I am surprised so many good reviews...were we reading the same book? I found this to be boring. I never felt the chemistry between Patsy and Nicky. He was a bore and she was immature.
A delightfully well-written look at an opposites attract romance in Regency England. Patricia and Nicolai are as opposite as it gets. Yet the passion that flairs between the two can't be denied. I really enjoyed reading this book and will definitely recommend.
Thank you Anna Markland, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
Historical Romance with a Dash of Suspense
He keeps calling her “Lady Patricia,” but she wants to be called Patsy. She keeps calling him “Nicky,” but he wants her to call him Nicolai. Patsy and Nicolai are attracted to one another, but they are too different, or are they? They call him “Sticky Nicky” because he is a stickler for rules, but perhaps, there is a mischievous man under all that stiffness. She speaks her mind, something a lady ought not to do, at least in those days. As Nicolai and Patsy aggravate each other, they find themselves falling in love. In the meantime, things come to a head when a gang of criminals steals a priceless treasure, near-and-dear to Nicolai’s mother. If you like historical romance with a dash of suspense and sprinkles of humor, you might enjoy this tale.
This was an absolutely delightful read!
It is the third book in the Earl's are Wild series and my first by Ms. Markland. I had no trouble reading it as a standalone. It's a fun, humorous, lighthearted read that will have you smiling and laughing all the way through. Ms. Markland has created a witty and charming opposites attract tale that is sure to satisfy your taste for a good Regency romp. Nikolai and Patsy are total opposites. Patsy is mischievous and impulsive and her enthusiasm is not always appreciated. Nikolai is a by the book kind of guy and likes to follow the rules. Despite their difference in personalities, or maybe because of, Nikolai is quite drawn to Patsy and seeks her company. As they begin to understand each other more, they begin to develop a sweet bond. Their unique friendship lands them in some danger and an unexpected adventure.
This was a very entertaining story. The writing is fun and witty, and will pull you in right from the start and will leave you with a smile on your face. I enjoyed the book and plan to go back and read the books I missed.
I received a complimentary advanced reader's copy from Dragonblade Publishing via Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
A funny enjoyable book about different characters who are opposite in their attitudes. It is good to see how their romance blossoms. The book is one l picked up and read in one night. I do recommend that you read this book.
This is a free preview copy I received from NetGalley and this is my freely given review.
This is a third novel in the Earl's are Wild series by Anna Markland. This is the story of Patsy, the daughter of the previously widowed Emma Crompton of the first book, Every Earl has a Silver Lining, and the step daughter of the current Earl. It is now about 10 years or so after the story of Emma and Gabriel Smith. Patsy is now Out as a Debutante in the London Season, and being presented and chaperoned by her aunt and uncle, Susan and Griff, the Countess and Earl of Pendlebury, the protagonists of the second book, Wild Earl Chase.
Patsy seems to have grown up to be a vivacious, free spirited, rather impulsive, horse-loving young woman. She does not appear to be overly interested in the Season as a marriage market, but wanting to experience London, the sites, and the experiences of the balls, dancing, etc.
She meets a variety of young men, including the Earl of Ainsworth, Nicolai. He is a young man of 24, and half Russian and half Welsh, which makes him, in the eyes of some, a foreigner, and a target for prejudice and mistreatment when he was younger. Because of this, he is known to be rather staid and a stickler for rules, hence his nickname, Sticky Nicky. He has no intentions of being on the lookout for a wife, but is in London for the Season, at the insistence of his marriage-minded (so long as it is the "right" female) mother, the Countess, Lady Olga. He is using the time in London to his advantage, to search out fine art and add to his collection. He is also on the Board of Trustees for the National Gallery. Obviously, Fine Art is something he seems rather passionate about.
Two young people, who seem to have very divergent interests and personalities.
They both seem a bit emotionally immature... He seems to blow hot and cold. Patsy changes her mind about marriage and encourages him, and often shows affection a bit over enthusiastically. But he alternates between showing interest, spending time with her and her family, to being cool and somewhat disdainful of her, especially when his mother shows she dislikes Patsy and favours him courting the daughters of dukes. But it is not just her. Nicolai seems to be, well, a bit too full of himself. He seems to have disdain towards his own Russian heritage and that causes a rift between his and his own mother, and her perceived "foreign" behaviours. He is unaware of his Russian family history until he finally asks her. He has his two friends from Eton, but seems to look down on them for not sharing interests in culture. Even Patsy and her family, for their interest in horses, until he spends some time with them at a Derby. Regardless, blowing hot and cold is a big turn off for me, and a few bouts of that and I would have been telling Patsy to toss him over.
