4.5 stars...
Another fab read by E.J Noyes, and most definitely one of my favorites by this author. She has this fantastic talent of not only writing good stories but is able to write about some heavy topics but able to include some banter in areas of the book too, so it cushions some of the harder issues. This story is gripping, it's a book where you can't seem to put it down for longer than 5 minutes. Loved, loved how 'Alone' was brought into a conversation between the 2 main characters, that was pure genius!
I was given an Arc copy for an honest review.
Ever since I read the first book by E.J. Noyes I have come to expect brilliant writing with very diverse and well-executed stories. And the start of Go Around does not disappoint at all. It is very dramatic and gripping and kicks off the second chance story as well as the interwoven criminal investigation. Well done! I settled back for another brilliant story where the two main characters are set up in a sort of Kammerspiel where the two main characters hash everything out in a very intimate setting. This is where Noyes really pulls off (again) the power of a first person POV in present tense. And there are wonderful intimate, erotic scenes as well.
And then the story fizzles out – the second chance story circles around and around the obvious obstacle, we have seen all antics of the cute dog, the secondary story arc virtually disappears …. although a lot of hints are dropped about guns, the very nice doggy and some more and …. nothing happens for a very long time. Now knowing Noyes there will happen something and it does. But all in all, I felt that the plot was quite unbalanced although the writing was again brilliant.
5 star
E. J. Noyes is one of my favorite author's. I don't know how she does it but she creates so much emotion, interesting content and characters. Except for 2 action scenes, and some really hot sex,, most of the story is dialog. Really, really, good dialog. It is natural, clever, witty and sometimes very emotional. The characters are very likeable and the chemistry between the two main characters is very warm and very sexy.
Great story. Another Noyes winner.
Second chances
Before Elise became a hit on tv she and Avery were together for more than 5 years. Everything looked like HEA and they even got a young dog to come live with them in their house.
But with Elise´s rising fame the media´s interest increased and she just was not comfortable with outing herself or being outed by acknowledging her realtionship with Avery. A break up was the consequence.
One year later Avery seems to be healed and she is doing fine. At last that is what she tells herself. But when during (what starts as a routine work day as a Federal Air Marshal) her Ex and now very famous tv star Elise is her seat neighbour something seems to be not that fine at all.
After some tension with a fan turning crazy stalker Elise asks to stay for a few days at Avery´s house. After some reluctance every bad feeling Avery had about her decision to help becomes reality. It is as if seemingly no time has passed. An not only their dogs´s heart recognizes her immediately but Avery´s heart suddenly seems to have a mind on its own too.
Old feeling get rekindled but there is the one thing that broke them up looming on the horizon darker than ever: Elise is still not out and Avery dosn´t want to be a dirty little secret.
There is this thing almost everybody mentions at the begining of their review: This is a book by E.J. Noyes. Period. What more is there to say ;-) And it is true. Very few names have that echo in the wlw community.
I love her range of stories and her vivid imagination. With her characters I almost always get invested and feel for and with them like with Avery and Elise.
Sometimes there is an animal that almost steals the show and Bennett the dog is a good example of that.
After her very obvious reference to one of her outstanding other books "Alone" and weaving it into this story cleverly I kept looking for clues of her other amazing book titles. And I will believe until EJ tells me otherwise that the words "Don´t ask" and "General" in two consecutively sentences is no coincidence!
Aside from a lot of steam there are more than a few very tense and suspense situations. This will be read again by me.
E.J. Noyes is one of my favorite authors. Her works are just awesome! I love every single one of her books. Her newest novel, Go Around is definitely being added to my “I love this!” list.
This is an absolutely splendid second-chance, romantic intrigue, celebrity story with Emmy award winning actress Elise Hayes as one main character, and Federal Air Marshal Avery Weston as the other. The tale also includes a really creepy and possibly dangerous stalker (or stalkers) and a secondary character that comes pretty close to stealing my heart, Avery’s dog, Bennett.
