheated and brought Matthew to therapy to confess this to him. And Avery is not technically even a therapist anymore, as she lost her license due to her invasive yet effective treatment plans for troubled people. She thinks she knows how she will "fix" this couple, but as time goes on Avery finds Marissa is being stalked, strange things are happening, and she senses there are so many lies being told and secrets still being kept. This book was multi-layered and the characters were so multi-dimensional and the twist was so shockingly horrible. This writing duo is phenomenal - i will read whatever comes next and will dive into their backlist as well. If you enjoy thrillers involving marriages in trouble and psychological thrillers involving therapy, this is one not to miss!! Out in early March by @stmartinspress.
many thanks to @macmillan.audio who once again & as always did a fantastic job on the audiobook! Thank you SO much for the early listening copy!

A maverick (and license-revoked) Therapist who goes the unconventional extra mile to promise resolve in 10 therapy sessions.. sleuthing.. secrets galore.. interrelationships materializing.. and .....puppy adoptions? This book was just the escape i craved and from the first to the last page, I was all in. Highly recommend the Audio narrated by the talented Karissa Vacker and Marin Ireland!

Entertaining, but not memorable.

Marissa and Matthew Bishop find themselves in need of marriage counselling, and Marissa enlists the assistance of Avery Chambers - who has unorthodox methods yet a phenomal success rate. As the story unfolds we slowly learn that each person is keeping more secrets than they’ve led on.

Unfortunately with this one I have more cons than pros 😫
• Too many side characters, and they weren’t relevant enough to the story
• A plot, and side plot that are both just a little too ridiculous to be believable
• Slightly boring, I found myself listening because I kept thinking something BIG would happen, but then it did and it was just meh for me

However I am in the minority here, this has a 4.13 rating on Goodreads so give it a shot if it sounds interesting. Or try the author’s earlier book ,An Anonymous Girl, I enjoyed that one so much more!

I have enjoyed previous books I’ve read by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. However, this book fell flat for me. I evidently am in the minority, so I would recommend you make your own decision. From the first sentence I read, I was irritated. The positive aspect is that the story is told through different points of view. There was tension which appealed to me, but overall there was little action. So it ended up being a bleh read for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

This book features Marissa and Mathew Bishop, a married couple who has come to see counselor Avery Chambers. Avery's unorthodox methods are known for getting results, but they aren't always aboveboard or appreciated. Marissa has cheated on Mathew, and she wants to bring her infidelity into the open so that they can try to heal their marriage and move forward, but certain things make it seem as if the man she slept with won't let go so easily.

The Golden Couple is fast paced and intriguing. We alternate between Avery's and Marissa's points of view and learn that everyone in the book is harboring many secrets. I would like to say that I didn't figure out the twists ahead of time but I did figure out most of them. However, I was generally okay with that because the way things play out is what makes this book so captivating. I was totally invested in the story and found many excuses to listen to the book throughout the day in order to find out what was going to happen next.

This is another excellent psychological suspense thriller from Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for my advanced copy of the audiobook.

Avery is a therapist that uses unconventional methods to help her clients. She is not licensed, she lost her license after said methods came to light. Marissa and Matthew Bishop are her new clients. On the surface they have everything anyone could ever want. They are beautiful, and have an adorable little son, Bennett. So why do they need therapy? One of the Bishops has just admitted to infidelity. Can they restore their perfect marriage?

Trust no one and suspect everyone in this new psychological thriller by this amazing duo of authors.

I was immersed in the audio of this incredibly compelling story. It was difficult to step away as I couldn’t wait to find out what came next.

I was so happy with this book. The last GP book was very disappointing however they have redeemed themselves with The Golden Couple. Some great twists and turns towards the end that did surprise me. I felt invested in the main characters and their POVs. The narration was fantastic. Great book!

This was my first Henricks and Pekkanen book and I will be adding all of their other books to my tbr after having finished this.

The Bishops are considered by most as "the golden couple". They both are successful in their careers/businesses, have a house straight out of an interior decor catalog, and have their son in one of the best schools of the area. However, not all is golden in their marriage. Marissa Bishop has cheated on her husband and in an attempt to save her marriage, she reaches out to an unconventional therapist for help.
Avery Chambers is a sort of an anti-therapist. She recently lost her license due to her controversial methods but finds she has a better rate of success by breaking the rules. After taking on the Bishops as her clients, she realizes that there is a lot going on under the surface and is determined to figure out by their tenth session.

We are given the POV of Marissa and Avery throughout the book and I love seeing how different these two women are and how differently they handle each situation. The narrators for the audiobook did an exceptional job highlighting these differences. As the story progressed, I thought I knew what was going to happen but was proved wrong at every turn. I was kept on my toes in the last quarter.
I did feel as though the subplot didn't add much to the storyline and the way things wrapped up and fell into place at the end was a bit too convenient.
I still highly recommend this if you love a thriller/mystery with a couple that isn't really what they seem to be.
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan audio for the advanced copy.

Matthew and Marissa seek out the help of Avery, disgraced therapist who has developed her own 10 session service. This book really takes a deep dive into lies and why people tell them, but also how you can never truly know the people around you.
Full of twists and turns. So many characters, I’m still curious about a few of them.
I loved how every time I thought I had it figured out another plot twist. And I had to re-examine everything I thought I knew.

Secret and lies... Oh my!

I have enjoyed many books from the talented duo, Hendricks and Pekkanen, and they never fail to produce a twisty tale. The Golden Couple can be added to that list!

Enter Avery Chambers, former therapist turned consultant due to previous not so ethical treatment plans. While her style is not the norm, she claims she can resolve relationship problems within 10 meetings. Golden Couple, Marissa and Matthew become newest patients when Marissa reveals she's had an affair, yet wants to keep her marriage intact.

This book contains dual story lines. We learn about Avery, her backstory including past and present clients along with her thought processes for resolution of their problems. And Marissa, whose secrets threaten the perfect family as seen from the outside. The alternating viewpoints let you into the thoughts and behaviors of both women.

Who's truth is the truth? That's what this book boils down to. What's real and who can you trust? Suspicion, lies, and intrigue abound. This is a quick and most enjoyable listen. With well developed characters, it's a must-read for mystery/thriller fans.

Many thanks to Netgalley, the authors and MacMillan Audio for the opportunity to enjoy a juicy, twisty, original thriller.

Matthew and Marissa are facing a crisis in their marriage, and they turn to controversial therapist Avery Chambers for help. Avery utilizes a unique treatment protocol that promises to solve any issue in 10 sessions. First of of all, I I would like to thank the authors for doing their homework and acknowledging that Avery's behavior is highly unethical and resulted in her losing her license to practice therapy. Thank you for keeping it real. I really enjoyed this twisty thriller. As much as I wanted to dislike Avery, I couldn't help but find myself rooting for her. The authors did a nice job of doling out the story at a perfect pace, always leaving me wanting more. While some of the standard domestic thriller tropes applied here, they seemed less offensive than in other works in the same genre. I enjoyed the multiple points of view in this novel, and I liked that the audio edition utilized two narrators to accomplish this. All in all, this is a solid thriller that is definitely worth the read/listen.

I liked this book. I did start to figure out about halfway through who was the unsuspected villain. However, it was still a very fun read and full of suspense and twists. 8/10 recommend.
