I got this ARC based largely on the ratings of the author's earlier work. That mostly worked in that I liked this overall. It wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but it is a good story with interesting characters. I think a lot of space opera fans will like this.

Thanks very much for the free ARC for review!!

Lower three star rating. This was an all right read for me but I felt there were too many unnecessary POVs from people I didn’t care about, and who later just disappear—so what was the point?? I’m also surprised I read it all because lately I’ve not liked any plague type situations at all. 😉Additionally it felt like there was much more telling than showing.

I liked the ships and their avatars, and I would have enjoyed seeing more of Sam. The MC was interesting, too.

Still I liked it much better than the last book I tried by this author, which was a dnf, so that’s a win for me! I might be hesitant about his works but now I know that I can at least give them a fairer shot than previously. Last time might just not have been in the right mood.

The ending has me a bit baffled though. I mean… What?

When her sister disappears while responding to a mysterious alien distress call, Eryn insists on being part of the crew sent to look for her. What she discovers on Candidate-623 is both terrifying and deadly. When the threat follows her back to the fleet and people start dying, she is tasked with seeking out a legendary recluse who may just hold the key to humanity’s survival.

Stars and Bones by Gareth L Powell is a good, science fiction romp through the stars. I enjoyed the characterisation, the pacing and the threat, that was very enigmatic to begin with. Clearly this author stuck to the advice of not to show the enemy in full, so that the reader's imagination could go wild and clearly anticipation of what a monster is, is better than the actual monster itself!

Stars and Bones is a cracking read, one that I fully enjoyed and would highly recommend!

Having read the authors previous 3 books (and loved them) I was very excited to read this new book, maybe I raised my hopes a bit high, this is a good read and I hope in the next book it becomes great

I am giving this book 3,5 stars. This is not a bad novel and I liked, but also this isn't something that would make my nights sleeples. It's a good action novel, but also not terrible original. The writing is good and easy to follow. I was a little disappointed but the ending though.

Stars and Bones starts at a gallop and doesn't really stop for a good 50% of the novel.

The premise of the story is fascinating, the reading, easy going, and the main characters an eclectic bunch of which, I think the Ocelet and Sam are my favourite.

Having hauled on the reins for a bit of world-building at around the 50% mark, the story quickly regains its momentum, leading the reader to an intriguing, if not necessarily, entirely satisfying ending, in my personal opinion. Others may well love it.

I throughly enjoyed the world created by the author.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my review copy.