Noyes excels at writing both romance and intrigue and it shows in this book. Her characters might as well be real they are so well-written. I’m a pretty big fan of second-chance love stories, and I love the way this one is done. You get the angst you expect from the two women trying to get past the pain of their separation and work their way back to being a couple in love. The outside forces that had a role in their breakup are still around and have to be dealt with. Add in a nasty bad guy (or guys) who are physically and psychologically stalking Elise and you get a tale full of danger, excitement, intrigue, and romance.
I also love the Easter egg the author included for her book Alone. I actually laughed out loud at that little scene.
E.J. Noyes’ works always get my highest praise and recommendation, and this novel is no different. You really need to read this book.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Bella Books for an honest review.
An honest review thanks to NetGalley. I love EJ Noyes, she is one of my favorite authors in the lesbian romance category. This book was no different, it was very good. I felt the emotions of the characters were feeling and went through so much sad and happy emotions while reading. The reason this is not a five star is just because after getting to know Elise while reading it didn't fit with her personality on how she left at the beginning. Overall though this was a great read and I know I will probably re read it soon!
This is a second chance romance Avery is a Federal Air Marshal and Elise is an actress. The characters are very real and the emotions are very good.
The plot encompasses different points of view while also including kidnapping and stalking. Elise and Avery try to come back together but it is not easy and leaves many raw emotions. Elise has to deal with her sexuality. while being a famouse figure. She had left Avery the first time over coming out.
I found this a very compelling book and would recommend it to romance readers.
I don’t particularly enjoy second chance romances but I gave this one a go as I’m a big fan of EJ Noyes who could probably write a shopping list and I’d still find it a wonderful read. Unsurprisingly, I wasn’t disappointed. The two characters had a lot of chemistry, and while I struggled to like Elise at the beginning due to the circumstances of the break up, having the story told from Avery’s point of view worked and I soon warmed up to what a cute little family Avery, Elise and their dog Bennett made. I liked how the author didn’t gloss over the break up and had them work through their issues gradually and with maturity. It was a very engaging read despite being set almost entirely in the main characters’ homes with not much else happening.
I picked this up and couldn’t put it down. It picks up in the second and third chapter and then levels out with a bit of angst and build up. The cutsy banter starts to emerge and I just ended up consuming the whole book in one session.
It was a good blend of plot and love story. The plot that brings the two back together is exciting and well written lending to some high tension, action sequences.
The chemistry between the two characters was well written. The attraction and passion are fun to read in all the steamy interludes but there’s just as much in the everyday small details of a life they built together and how well they know and see each other.
There’s so much to like. I’d highly recommend.
E. J. Noyes does it again. And honestly I wasn’t even worried if this would be another good book. The author really knows how to write a good story with good characters.
A lot of the times second chance romances have flashbacks, written as actually flashbacks and I was hoping Noyes wouldn’t go there because I can’t stand those. Luckily we do get to know about Avery and Elise’s past but not by way of flashbacks. I’d call them conversations or musings by Avery. In true Noyes fashion this book is written in first person POV, we are in Avery’s headspace. And while I liked to have gotten some insight into Elise’s feelings, especially with the suspense storyline, I do think it is the right choice to stick with Avery.
I would say in any other type of romance and a second chance where the first relationship was longer ago, the quick developments of their relationship wouldn’t have worked. I had my doubts, but I actually like how the author has done it. I think the stalker storyline really helps as well, as weird as that sounds.
While we are on the subject, I like how the suspense of this storyline is written, I could have done with a little more of it. And I think that’s where Elise’s POV would have been very welcome. But the start and ending of that storyline was great and very suspenseful.
Also, fun way of Noyes to remind me of one of my favourite books ever: Alone.
Another great one by Noyes, just her name alone on the cover should be enough to read this one. But if you need a bigger incentive and my words of endorsement for here you have it.
I just finished Go Around last night, and I will now need a recovery period. I can't remember reading a book with a better, more exciting ending EVER.
