Well damn.
This was such an intense read.
Firstly this cover!
This story was so interesting from start to end. From the world building, the magic system and the characters.
Wren and the Frost king as two of the most stubborn people and I loved it. There's nothing better then a great enemies to lovers with strong chemistry from the start.
I 100% recommend this to fans of Laura Thalassa for sure.
I'm becoming a real sucker for stories like these. Enemies to lovers, tragic stories, sarcasm, fiery tempers, strong protagonists.
This book literally ticked all of my boxes. I'll be grabbing a copy of this when it comes out for sure.
I was given a copy from NetGalley for an honest review.
Thank you Alexandria Warwick and Andromeda Press for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book! I had high expectations and yet, this book exceeded them. I am so happy to have read this. Definitely one of my favorite books of the year!
This book is all that you could wish for. A heart-racing, brain-wracking, nerve-tweaking story with multiple cliffhangers and lush, dark romance that would keep you up for hours on time. The characters have all but taken my heart. You can really see the character development in the characters and between them. It was so fascinating to read about how Wren and Boreas's relationship and feelings grew for each other.
Not only was the romance so good, cute, fluffy, and full of enemies to lovers, but the story plot and how it was played out by Alexandria Warwick was just as good! The plot kept my nerves on edge, and the way that they were told, the writing played an important part in that. The way that Warwick described the characters, their pain and hatred for each other was too good to be true! Seriously, this is the best enemies to lovers book that I have read this year.
Let's not forget that the plot, the mischief, the brother, everything. The plot was so well told and thought upon, and it adds another edge to the romance, making their relationship, Wren and Boreas, even stronger!
Okay so let me start off by saying that there wasn’t a single part of this book that I didn’t like.
I will be preordering it as soon as I’m finished here.
Absolutely incredible. I’m a sucker for grumpy gods and fiery ladies with weapons. But this? This is by far one of the best books I’ve read in a while.
The writing? Perfect
The characters? Amazing. Wren is an amazing character. Goodness I loved her so much! And our frosty Winter King? Delicious.
The world building? Awesome.
I kept checking to see how much I had left because I didn’t want it to end.
Also, the tension? The spice? I just loved it. Truly an amazing enemies to lovers, fantasy romance with a HEA. Just what I needed to give me warm fuzzies as the days get colder.
10/10 I will be recommending this to anyone and everyone.
Thank you NetGalley!
The North Wind is a contemporary and eclectic mix of romance, gore, action, and fantasy, and I found that unexpected combo to be strangely fascinating. Told entirely from the POV of Wren, this standalone novel follows her as she navigates her new reality as the Frost King’s wife, forced into marriage so that her blood can sustain the Shade which protects their land from darkwalkers.
There were so many things that I loved about this book, but the greatest of these has to be Wren’s character. Like many fictional heroines, she’s the kind of person who sacrifices her own comfort and well-being for those that she loves. Unlike most fictional heroines, she actually demonstrates the side-effects of such behavior. She develops an alcohol addiction to cope with her sadness, and the novel takes its time in giving her the room to heal and get sober. On multiple occasions she also realizes that no one will help her if she isn’t helping herself. Instead of being rescued, she does the rescuing, even when her life is the only one being saved. Overall, I thought Wren was very well written and broke many of the stereotypical traits of the Belle/Persephone character.
My biggest critique is that I wish that the world had been more fully fleshed out. The fantasy aspect didn’t seem to be the main focus, and the plot resolution certainly suffered in that respect. However, I feel that book two will certainly have the room and ability to give more detail to this strange and intriguing world.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Andromeda Press for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Give me a nice cup of coffee, some falling snow, and a comfy blanket and this is what I'll be reading.
Things I loved:
-Wintry atmosphere is perfect
-writing is flowery and lush, but not too much (its the perfect combo)
-giving me a super slow burn but with when the moments happen, they're steamy
-one bed trope......... need I say more
-muderous main character
I mean, it's another mashup of Beauty & the Beast/Hades & Persephone kind of retelling, but with a few twists. I'm not mad about it, because at times I couldn't put it down. I think the handling of alcohol abuse was well done, and wasn't sugar coated. There were a few times when I wanted Wren to admit her feelings a bit more than she was doing, and in the middle it would have been nice to explain the Shade things a bit better. I would have also liked a few more questions answered from the ending, but I imagine we'll get those answers in the next book The West Wind, and hell yes, you bet I'm picking it up.
I just started reading this book and I love it! I can't wait to see where the story takes me! My weakness is enemies-to-lovers fantasy books, so I cannot wait to see where Ms. Warwick takes us! I want to thank the author and the publisher for this advanced copy and I look forward to editing this review once I'm done reading!
A enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance, Greek lore story!! Gimme Please!
I just had to jump on here and say Thank You to Andromeda Press for this approval!
I will come back to this and edit review when finished reading.... Couldn't hold back my excitement!
