Twenty-two-year-old Alexa has just been arrested for killing her boyfriend. She insists that the real murderer is her twin sister, Beth. This is where the story begins.

The author then takes us back three months and then further into the twins’ past. Alexa has suffered from mental health issues, but fortunately is hired by a marketing firm in New York City.  She can finally be independent of her father and her small town in Connecticut. She even has her own apartment, that is, until Beth shows up.

The story goes back and forth between the perspectives of Alexa and Beth. I figured out the main “twist” early on, but the plot and characters still kept me engaged. The novel was so well-written that the suspense intensified even with that knowledge. I also wanted to find out how certain particulars would eventually tie in. For instance, one was a tease early on referring to "the incident”.

Not only are mental health issues addressed, but the harms of social media and the role of psychiatrists in treating their patients. It was the last one that stuck in my head long after I finished the book.

I am so glad that I kept reading and enjoyed every minute of the story. Do You Follow? will not disappoint and I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

Thanks to NetGalley and Greenleaf Books for this ARC. I love psychological thrillers and a book with the main characters as twins...sign me up, as I am an identical twin. The book provides both the viewpoints of the twins, Alexa and Beth, in addition to some minor passages by the psychiatrist who is treating Alexa. I found the book to be a quick read but I did predict what was coming, it was not a unique twist, so it was a bit disappointing. And happily, no similarities between Alexa and Beth and my twin sister! There were a few other little twists but not enough to make me love this book, sadly.

Do You Follow is the story of Alexa, fresh New York transplant with a new apartment, new job, new boyfriend, and a possible evil twin Beth. They share the same face, therapist, and deep dark secrets.
The story opens at the police station with Alexa being interviewed about and accused of the murder of her boyfriend Curt. She swears it wasn't her, but instead her identical twin Beth. We get duel point of views, both Beth and Alexa, as well as a present timeline and peeks into the past. I really like the premise but this book was just too wordy for me. I tend to prefer less meaningless description and more in depth growth or build up. Thank you to Greenleaf Book Group and NetGalley for an audiobook in exchange for my honest review. 3 stars.

I enjoyed this book a lot though it felt a little slow at times and I had to force myself to continue reading it. However, at the end it was definitely worth a read

I don't understand how anyone can write a whole-ass book without any research into topics they are clearly unfamiliar with. In this case, and this is only one example, someone points out that no one wanted to press charges...for a murder. Because, murder is only illegal if someone has a problem with it? I guess? Honestly, one episode of law & order would have gone a long way to making this shit show more believable.

Not bad for a first novel. Mental illness, DID, twins, social media, the Pandemic. They all collide for a compelling read. I received a free copy of this book which in no way had any effect on my review of this book. Would definitely read other books by this author.

This was a fast, intriguing read. I enjoyed the story, tone and it’s pacing. I liked the characters’ inner dialogue too, sometimes that can be a let down but in this it was done well.

A very very slow thriller that picked up a lot toward the end. This one is about identical twins Alexa and Beth who have had some significant trauma in their past which has led both of them to need psychiatric care. Alexa gets her first job and moves to NYC into her own apartment. She is surprised and not is a good when when her twin Beth shows up on her doorstop ready to move in. Alexa reluctantly lets Beth back into her life after a long separation. Alexa begins her job in marketing and begins dating a YouTuber named Curt. Beth is not pleased to have Curtis usurping her twin. The story goes from there. I do respect the commentary regarding mental illness and social media. However, the story really dragged at parts for me. It somewhat redeemed itself at the end but I really had to stick with it. I guessed a lot of the big twists early on but was surprised by some things. Overall, I think the author writes well and the characters were interesting. I just felt the plot moved too slowly. I think the post covid references were irritating to me as we are just not there yet.

Thanks to NetGalley and Greenleaf Book Group for both the ARC and the audiobook. I both listened and read this book.