Go Around is a celebrity second chance romantic intrigue. Who else could so successfully mash up three different tropes? Throw in a canine sidekick and a MC with a job I can't remember reading about before (Federal Air Marshal), along with an absolutely brilliant Easter egg that shows up a couple of times, and a naked gun-shooting scene. There are so many potential spoilers but every reader needs and deserves to experience them.
Side note, in my day job I've been peripherally involved in the procurement of PS5s (as well as XBox Series) for fifteen months now, and EJ Noyes nailed this whole phenomenon.
Go Around is absolutely my favorite Noyes since Alone. There is no other author as creative and entertaining.
Getting over a breakup when your ex’s face is everywhere isn’t easy. And maybe Avery Weston doesn’t really want to get over the woman who broke her heart when she chose her career over their relationship. Convinced at the time that being closeted was the best move, Elise Hayes can’t help but wonder if she’s maybe made the wrong choice. An incident on a plane brings the Federal Air Marshal and the award-winning actress together, opening up all sorts of possibilities.
If you’ve read my reviews before, you already know how much I love second chance romance novels. And while this book didn’t wow me as completely as Noyes’s previous books, she brings something to the trope that I haven’t read often, or at least not so well-written and described. She takes time to analyze the breakup, really raises the issues that made the relationship fail the first time around, showing that love and hurt aren’t antithetical even when the loving seems meant to be.
There is no lack of love in this story. In fact, Avery and Elise are always telling the other how much they love them. And yet, all this love, this huge, overwhelming, undying love doesn’t seem to matter, or to be enough at any rate, in the face of so much fear. While I was reading this book, Kristen Stewart’s engagement to Dylan Meyer was announced. And I couldn’t help but think, Elise, if Kristen can come out, you can too.
I love both main characters. They’re endearing, they’re real, they’re strangely relatable for people with unusual jobs. Even when I wasn’t sure where the story was going, I cared about them and what would happen to them.
A couple of things bothered me. While I was hoping Elise would fix the situation, her turnaround felt rushed. One day she can’t see a way out and the next, it’s done. Another regret was the bad guy arc, which seemed simplistic, a word I never thought I’d use for a Noyes book.
As I mentioned above, lack of love was never the problem in this relationship, and neither was lack of chemistry. Sparks fly every which way whenever Avery and Elise are in the same room and it doesn’t take them long to get reacquainted, even as they agree they can’t be together. And as usual, E. J. Noyes delivers on intimate scenes. For me, they’re the best part of the book (with the fact that the characters are very likeable) and made me forget every issue I might have had with the story.
A new release by E. J. Noyes is always thrilling news. Now I’m waiting for May 2022 and If I Don’t Ask, Rebecca Keane’s point of view on the Ask, Tell series. How exciting is that?
E. J. Noyes is a writer that just makes up her own rules when it comes to writing sapphic novels. This is a second chance romance. But instead of the formula years apart, the couple broke up only 15 months ago. Avery is a Federal Air Marshal and while on duty her ex, Elise Hayes, is in the seat next to her for a flight. Elise is the star of a hot new tv show which has already won her an Emmy. After a crazed fan causes an incident onboard the flight Elise asks if she can stay with Avery for a few days to feel safe.
Again Noyes doesn't use flashbacks to tell the couples story but instead we get their romance from wonderful adult conversations. Elise is closeted and fearing for her career walks out on Avery when she gets her new tv role. The dialogue is riveting as Avery says the break up was out of the blue but to Elise she thought they had discussed things at length. There was never a question of loving each other. In fact they are both only beginning to move on after over a year apart. Noyes takes another departure by having them reconnect physically early on but instead of bringing them closer Avery regrets it and the storyline again is beautifully progressed through their conversations. This is normally where I would say this is a low angst story but then Noyes throws in a creepy stalker threat. And of course issue that broke up the the two still has to be resolved too.
