Twisted con-woman triller about two women our for revenge-or justice. This book had me on the edge of my seat. I did not see the twist coming. It was fast paced and I did not want to put the book down. For fans of Taylor Swift's reputation era you will enjoy this book.

Excellent read! Julie Clark is a new author to me, and I'm already impressed! She delivers the perfect amount of suspense and psychological thrills all in one book. It's a great cat and mouse game, and it highlights what happens when we get obsessed, and can't let go of the past. Two women from two different paths cross each other, one wants revenge, the other wants a better life. Both women will have you rooting for them to the end!

Another dual-character point of view thriller from Julie Clark! I loved this one just as much as I loved Last Flight. Julie knows how to write a thriller!

I really enjoyed this book so much that I read it in one sitting. I will definitely recommend this book to all my family and friends. This was the first book I have read by this author and will not be my last.

I loved the Last Flight and was very happy that The Lies I Tell was just as good! I will read anything that Julie Clark writes. She has a unique writing style that works for me. The story focuses on two flawed female characters that have a connection and they meet again later in life. There is revenge and justice from different angles that makes this book hard to put down. A fantastic read!

Kat hopes to solidify her journalistic career with Meg’s story, so she does what any reasonable person would do: cozies up to the subject of her expose to gather more information. Meanwhile, Meg has returned to California to seek revenge against someone from her past who ruined her life. She’s perfected her skills over the past decade and she is going to absolutely destroy her target.

I don’t read a lot of thrillers or suspense novels, but the premise of this book intrigued me: the con artist and the woman determined to finally catch the con artist after years of waiting. The dual points of view shifted fairly often, keeping me on my metaphorical toes as I wondered who knew what and when.

There were several plot twists that I didn’t see coming, which is something I always appreciate because I’m usually pretty good at guessing what’s going to happen next. The “cat and mouse” game kept me intrigued throughout the narrative as I went back and forth between wanting Kat to get her big story and Meg to succeed in her quest for revenge.

I would absolutely recommend The Lies I Tell. I’m going to keep an eye out for more books by Clark in the future.

I really enjoyed Julie Clark's first book, The Last Flight, and this was an excellent follow up. The book kept me engaged with what the character's motivations were and who knew what. I look forward to her next publications.

"The Lies I Tell" by Julie Clark is an electrifying thriller that ensnares the reader in a masterful cat-and-mouse game, making it impossible to put down. From the outset, Clark demonstrates her adeptness at crafting a narrative that is as compelling as it is cunning, weaving a web of deceit, identity, and revenge that is both intricate and engrossing.

Clark's narrative prowess shines as she intricately plots the course of the story, drawing readers into a complex game of deception. The dynamic between the protagonist, a con artist with a mission, and her unsuspecting marks, is brilliantly executed, creating a tension-filled atmosphere that keeps the pages turning. The author's skill in character development is evident as she peels back the layers of her characters, revealing their motivations, vulnerabilities, and the pasts that haunt them. This depth not only enriches the story but also elevates it beyond the typical thriller.

The pacing of "The Lies I Tell" is relentless, propelling the story forward with twist after twist, each more surprising than the last. Clark's ability to maintain this momentum throughout the novel is a testament to her storytelling skill, ensuring that readers are hooked from beginning to end. The psychological depth of the narrative, combined with the high stakes of the cat-and-mouse game, makes for a riveting read.

Finishing "The Lies I Tell" in one sitting was a testament to its unputdownable nature. The satisfaction derived from the resolution of its intricately plotted storylines was immense, leaving me eagerly anticipating more works from Julie Clark. Her ability to craft a narrative that is as thought-provoking as it is thrilling is remarkable, making her a standout author in the thriller genre.

For anyone seeking a thriller that is not only captivating but also intelligently crafted, "The Lies I Tell" by Julie Clark is a perfect choice. It's a book that not only entertains but also lingers in the mind long after the last page is turned. I look forward to delving into more of Clark's work, confident in the knowledge that her storytelling will continue to enthrall and surprise.