In the latter half of the novel, Nicolai seems to loosen up, learn to accept more of himself and his history, and his attraction to Patsy. This, and the recovery of a family treasure help his relationship with his mother, and also endears Patsy to her new mother-in-law as well.
Initially, I was prone to not like Nicolai, as really did seem to have quite a large stick wedged up his arse (hence the nickname Sticky Nicky; which is the nicer version of what was given to him). But as he loosened up, I liked him a lot more, and felt that their relationship was quite sweet. I enjoyed that this story was about the daughter first seen in the first novel, and it was nice to see the characters from the previous two novels too, and some carry over of the storylines, including referencing Patsy's kidnapping in the first novel.
A bit frustrating to start with, but ultimately some humour and warm resolution in the end. So 3.5 out of 5 stars for me.
I am a big fan of this author and knew right away I had to pick this book up.
The banter between Nicolai "Nicky" and Patsy throughout the book is wonderful. I have to say that is what made the book for me. I enjoyed the adventure that drives the book too, but the banter and chemistry between them while they are learning to grow as people between them rules the day. I really want more books in the series and I need to know what happens to the twins. Great historical read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A stick to the rules Earl finds himself enchanted with a debutant who speaks her mind. It makes for amusing situations. He is into art, she is interested in horses. Opposites do attract. It's a quick romance and marriage when a painting he wants is stolen along with a fan that belonged to Catherine the
Great, his Russian mother's most prized possession. It's off to France for their honeymoon to find the thieves. Fast paced with a different tone as a couple discovers love. .

London 1827
It was her first London season and she was so excited just to experience the fun and entertainment she had never experience. No hurry to find a husband!
He was conservative, somewhat staid, probably due to his Russian heritage, and the fact his mother was a whirlwind! Totally opposite from one Patsy Crompton.
But the more he is around her, he cannot help but begin to be fascinated with her exuberance. But mischief is afoot and they find themselves caught up in an unexpected adventure!
Fun, entertaining and a delight, cannot wait to read more in this series!
Nikolai Morgan-Lloyd, Earl of Ainsworth, loves art and always follows the rules. Nikolai's Russian Mother would dearly love to have him marry a Duke's daughter.
Lady Patricia (Patsy) Crompton has come to London for a season but could care less about finding a husband. Patsy loves horses, having fun, is impulsive, and tends to speak before thinking.
However, when the two meet, the pull is there proving the saying that opposites do attract! Nikolai and Patsy only can think each other.
A fun read!
Slow and Steady Wins the Earl is an opposites attract historical romance. There are several things that I really liked and make it a little different from other historical romances I’ve read. His interest in art. I thought it was interesting learning the history behind some of the buildings and painters. His Russian background. I loved getting some Russian history and influence on the characters. Even though they are opposites they both try to learn about each other’s interests. That’s a sign of a healthy relationship, but not something you often see in romance novels. This book does have some steamy scenes, but they are more sweet than spicy. Overall it was a good read. It doesn’t have a ton of drama in it.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my review, but the thoughts and opinions are my own
Slow and Steady Wins the Earl by Anna Markland is a bout a grownup Patsy and her man of choice, Nikolai, who can't seem to make up his mind. First, about getting married at all, and then about Patsy. She meets him at a ball and for his part; she is the only person he danced with who could dance a waltz. For her part, he is too blond, too tall, and too stodgy. They grow on one another, however, and he takes an interest in horses and she, in art. Then, she sees his mother attacked while they are at a horse race. Nicky takes his mother back to their lodgings and then, home. The race is over so Patsy and her aunt and uncle decide to return home as well. On the way, they come to an overturned carriage. It is Nickolai's. The driver has been shot, each of the tow horses has a broken leg, and the carriage lies in ruins. Patsy's heart turns over. Nikolai and his mother are largely undamaged and they return home. Griffith takes Nicolai to Sir Robert Peel to see how to go about finding these thieves, and Peer sends them to France, but he wanted them to use the cover of two couples traveling. They must get married so they can make this trip. Both have compelling reasons to marry. Neither mentions love.