The story is told first person from Avery's POV and because of all the conversations I understand Elise's feelings and viewpoints. The story has scenes with sizzling heat and includes Bennett a wonderful side kick dog. (There are only a couple of side characters in the novel.) I'm always on the look out for any book by the author. Thank you to NetGalley and Bella Books for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
E.J. Noyes is definitely one of the best writers in the lesfic genre. After finishing each of her books, I always ask myself, “How is it possible that with each new book, she completely out does herself?” I am truly in awe of her ability to craft such emotional stories. She is a master at writing in the first person point of view. She’s able to give the reader so much insight into her lead characters’ feelings, emotions, and thoughts. The celebrity romance is a common trope in lesfic and I eat them up just like zillions of other readers. But I have to say that with the exception of KE Lane’s , And Playing the Role of Herself and Elle Spencer’s, Casting Lacey, this book is the best that’s been written.
From word go, readers are taken on an emotionally intense ride throughout several weeks in the lives of Avery and Elise, exes who are caught up in a dangerous web cast by a stalker. While living together, they not only deal with Elise’s life being spin danger but also the feelings for one another that never left after their breakup. The chemistry between the two as well as the love they had for one another was palpable. Their conversations are real, raw, and deep with a little sarcasm and humor beneath the surface. It’s intense, thrilling, and a real page turner. Ms. Noyes, you are an amazing writer and I thank you for sharing your amazing gift with the world. I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!
One of the reasons I enjoy E J Noyes novels so much is the variety of backdrops, and the consistency of the excellent storytelling and narrative. "Go Around" is a second chance romance and suspense novel between a celebrity and an Air Marshall. When the actress comes face to face with a persistent stalker, fortunately the air marshall is in the right place at the same time.
The chemistry in Noyes novels always sizzles on the page. And this really sizzles. The sexual chemistry is evident from the intense and at times lengthy sex scenes, which will be popular amongst readers. I just wasn't expecting as much as there is, and at times wanted to get beyond the sheets literally to the suspense that I had a bad feeling about. And there you have it. The reader gets drawn into the narrative, and yet there is an awareness that not everything is as it seems, that sooner or later this sapphic idyll will be interrupted. Bonus in this story is the inclusion of the fabulous Bennett. I would never tire of reading about his days and adventures.
Back to the characters. Elise and Avery are well-drawn, fabulous characters with evident chemistry. A chance encounter catapults them together mid-air and from then it is a relatively seamless reason to cross paths and bedrooms again. Of course, Bennett is the one that is needed to make this work and work it does.
It's a 4.5 stars from me. A bit less sex and bit (lot) more Bennett would be just perfect.
Many thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this very enjoyable novel.
I will first be up front and say Ms. Noyes is one of my favorite authors, BUT, this review is as biased free as I can make it...smile.
Go Around, is a 2nd chance type of romance, but it is also a suspenseful story of obsessed fan. There is romance, mystery, face paced action and steamy scenes, so yes Ms. Noyes hit it out of the park once again! Also, loved that there were just a bit of Alone (one of Ms. Noyes other books, which I happens to be one of my favs) references, so that was fun for me. Keep in ;mind this book is written with a first person POV, Avery, but I like this type of writing style so please don't let that through you if it isn't your cup of tea, Ms. Noyes keeps the pace going so the story moves along and you really just melt right into Avery's character.
Both MC, Avery and Elise, are very believable, and the story gives them both great interaction and chemistry. Even after I was done reading (which I read all in one sitting), I was thinking about them hours later-which for me is a great sign of a good book. One of the many things I enjoy about Ms. Noyes characters is they are written with great maturity and level headiness', her characters are just relatable and thoroughly grown-up without making them feel 80 years old (if that makes sense).
I highly recommend this book and any of Ms. Noyes' books (ok might be a bit biased here), just great stories and writing.
I received an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, but would have written the same opinion if I had come across this author on my own.
To see my Amazon review, it is under CC-Flying High with this story
4.5 stars. There is always a feeling of anticipation and excitement when a new book by Noyes is released. You never know exactly what to expect. Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to read this. This time it was a second chance romance with a suspense/thriller element to it and it was once again a fantastic read.