Alexa is exceedingly excited to start the next chapter in her life. Not only is she about to start a new job in marketing, she is moving to New York City and living in her own apartment for the first time. Her joy is short-lived when Beth, her twin sister, arrives back into her life the day she moves to the big city. Both Alexa and Beth have spent time in Weinstein Center, a psychiatric center, but Alexa is intent on living her best life moving forward, which includes a new relationship with a man named Curt. When Beth grows suspicious of Curt and his motives, secrets about the girls’ shared history begin to reveal themselves, putting Alexa’s relationship with Curt and with her sister in jeopardy.

While I was entertained by Do You Follow?, I cannot express in words how much I wish the book summary on the back did not reference the fact that Alexa suffers from DID, or Dissociative Identity Disorder. I feel as though I would have figured it out rather early on, but it seems as though that discovery was taken away from the reader. There are still some surprising revelations along the way, but sadly not as many as there could have been. I liked the narrative and flew right through this novel, but I think the label “thriller” is a little inaccurate; I did not find it to be much of a thriller, but maybe that was because the big secret was already revealed. I really enjoyed the character of Dr. Greer; I feel as though his character has a big heart and a real desire and drive to help people. I also enjoyed the multiple perspectives through which the events are seen, predominantly Alexa’s and Beth’s (and also Dr. Greer’s), but knowing about the DID ahead of time took something away from these multiple perspectives. Overall I enjoyed the novel, but I think the summary gives away too much.

Alexa Martin is excited to finally be on her own. After a series of family tragedies, a stay in a mental health facility, and weekly meetings with a therapist, she’s ready to start a new job in NYC without her father watching her every move. But when her estranged twin sister Beth shows up to her door the day she moves in, Alexa is worried that things won’t go as planned. The secrets between them threaten to tear them apart, and when Alexa’s new boyfriend Curt ends up dead, Beth is to blame. They say the bond between twins is stronger than normal siblings, but could they destroy theirs with secrets and lies?

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(4 stars)

My thoughts: this was a super quick and very entertaining read/listen. I kind of saw the plot twist coming fairly early on (having read similar books previously), but what kept me hooked was the timeliness of this particular story.

I can’t say much more without giving too much away, but this is definitely one that I would recommend to a friend.

Thank you to NetGalley and Greenleaf Book Group for the advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Do You Follow? by J.C. Bidonde is a gripping novel, which follows the story of twin sisters, one who is being released from a mental health facility and one who is starting her first job in New York City, moving to her first apartment and dating her first boyfriend. The sisters are very different, Alexa is trying her best to be independent, focused and good at her new job. Beth is angry, concerned about what her sister will say about "the incident" and who she will tell about their mother's death many years ago. The novel opens with Alexa at a police precinct, saying that she did not kill her boyfriend, but that her sister did it. There are many twists and turns and this novel will keep you guessing right until the end. A fabulous, entertaining novel that should be on every mystery/thriller lovers list!

I thought the book was interesting and fast paced. I love short chapters. It helps keep me interested. I didn't really find this book too suspenseful but I thought the story flowed naturally. It kept me wanting more. I really liked the different POVs. It was nice to see inside the minds of identical twin sisters. You can see how different and similar they are to each other. I really liked Beth even in her moments where she seemed out of control. She was fiercely loyal and protective of Alexa. I listened and read the book.

This insane tale of Alexa, Beth, their late mother, their father, and their therapist is a THRILLER. I had no idea of the moving pieces. I had no idea what pieces are true and what pieces only lived in their minds.

I am afraid to say too much in this review because I may give away some of the mystery, but do yourself a favor and buy this book. It had so many twists and turns and was impossible to put down.

Not what I expected. The build-up turned out to be a let-down. I figured out part of the ending less than halfway through the book, but it was too unbelievable to really comprehend. You might enjoy this story plot and character development, but I did not.

I received this book free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book sounded cool that’s why I picked it up. The first half of the book was decent but I could tell what was going to happen right away. I was only wrong about one small part lol. The second half of the book felt unfinished like it went too quick just to end. Ali don’t know good overall story just not well executed.

I’d probably still recommend it, maybe to beginner mystery thriller readers.