Patsy is an exuberant, forthright young woman who says and does things without thinking. Nicky is just the opposite. He is conservative, a rule-follower above all. Yet, they are inexplicably drawn to one another. Both are loyal and loving, which will go a long way. Patsy recognized the man she had seen Attaching Nicky's mother. She had seen him before at the art gallery Nicky had taken her to. So after Robert Peel, they visited it. It had been torched and the painting, which had so enthralled Nicky, was gone. She didn't hesitate when she saw the same man in Paris. This is a good plot with plenty of sub-plots to keep it interesting. The pacing was good and the romance was different and delightful. It is so good to see each of them having a positive effect on the other. This is a compelling read. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Patsy Crompton, the Earl of Farnworth’s beloved stepdaughter, is now a young lady headed for her first London season. It will be a different life from the one she’s used to in the north of England. She’s looking forward to the experiences that are a rite of passage for debutantes. But she’s in no hurry to find a husband—until she waltzes with Nicolai Morgan-Lloyd, Earl of Ainsworth. Nicolai has inherited his Russian mother’s colouring but none of her flamboyant personality. In fact, he’s known as a stickler for rules. He's an expert on fine art. She's a thoroughbred horseracing aficionado. Their unlikely friendship lands them in the clutches of a gang intent on stealing a priceless Russian artefact that once belonged to Catherine the Great.
This is the third book in the series & whilst it could be read on its own we do catch up with characters from the earlier books in the series. I did like Nicky & Patsy but didn’t love them, in fact they bored me a little. I would have preferred more of the story to centre around the artefact. Whilst still a well written story it was my least favourite of the series
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Lady Patricia Crompton has travelled down to London to have her season. She doesn't care if she finds a husband. She just wants to have fun, and experience all the entertainment the city has to offer.
Nikolai Morgan-Lloyd ,Earl of Ainsworth is known to his friends as a stick in the mud and someone who always follows the rules. His mother on the other hand is very flamboyant and proud of her Russian heritage.
Patsy is impulsive and tends to speak before she thinks. Her mischievous streak is not always appreciated.
Nikolai soon discovers he has a hidden liking for mischief that he has never noticed before.
This is a fun-filled historical romance with great characters. The descriptions of the art, the racing and Astley's hippodrome are so realistic and fascinating I could see them. There is a little danger and an adventure.
This is the third book in the series but easily read on it's own. We do get to meet some of our friends from the previous books.
Great fun, I loved it.
Opposites attract in this romantic novel that has the main characters on a merry chase. Nicolai is known for her rigidness and conformity to rules, whilst Patsy's enthusiastic take on life has her bubbling out inappropriate responses at the most awkward times. Nevertheless, Nicolai cannot help himself and is drawn in by Patsy's cheeky quips. With his mother in tow, they travel to London to attend the season, but the dramatic dower countess embarrasses him at every turn. Putting Patsy and Lady Olga together is a recipe for disaster. Despite himself, Nikolai cannot stay away from Patsy, and as they start to learn about each other a sweet understanding forms between them. I found myself entertained by the main characters and wondered how on earth they were going to bridge their different backgrounds. Ultimately it takes a disaster to bring them all together and the story to a happy conclusion. I received a copy of this book as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.
From the book blurb I was really looking forward to this story but the anticipation was much better the book itself. I would have preferred the adventure element (aka the recovery of the Russian artefact) to have been the main focus of the plot but it only lasted a couple of chapters about three-quarters of the way through and was over and resolved too quickly. I also got tired and bored of the references to Patsy’s reactions to Nicolai aka Nicky, and vice versa. Sorry, not my favourite story of this author.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Patsy, a debutant who does not like rules, thinks the last person she would be attracted to this Season is the straight laced Nicolai. Nicholai feels Patsy is too outspoken for him, Both, however, can not ignore their attraction for each other. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.

Lots of fun and very entertaining as well as informative.
Great writing that’s always lighthearted and enjoyable, Anna has a wonderful gift, that always produces a great story.
Russia and England collide in these two main characters, horse racing, art and a journey to France, what more could you ask.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

The third story of the series and sadly my least favorite. Don’t get me wrong it’s still a good story but it just didn’t hold my attention and hit me in the feelz like books one & two. This book brings us full circle as we see Patsy Crompton, the Earl of Farnworth’s beloved stepdaughter, who was a child in Every Earl Has a Silver Lining, now she is navigating her first season with assistance from Earl Griffith Halliwell and his countess Susan who are featured in book two, Wild Earl Chase. It was fun to see all the characters from the previous two stories and then of course meeting Patsy’s love, Nicolai Morgan-Lloyd, Earl of Ainsworth.
These two break all sorts of polite societies rules during the story as Patsy is impulsive and an emotional whirlwind. The usual stickler for proprietary, Nicolai, finds out breaking rules really can be fun. The marriage between these two, hell the entire relationship, occurred very fast. Then a daring trip to France threatens their happily ever after.
Honestly, I found this book to lack depth, the MCs were not very fleshed out, there were side characters who served absolutely no purpose, and Nicolai’s mom was very annoying. Then there was a family connection mentioned to Catherine the Great which was not fully developed. It felt like the author had a bunch of ideas that she had to tie into this story because it’s the last of the series.