I loved Julie Clark's last book, the Last Flight, and recommended it to everyone looking for an engaging thriller. This is another good one from Julie Clark, but, for me, it wasn't quite as engaging. That being said, her books are still way ahead others for thrills and suspense, so I would still highly recommend this one, and I'll eagerly await the next one.

One of my favorite parts of The Lies I Tell is this quote from the book,

“Two women, working together, are a force to be reckoned with.”

While it doesn’t sum up the book perfectly, it gave me enough insight into the two women that I knew I’d like the book. I wasn’t wrong. I couldn’t put it down. I doubt you’ll be able to, either.

Main Characters
The Lies I Tell had tons of cool characters, but I want to focus on the two characters whose points of view Julie used for her story. I loved both of them so much. They were different and yet the same. If you read the book for no other reason, read it to get to know these amazing women.

Meg
Meg is a con artist. At first, it doesn’t seem like she chooses that life out of some desire to be rich. She chooses it out of necessity. When she chooses to do it for money, though, and I found out her motives, I kind of rooted for her to succeed. I never wanted the cops to find her. That type of evolution was interesting to read, because I don’t find it in many books anymore, so I loved finding a villain I wanted to succeed.

Kat
Meg ruined Kat’s life 10 years ago, and because of that, Kat wants nothing more than to see Meg go to jail for her crimes. Yes, conning people out of thousands of dollars is wrong, but that’s not Kat’s only motivation. I don’t want to give away too much on how Kat’s life got ruined, but needless to say, it was a long journey back, and she’s right to want vengeance. I found myself also rooting for Kat to get her justice, because she deserved it.

The Character I Want To Meet
I’d love to meet Meg. Just to sit and pick her brain about how she chose her victims, and the psychology behind it all would be fascinating.

I’m not saying I’d want to be a con artist. The fear of jail would be enough to keep me on the straight and narrow. But I’m fascinated by how minds work, and why people do what they do. Motives are fascinating little creatures to me. Meg’s motives and how she honed her skills would be something I’d want to learn about.

My Biggest Takeaway
The quote above is probably my biggest takeaway. “Two women working together, are a force to be reckoned with.”

Meg’s mom told her that when she was younger, and she used it as a mantra throughout her life. In today’s world, when misogyny runs rampant, and women find themselves trampled on every day, finding stories of women who don’t allow that world to sour their soul or steal their spirit is a wonderful thing. Even if that story is fictional.

Will I Read Other Books by Julie Clark?
Um, YEAH! I’ll read as many as I can find. Can’t promise it’ll be tomorrow, or next week, or next month, but Julie will make it onto my TBR again, have no fear. You’ll see more reviews for Julie Clark books as soon as possible.

My Recommendation
If you like thrillers, stories with strong women main characters, or just really good books, check out The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark. I seriously doubt you’ll be disappointed.

I did not enjoy this book, it was hard to keep track of everything that was going on and I just didn't seem to care about the characters like I should. Im not interested in unreliable narrators as they are just annoying, but I could see the appeal for some others who enjoy that type of trope.

Love Julie Clark, and this book was no different! A thriller if there ever was one, and kept me on the edge of my seat, thinking about it at work. I was caught up in this book even when I wasn't reading it!

I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Catching up on reviews so... Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Landmark for access to this book in exchange for my honest review.

I had never read any Julie Clark before but I know I will read more in the future. What an exciting read this was. The characters are so well developed, the pacing is exceptional, and the story is a true page turner. It was exciting to read a story with such strong female characters that didn't feel like tropes, they felt like people. There aren't big crazy twists and turns but the twists that there are, are very clever. Highly recommend this as a mystery/thriller beach read for a wonderful little escape.

Who would ever think I would call a revenge story wholesome but yet, here we are. I loved this book! I loved both of the characters Kat and Meg and how they came together and helped each other out. This was definitely not suspenseful or thrilling in my opinion but that didn't deter me from really enjoying the book. The character development was impeccable and I loved what both women were standing for. The ending was a perfect wrap up to the story and I almost wish there were more stories being written about these two women, I really enjoyed them as characters.