Told, as customary for Noyes, in first person from the POV of Avery, the story almost immediately drops you into the action. Avery is a Federal Air Marshal and is inconveniently seated next to her ex, Elise, the beautiful actress that Avery never stopped loving. As if that is not bad enough they have to deal with a crazy fan on the flight and a stalker situation and Elise has no place to go but stay at Avery’s place for a while. The thing with second chance romances is that they often have many flashbacks, and I’m not a fan of those, but of course I should not have worried, because it is dealt with so perfectly. Tidbits of the past are woven into the storyline without me even noticing the flashbacks, it all felt so natural, this is the way flashbacks should be handled. Also, the romance was perfectly executed, good communication, no immediate forgiveness, and enough drama without going over the top. Noyes has a way of always making me care so much about the characters, even the ones without a POV.
The only minor point of critique I have on this book is about the suspense arc, it starts full on with the crazy fan on the plane, but then it slows down for quite some time. That, while second chance romances are actually one of the few romance tropes that can get away with a heavy suspense arc, as the MCs already have a history together. But, this was not the route that was chosen, the middle part of the book is heavy on the romance and I found myself constantly waiting for the inevitable to happen. However, once it did happen…..wow, that was excellent suspense!
I also liked the secondary characters, but one character deserves a special shout out and that’s Bennet (aka Bennie) Avery’s massive gentle dog, he stole my heart.
I’m sure all fans of Noyes will have this book on their automatic to-read list (and there are a few fun references to “Alone”), but for those who don’t, I highly recommend this book. A great second-chance romance, and steamy scenes. Did I mention those? No, I did not, so, yes, steamy scenes and some good suspense!

I absolutely loved “Go Around” by E.J. Noyes. It’s a second chance romance along with a thriller/suspense plot line. Avery Weston is a Federal Air Marshal and she’s finally starting to get over her famous ex-girlfriend, Elise Hayes. She’s shocked when on a return flight to LA her seatmate is none other than Elise.
Second chance romance is probably my favorite trope so as soon as I saw that in the blurb, I was hooked. I love how Noyes writes and I was interested to see how she would tackle the trope as everyone seems to do it a bit differently. She doesn’t bog you down with flashbacks but she’s still able to get everything important from the initial romance and breakup included into the narrative.
This is one of the few times where I absolutely liked both characters. They were both so different from each other but you could understand what drew the other one in. Even with the stalker storyline, I felt like this was more character driven and that’s why I was so into this. There are a lot of discussions and arguments between the two as they try to come to grips with their past and try and move on, whether together or separately.
Some people might consider this to be high angst but it was like catnip to me. Avery and Elise have scorching chemistry and there’s a lot of push/pull between them because the reason for the breakup is still there, but their love for one another is still going strong.
The stalker storyline was also gripping. He’s an unhinged fan and with the way it’s written it felt very realistic and scary. It doesn’t take up a whole lot of page time as it’s more in the background for a good portion of the book; but what is there is a page turner.
Highly recommend for fans of second chance and/or celebrity romances.

Second chance at love with a bit of crime thrown in. Good story about an in the closet actress and her air marshall ex. Actress being stalked goes to ex for help.
A common factor in this author's books is that her female protagonists are extremely mature, rational and willing to discuss with their partners any matter that is relevant to the relationship, without fear of being exposed or vulnerable. In short, they are adult and intelligent women. That does not mean that they are perfect, or that all the decisions they make are the right ones, but what is certain is that they do not leave us wondering why they act the way they do and cursing nonsensical behavior.
In this case, the protagonists are two women, an actress, Elise, and a US Marshal, Avery. They were a couple while Elise began her career, for several years. But once she became more and more famous, being poorly advised by her agents, she feared for the damage that coming out of the closet could cause her professionally and broke up with Avery abruptly. Avery was really the one who was the most shocked and she is not going to make things easy for Elise, as much as the attraction and the feelings continue as before. Bennett, the dog that the couple had and who stayed with Avery, plays an important role in the whole reconciliation. The rest of the secondary ones, although at some point they do have relevance, they are very minor.
The main thing here is the way in which the two interact, express their doubts, express their feelings, fight for what they want but with so much respect and enormous affection.
A story to be enjoyed immensely.
